Chrom/FeMU is optimal for Lunatic+ because of their pairup (they can solo the game together) and FemU's Lucina. Morgan is simply doable but Rightful King isn't nearly as gamebreaking as having Aether, hence why Chrom/Sumia is still inevitably their most eugenic pair because they get two daughters with it.

/feg/ needs to leave Chrom alone really, he's a lovely person and everyone seems to hate him.

Aether's proc rate is too low to be actually reliable, especially on higher difficulties. Sol and Reliable king is infinitely more useful, because that lets you activate Sol more than half the time when you start hitting caps. Even if you're just grinding to cap Aether is useless, V/V with Braves deals much more damage much more consistently and Sol is much more reliable for healing if you want to go that angle (neither of which Chrom!Cynthia even gets so lol) and at that point Aether is a waste of a skill slot

I disagree, Chrom IMO is criminally underrated as a character. I'd say he's one of the better FE lords as well.

He's not as irreverent and informal as lords like Hector and Ike, but he has more of a cynical, combative edge to him that lords like Marth, Eliwood and Roy lack, putting him closer tone-wise to lords like Sigurd and Ephraim.

His Gaius support and secondhand stories about him when he was traveling the world under the disguise of a common man really boosts his appeal for me. He has a playful self awareness that I think comes with him being older than other lords in the series.

Eliwood's support with Fiora about his view of the world and his relationship with it comes off as begging for pity, but Chrom's version is pretty much "Yeah, the world should be like this, but I'm more than ready to throw down." And that somewhat disillusioned but not necessarily bitter knightliness and gallantry really distinguish him. He's like a more self-aware version of "the perfect noble" Maribelle is always talking about.

Here's a dude who spent his entire life knowing his sister is the one in charge and spends most of it pretending to be a superhero in a country without an army, running law enforcement and having bbq's with his friends. Then his sister is dead and he's the next Exalt? It's great to watch his interactions with other leaders like Basilio, Gangrel or Walhart and him squirming under his own initial insecurities, the pressures of living up to Emmeryn's lofty standards, not becoming a tyrant like his father and becoming more of a complete man, just in time for Robin to play up his/her role and steal the spotlight.

Aqua (jpn) and Azura have some different characterization, especially in supports. Aqua is pretty silent and gloomy compared to Azura being more lively. I prefer Aqua, she's not exactly a bad person and has some decent supports with Lazward, Joker.

Welcome to Fire Emblem, where the developers still use a 30 year old ABC support system that limits characters to having three conversations.

If they want better characterization they really need to revamp the support system. There is no reason we should still be limping along with this god awful relic of a characterization system. It also doesn't help that they want to fill up as much of those conversations with memes and jokes and gimmick shit as possible, and then the localizers take it a step further.

Also they should really focus on limiting supports to characters who make sense and could have interesting conversations together, rather than forcing bad support conversations for every single character of the opposite gender just so that you can make anybody fuck whoever they want to.

I disagree, the problem with FE characterization has always been more that the majority of characters don't get any screen time after their initial recruitment. The support system format is just the byproduct of this. Ideally characters would have moments throughout the story where they have a chance to shine (like FE7 Matthew's Leila moments), but that would require IS not being lazy.

Those are just the two most notable examples that came to mind because they have the strongest initial dislike for Corrin, but the majority of the cast, as mentioned, is pretty much indifferent or at the very least doesn't really react to Corrin any differently than characters do to any other Lord who has recruited them into their army in the series.

That's because they keep putting more and more characters in every FE. Awakening has 50 (FIFTY) fucking playable characters. When you have that many people it's impossible to give them all relevant screen time during the story or even in something like base conversations. Getting rid of kids will help de-bloat the cast a lot which will be a good first step. But yeah, I rather have a smaller cast of characters that are more developed and have more screen time and more intimate (not necessarily romantically) supports.

FE7, 8 and 9 were really good with their characterization. Other than Matthew, it was nice how characters would introduce themselves to you in FE7, in a lot of cases a single like like Harken's would give you all you really needed to know about a character. The cast was just the right size that most of them had the opportunity to be shown off now and again.

I still stand by that FE8 had the best handling of the cast, there're like, 3 characters in the title that don't do anything and everyone else has some purpose in the plot even for just a few chapters. The game did much better than most on establishing that there's a backstory behind everything, with little details like how Garcia can't support Gerik but they know each other and the latter was inspired by the former.

And FE9 had base conversations and branches which are fucking great and don't need to be explained.
