Re-Tired Edition
Previous jej: >>170043575

The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not as dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>GearBlocks
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>Intersteller Rift
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

>>170330573
Started as a joke. Space engineers had a bug where everyone on the server would hear a CLANGCLANGCLANG moments before something went very wrong with the physics.

Its now a religious mantra and also short hand for something fucking up spectacularly.

CLANG is the sound the physics engine makes when something is going wrong.

>>170330573
Clang means collisions in physics going bad, or about to go bad.
The 1st clang was the sound made by metal in gmod, then was a sound in corneroids, and then was ported into spengies, and them reddit took over, E-celebs like meowcaptain and shit spammed the shit out of it in Xoc's streams, then reddit took over.

Current state of the monstrosity

Control cams for all the calculating/register shifting functions is in. I also want to add a function that erases all registers, because doing an addition that overflows buggers up the next one.
e.g. 10000000 + 10000000, the result is 00000000, with the carry stored in the adder which will foul up the next operation.

It'll be annoying though, since some of the memory latches are at different orientations to eachother.

pic of the function cams down the bottom

I've decided I'm not going to have a dedicated hardware for a reset-registers function. It's easier just to read the input into both starting registers (00000000 at that point) and add them together, overwriting whatever is in the results register.

To-do
The initial cycle of operations
>press enter
>feeds card from magazine into slot
>pushes card against reading rods
>intermediate rods pulled up, selecting the function based on the 3 bottom bits
>unpushes card, releasing reading rods

Been getting into Terratech. Babby simple but still a lot of capacity to do horribly. Fun stuff.
Working on trying to get a controllable flying machine that's as small as possible, for scouting reasons. Dinky little Venture propeller required. After a few good impressions of a balloon releasing its air, I came up with this. It still lilts forward somewhat when airborne, and shifts ascent/descent about 5 times faster than it takes to toggle the propeller, but it works.
Besides scouting for a good fabricating base area, wondering what else to do with it.

i guess since you asked, i wont post because its not strictly an engineering game but its physical movement with no animation, i might create some kind of character proportion editor down the line (mass determining limb movement speed and center of balance are what would balance the feature)

at this point because it has no animations i can litteraly mix in match parts at whatever size and the system tries to get it to work.

You can add in new materials, but I don't think you can add modules or change the way module design works. You can build fusion boosted nukes as well, but pure fusion nukes will never be in the game unless the government declassifies documents on them because we don't know the equations that make them work. Same for casaba howitzers, if we knew all the stuff about those we could finally have orion engines.

You need to deal with the automatic safety lock.
The solutions are.
>easy shit
Install a higher speed mod so you dont reach cap speed and shit wont lock-unlock
>hard shit
Make a script that constantly checks the speed and change the lock speed on the fly to avoid the automatic lock-unloc, so you have stuff permanet locked or unlocked.

No.
If you reach cap speed they will lock no matter what, and when you decelerate, they will unlock no matter what too.
If you set the lock speed to 0m/s, you can reach and abandon cap speed with no issues, but once you stop it will lock unlock constantly, Clanging eventually, thats why you need a script to change it, but must be done with specific numbers holding control key on the slider.
Those are the only 2 solutions i found so far.
Install a speed mod, or make a script with easy automation and do the changes manually, or automated with something that check the speed and do the changes automatically.
When you are going slow, put the script to set all rotors lock speed to the max, and when you are about to accelerate, set them to 0m/s, and back to max when you are about to stop.

If feeding the weldship with materials is taking up excessive amounts of time, then it's time to make a bigger weldship.

Condgradulashuns. You now have a 100% hard counter that does devastating damage to anything more than 10m off the ground and can single handedly hold back and cripple an entire team of flying players, all by yourself.

I actually just got out of a match where I played for the first time a helicopter I made yesterday. It's a heavy helicopter with lots of full armor cubes so it doesn't gain inertia quickly. So I can't strafe or duck quickly. And sure enough multiple people on the opponents' team had flak. It rekt me. It was very annoying as there were several times where I was going to get a kill on an opponent meta-drone (I have superior armor and redundant wasp lasers > plasmas in aerial fights) but instead I'd be taken out by some sprinter mech with flak shooting me from miles away.

