Outfits really need a member cap. But would that really stop it?

Trying to decide between TR and VS, I dislike the look and color scheme of the NC. I like the look, color, and sci-fi-ness of the VS but the TR also have a good look and have more traditional weapons.

Do you guys ever feel sad about gaming?

Tonight I was playing in a squad with a guy who, from the sound of his voice, sounded older than me. Maybe late 20's or early 30's. He was pretty good a playing so I decided to look up his stats. The guy had thousands of hours in PS2 and had played nearly every day for years.

I started thinking "I wonder if this is the only thing that guy does besides maybe work." And then it got me thinking: maybe this is the only thing I do besides work. I've spent thousands of hours of my life playing video games. I'm 25, live at home, have an okay career, etc. but I have no friends. I have no relationships with people beyond video games. I feel like I have so little to say about what I've done with my life in 25 years.

Video games used to make me dream about all the stuff I would achieve and do. But now I'm 25 years old and I have so little to say about what I've done. I wish I would have never gotten involved in video games. I wish I could go back in time. I wish I could start over.

a pity that infantry can't fight in the open for more than 2-3 minutes before someone brings their "force multipliers"

The open field is the domain of the vehicles. Holy christ, why can't this be accepted? The problem is that tanks are paper and 80% of infantry present instant death or significant harm. Additional problems of focus firing and sheer long distance infantry based AV makes it a death.

What is supposed to happen is that MBT forge the way, with lightning supporting the flanks and harassers maintaining a skirmish line, with support sunderers in the rear. Infantry are transported by bus or galaxy, occasionally popping out to deal with infantry nests. One side gets victorious and succussfully pushes through, allowing the sunderers to deploy at the next base.

What actually happens is that a fuckton of tanks get pulled at, say, Crossroads. A fuckton of other tanks are pulled up from Allatum/Xenotech/Regent rock and a line is formed. Infantry based AV sets up behind a rock, flinging infinite lockon missiles or lancer/striker spam while walls of AV maxes lock absolutely everything down with bursters and their faction's respective AV arms. Anything that isn't a tank is simply resurected or disposable. Eventually one line crumbles or the fight bleeds away and the super zerg blob floats to the next base.

I realize that the infantry bushido warriors want it all, but, literally, all a tank's role is to maintain the open field and you want to make every continent as cancerous to them as Hossin? I mean, sure, I'll never get tired of having some jackass float from a rock and instantly kill my tank because I don't have WWII technologies such as 'aim stability while moving' or even a silly thing like a coaxial CQ machine gun.

because tank combat in PS2 is really bland compared to other games
the current setup puts the weakest aspect of the game front-and-center
harassers are nice though because they have to be driven at their limit and are gimped if they only have one person instead of a crew
tanks in PS2 need to have higher flank penalties, much slower repair time and then probably more health to compensate
add a driver position too
tanks are also in a weird position where they're so strong that they can't be made interesting without breaking the game

One of the things I wish for most, is that main battle tanks would require a driver and gunner seperately. They all become 3 man vehicles essentially. The magrider is the outlying question, but for the rest - it'd make it significantly more difficult to just pick up and farm, and might make a place for the lightning. As it stands, lightnings only exist to feed certs to real vehicles.

If they were 3 man, I could deal with HE being stronger, and tanks in general being in a stronger position. As it is, I hardly touch tanks. It just feels too easy. At least with harassers, there's driver/gunner coordination to deal with, and generally, harassers feel like they have way more depth because of this.

If tanks were 3 man vehicles, you'd get tank battles decisively favoring the more coordinated and skilled side, and I reckon that'd be a very positive thing.

I assume the current 2 man tank system is another of those "copy/paste from battlefield" things though.

there's your problem right there. Logistics and transportation never has mattered in ps2 due to redeployside, instant action, squad spawns and squad beacons. Even though requiring transportation would make the game more deep and add a sense of scale, most plebs don't want to bother waiting and would rather get their quick fix of shooting mans rather than having to wait to be picked up by a bus or gal.

It doesn't help transportation IS boring as shit in the game as it is. There's no immersion in the environment. Even something as simple as vehicle interiors aren't available. Barely any music, underwhelming sound design, piss poor character interaction and a lack of any sort of polish would make transportation more hassle than its worth.

The Masamune's aimed down rockets have a bit of an initial gravity pull to them, and then go towards to target. That means, you have to aim slightly above your target initially, then guide the rockets to your target. It takes a bit of practice, but they seem to do more overall damage than the Decimator if you land all your shots.

The way it's planned to work is current implants and chargers are all getting converted to ISO-4; to get low-level implants, you need to buy RNG implant packs and hope you get the ones you want. To upgrade the low-level implants coming out of the RNG implant packs, there's a button to convert duplicate implant drops to ISO-4.

Presumably, current chargers couldn't be converted into certs because all the salty vets like me would get back, like, 30k certs worth, too many good goyim have already spent smedbux on implants to totally scrap the current system, and smedbuck refunds are already out by company policy. Also, the devs desperately want to cash in on RNG loot boxes, and this is the best idea they've come up with to do that so far.

TL;DR Daybreak destroys everything they touch. Fueled by corrupt upper management. Stay away.


Firstly, i've played far more hours than Steam shows right here, which was from the original stand alone launcher.

I went back to PS2 recently to see what has changed from the last time I had played, which was a decent amount of time before it was handed over to Daybreak.

I remember a few key things, and I want for all future or possible players, even more so...for returning players who have been gone since Daybreak took over.

