The factions at 17D give an abnormal amount of missions, and they'll almost always be massacre missions due to the system being so remote. Often times it'd give a full 20 missions worth of massacre missions, and you could stack them together, go grind it out on the CZ, and return and cash in anywhere from 50 million all the way to 300 million for a couple hours worth of work.

They're firing rails and plasma, so expect to die from an errant shot if you wander out into open to do it. (You can't solo it, I think)

But so long as you're tagging a some and they die, you'll get credit, and you'll complete them.

You can solo it, but depending on your loadout it may be incredibly difficult. With a Cobra, you'll have a lot of trouble but if you want to try, play your ship to it's strengths. Cobra has a pretty decent hull tank so throw some hull and module reinforcements on it and make sure you A-fit your thrusters. Cobra is fast as fuck so you can easily out run any ship that gives you a hard time. The trick to CZ's is to knock out as many smaller ships as you can early on so that your friendlies will all gank the same ships. When you drop in, look for an enemy that is getting fucked and has no shields, and wail on it with your friendlies. Stick to wolf pack tactics and don't stray too far from allies. If the going gets rough, low wake out and back in. If you start noticing that there are more enemies around than friendlies, low wake immediately and back in to reset the instance. It'll be tough in a Cobra but definitely doable, and after a few goes at it you'll be able to get yourself a DBS or Vulture if you do very well (that is if 17D ever starts working again.) I'd recommend buying a Viper and A-fitting it and trying that, since it'll be a lot easier to dodge PAs and railguns with a Viper than with a Cobra.

Because otherwise CZs and NPCs in general are piss easy. I somewhat like it like this since it forces you to use your brains but it's ridiculous that no matter what, EVERYONE will have rails and PAs. I have no idea why they don't scale it to make low-intensity CZs have enemies with actual weapons and high-intensity CZs have enemies like they are now.

Also it's always fun when for no particular reason, every enemy in a CZ turns to fuck your shit and you get hit by 8 different railguns at the same time.

If 17D takes off, go there in Open, you'll have a lot of /edg/lords there farming kills. All you need to do is get one shot in an enemy and it'll count for your missions. Contrary to what you might hear about people in Open, there's a lot of good people there and 17D is a great example of everyone working together to get fat stacks of cash.

Also if you're a newfriend in a Cobra or Viper or any other cheaper ship, don't worry about getting killed too much. Your rebuy is probably going to be pretty small. Most of the time, you'll always have enough time to jump out to safety if your shields get knocked out. Remember to be smart in a CZ and you should do fine.

Thats fair enough so long as they're using fixed weapons. Quite a few of my favourite moments with ED were with a Vulture I fitted with two large fixed beams before they the nerfed power supply shitting on dads who use chaff as a crutch and then try to run away in a perfectly straight line in silent running. Plenty of juicy hackusations. That said time on target was complete dogshit as soon as anyone was clever enough to juke but they rarely were. ED is pretty much space jousting: the game.

If they didn't the window to drop within the safe distance of a station or location would be impossible to catch.

The ship is only simulating a planet-sized mass so you can maintain control for the approach. If you try the same thing was a real mass like a planet, changing targets doesn't help you decelerate and you'll still overshoot.

Of course then the question becomes: If the ship is only simulating the mass for the SC approach, why doesn't it also prevent overshooting automatically since there isn't actually a huge gravity well fucking with the FSD?

Exploration Elite requires very few credits earned because scanning payout is utter shit. At release it was only 60mil, then they later doubled exploration payout (double nothing is still nothing lol) and bumped the requirement for Elite up to 160mil.

Since passenger missions can award millions and count for exploration rank, but they didn't bump up the rank requirement again, players are getting Elite in days with passenger deliveries that took the dads literal months to do scanning planets.

Beam is up-front burst damage. Highest laser DPS but bad distributor draw and heat generation. Good for alpha strike or if you spend a lot of time off target (eg: jousting/evading) and you'll recharge/cool off between passes.

Burst and pulse have the same distributor draw but burst has slightly higher DPS at the cost of higher heat generation. This means bursts have the highest efficiency in converting your WEP capacitor into damage and therefore higher sustained damage if you stay on target all the time with your cap run dry. Assuming you can handle the heat vs cooler pulses, anyway.

Engineering completely changes a ship, and if you do it right in most cases it's just a flat upgrade.
It's possible to give the Cutter 5000+ MJ shields, an Anaconda with a 60 ly jump range, and a bunch of other crazy shit.
Now it's pretty much impossible to fight an engineered ship if you don't have one yourself.

The difference is like going from E grade to A grade all over again if you choose mods that play to your weapons' strengths and get good rolls on the outcome.

Like for instance Overcharged grade 5 on multicannons can result in ~35% more damage with a drawback of ~50% more distributor draw.

But since multis are low distro draw in the first place this means going from say 23 to 31 damage while distro draw goes from 1.0 to 1.5 on a large multicannon. By comparison a single pulse laser of the same size draws 2.8, so 1.5 is still fucking nothing.