I still got 3rd best score and we still won though.

Fuck, though, even the enemy drones had flak. Kinda retarded that drones can equip flak IMO
>>
>>170414983
Flak isn't as good as he makes it sound. It deals increasing damage the more it hits you, so if you only get hit a few times it won't kill. It's also hard to aim; you have to lead your target. Flak is AA, and currently the meta in robocraft makes tiny little rocket cubes with helicopter blades very strong. The funny thing is that you'd think these "drones" would have their counter in the AA weapons (flak, and epic flak in pic I posted). But because drones are so agile and quick, they're very hard to hit with flak. And even if they're damaged, they can easily fall to cover (unlike heavier air vehicles like 'real' helicopters and planes). Flak does practically no damage to anything that's below about 10 meters, as the anon said. So if you descend to the ground, that alone counters flak damage. Of course then you're on the ground, which you'd think would be disadvantageous for air vehicles. But that's actually not always true. Depending on the vehicle, they can put up a decent fight even when grounded (for example my heavily armored and sluggish helicopter). I have an agile drone myself, and once I learned to stop flying high in the sky and actually get low to the ground and even up in peoples' faces, I started getting #1 score in many matches. You'd think ground cover is only meant for terrestrial vehicles, but no, in Robocraft, ground cover is used plenty well by air vehicles (provided the player is good). The annoying thing though is that the meta scourge, drones, benefit the most from cover, as they have the most agility (and thus ability to duck in and out of cover) for hiding behind hills, columns, rocks, etc.

I really don't know how Freejam (the developers behind robocraft) are going to make it so drones don't dominate the meta. They're very annoying. Hard to hit, hard to score a kill on them, they're fast, they can fly so if you're firing at them you're not looking around for other enemies...

If the player playing the flying vehicle is smart they'll wait until the flak player is distracted, and then get a crippling alpha strike in, which often is enough to kill or cripple the flak-wielding player enough that they'll lose the fight.

The flying can also pick somewhere else to fight - this isn't a 1v1 game. There are objectives to score, so if a player that counters you is at objective A, just go for objective B or C

Let's also recall that a single blue-tier flak gun costs 150 robo-cpu. For those who don't play RC - you get a maximum of 2000 CPU for building your bot. A single block of armor costs 1 CPU, a pair of mech legs might cost 100-200 CPU, wheels are about 20-30 cpu each, tank treads can get as high as 100 cpu per tread.

The weakest laser, the 'wasp' laser, costs less than 14 CPU each. A common strategy is to place many times more than the maximum amount of lasers that can fire simultaneously on to your vehicle, so that as they get shot off in a fight, you can maintain maximum fire-rate. Redundancy, it's important in robocraft.

For 150 CPU you could have 1 flak gun, or 10 wasp lasers. IIRC their max fire-count is 7 or 8, so literally any vehicle you make could have either a full set of lasers WITH redundancy (think back-up weapon), or a single flak-gun that's ONLY good against air that can actually be hit, aka NOT drones, and drones ARE the meta filling nearly every game right now. Flak is not good against drones.

Now consider this - flak is absolutely useless against anything grounded (this includes grounded air vehicles). So for 150 CPU you've got a weapon that's ONLY good against NON-META air vehicles IN THE AIR. Versus any other robot, that 150 CPU is 100% wasted.

The purple flak gun in my pic is 300 CPU. Absolutely overkill.

So if anything, Robocraft's flak gun isn't overpowered, it's underpowered. Because if you take it with you into a match, that's 150 CPU that's absolutely useless against anything but slow FLYING air targets, when you could have instead chosen to bring a full set of pretty much any other weapon. 150 CPU will get you a full set of plasma grenade launchers or a full set of SMG lasers. In fact it should get you a full set + redundancy, just like my wasp example above. Truly, flak guns are shit.