When Sony Online Entertainment owned this game, and created it (aka put all the hard work into it), I enjoyed this game signicantly. I found little issues with performance, other than the well known .2/.3 second lag time due to client side server mechanics, which was fine once you adjust.
I spent $20 back then on what was called Station (Cash/Credits?) and that amount of money ended up getting me a camo for my character, two for my guns and unlocked an attachment or two, plus unlocked 2 guns.
And by the time you were done the intro part of the game, you had enough to unlock something new via their in game currency you earn simply by playing and completing missions.

Fast foward over two years, and my session tonight.
Upon logging in, I found that my original PS2 account, and everything I had bought/unlocked...had vanished. Remind you that this account is the same one I used originally with PS2 and other SOE games.
Being rather annoyed, I still went on.

I was greated with an insanely pointless "tutorial" section (that seriously does NOT teach new players anything important, such as spawning on Sundys, generators, etc etc etc etc etc...key things that are the basics of gameplay for PS2, and major things that new players do NOT know about...eventually causing them to be frustrated or bored once they "deply to combat" a few times. As they have zero purpose in the game pretty much).
This "tutorial" when finished, greeted me with a full screen "BUY STUFF NOW!" that had NO way to close it, other than pressing escape. Which could lead some people to think "oh I guess I have to buy stuff in order to play?" at first. AKA a beginners trap.

I dug my heels in, joined an active squad (thankfully leaders who communicate are still very much here, the majority of players in general were all awesome, no disrespectful chat going on, even the enemy teams were chatty via text chat and everyone got along and had fun).
I had grinded a way a few directives, saved all certs, etc that I had earned and after 3 hours of solid, non-stop combat (including capturing many places, getting many kills, etc) I went to log out, but on my way out, I figured i'd go use some of the currency I gained to unlock something new to play with when I came back on.
And this, this was when I was floored.

When it was owned by SOE, you automatically got some of the premium currency to spend as a first time player, it was to get you something small and incentivise you to eventually spend more in the games cash shop.
That and even with moderate play, compared to how I just recently played (which was far better than when I first started the game years ago), you had aqquired enough certs to spend on something else as well. This was a fair way of greeting players to the game, promoting the cash shop in a positive light and introduced players to the cert system and how it is used to unlock handy things and new guns, etc.

Now remember how I mentioned my $20 purchase all that time ago, and what it got me?
A $20 purchase now would get me two guns, if I was lucky. TOPS. Or perhaps two ugly skins, at most, on your character (they all look roughly the same, with just color swaps and are extremely low texture meshes).
Then I had realized that almost 70% of the items in the game, including MANY powerful weapons, were locked behind paywalls. Costing easily $20 for some of these.
That's $20, for one gun, that you can only use normally on ONE class, on ONE faction out of the three. The skins, etc do not transfer between factions, etc.

The amount of certs needed for the majority of the items were extremely high as well. Meaning a 40 hour play session from a good player, such as myself, would most likely only net me 2-3 items (nothing major) at most.

Tons of cosmetic items look very poor, are so small/pointless that you'd be lucky if you even notice you had them to begin with and provide very little means in the way of personal customization. If anything, it's just a way to look slightly different from other players.

Or how about their "bundle" packs? You can get a "bundle" pack, that has 5 skins in it (that roughly all look the same, or are slightly different from your base model) for a grand $40-50. And that's right, they're limited to that faction only. So if you want to play all three factions, switching characters out and want different skins for each one (that's locked to one class) you would pay up to $135-150 for this.

For an example, to buy everything in the game with it's real money currency, you would most likely be spending close to over $10,000 USD. Easily.

But wait, they offer a subscription plan! One that gives you $5 in credits a month (for $15.00 a month), an XP boost and cert boost, and get this...you get to save 10% (sometimes 30%) off of the real money store! So you get to spend money, to spend more money!
Oh and you get access to a bunch of solid (bland) colors to plaster onto your stuff as well. Such as the highly fun "bland pink, bland blue, bland green and much more!".

Finally, Daybreak has managed to make this game run worse some how as well.
When I first played this, I was a GTX 560ti, running everything on high at 1080p. I was getting a smooth 60fps.
Now...i'm on a GTX1080, running on High *not ultra* at 1080p, and I get a (butt)ery smooth 30-40-60FPS. It jumps around so often and the frame time is so bad, that it's impossible to tell what is causing it directly.
Latency wise however, it's not as bad as it use to be. They did work that out a bit however, but it's still infamous for it's delay (you can get shot from behind cover if you were under fire and dipped into cover, as there is a brief moment where the other play still sees you moving into cover, even though you're now in cover).


Daybreak has once again proved that money over quality and fairness, rules all.
And while I have ZERO issues putting my money into a free to play game for things, nothing turns me away more when the prices are absurdly unfair, things that make you more powerful are locked away...and a majority of the content CAN NOT BE ACCESSED BY SIMPLY GRINDING/PLAYING THE GAME (and this does NOT include just cosmetics, but things that add to mechanics/gameplay!).

Daybreak is owned by a company that has nothing to do with videogames, nor anytype of entertainment/art.
They are a company focused on one thing, and one thing only. Maxamize short term profits at all cost. With zero care towards long term goals, or customer satisifaction. If they can bleed a few dry right now, they could care less if those players come back or stay around. They got your money, they're good.
They see people as an infinite resource, knowing that new players will keep coming in, those players will spend money and only a core group of dedicated players (who are ultimately in a cycle of abuse due to this business practice, as they suffer the conseqences of little content updates/fixes/etc...as suckering those first time players is far more important than anything else).


A fantastic game, ruined by a company that needs to be either bought out by an actual publisher/dev (as I feel like this is only a managment problem at Daybreak) or burn up in a burst of flames.
Daybreak is the "Online Pass" of the 8th generation of gaming. You know, those things from the 7th gen that forced players to buy the game new, or pay $10 to activate an "online pass" in order to use the game online...or would lock away content in some way.
