This was a good one. Two-man, two-day infiltration jailbreak, ghosted my way in, alarm goes off when I busted the doors, left the building and conducted a frantic retreat under fire from a 3-man 1-MEC pod to the evac zone. Got everybody out without firing a shot.

Pistols are still useful in LW2. You can train any solider to learn every Pistol perk, it just takes time, and the order is random.

This is what I hate the most about LW2. I want to kill aliens, I hate the feeling that I have to stealth an early mission to get my first engi or to stop a dark event that will force me to restart the entire campaign. The funnest I have had was taking a full ten man squad on a supply raid mission and getting into an intense fire fight.

The whole burning thing in LW2 fucked me up so hard in a mission i couldn't believe it, see, i didn't realize that Advent Engineers got incendiary grenades at one point, so because i assumed they just had flashbangs and he was the alien furthest away from me, i didn't make any extra effort to take him.

Then he grenaded me, set 4 of my soldiers on fire, and they could literally do nothing except for hunker down.

Well, in my case i pretty much used the squads as an excuse to "roleplay", i made themed squads, like, "ok, this is the A team, they have 1 of every class, they can handle anything" then i have another squad that was just a huge squad, so i'd use them for missions like destroy relays or stuff where more brute force was needed, and then i had a third squad which had a couple of good soldiers and then i just rotated rookies through it to level them up.

And my squads had a max of 6 people, and if there was a mission where i could bring mroe than 6 people i would just either add rookies if it seemed like an easy mission, or members from other squads if it seemed like a hard mission.

I don't know what's the intended purpose of squads other than managing where your soldiers go, in reality you don't have to use squads at all, just keep all your soldiers out of squads and pick who you want to bring when a mission pops up.

Well, the recruit job already exists right? From what i understand, right now what it does is that it recruits resistance members and automatically adds them to a haven right?

It's probably relatively simple to make it so that it just recruits rookies and automatically adds them to your armory, then you could just manually add them to havens and give them jobs as normal.

I'm not sure what would be the point other than having better soldiers in those resistance missions though.

I played EW LW1 version 14 or 15, cant recall but MECs were still fun from the sounds of it.

What mods are essential for LW1? Since i come from back from XCOM 2, i feel like playing EW will be hell on earth because of how clunky the game is and unmoddable compared to 2.

Nigga i played UFO Defense back when i was in primary school, i played though Terror From The Depth in my summer days and played though UFO again in the PS1.

I glued my screen when EU trailer came out and played that shit in my PS3 (i fucking hated EU for that reason alone).

I still have to play though a complete camping of EW (LW, fuck vanilla) and FMP along with Piratz while doing a thesis.

I have time for gaming at least 1 hour per day, i need something to be satisfactory tactical game that fills my void for tacticool operators operating on aliens while begin fair.

I just dont remember that well if LW1 was more fair than LW2 or XCOM 2 alpha strike madness or not, i did hear somewhere here that there is mods for LW1 but i cant find shit on google.

I had this save where I ran the VIP through an overwatch to the extraction point and survived. Got that hangar glitch. When I reloaded and ran it through the overwatch again every time the shot killed the VIP.

What we desperately need is Guerilla War mod to come out, then mash LW2 and Guerilla War together into a freak supermod, and then have the ABA2 guy come up with some cool aliens, and finally hire some dude to make new models and shit for all the new aliens and weapons, including the LW2 ones.

Then we need 2 years of balancing and fine tuning, and we'll have the perfect game. Until everything breaks by the expansion, and then when we finally have it all done Terror of the Deep 2 is going to come out and no one will play the mod ever again.

Have a squad stationed in the avenger that uses the skyranger for quick strikes that need to be done anywhere. Plus call the skyranger in for evac missions for all squads when needed.

A regional garrison mod would be cool.
Maybe just make them part of the rebel personally and then you can deploy missions from the havens using personal as soldiers.

Easier way to train personal as well as giving them more use. Let you transfer troops from the avenger to the regional garrisons, and maybe add a new "Hunting" job for resistance personal that gives the guys combat experience, and has a chance to give various corpses as a reward and even a very small chance to lower advent strength in the region.

Other than a need to implement some sort of tank-looking grenade launcher, these are pretty feasible. I'd better put time into getting the animations from EW to work though. It may be best to give them a dedicated ammo slot or grenade slot based on upgrades or the Chassis equipped than any utility items slots.

Since SHIV chassis can't jump, I think a 'winch' ability that works much like Grapple but given an action cost makes sense to me. The models don't have a visible winch to use but I'm not sure I want to force players to lose a SHIV unit if it can't make it to a rooftop evac. Winches may break concealment: I've only seen and used loud ones in real life.

To be clear, I do want a SHIV Chassis as an available superheavy armor for Sparks and Cyborgs but that would be with the humanoid torso. Advent will field some just to look like creepy Terminator or Necron units. But that chassis is different from SHIVs as independent units.

SHIVs do have a screen on the back, now that you mention hacking. I wonder how we can get that to work like Gremlins. At least for the EW-style Drone as a secondary I can use the 'tablet held by soldier' visual but it would be a shame to not use the SHIV's screen.

