Greatwood and Wolnir has that "attack it's weak spot for massive damage". Dragonslayer armor has floating stand things that shoot untelegraphed magic attacks from off-screen. Twin princes and soul of cinder do that "you thought I was dead but I shoved a magical thumb up my ass and got my hp back" shit. The dragon is a one hit kill. Gundyr changes his moveset and hitbox halfway through the fight. Yhorm has that 4-hit-kill sword. Pontiff randomly clones himself.

I mean there are a few good bosses but so many of them are less using what you learned and testing your skills, and more "oh boy what silly bullshit does this one do".

The bosses aren't difficult, they're boring. Instead of having them be actually challenging, a large amount of them rely on lame gimmicks. Champ and Dancer were pretty good, Dragonslayer Armor was okay but could have been better. But so many bosses aren't "learn how this boss fights" it's "figure out how From tried and failed to be creative then using that to cheese them".

they should be forced to choose an option when they load in on whether they're here to be hostile or ally with the host, but the host doesn't get to tell which they picked (enemies would be always hostile to you).

the day the game launched Mound Makers was the most fun i've ever had with the game because I'd put my sign down while wearing the untrue white ring, kill some enemies to 'prove' i'm friendly and then backstab/push them off a cliff when the time was right.

Well then one would go into it with the knowledge that there are two movesets. Also, there being two bosses implies they put any sort of thought into making either of them challenging on an individual level. The problem is that From is relying on the change in moveset to be the challenge rather than the moveset being changed to.

So you're saying the undead legion fight wasn't lame as shit? Again, they weren't hard. Fuck, you could backstab and parry them and they would even attack eachother. They didn't even have much health. The second phase was almost the exact same moveset but flashier. It's not challenging because they hoped how interesting their gimmick would be is all it would take.

The first time? I never die to these things. A katana and under 30% equip load rolling wrecks fucking everything with no issue. The bosses go down so easily because they weren't made to be challenging, they were made to have silly gimmicks. I don't know how many times I need to say this.