Then there's the chance of getting a special effect that can be a game changer. eg: one of your weapons gets corrosive effect, which means your target takes 20% more hull damage. So that same multicannon above is now doing ~37 damage vs hull for the same 1.5 energy.

With the SH after me and all the NPC pilots still alive, I had no choice but to leave. I'm not mad at the guy or anything. He did exactly what I would do, attack while your target is attacking something else.

The only reason I posted this clip was that when I realized I was getting jumped by a player, I raged for a second because I was irritated someone was interrupting my comfy lil sesh. I snapped out of that and decided I wasn't going to be a trophy and dumped all my missiles at him before realizing I couldn't win that fight.

PvP is awesome and I fault no one for bringing the heat. Heart rate definitely shot up seeing a player name, and that's good. The balance for a random encounter was pretty good. I had just enough time to react to avoid serious damage, and I could turn fast enough in boost to actually fight for a turn or two.

Welp, it's not here. So I guess this is some kind of bug that affects the game's ability to generate CZs over Open, which really makes no sense since we still have to connect and link to the transaction servers even in Solo.

It's really not that difficult to get there. The community sucks ass when it comes to grinding money and you have to imagine ForumDads and Casuals scoot around in Vipers/Cobras with shitty builds.

Treat HAZRES like CZ's. Find Pirates without Wings if you're a bitch, follow pirate until either:

A) They Leave
B) They Get into a fight with Miners/Other Pirates

If Step A) Fails, find a new pirate to follow
If Step B) Happens, wait until the pirates shields drop. Target Power Supply. Not Power Distributer. Power Supply. It will cripple Anacondas, Pythons, FDLs with one-two good passes of 3-4 Kinetic Weapons or 1-2 Shots with Railguns.

I have no problem with how locking currently works. but losing it should not be so easy. currently, the only way to get a successful missile hit is to have good positioning relative to the other player's vector, but with how trivial it is to change your vector on a dime in this game, missile success basically boils down to luck and hoping they're overwhelmed enough by something else not to see it coming. if we could actually strategically fire them ahead of the player's vector rather than behind it, as we must do now, the skill in missile use could only increase.

Missiles are terrible right now because they're totally arcade-y and based on nothing that could actually resemble skill, leading to them being either OP as fuck or useless and just swinging between that.

Once they're tied into proper sensor mechanics (and when those fucking mechanics exist) it'll be a lot better. but simply removing difficulty in applying an already piss easy weapon isn't going to improve anything.

my issue with the current missile balance and this talk of 'skilled play' is that currently, skilled play is fucking dull. you watch starcraft pros, CSGO tourneys, that shit is entertaining. I assume it's fun to play at that level too, if you have the skill. in SC, with missiles being a non factor and TTK being so high, it's incredibly tedious. you're just raking each other's shields waiting for them to pop so you can get a couple hits in, rinse repeat for minutes until somebody fails.
if missiles could be employed in a way that they were actually difficult to shake for reasons other than being fired from right up your ass, they would lend a lot to speeding up fights and making the decision to fire a missile a lot more impactful. it seems like right now all you have to do is change direction to lose them. something's gotta give, either leave their maneuvering as weak as it is and allow target leading (my preference) or improve their maneuverability so they can actually hit things that aren't moving.

currently, there are no quiock takedowns in 1v1 fights. missiles only apply when you're ambushing a distracted opponent, and it just feels like a huge waste of potential, considering all the different types and sizes we have and they become basically irrelevant outside extremely specific situations.

I think all of you points are valid and I agree in spirit. Now I'm going to explain, as courteously as I can, why you're wrong about short ttk.

You can't really judge the current flight model as a finished idea because some fundamental things are missing. Once they are in place, it will justify the longer engagements and you will have the quick killing capability you want.

SC is going to be a long game, and we aren't meant to fight in an aquarium. That ttk is going to seem real short when your character is on his last available life before losing everything you can't insure.

2.6 is "vanilla" combat in that there is no ship's systems to be damaged for effect. You can shoot an engine pod off of a Cutlass or Vanguard, but that is supposed to cripple them, not disable like it does now. You will be able to damage systems directly which will speed up the time to disable a ship by a bunch. You will likely not want to blow up every ship you fight because of salvage and fencing stolen ships.

Finally, missiles do serve an important role in the current meta. When you shoot a missile at a player, they have to fight that missile until they evade it or get hit. You have to treat every missile as lethal because the indicator does not say what size is being launched at you or the aspect, you only know a missile is coming and a 3+ is lethal to almost anyone. Because you are dictating the fight when you launch missiles, you can create openings to attack or bug out like I did.

I agree with most of that however, a) I think you overstate the danger of missiles, all you really have to do is launch the right countermeasure or really just change direction, and b) it would be trivial for them to temporarily lower the shields' damage resistance to lower overall TTK until those aspects of gameplay are live, in the service of making the game good in the interim.

