Suzaku with (critical) effect stacking gives a ton of damage, you can easily go over +100% close combat damage.
From what I could tell the effect also apply to living weapon as long as its activated when your health is low (Suzaku does this automatically) so if your goal is to have the most ridiculous living weapon possible then this might be worth looking into. Suzaku's summon is also very strong, it flies around you in a circle then dives down and explodes, pushing around anyone near you.

Too bad Mototada's set is so heavy.
I respecced to use it, figuring I'd get used to playing with heavier equip load.
I stuck with it for one region but in the end I kinda regret it, playing without A agility made those missions less fun for me.
Maybe I'll try it again if I find light armor with good (critical) effects.

so.. is there a max level? Or can I in theory play through the game multiple times and eventually get 99 in all stats?

I just beat Nue without getting hit once. I just used the high stance heavy attack on the scythe and waited for him to do the laser attack, I'd step back out of the way then step in and heavy attack. And doing this he'd repeat the attack 3-6 times in a row. Then I'd just back away til he did it again, getting a few bonus hits in here and there.

Take the loot drop kodama blessing, play missions with lots of trash mobs, and use a loot drop guardian spirit. Ignore revenants because you don't get money for killing them, and they're not worth the time it takes to kill them unless they're a high stance spamming bum that are basically asking to be countered to death (and you can't guarantee that they are). Destroy mobs as fast a possible, and sell the garbage. If you're not trying to level up, feel free to purple branch out and leave your amrita behind if you can't be fucked to beat the boss.

Moderately to incredbily. Strength and Skill give you better ki pulses and ki pulse recovery white gauge speed which ties directly into your offense. Body and Heart give you life. Stamina and Strength raise your equipment. Spirit and Magic can aid with defense using certain gear.

The only two stats you could get away with not throwing points into is dexterity and magic. But you'll still need at LEAST 9 magic for post game shit.

I already do this, low kusa to mid 1kat. stacking para/poison from kusa and using elemental damage buffs on the sword. I fight almost exclusively with ki damage when using 1kat, it's crazy powerful on men and still kills most yokai. The series of rapid slashes from the kusa (the skill, guard and triangle I think) does so much fucking damage from behind.

So, now that the dust has settled, what do you guys think of the game?

Gameplay is fun for the most part but many areas are too similar, enemy variety is shit and some of the bosses are Lords of the Fallen tier bad. 7.5/10 imo

1) Most stats have a secondary bonus besides weapon damage, so they're good for whatever secondary purpose they have. Some are incredible (Ki is more important than health) while others are eh (Weight limit is almost always a non-issue).

2) The game will THROW skills points your way, and they are, theoretically, infinite anyways. You won't miss four or five skill points.

3) Most of the min/maxing comes from baller ass gear rather than your actual stat build due to low soft caps, but Dex gives you access to the utility that is ninja tools, and Magic is broken as all hell at the moment (to the point where I'm predicting a nerf). Spirit is the one stat I do recommend getting to 25 regardless of your weapon of choice/build, if only because Guardian Spirit bonuses are fucking spectacular, and more living weapon never hurt anyone.
That being said, you will always be gaining Amrita, and there isn't anything else to do with it besides level up, so you'll always be dumping your extra levels into your preferred stat(s).

It's a shit exchange rate, but it's better to get some Amrita and more elixirs for your stockpile or some pocket change than some garbage materials. If the upgrade rate for materials wasn't so bad I would disassemble my common stuff, but it takes like 50 of the low material to make one high quality material, so fuck that.

Ok so I literally JUST NOW realized there are stats needed for armor so the bonuses work. I am level 100 and only had 10/10 str/skl so half of my armor didn't work at all. Respecced to 15/15 and now I can really see the difference.

Haze Gives a free grapple but the counter window feels shorter.

Spear parry also has the tightest parry window in the game next to bare handed.

1Kat's Square parry, Haze I think, gets a free attack that does a metric fuckload of ki damage, is much easier to pull off, and gets a free follow up regardless of whether or not you actually put them into the ki drain state. The triangle parry gets a free back attack, as well.

Spear getting a parry only feels unfair because of the spear's kit is just so good. But it's also the worst parry in the game.

Dex and Magic to 20. Spirit to 25. These basically are not optional and are needed to unlock all skills in the game and get the full effectiveness of guardian spirits.

Also consider boosting Str/Skill and Body to 15. This is usually around the highest requirements most armor needs (str for heavy, skill for light, body for both).

With your remaining points you'll want some heart and stamina.

Some of the late game armor needs 15 body. I haven't seen higher yet but you're not getting any bonuses from those sets without that much body (and str or spirit).
