I've been working on communicating better, and I learned that saying stuff out loud is not only good for my team mates, but it also helps me be more aware of the information I already knew. It depends on seasons, though, because sometimes the new operators/buffs changes how attacking and defending plays out. I used to hate Consulate when shotguns where OP, fell in love with Kanal when Mira was introduced, and had a lot of my preferences changed when Thermite stopped being the only one capable of opening up a reinforced wall/hatch.

Jackal isn't even that good. Yes he has the best guns but he doesn't bring much else to the table. Hibana and Thatcher will always be must picks, Buck or Sledge will take 3rd, and 4th slot goes to either Ash or Buck/Sledge to clear obstacles. 5th slot for the team will be a free pick, and when BB, Thermite, and Montange exist there is no reason to pick Jackal unless your team can win the match with just the 4 operators alone and you just want to fuck around with foot fetish man.

He's pretty good anon.
Being able to essentially lock a roamer out of any sort of flanking for 30 seconds is powerful.
Punishing beta-roamers just for existing is powerful.
Being able to punish a point defender holding an angle or keeping to themselves in a corner because they didn't decide to sit completely still for the last minute in a half is powerful and also extremely gay.
He encourages non-flexible play on the Defender side and adds more intel to the Attacker kit when they didn't need it. Even if he's not extremely overpowered, he's crazy dumb to play against and he removes an element of fun from the game. The only arguments people have against him being powerful is anecdotal, and usually has to do with any given player being too tunnel visioned or aggressive. A passive Jackal that doesn't push into their own death every time they track someone is nearly impossible to play around if their team is even halfway coordinated.
I wish they never added him. Him and fuze are shit tier designs that I would remove if I had the power to.

He's exactly like Caveira, though: great pub stomper, but against a coordinated team (mostly 5 stacks) he's mediocre. A competent team will have many ways of re-entering the objective room, and most roamers of a competent team would know to bail when Jackal is around.

Likewise, a coordinated attacking team already does Jackal's job well. Most high rank roamers don't pop up form the same room an attacker enters. They're usually somewhere else to avoid getting spotted during a clearing. It's later on that they'll come in for a flank. Attackers, meanwhile, will clear a room, enter, have one guy cover a hallway/door/stairs, and that's it. Jackal's unique contribution would be "Oh look somebody used to be here" and "Now they're pinged so that will scare them a little." He will still have to cover that angle, so whatever he contributed is subpar and could have been contributed by another operator who had something else better to offer like holding the angle from a window while behind a headshot negating shield.

What do you do once you're in the objective? A lot of objective locations outside of Bomb are small boxes with minimal cover, or have plenty of walls and/or ceilings to open up and create crossfires with.
Running into the objective also means you're no longer able to counter or flank a push into it, and it gives Jackal the means to track you and pin you down or peek you easily while you're in it. There's only so much wiggle room when you're not at least a room away from the objective.
I'd almost go so far to say that Jackal punishes point defenders way more than roamers, which is my biggest reason for hating him.

Also I think you're underestimating his 4 tracking pings. Being able to know the exact location of anyone for any amount of time without risking a drone or yourself, is a huge asset. You only know exactly where they are in intervals, but even just knowing what side of the building they're in with a scan saves a huge amount of time and risk compared to droning it and covering the droner. Being able to say what Defenders are in what areas is huge info to give away practically for free.
Even if the end result is the same as good droning and communication, it's the context, risk, and time cost that makes it powerful.

I'm getting back to siege after a long pause (last time I played was when the first DLC appeared), I already read the pastebins and I was wondering if you guys had an online source for the most recent common tactics or effective strategies, especially for the new maps.

I don't feel like jumping in online matches and being a dead weight for my teams because I have no idea where to barricade effectively or what spots are best for entering rooms.

Any tips/guides/videos that can be useful for picking up with a year long pause?

I've read your post, and I just don't see it. Maybe it's because this is very reminiscent of Caveira, where people were wailing for day son end about her being OP because wallhacks and whatnot. While yes she was strong, most people figured out to look for her and communication itself rendered her less effective. The shotgun nerfs also helped tame her. She's now just a pub stomper. A fun one, but nothing reliable if you're a 5stack vs a 5 stack.

Maybe Jackal will play out differently, but I just don't see what he can do that someone else can accomplish with a drone. Drone a room, confirm clear, enter, and hold an angle: voila, you're now preventing a flank from occurring.

Granted it's only info on a single op, and not nearly as potent as a real-time wallhack, but the amount of intel you get compared to the amount of risk involved in getting it is much more skewed.
He's probably going to play out differently.

Good dlc picks:

Bad dlc picks:

For us though, Hibana and Valkyrie are the main "good picks" from the dlc and you should get them first if you can.

As for Jackal and Mira their weapons are op and will prolly be nerfed. Jackal's ability can be really useful especially for clearing rooms, Mira's is a double edged sword.

Extension on some of the good pro picks for us plebs.
Blackbear is 50/50 on whether he's useful or not, mainly depending on how good your aim is and the map.
Echo is good if you communicate well and your teammates arent retarded.
Capitao has nice guns, is a 3 speed with flashbangs, and his asphyxiating bolts are pretty great if you use them correctly (i.e. as an offensive Smoke babe, to shut down enemy movement and to shut down camping enemies)
Buck/Valk/Hibana are automatically good at all levels as their abilities are amazing without being super technical, as long as you don't go full deep-on-the-spectrum mode with them (i.e. not destroying floors as buck, throwing all 3 cams in the same spot next to an existing camera as valk, and making 3 "windows" when you don't have a thermite to make a Really Big Fucking Hole (tm) as hibana)
Frost is not that bad, as the average solo player drones far less than the average pro. She can still get some neat picks from careless/distracted players.
Caviera is decent as well, as again the average solo player is less thorough in their droning and less attentive to their teammates location. She's situational.