>The flying can also pick somewhere else to fight

You literally cant because they just shrunk all the maps by 20% in the last big update, and reduced teams to 5 players each, down from 8 players.

Flak has such long range you can basically sit on one side of the map, and see and shoot at a flying guy on the other end of the map.

And its not just flak that flyers have to worry about. Theres also players with lock on missiles with are incredibly hard/near impossible to dodge and even get free hits due to lag. And sniping railguns too.

When a player flys a plane/helicopter out into the map they are usually shot at from all directions by various weapons that are all designed to be hard counters to flyers.

Just stop playing Robocraft.

>Not only can it handily push one SD without crumpling but it can also continuously apply enough force to drive one SD into another with enough force to cut completely through yet another massive re-enforced superstructure.

The way I rationalised it in my head was
>disproportionately more powerful engines
>extremely strong spinal beam to withstand thrust forces on hammerhead
>reliance on shields makes armouring less critical - outer layers of SD less reinforced, acting as a crumple zone
>SD ploughs into bridge/sensor area, not the (presumably) much tougher triangle

Still think the hammerhead crew should have been obliterated on the first hit though.

No I mean driver specific shit. Requires you to know exactly what you're doing though, so don't worry about it.

Well, either your samsung "dude TLC NAND lmao" SSD died and is making spengies choke on a cock, OR it's a very specific and weird driver conflict.

Boosting your single core performance to pound the shit out of the single thread spengies uses is how you're going to get any more than 30fps when shit goes ballistic. Spankles barely uses your gpu anyway, aside from LENSFLARESWOOO and retarded texture resolution.

I use a FX 9370, my man, I fucking know what instability looks like.

If you're talking about the k variant, sure, its about the same. I'm anticipating a price crash sooner than later, so idunno. Both are viable, but the 6700k can be pushed further, given its lower tdp. Buy the cheaper out of the two, I suppose.

so in computers everything is basically 0s and 1s, in different forms, but somehow we can into negative numbers. apart from unsigned there are about 5 different methods to store numbers on binary and almost every one is retarded, because "my negative"
u2 is one of those and it has some sense, basically you treat all but one youngest bits (all bits except the leftmost) as typical unsigned binary number and your oldest bit (the left guy) is equal to (-1) * (2^n)/2, where n is number of bits (you have 8)
this way on 8 bits you can count from 0 to 255 (unsigned) or from -128 to +127 (U2 coding), best part of this system: interchangable with unsigned and all the arythmetics work
worst part: overflows occur at 1 bit prior, so you either start clocking negative numbers if you add or mul number that are too big or you have smarter overflow/carry flags
there are other systems, like 1 bit is the sign (0 is +, 1 is -) but then you have +0 and -0 and they are not equal to each other (and adding/multiplicating are fucked up)
since you made your rods for unsigned, you can carry on, but just decode the output in different way 10010101 is still 95hex but instead of being 149 unsigned it's -107 u2
this is often utilized in programming, when you declare an unsigned int or something and you want it to be all 1s you declare it as -1

Its the reason, ram sticks were cheap, and didnt bought another one because i considered 32 too much, but i also considered 16 not enough from what was coming.
Spengos sometimes eats up to 17-19 gigs, and the rest of my shit on the other screens like series, videos or this ded eats another 3-4.
Its sorta future proof.
The maxwell Titan X on stock settings and the correct drivers performs slighty below a 1070, and the cpu is OC'd to constant boost at 4.4ghz, so it can be pushed a little more if they start to bottleneck.
I can skip this GPU gen without issues, and already skipped skylake and kabylake on CPU's, and maybe could even skip another one from the looks of it without any need to start to turn down graphics settings.

Well in a ship that size the honeycomb of decks is certainly going to act as whipple shields, which are very useful in SW considering pretty much every capital ship sized weapon throws around giant lances of plasma, however those flanges at the edge look like they're mostly homogeneous slabs of armor plate, which makes some sense since they'd lend protection and rigidity during a crash and rob the impacting mass of some of its energy before it starts colliding with the actual side of the ship.
I'm not saying that the Hammer couldn't budge the SD period, tugs do similar scales of pushing all the time, however the SD's main engines are larger by a substantial margin than the entire Hammerhead from bow to stern, the forward momentum of the SD's gargantuan hull should have smeared the Hammerhead into a black streak across it's superstructure.

