Ah, thanks.

I didn't really think Sans was all that funny. I got that he was supposed to be the comedic relief but puns are never really funny and that whole ketchup thing was kinda malicious. Never sabotage food. I really enjoy the mystery surrounding Sans more than anything, how he plays it cool with a straight face but in reality he has a weird basement lab and all sorts of weird momentos and charts that betray some deep past, coupled with the fragments of information we get about his backstory in all the routes. One thing about Sans that really separates him from the other characters is he never truly opens himself up to you. He's by far the most guarded character, and it makes a lot of the conversations with him outside of Genocide feel artificial. It's a shame Toby probably won't expand upon him more, but that's just how it is.

Papyrus is a lot more of an open book than Sans, and that's really enjoyable on its own because it makes him a lot more endearing. It's kinda crazy how unflinchingly kind and optimistic he is, as well. I know for a lot of people, the Papyrus fight was the breaking point for a lot of people in Genocide, and I can see why. That was the first time in that route that a monster just outright spares you with no trace of malice or ill will. Having Papyrus be that monster was very fitting. Another positive about Papyrus is that he's friends with Undyne as well, and the student-mentor relationship gives them a special bond. It's kinda tragic that such a strong monster would also have such a big heart, and it was really powerful to see him have to fight himself in the pacifist route, tearing himself away from his ambitions just because he started to care about someone. I couldn't help but find it odd though that he felt sad about not having a friend but then simultaneously was good chums with Undyne. Maybe he sees that as professional or they didn't really start being friends until after they bonded over knowing Frisk, I don't know.

Well, yeah. I'm proving that I can appreciate the individual characters while valuing them as a pair above their individual traits.

But... I did? He wanted to be a Royal Guard because he wanted friends, along with the honor and prestige of the title. That's why he fought Frisk in the first place. He wanted to capture them and become the Royal Guard, but then he started to feel conflicted after the human showed genuine kindness to him (probably, you could've just been an ass and he would've misinterpreted it as kindness).

I'm gonna go on a little tangent here about how I think it's odd that Sans cares so much about his brother, without any sarcasm at all, and how he goes on about how Papyrus is the coolest, but Papyrus hardly ever has anything nice to say about Sans. I'm sure Papyrus cares about Sans like any good brother would but most of the "Oh my brother Sans I love you so" Papyrus stuff seems to mostly be fanon. If anything, Papyrus is kind of a dick to sans. Am I wrong?

Even though their affection is never really overt I guess they are together throughout most of Snowdin, and Sans butts in on your cellphone conversations with Papyrus all the time.

That can play a role, but I think for the most part it's just shitposting and trying to bait people into arguments by strawmanning certain characters, especially ones that are used to being punching bags that people feel like they're obligated to defend, otherwise the general as a whole will just start shitting on them as if everyone here was a secondary that got their info and opinions on characters from a Tumblr blog instead of the game itself. Or just people are trying to have a good time and play devil's advocate to encourage critical thinking. I'm optimistic.

Unfortunately, most of the times that's really it. They take the original personality and push it through to the extreme end. That's how US Sans becomes a hyperactive midget with none of Papyrus' clever wordplay etc, and US Papyrus becomes a dejected weedbag (occasional child molester), who can barely even muster himself away or to remove a cigarette from his mouth.

Science fish and fightlizard tend to be a bit more entertaining, while Asgore and Toriel generally don't exist. I like the times when they flip Grillby and Muffet though, that tends to be at least amusing.

That's been an Asrielfag thing from day one and unfortunately its only gotten worse as time has gone by and the more hardcore fans have had time to accept that Toby isn't going to patch in an ending where hes saved and isn't going to make a new game based on it.
