Realize none of these games will ever properly reflect an ancap society due to a lack of allowance for private investment. Even Victoria 2 forces the fallacy that no state funded education = no schools period.

But to actually answer your question focus your efforts inwards and tech up/build up internally until you can eat them with impunity.

no matter where.
And after adding a few ships clicking the fleet didnt bring up their command tab, so that prettymuch comfirms that its caused by a retardedly coded interface

>>169008517
without seeing the source, i can tell you that its the result of building up the ui elements from small shits without merging them, and as the fleet grows, there is no culling of any kind so that intricate shit gets loaded hundreds, thousands times. But even that wouldnt be a problem, since with zero programming knowledge you can deduce the solution:
Because really, whan you want to order the fleet from point a to point b, you MUST have a scrollable list that displays each of the thousands of ships with their name, loadouts, health, shields, class, and quickbuttons for inspecting and dismissing them...

Source was actually really hard to mod. The community took over a decade to really take off.

All the really good modders shifted over to Unreal and have become actual developers now. Some autists like the Titanfall guys did some good stuff with it nevertheless.

My main "strategy" is that I have three 60K-70K fleets with an army of 20 gene warriors following each fleet and I send them to take three systems at a time. I can occupy all the planets in any of the larger empires in about 10-15 minutes or so.
All the empires left can only manage 50K or so at the most so I'm fine in most engagements.

I have a 180K fleet sitting in a system where a wraith/spectre keeps spawning that I can take off pest control in case of an emergency.

Was already mentioned earlier, but for the details.

>A new free update for Civilization VI is coming soon to all Steam users. It will include some great new features such as Steam Workshop and modding tools, as well as multiplayer team functionality.

>Multiplayer teams and mod tools have been two of the community’s most-requested features, and we’re happy to bring them to Civilization VI. Steam Workshop will allow you to browse, add, and subscribe to mods more easily, and the other tools will make it easier for artists and modders to express their creativity within the game. With the update to multiplayer you will be able to team up with your friends to conquer the world together against AI or human opponents.

>There are also balance changes and bug fixes coming in this update, ranging from trade routes to ice caps, obsolete units to AI upgrades. We’ll go more in-depth on these details at a later time.

You can use them as in system as stationary defenses, fast response craft or operate them from station hangars. You can also use them from carriers as fighter escorts, reconnaissance craft or heavy fighters.

Purge all and replace with droids. Your unhappy pops aren't producing optimally anyway so droids will actually be a moderate improvement over them. >>
>>169034196
Yeah that would require actual diplomatic features in the game. Like treaties to allow your ships free travel in other empire's space. If trade was an actual thing in the games you could use that as leverage, since ark ships would probably be great boosters for the local economy of whatever system they visited, since they probably have to constantly trade for new goods.

But of course, there is no private sector in Stellaris, and thus no trade and no economic incentives for empires to get along with each other.
>>

>>
>>169035158
I start thinking of ways to implement a private sector in stellaris and it quickly gets very complicated so I begin to see why they left it out. It's still disappointing though. The crucial thing to creating a private sector in Stellaris would be to establish a currency mechanic that then weaves into other mechanics of the game. I thought that's what they were trying with the Consumer Goods tease in 1.5/Utopia but it looks more like a mineral tax for boosting happiness, it's still virtually invisible as a part of the game.

Just an example of how complicated it gets, if you tried making a currency system you'd have to make buildings to generate it, and your empire would also have to have a stockpile of it as a treasury or reserve so it could interact with the private sector. You gain currency by taxing worlds and corporations (this would require adding tax policies to your empire's policies menu). You can opt to build commercial mining stations or research stations, in exchange the private sector has to sell part of what they produce to you at a discount price, the rest is used in the local system economy to generate consumer goods or more currency for you to tax. And then you get to the issue of banks, and borrowing money and going into debt and I just lose interest.

For example, right now there's virtually no benefit to making sectors larger than they have to be, ideally you want them to only control inhabited systems as you lose at least 25% of the revenue from mining/research stations in the sector as well as having to spend influence.

Give to the ability to grant sector charters to corporations in your empire (could be handled like factions, except in the budget tab,) over that space in exhange for various benefits depending on who you grant it to.

Shit like +25% food/pop growth, +20% mineral output, +30% construction speed etc.

The more powerful a corporation gets, the more benefits you receive, but the more likely it is that they'll try to secede (especially in mega corporation-like empires) which means you have to balance your competing industries for stability.