Well naturally i'm trinyg to build over the horizon icbms for grid square removal.
They're laser designated from orbit, 2 short thrusters with a short burn to get altitude so they can actually come down on the laser (rather than early ditch into sea), and a variable for the long burn.
They're reaching about 4km currently, but I feel like its a constant fight of thrust number tweaking and or fin manouverability.
I suppose if I achieve something that reliably hits a 4km laser designator then I'll have something, doesn't feel like it will be very adaptable though, I bet as son as my designator is at a different altitude / distance from the launch site they won't work.
>>
>>170471538
Getting 4km is already highly impressive. FTD is geared towards engagement ranges of less than a klick, don't expect anything at all to work well beyond that aside from energy weapons.

If you really want to lob missiles 10+ KM, you should make your own nuclear cruise missiles. Sending a fleet of nukes to hit a faction's fortress is always a blast.

The Driftmaster Compact features 3 modules (EMP, Blink and Shield) in the space of this tiny hull.
While it sacrifices some of the otherwise achievable speed, it doesn't lose any of the armor you'd expect from a vehicle this size.

Get yours today!

Considering it has two receivers, you could potentially convince the ATF that the two-round burst doesn't make it an NFA-restricted weapon because it's two separate guns. Sort of like this double-barreled 1911.

Of course, the full-auto setting fucks that right up, but whatever.

Both that pistol and that rifle are NFA due to the fact it's still one 'operation' of the trigger for two shots. If you got one on the pull and one on the release, that'd be legal. Mechanically fucked to do, and pointlessly difficult, but legal.

I don't think the pistol is NFA. There are people reviewing it and talking about ownership, and it's definitely not older than '86.

I think the pistol has two triggers (like a double-barreled shotgun would), which might be how it gets by. I agree that the double rifle thing might be a hard argument to make.

No, it is confirmed to be a Title II firearm. You cannot not fire two rounds at a time out of it.

Apparently back in '12, it was approved for sale.

http://www.guns.com/2012/11/27/arsenal-to-import-af2011-a1-january-1-2013-launch-shot-show/
"Arsenal maintained that their double trigger design, and matching pair of sears and hammers, would not raise the hackles of the gatekeepers of the guns, and they were right on the money. "

I'm not sure if the triggers are, themselves, attached as one or if you can fire either barrel independently, but it seems they got it through.

Things may have changed since, but I haven't found any information on such.

Or are you talking about the rifle? Because if so, I got nothing.

Literally all you'd have to do is tap off the gas tube and use it to reset the trigger. You've just invented a gas-operated bumpfire trigger. if the gas tube routing on an AR-15 didn't make this impossible it'd be brilliant.

>use it to reset the trigger
But I'd imagine that if you used the gas to directly reset the trigger then it's still the machine moving the machine automatically, just a more round about way of doing what the gun already does, but if it moved the trigger finger the argument could be that it's like that for the sake of ergonomics instead of simply being a retarded "fug da police" style of automatic fire.

Which again, I'd imagine would need some kind of cooling or at least require a glove to operate.

Bumpfire is nothing but a trick anyway. This is just something that would make it easier to do at the shoulder. You have to let the gun flop around a lot to do it, the main method is the 'belt loop' method where you put your finger over the trigger, then put your trigger finger through a belt loop on your pants, then pull the gun forward with your other hand. This just nets you a ridiculous spread of aimless fire and noise. There are products that make it piss easy, like the slidefire stock. But if you were to put a spring inside the slidefire that would net you a sentence.
>>

there's nothing to do if you don't got other people to play with and follow building rules (which is why japs and people make 'frames' for standards of mechs, joints and etc)

from beyblades, fencing, mechs and a fairly high standard (but you can get away with low quality if it's neat)

simply put there's an obvious amount of dedication put into a build at a glance

unfortunately, no

those were pretty simple designs vs even simpler ones.

