I'm a babby playing around with HoI III. I've played HoI IV before and used France to learn the game (because you can ignore navy and airforce, your goal is clear (survive), and most of the war is fought on or near your soil so you're not forced to learn about supply just yet). I've reorganized my order of battle and it looks like this in the North. My next post will show a screenshot of the situation in the South. I'm also planning to use diplomatic influence on Belgium and the Netherlands as quickly as possible, so I can draw a defensive line from Amsterdam across the Great Rivers to the Maginot Line (a much easier line to defend compared to my weak Northern border, and it keeps Belgium and the Netherlands in the war).

You cannot deny, EU4 is he best gsg ever created. You cannot argue that it is just relying on your allies anymore after the new update and all new institutions spawn in Europe rather than Asia or Africa which makes sense. It has the most in depth economic system and some of the most satisfying war mechanics. There's nothing like being dug into the mountains alongside a great general with a severely outnumbered force and still coming out on top or being forced to plan the perfect campaign as your allies do not owe you any favours, but still triumphing regardless. And don't even get me started on the multiplayer gameplay. The complex trade, alliances, coalitions, etc. It's just great. A great well rounded gsg.

My knowledge is based mostly on BICE something that you should be playing faggot
Maginot forts are level 10 iirc, cant be bothered to check tough, so one infantry division per fort is sufficient.
Getting Belgium and Netherlands to allies before axis attack them helps you a lot, and your OOB looks just fine.

On the south front, depending on those fort levels, which i assume are level 1-3, you are set with one infantry division per mountain/urban terrain. I think that middle sector is hills, so it may need more troops. iirc italy joins the war couple of months after germans have attacked, so you should have had the time to make your defensive line in the north, and you can move a reserve corps here, should it be needed.

If you are going to build planes, just focus on interceptors, to deny german's air to ground.

Colonialism is also almost impossible for anyone other then Europe. Manufactories is the easiest one to get as non Europe since it essentially is weighted to be more likely the more manufactures you have. Blob into the Hordes if you don't feel you can take on PLC. Take religious ideas first if you go east/south. If you do try to fight the polish blob than I recommend taking admin ideas due to a large number of their land being Orthodox

For money trade is on of your best bets, abit hard as you are not part strong trade node.

For army comps you want to fill out combat with. Front line should be mostly infantry with enough cav to properly flank. Back line should be mass artillery(which will be really fucking expensive) throw in a few extra infantry to replace damaged regiments in long fights. Oh and Shock is king early game.

While CK2, EU4, and HOI4 are improving with each new dlc, I doubt that they will ever reach the praise of Victoria 2. Paradox now has a very different design philospohy compared to the one for Victoria 2, and if Victoria 3 was ever made it would be a step back with Paradox taking out features that were in Victoria 2 to either fix them and release as DLC or just never implement

To be fair, you're making this sound way easier than it is. If you're playing as Russia or have access to Russia it's fine. I was playing a Little Entente France a while back and had Europe entirely on lockdown, but not Japan. France is a really fucking long distance away from Japan so a naval invasion was risky, and I couldn't get access into Russian territory either. Not even the "invade Russia to invade Japan" gimmick worked because Russia had built up 0 global tension (which is a retarded system anyway and HoI III's threat system is both more plausible and more fun).

Sunni has a neg 2% to converting so you need the 3% from religious or wait a long time to get Patriarchal authority up to max. Having both goes a longer way. Religious is also good because it gives you a cb on everyone not your religion which as Orthodox generally means every other country in the game

You want to use merchants to steer trade towards your home node. For example I believe by default your starting merchants are steering it to Novgorod from Kazan and Kiev. Should you get more you then can steer trade to those two node to further increase how much is being sent to Novgorod ie pushing from Crimea to Keiv to Novgorod.

Generally the only way to tech up faster is having a good adviser and monarch. You con focus it for an extra +2 points a month but you lose -1 for the other two.

The PLC will almost always go for the Teutonic Order first. They need Danzig to fully unify into one country.

Reachmen; yes, they're russian. Nothing between HR and HF, though the Reach do go into that area a bit. No Imga; they were decided as being too unimportant. I don't think there are Orcs in Valenwood, outside of popups, and while there aren't graphical differences (to save on processing) there are traits for Khajiit and cultures for Argonians (possibly also some traits).

That's up to Grigsby and 2by3 Games. I think they've stated before that they don't get enough per game on Steam, and that they're too HC grog niche to make a living distributing via the Steam model. The WW2 East front is a big draw comparatively, and I think was Matrix's trial.

The Battlefront guys (Combat Mission series) won't do Steam either, and they've been asked numerous times, but they're happy doing their own thing and it works for them, and they are well below the radar for the vast majority of PC gamers

Forebears and Crowns. Though there are Yokudans living on some small isles to the west, but I don't remember if they have their own culture.

As for the tribes, I'm guessing they're Imga category and are too unimportant to include. Maybe they might get assigned as either Breton or Redguard with their own culture in the future, but I don't think they'd be worth a graphical culture (and so not being represented as their own race).

I don't have a lot of experience with Dagerfall but basically, the area by the Bjoulsae river is supposed to be inhabited by nomads and at times they raided Wayrest. There's also something abou them being able to live in the river (as in, underwater) but that's up to interpretation.

After fucking up the religious league war for Lion of the North I'm going to play Austria and form the HRE. I've played over a thousand hours of EU4 but never formed the HRE, should be a nice relaxing game.

Anyone else only play nations that have achievements? I'm not obsessed with it I just feel like my games have more of a goal if I can earn an achievement. Though I also lose motivation to keep playing if I get the achievement before the end of the game.

Interceptors are best against bombers, but you need fighters if you come entangled in an air war with other fighters. Ur interceptors won't stand a chance against them.

While I generally agree with you that the game is still an abstraction compared to real life, I do want to note that the game goes from Dec 7th, 1941 into 1946 (if the Japanese player survives) with single-day turns. My PBEM partner and I generally do one turn a day, which mirrors the real-life time allotment you mention. I have about the same amount of time as Zhukov or Nimitz did per day to input my orders.

Now, if you can imagine that, unlike them I do not have a lot of subordinate carrying out the minor details (logistics, air, etc.), and I control ALL forces, not just American or British, my responsibilities are quite huge.