>>
>>169038680
Yeah I was thinking chartered corporations would be a good way to handle it. But I'd like for there to be a private sector even within your own empire. Like, it doesn't really make sense for a plutocracy to have virtually no private industry does it? If your government is set up so the wealthiest citizens make the decisions, they need a means to generate wealth to join the ruling class don't they? Having everything controlled by the state and the people it appoints using those resources to enrich themselves is a Kleptocracy, not a Plutocracy. It never made sense to me you could have a plutocratic government with no private industry.

Of course, private companies wouldn't really be necessary in all empires. Could be that different government types have differing degrees of economic freedom. So in some cases the private sector is tiny or even non existent, but in others it's a powerful force.

>>

>But I'd like for there to be a private sector even within your own empire

Ideally yeah, but that would be hard as shit to implement given how the current mechanics work. Paradox would need to rework the base economy first, especially because if they really invested in making it happen they'd need to reconcile with:

>Of course, private companies wouldn't really be necessary in all empires. Could be that different government types have differing degrees of economic freedom.

A short term solution to this would be porting one of the only two good mechanics from HoI 4 - the government tab. It wasn't anywhere close to fully realized, but the option to customize your cabinet/industrial preference depending on what you wanted to do was a great idea and your options differed depending on your country.

Spiritualist Empires with no economic focus could for example receive far less benefits from corporations, but with far less drawbacks.

MegaCorp empires could receive massive buffs to corporate control benefits, at the price of far less core systems and increased ethics divergence.

For now I think strategic resources should be kept as-is, though in the future, I'd like to have the ability to outsource/lend-lease them, with benefits if they're under corporate control. Sure you'd have to 'buy' them from the Corporation if you wanted to use them, but this could be offset by shit like increasing their base amount or getting better deals for trading them.

Domestic energy trading between you and Corporations for benefits as well as 'autonomy' seem to be the only easy way to start implementing a private economy, as all the mechanics are there.

Which is bullshit because Synths already do it in the AI rebellion. If they're too lazy to code specifics, the least they could do is implement the Birth of the Federation system of having an aggregate espionage score for each empire (based on traits, ethos, ascension perks, edicts, and buildings,) that you can either use for counterespionage, or to broadly target an ememy's industrial/civilian/military sectors.

Just have random events where X is sabotaged/stolen etc depending on relative espionage scores with the downside that no-one will trust you if you do it too much. Not even hard.
>>
>>169040979
I was thinking they could just simplify the issue by having all economies be nationalized/centralized things, because the alternative is as you mentioned a complete overhaul of the base economy system because it would change so much about how the game works.

>For now I think strategic resources should be kept as-is
Yeah I always figured strategic resources would remain under empire control, cause they're so vital to the empire's security. The issue with the corporate control and buying contracts is that it requires so many new mechanics in itself its hardly a simple solution.

>Domestic energy trading between you and Corporations for benefits as well as 'autonomy' seem to be the only easy way to start implementing a private economy, as all the mechanics are there.
The issue there is there needs to be something exchanged for the energy you get. Hence the need for a currency system, and you're just back to the original issue of implementing something that fundamentally changes the entire economy of the game.

One of of the solutions I thought of includes using the private colony ship that's already in the game. You could have the create a commercial colony rather than one directly controlled by you. The syndicate that you charter the colony ship with is given the right to govern the new colony in exchange for kicking back some of what it produces to you. But the bright side is, you don't have to pay out of pocket to develop the world, the syndicate pays for it and does it automatically to maximize exploitation of resources. Of course that would require AI that isn't retarded and doesn't solve the issue of currency.
>>
>>169041712
Yo what's this Stellaris update about. I don't see any news about it.
>>
>>169041513

>I was thinking they could just simplify the issue by having all economies be nationalized/centralized things

That's the natural option, but also puts us back to essentially where we are now.

>The issue there is there needs to be something exchanged for the energy you get. Hence the need for a currency system

Maybe in the short term they could cobble something together with unity/influence mana and just represent internal currency with various modifiers.