It's been a while since I did combat but in my experience while the Python has more hardpoints you lose so much time on target due to it's shit maneuverability the you end up doing less damage overall. It's also so much cheaper to replace Vultures.

How long ago have you flown a Vulture/Python or have you at all? Python got slapped pretty hard by the nerf hammer last year and now it isn't much good for combat, other than as a combat hauler, though I'm sure it could be a pretty good ship and I know it still has a very high hull tank. I abandoned like 5 of my missions and left though because I got sick of endless railgun spam and how CZs work now. Utter incompetence. It's a broken ass system, and I think that their shit is just so wildly out of sync that it can't keep up. Throw in the fact that it is clearly keeping different (arbitrary) lists between Open/Private/Solo:

Imagine if you will that there is a missions server (like there probably is) isolated from the others. Each time you accept/finish a mission, it calls to it to perform checks. Now imagine that this server is 20+ HOURS OUT OF SYNC with the main server. That's why we're so slow on seeing missions here, and after a day or two of civil war it starts going haywire with failures and stacking. (literally pick up missions until there's none left. Then go back in. Suddenly there's 10 again?)

So sometimes those missions you accept are 21+hrs old, failing instantly. Other times they're only 12, and the timer updates after it doesn't auto-fail.

Depends on your tastes, anon. An A-fit Vulture will run you somewhere around 20 million, so you can definitely do that. I have a FDS that is hull tanked to shit and can eat rails for days and it cost me around 60 million. If you're looking for an FDL it's going to be a lot more expensive, but that's okay because the FDL is for scrubs.

Go to Paradiso Outpost. The whole point of 17D is to stack Massacre missions from one of the factions currently in war. Most of the time, it'll be New 17D Alliance putting out missions. Keep mode switching until you have a sizeable stack (10 - 15, 20 if you feel patient) and then go grind out the CZ, siding with New 17D.

Engineers are a Horizons addition. They are NPCs scattered across the galaxy that offer upgrades to parts of your ships (FSD upgrades that give longer jump ranges, Multi-cannon upgrades that make them insanely good at busting through shields, Armor upgrades, etc.). Upgrades are made with materials and data you get from various sources. Upgrade stats are randomly generated and can be remade until you get the stats you like. They can be kind of a total grind, much like the rest of the game.

If you're currently looking to make credits, the Community Goals currently active in Fedmich is a good way. Go to any mission board to see the details and sign up. Read the thread for other sources of income.

Incendiary Rounds. It's a great upgrade. My Anaconda runs 7 Multi-cannons with that mod and 1 Multi-cannon with the Corrosive mod (increases the damage targets take). I tear through everything and with the Synthesis system, I'm able to remain in combat for a long time since I can just synthesize ammunition for my weapons.

The AspX is a meme ship. The dads love it to death and they praise it to high heaven saying shit like "you don't need an Anaconda, the Asp does everything it can, and it can land at outposts. The Asp is the true end game multipurpose ship".
In reality jump range and smuggling are the ONLY things it has going for it, and it barely outperforms the diamond back X while being much more expensive.
It has terrible shields, meh armor, and ok hardpoints, all for the low cost of an imperial clipper.
Back in the day before dumbfire missiles were nerfed into the ground an eagle could kill an asp with one salvo. They are still just as fragile, just not to missiles. The dads hate this and are doing everything in their power to make other ships weaker to give the Asp a chance.

If you fly an Asp you either like to explore who the hell likes to explore in this game? or are a dad, in most cases both.

It's probably the best price/performance option for getting around the bubble and grabbing Engineers materials since it actually has internal component space, unlike the DBX.

I'm still looking forward to one of them, yeah it has everything an Asp does but also a bunch of other perks so it's completely worth it in my opinion.
For the time being though, the Asp is being serviceable as hell for exploration/smuggling, will probably keep one around just in case.

you can use a grade 1 recipe and a lot of the common mats you find on literally any planetoid along with the relevant thing you want modded to powerlevel your way to grade 4, then you need 3 "sets" of materials to finally get to grade 5 then you just gather the mats for your part, say an FSD, and get the rank 5 grade FSD jump distance for your FSD.

But for weapons if you want to get the experimental effect your either roll for it (lol) or spend two standing buddy ranks with the engineer to get it guaranteed. then you just spend more common materials to get back to grade 4, then repeat from there.

If that's your plan just go for a Hauler. You can get them to ASP-tier by stripping them out. All you lose is one or two ly range and a few module slots that you'd keep empty anyway. That way when you get bored and want to die you can and lose less than 100k.

Ok, since everyone was being a bellend in the other thred:
So I decided to return to the world of ED for the first time in a long time.
I got 2,5m credits because for some reason all ym shit got deleted and I contacted an Admin and said "Hey I had a Type 6, WTF happened" and he was like: "Here's you last total wealth, have fun at Hawking Station"
I'm now sitting in a station with a brand new Type 6.
What should I equip it with? I'm not super into fighting more into exploring, hauling and maybe mining.
Guide me.
Also, should I get the expansion/DLC/whatever it is?