So basically remove stealth, or at least reduce it to smash and grab situations and the odd Dark VIP assassination (I still think those are fun).
The game being "too" complex I don't really see as a criticism, just a statement of fact that the mod has depth. More documentation is kinda obvious, this stuff should be listed in game, or the devs should take time to coordinate with some people and make UFOpaedia.org an authoritative source.
The question is, how would you reduce stealth so it's not a necessity without simply making the game easier? Are there some simple changes that wouldn't require tons of re-working, or is it too intertwined with the core tweaks and changes of LW? Maybe toning down the difficulty through timers while re-working the shinobi class and changing up evac timers is all you really need.

I know I had fun with my Veteran LW2 campaign, but I also ran like less than 10 stealth missions the whole way through which means I probably was playing un-optimally.

Make it impossible to do most missions with a single japanese master. Tiny sneak and run missions can be fun and rewarding but they should be rare (see covert extractions in lw1). This basically makes that region a lightning rod for ADVENT's troop columns. If you do that mission, they'll swarm that region. It's great to make a sacrificial region later in the game by drawing their strength then abandoning the region (putting everyone on Hiding and ignoring it, basically) but otherwise, and especially early on, it's pretty shit. I'd skip it unless you're ready to abandon the region.

Anon. Normally, once per turn, you can attack one enemy, without abilities or perks. You are literally taking an ability that lets you attack more than one enemy per turn, at your normal hit chance, and still complaining about being able to shoot at more than one enemy per turn.

Trench Gun is great. You just are bad at XCOM and can't use it right, or you think it should just be a "Kill" button regardless of whether or not you were set-up correctly.

This is because of Firaxis' retarded design decisions that relegated their XCOMs from masterpieces to "good enough considering there is literally no solid competition". Considering thats what LW! missions were I'd say yes.

Stealth/solo missions do have their place and are fun in moderation it doesnt make good core gameplay. It was nice to laugh at advent and give them the finger by occasionally blowing up a facility with a lone concealment assault but this is overboard.

We're in south america now, specifically new brazil. I'm loving how maps are actually based on their terrain, we saw a lot of snow and wide spaces liberating the Russians. Now we're in dense Brazilian jungle with tons of trees and thick swamp everywhere.

This haven had 5 agents, only 3 showed up meaning 2 faceless. 2 assault rifles and 2 smgs, with an inexperienced advisor. Comfy rendezvous just got thrown out the window.

The first patrol was cleared with 2 grenades and good shots on the fragged faceless. The officer pod patrolled out and sent out his two attack drones to stun us, 2 faceless are right behind them and chasing us through the jungle. A while ago i said that i wanted to do something for T3 armor, some tacticool stuff nothing to show about that, yet. But i have been working on it, and one of the first things i wanted to do was a version of the warden armor that wasn't all shiny and stuff to have something to put all the pouches and stuff on it, and i think that's done.

I could probably add some stuff like scratches and stuff, but i think i managed to successfully make it match the color and look of the vanilla "delta" helmets, which means it should fit with pretty much everything.

As for the tacticool stuff, i don't really have anything to show yet, i have the models finished but that's it, so there's nothing to see yet. I also made 3 new helmets, well, 2 helmets and sci-fi visor tacticool scope nightvision headgear thingy.

You can post a sniper in a safe position and use a shinobi as a spotter. Make sure you boost the infiltration and don't feel bad if you deploy low ranking "expendable" soldiers, since you're going to attempt to avoid contact.

Alright so we dropped the two in, managed to sneak around until we see the relay, avoiding all enemies, there are two troopers, a commander and a drone guarding it so they have to be dispatched.

I am able to take out one trooper with my Shinobi's SMG, then the other trooper and the commander run for cover, and the sniper dispatches the drone.

ADVENT's turn, the commander runs behind the fences and flanks my Shinobi, but doesn't have moves left to strike, the trooper comes up behind him and shoots at my Shinobi, doing two damage and taking away her ceramic plating damage reduction points.

My turn, the sniper uses holotarget on the commander, who is adjacent to my shinobi, since the sniper has the extra crit chance with holotarget skill and I needed to make sure that fucker died. The Shinobi calls in evac since she's already revealed, then uses the single action slash attack with her ninjato to weaken the commander, and then she uses the Shadowkeeper ability to finish him off and return to concealment.

Advent turn, the last remaining trooper retreats, taking a yellow movement to run away. The following turn I move my sniper up and move my Shinobi up as well, and start unloading into the relay.

While I'm attacking the relay, I'm just focusing on destroying it, trying not to die, a pod of two troopers and a MEC activate and start creeping up on me while I'm shooting the relay.

On the turn after I get the relay destroyed the MEC flanks my Shinobi and strikes her down into bleeding out, the other pod on the map activates as a gunslinger, a gunner, a commander a trooper and a viper come up from one side, plus the five various Advent units the reinforcement ship brought in on my other flank.

The sniper picks up the shinobi from the ground while she's bleeding out, since her body in conveniently adjacent to the evac zone, and can leave before she gets vaporized.