>Keep energy income either stable or steadily increasing for X years
>Bonus to unity like you get with completing mandates/influence

>Go into energy deficit/go into massive inflation from rampant colonizing
>Lose unity or influence/-5% energy income for X years due to investors not trusting such an unstable market

It's nowhere near perfect, but it's something. Ideally they'd dig up whoever the fuck did Vicky II's economy and add commodities alongside strategic resources.
>>
>>169041895

>Of course that would require AI that isn't retarded and doesn't solve the issue of currency

That's the trick, and if you add that, you have to add corporations/private interests as meaningful entities. It snowballs from there.

The sector AI is okay for what it has to do, (as long as you pump resources into it, which also really needs an option for donations larger than 100 at a time.)

>That's the natural option, but also puts us back to essentially where we are now.
Right now everything is state-owned and operated. What I mean by nationalized/centralized economy is something like fascism or even mercantilism. Where private business exists, but its strictly controlled by the state and all trade and industry is still primarily for the benefit of the state. Companies can't just start up whenever, they need to go through the state for approval, and the state has first dibs on what they produce. You could roleplay that setup with current Stellaris without really having to change anything, because the mechanics of it could be practically invisible.

>Maybe in the short term they could cobble something together with unity/influence mana and just represent internal currency with various modifiers.
Yeah but it's not really any different from the invisible consumer goods thing they're implementing. To me there's little point if it's basically just up to roleplay and not no tangible gameplay.
>>
>>169042735
The main issue I see is that it creates a really binary situation where either a colony is privately operated or it's not, and what that means for the rest of the systems in your influence that aren't part of the colony. Would there be different corporations for colony management and space mining? I'd think so, but I have no idea how to go about organizing it in a way that makes sense with current Stellaris features. There's just too much missing for it to work.
>>
>>169043082

>You could roleplay that setup with current Stellaris without really having to change anything, because the mechanics of it could be practically invisible.

You definitely could and I try to, but it doesn't solve the real issue that a well-implemented currency/economic system would - having jack shit to do during peacetime.

Having a Vicky-like system would solve this. You can play that game without ever going to war and still have fun.

>>
>>169043557
>but it doesn't solve the real issue that a well-implemented currency/economic system would - having jack shit to do during peacetime.
Yep, that's what I keep coming back to. Roleplay is all well and good, but in the end you're just sitting there waiting for numbers to go up because you can't actually do anything and have nothing to manage except in your imagination. I've got to sit down and actually plan out how to implement a currency system and then mail it 50 times to Paradox's HQ until they look at it, if only so they start thinking about seriously implementing something like it.

It was a long time ago. Back then, the English names were translated to French, quite literally.

Like Chewbacca. In the Empire Strikes Back and the Return of the Jedi, he's "Chewie" Chewbacca.
In the first movie, A New Hope, he was called "Chico", aka "Chewie" in French. And the Millenium Falcon was the Millenium Condor.

It was, what, the '70? It's still way better than another translation I saw, Mr Vampire.

I don't have a screenshot of the original version of this empire since I've updated it with every new patch, but its ethics are mostly unchanged. They used to be xenophobic, collectivist, militarists at the start, but I made the change to fanatic collectivists a while ago. Based on a sci-fi setting I've been writing about, I never really designed them to be optimal.
>>
>>169051873
Seems to me people really did whatever the fuck they wanted back then.
There's the case of that Chinese movie who was butchered by the English dub (so badly that when I got the DVD, there's no dub, only subs), but French aren't that bad either. Remember the old Spiderman cartoon? Peter Parker was renamed Pierre Parker for just the first episode, and "Spiderman" was renamed "L'Araignée". Which makes sense as it's his name, but you never translate names, or you end up with really silly stuff, like that book I once read where the characters were called "Sublim Elevation of Three Degrees".

Stellaris.
Sectors.
I have 5 systems.
Should I colonize planets and just throw them in a sector and be done with it, or eat up the energy and influence penalties until I have them built the way I want?
>>
>>169069214
Sector off some of your core worlds that are already full developed. The AI will upgrade your buildings as long as it has the resources to do so. I prefer that to letting sector AI manage the tiles of a new colony, they'll only fuck it up.

Is there going to be a cool government name for every combination of authority and civics?
(I'd like it, but Paradox's reputation for both laziness and lack of flavour imagination suggests no.)

The implication is that it's Exterminatus. Turns the planet permanently barren and uninhabitable

Just get the no sectors mod to remove the penalties until you have all the basic buildings up, then throw it in a sector with all sector options turned off. Mod will auto upgrade your shit as long as you remember to turn it on.

