Anyone been able to complete a Warhammer campaign on legendary, solo or co-op? How would you compare in difficulty to vanilla Shogun 2?

So playing dorfs, expanded east then west a bit, Grimgor decided I was moving too much and attacked me. I managed to repel him, chase him down, and thought I killed him.

Now, like 10 turns later, he reappeared and has a massive army. And I keep getting my shit kicked in.

Did I mess up in "killing" him? Was I supposed to let him get away?

At the time I was besieging a castle to the NE of where you start and it seemed like Grimgor was trying to get up there to back them up so I stopped him from getting there. I also stopped a few other greenskin armies from going up there

Or do lords not die/get respawned in this game? Never really played Total War before.

Stat comparison between blood & grail knights

Not pictured: Blood Knights have 10 more bonus vs large, and the frenzy bonus should bring their melee attack/charge bonus closer towards the grail knights, although grail knights also have lance formation and immunity to vigour

My first finished campaign in WH was Legendary Orcs.
Difficulty felt inversed in that i had a lot more trouble early game as orcs than in Shogun 2, compared to the endless doomstacks when i triggered RD in S2. Still not hugely difficult either way.

The only hard part about Legendary is the beginning, when your economy is weak and you need to expand quickly But even then it's easy to break the autoresolve in your favor by stacking lots of ranged units, making a lot of battles trivial.

Only go for Barak Varr if you're prepared to push your campaign down to Black Crag and finish off Grimgor. Otherwise you've got a lot of weak provinces without much of a bottle neck to hold them with. However, Barak Varr is a huge boon of a province as it provides you a port (lets you trade with the empire) and has 4 regions, making it easier to build building combos.

Heading north and taking Mt. Gunbad on the other hand gets you the Brightstone Mine, which lets you recruit ridiculously high rank artillery.
