Each episode following the witcher Geralt and his pals from Temeria as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. The writing is dreadful; the game was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time a character was to express anger, the devs wrote instead that the character shouted "O Kurwa"

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Marcin's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Wild Hunt by the same Todd Howard. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing The Witcher at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play Skyrim" And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "The Witcher 3" you are, in fact, trained to play Skyrim.

Iorveth and Roche also used to appear together a lot grudgingly working together against Nilfgaard and Redania under Dijkstra (that's why there's a Scoia'tael camp with nothing in it but a gwent card outside Novigrad). They originally did a lot of the stuff Triss does in the game now, with raiding the Witch Hunter barracks, helping track down Dandelion, etc.

Hey y’all, just started Witcher 1 on PC. Make it inside Vizima, just about to head to the swamp for the rest of the Sephirots and to make Kalkstein like me.

Loving it so far. Couple questions though:

1. Are books worth it? I want to take full advantage of the alchemy/monster systems, so I’ve been buying and reading anything that adds to my glossary/bestiary/ingredients/formulae. But they are really expensive. It’s nice to know, for instance, what’s effective against a Striga, but I don’t know if/when I’ll encounter one. I’m playing practically blind, so I’m trying to keep myself spoiler-free about each area.

2. Am I going to learn what happened before Geralt’s amnesia? The King of the Wild Hunt showing up near the Sarcophagus felt like a reference I was meant to get. Does the game assume I’ve read the books or something?

3. How often will I be changing swords? I’ve refrained from using my meteorite ore on either sword in case I find a new one soon.

4. Are any auxiliary weapons actually worth it? I just sell daggers/axes I come across. I got a torch and an assassin’s dagger that look like they might be useful, but I’m still not sure.