>>169076032

Not only that. The pop is not resource oriented (industrious). The regime sucks at early game (no plutocratic oligarchy or just military dictatorship. Ethos was weak since individualists were weak in past builds. An ideal would be collectivist/fanatic militarist (although that ethos is useful since the last build).

Ofc, missiles always sucked (but torpedoes were indeed OP) and wormhole was inferior to hyperdrive (and is now inferior to warp).

You dont know these things when you play for the first time.

That's far from national socialism.

Using your logic that would make Churchill a national socialist, that man didn't give a shit about indigenous people, doesn't mean he was a national socialist.

The word your looking for is imperialist. Pretty much every European leader was like that at the time.

One thing left unanswered is from which class does the non hereditary autocracy and oligarchy draw their leaders from. Civic oriented? It really can make a difference because scientists>military>governors in order of the easiest to train.

mars isn't much better, it has no natural magnetic field, and it can't actually sustain an atmosphere thicker than the one it has now, so you would be at risk from cosmic radiation and any oxygen you put in the air would simply escape into space, even if you were to use the ice caps for water and oxygen, you'd still need to live in a cave, wear a spacesuit outside and bring your own fertilizer

not impossible to live there but impossible to terraform
>>
>>169110603
>Luna
>slight terraforming
Yeah, if by creating a giant bubble around the entire fucking Moon to hold in the atmosphere counts as slight terraforming I guess.

But Venus is more relevant to the original point. Venus could have been habitable, it just took a different route. If Mars were bigger and Venus... IDK, different, then Sol could have had 3 habitable worlds.

It had oceans for millions of years. Atmospheres can produce their own magnetic fields due to the ionosphere. That's what keeps Venus's atmosphere intact.

All Mars needs is some solar reflectors in orbit and maybe some super-greenhouse gas factories on its surface such that humanity may one day be able to walk around is surface in nothing more than a winter jacket and a CO2 scrubber.

call me when you have a method for putting a magnetic field in a planet and can alter atmospheric retention

you could fertilize the soil and be self sufficient for water and oxygen up there, you could even live outdoors safely in one of the few magnetic bubbles that exist, assuming they aren't going to collapse in the future, but it will never keep oxygen or a high atmospheric pressure no matter what you do

the freezing temperatures would make farming even with fertilized soil very difficult too

i hate it when Ai goes metagame on you based on info it shouldnt have, like how heroes 3 niggers knew when your castle was empty and the exact number of turns it needed to get it, so the moment you were out of range to protect it (something it shoulsnt see, but it has "maphacks") it would go for it, or how enemy stellaris fleets keep pingponging all over the fucking place if you are stronger but the moment your fleet jumps a second before your transport it materializes on them, or the moment your war took you below his own fleetpower it wars you (then gets promptly wrekced when i shit out a new fleet before it even crosses the border).

Also, any way to reduce vassalization warscore? i can only vassalize niggers when they are so weak that i can just take all their planets in that war, which makes it pointless as an alternative for chain-waring the nigger.

and the warscore in general is pointless. once i fuck up the dude and take some of his panets, he no longer has the capability to even reach the point he was, and since i just beat him at said point, he would need to raise above it, now gimped. So why force me to let him suffer, and not just eliminate or integrate teh fuck?

Also, when all thier stats are "pathetic" compared to me, why in the fuck do i have to take "no" as an anwer for asking a tribbute, or in fact any other diplomatic option? They should be shitting their pants and jumping at the occasion of geting on my good side if even as a feint while they build up a ferdereation or someshit.

Why do i, the strongest entity in the galaxy who just bitchslaped a fallen empire and an extradimensional invader, bend over backwards for some degenarates so i can protect them?

The idea that Earth is the perfect world for life scares me. The perfect star, the perfect orbital distance, the perfect planet size, the perfect moon, the perfect gas giant neighbor... it all amounts to intelligent life or perhaps life in general being very very rare.

I find the reality that red dwarf stars rip off the atmosphere of planets in the habitable zone particularly disconcerting.

I've heard that in Civ 6 the AI will just assume you have an average military until they actually see a good number of your units. "perfect world for life as we know it"

recent discoveries suggest even in our solar system we have quite a few moons harboring conditions where life exist on our planet (deep sea thermal vents), it also has 2 more planets that were also "perfect for life" for quite a long while, and we keep finding more and more "traditional" potentialy habitable planets (so discounting things like the moons mentioned above) only on a TINY spot on the sky, with one of the most basic techiques.