the small one was just a one big rotating blade made out of thrusters and metal phx plates that i had little control of, but it spun and took out the wheels which was the standard meta on enemy bots

the guillotine bot rarely ever worked because the winches it was based on CLANGed hard most of the time at start of combat

That's an old primitive design with only one nuke that doesn't detonate as close to the target as possible. The newer prototype is much smaller, cheaper and faster, has 6 nukes and will penetrate the target a bit for maximum nukage. pictured one is somewhere in between. Engineering!

Basically, designate the area curves would occupy, making cubes that comprise it render as a curve instead of a blocky nightmare. Any missing blocks leave a hole in the said curve.

Id rather have premade weapons honestly. That way they can be better balanced. Just have them "customizable" by having things like ammo types for each weapon that let them do things like "EMP missiles" or "long range cannon shells" or "Armor Piercing laser beams"

Starmades totally 100% custom weapons results in everyone making massive FUCK YOU guns that do millions of DPS. Id rather avoid that.

Except million-dps weapons are difficulty to provide power supply without compromising the power requirements of the rest of the ship which has to regen its shields, power it's passive effects, turrets and not to mention maneuvering in combat.

Yeah, million DPS sounds impressive on the paper and then end up being a glasscannon in action that evaporates as soon as the shields pop.

>>Enough gun ammo to destroy a tank takes a lot less space and mass than using missiles to do the same thing
Fucking wrong, I knew one of you was gonna make an idiotic "but it can kill more tanks with a gun" claim. SIXTEEN. SIXTEEN HELLFIRES. Those are SMALL compared to the majority of anti-tank missiles and platforms like the AH64 already carry a load that big. In order to give a plane a gun worth using against tanks, you're going to be doing some very stupid shit.
1. 76mm or greater caliber.
2. Attacking from WELL within visual range on a diving trajectory.
3. Plane must be physically aimed at the target.
4. No suitable ammunition for this is NOT light.
5. That tactical niche doesn't even exist anymore in the first place so the entire idea is moot.

An A-10 replacement would be equipped with EO-DAS taken straight from an F-35, given a 25mm rotary cannon, given as many Hellfires as the engineers can possibly make it carry, engaging from very nearly BVR and will actually be capable of making good on those 16 tank kills without becoming fodder for IGLAs.

The days of shooting tanks with a BFG from the air is done and gone. It was never more than an extremely silly idea anyway and they were always supposed to use missiles against MBTs in the first place. The gun was for soft skinned and lightly armored vehicles.

If you've never had a folder in your C: drive called "wobble" you're not a Wipeout fan.

Why are all the guidance AI and Lua scripts in FtD so shit?

You're using them wrong.

2097 had pretty much the best handling of the series from what I've played. Just the right mix of float and weight.

Fug, I checked the page for the hydrogen thruster and they didn't have those numbers anywhere there, thanks.

One full tank can fire a large Hydro for just under 6.5 minutes

Yea, nah.
Pull any of the well known guidance Lua blueprints off the forums, try them, watch.
They basically do what they're supposed to, but not without sailing/flying around like erratic hamsters.
Nothing moves smoothly in FtD, its like there is a constant battle between AI updates and physics steps and neither side wins.

You just didn't read hard enough.

Fuck. I totally missed that. I was mostly skimming for numbers because I expected them on that page.

Oh well. So far I've determined that you need -ROUGHLY- a 3:2 ratio of full tanks to large thrusters for almost 10 minutes of flight. Considering most server either remover or significantly increase the speed cap, this should be more than enough for leaving atmosphere as it takes just over 7 minutes to leave Earf at 100m/s

Kek. Hopefully it will run better than all the other Unity games.

I feel like 5 large hydrogen thrusters, 8 large atmos, and all the necessary infrastructure required to operate them is fucking ridiculous to get two 1x large cargo boxes into orbit
