I have a feeling you ran in with berserker stats or something. There's a huge discrepancy between bursty and tanky builds, you pretty much want to make yourself as durable as possible in PvP nowadays until you git gud.
That's why warriors and necromancers are babymode cancer, they have so many inherent/passive defenses that you don't need to git gud just to survive.

Compare that to thief or revenant (where all their defenses are active or need to be timed very strategically) and it gets way harder to play without experience, because you're going to eat one knockdown and explode after having all your burst blocked or absorbed or evaded.

First off: Learn what Agony Resistance (AR) is. Seriously. Short story, it's a stat that lets you do high level fractals without instantly dying. It only becomes relevant at later scales but once it does it makes or breaks your ability to do them.

Second: Don't join one of those "T4 qT meta builds + food + 600 LI" groups you see in the LFG.
Chances are they're either elitist faggots who'll chew you up for not knowing what you're doing, or they're shitters looking to be carried.

Aside from that, they're really just mini dungeons without outdated mechanics and balancing.

How the hell do I learn more recipes to have stuff that gives more xp to level up? Or am I supposed to spam jew backpacks atm? Im so confused, I managed to get some new stuff by mixing jewels and materials in the discovery tab, but is there any other option? Seems way more complicated than WoW.

Also im leveling up professions while im leveling up, is that a good idea? It seems to take AGES comapred to WoW where I always did that, i didnt care that it took longer time to reach max level, in the end I though it was fun and didnt have to do it when i reached max lv. But in GW2 it seems to take forever to level this up, i grinded copper for hours and im only level 35.

When i started the game i was able to do pvp and play whatever i wanted because i didnt need the elite specs to be competitive. Which meant there was alot more build variety since you didnt have to include a trait line that doubles your power, or doubles your survivability.

When i started the game Tarnished coast wasnt as boring to play with in wvw. Now all the care about is ppt, but we also have two wvw centered worlds in the same tier. At least before we didnt have to deal with two mega blobs.

When i started the game i felt like we had constant pve updates, biweekly story updates in between festivals. Festivals actually made you more gold than playing in regular maps so there were more people around doing festival activities. I had around 10 irl friends that loved the casual pve gameplay gw2 provided so often. We would do dungeon on the daily because we had a choice between lots of different dungeons, and lots of different classes and we did what we felt like. When raids came out we felt like we had to stick to the meta to get through them. Dungeons were never like that, we could do whatever and still win in decent time and it was the best way to make gold so my casual friends would always be on, making new characters and dressing them up.

Gw2 use to be fun, but now all my friends are gone, and i havent played in months because after you have 4k hours and have done the same fractals, and the same raid for the past year it just isnt fun.

I never felt like "i shouldnt leave because i invested too much time". I've felt more like "i shouldnt stay here because i've wasted too much time"

i still stop by /gw2g/ hoping to see someone talk about new content so i can stop by, but it just doesnt happen. Plus i'm happily playing other games with my friends again.

GW2 is like the only MMO that's actually improved over time lately.
Class balance and traits were way worse at launch, the only problem with them now is that without the e-specs from the expansion most professions are underpowered, which is really the natural progression of things. Anyone arguing the game is shit because you can't be top-tier without buying it is playing the wrong genre.
Which is better than the messy fucking system at launch where people quickly concluded half the game was just completely irrelevant if you want to be good.

WvW is the only thing arguably worse, aside from that all the shittiness comes from the lack of new content causing everything that we have to be totally overplayed. Casuals need not apply.

I can't speak for EVE, but WoW has been actively getting worse for many years now.

I feel like WvW is too imbalanced for that.
The entire gamemode really sucks for competitive because you can just jump servers and be on the winning team as opposed to winning matches based on your performance.
sPvP works with seasons/competitive because you have tiering, different matches for competitive and not, and each match is always equal for both sides.

If server transfers weren't a thing then it might be doable. Servers transfers don't even need to exist anymore since megaservers; they should at least restrict them to one every few months since the literal only reason to transfer now is to play WvW with friends or jump to the winning server for easy wins.

It's a good game starved of content.
Compare it to XIV, a bad game with loads of content.

GW2 is far harder to be truly good at, but content trickles out so slowly that everyone and their mom has already mastered it all by the time the next bit comes out and the game feels like it's constantly sweeping between bullshit difficulty and being easy enough to do in your sleep.

anyone with half a brain can beat raids after reading a guide because even savage dps checks are lenient and all the "difficult" mechanics boil down to simple shit like memorizing patterns and knowing exactly what's about to come or you're going to die pretty much without fail.
what little difficult content there is in gw2 (pretty much the one raid and nightmare fractal) rely on you being able to react to things that you might not see coming.

so yes, there's one, maybe two things more difficult than a8s by virtue of the fact that there's only one piece of challenging PvE content in the game.

On engineer, are stuff like flamethrower and grenades and bombs actually used, or does just using your gun do more damage?

Most of your damage comes from your kit abilities. For condi engineer this is especially true. Once you get scrapper you can deal decent damage in open world with just the hammer.

Haven't played in forever, whats a good class to play these days for pve junk? Daredevil looks neat, but I'm probably leaning more towards warrior. Seems like it's still a safe bet.

You have to constantly swap between all your kits for your strongest cooldowns to maximize damage output.

Honestly, it's a bit of a train wreck right now because engineers wind up performing this crazy act of swapping bars and trying their best to keep track of cooldowns that you can't see, and they're STILL the least relevant profession in PvE right now.

I honestly think kits should never have been made able to swap so quickly, because now ANet have to balance around them effectively having access to up to 30 skills at any given time, and while elementalists have almost as many, they each perform a far more specific niche and also have cooldowns between them.

Every class but ranger and mesmer will do great in open world, they got stuck with support roles which got them the top most wanted slots in raids and fractals but they play like trash when you're solo.
Warrior will forever be relevant in both. Daredevil is pretty fun too, but underrated in raids.

Weapon compression. Only 1 weapon per class. New mechanic (ala the way players determine trebuchet attack range) would have to be developed to allow players to manually aim their AoEs. fix the snowflake breather item. gear stats should always come from your regular headgear, though cosmetic replacement is fine. breather should give a small amount of extra stats to make up for underwater weapon shittery and/or allow an extra trinket upgrade. it breaking your rune set and requiring a 7th so you can keep your bonus is the most annoying issue with uw gear

aside from that, having to switch gear and playstyle during a run is annoying, new uw content should be dedicated uw biomes, make it worthwhile for people to learn uw rotations and have environmental mechanics and shit aside from "i can also move up and down for no reason"

I'm going to assume you're talking about raids, because revenant is super relevant in PvP right now.
Revenant is far from shit, it just doesn't have a place in the cutting edge raid meta outside of maybe one encounter because other professions can pick up the slack if they're good enough.
Rev is still a good crutch for a bad druid, necromancer, or chronomancer, and great for QoL in certain mechanics.