There are life all over the fucking place, dont worry about that, its just not inteligent to the point where we can detect it (Yet, or we are too late for them). Hell, if they were our caliber, they wouldnt see us either (our radio bubble is tiny in cosmic scales, and gets exponentialy weaker the farther it travels, and we do nothing else apart for 3-5 edge cases that would be detectable).

What you have to accept is that nothing is permanent, and cosmic timescale (as in processes like star lifetimes, planetforming, lifecreation, planetary conditions changing...) happen several magnitudes over what we can think around, so in almost all cases we talk about any cosmic proccess be it atmosphere stripping, sun shrinking, etc... we are talking at least hundreds of millions of years, and most cases billions. For comparison, dinosaurs died out ~60 million years ago. "humans" as we know it came about around 100.000 years ago. If someone with good eyes looked at us form the other side of the galaxy NOW, it would see those apes. (and we could see them we would also see their old selfs). And the way we are going, if we are still around 10.000 years from now on, it would be a miracle. So for us to find an other inteligent life, both of us would have to be in the exact same sweespot of techlevel at the same time, which again, is a very narrow window in cosmic timescales.
>>
>>169114768
yeah but the wasps are worth like 1/16 the fleet power at most
they got like 8 or 9, that's barely 1/8 of the damage they did
>>
>>169114779
It's very hard to imagine life living around some thermal vents under a mile of ice could form an industrial society an colonize the universe. That's ultimately where my fear is rooted, that the universe will be generally quiet for eternity if humanity fails.
>>
>>169114779
what is interesting is its implications: the fermi paradox: if we were to build generation ships that travel at current spacecraft speeds, we would still be able to (theoreticaly ofc) colonize the entire. fucking. glaxy. in a few million years, which is still almost nothing in the galactic timescale, and THAT ammount of unnatural interfence should be detectable, especialy if inteligent life pops up every now and then and does teh routine.

hardly a fucking fact, there's very little evidence to support it and it doesn't even work in simulations coached by people to try and produce the desired outcome

but that doesn't matter since it forms a cornerstone of faith in the new world religion of scientism
>>
>>169113063
but even in the current system, if you win the war, you are already won since you won against a large empire, the nigga is crippled, you got even stronger and the game is baiscaly over. what should happen is the remaining enemies banding together if tehy can make a stronger foe, or acknowledge your superiority, become your underlings and an endgame crisis or awakening should happen as a last challenge. if you repel it, you won, no need to keep mopping up straglers, and if you took too great losses the niggas my rebel if they can be your equals, giving you an another challnge.
This would also enable a diplomatic victory: instead of overpowering everyone as above, you could convinve everyone that you are fit for leading the galaxy, unite it, then the crisis happens as above.

That is an idea i came up on the spot, would be trivial to implement, and would make the game MUCH better and less tedious lategame.

That is an egotistical viewpoint.
For all intents and purposes the universe is still currently "quiet", it makes no diference that we are here or not. We sure as fuck aint making any noise or change in it, so probably there are/were/will be milions of others with the same capabilites and/or potential humans posess. I could start a rant about how unamaginaly many plantes there currently are in the entire univesrse, multiply that by how long the universe has been around with planets coming and going, how long it will be around... and there is simply no way that we are/were/will be the only one of our sophistication level.

Just for the sake of example: what if venus is a hellhole because the inteligent life over there fucked up worse than us with the greenshouse effect? from their point of view they were the universes only hope of not going quiet. Same thing with mars, it had remarkably earthlike climate for long enough that if life didnt take detours like dinosaurs there could have been inteligence there, the only ones for their own knowledge. If they existed, we were only dislaced by time, and thats still fucking nothing in galactic scale.

So dont worry your little haed, because tehre is not only an astronomically low chance taht we are/were/will be the only ones, but its even more sure that we will die off before any sustainable interplanetary colonization gets off teh ground.

You are literally trying to kill the very foundations of science just to suit your cooky beliefs.

Who knows, maybe you're right and physics just stops working and magic takes over in one isolated spot like a few nebulas or your bedroom, but it is ridiculous to assume it or that well observed scientific principles simply stop applying a few select spots throughout the universe. If we didn't assume the simplest models that fit the data then an infinite number of ridiculously complex models would have to be equally considered and science would fall apart.

Of course that's your goal.
