The problem is that the Devotion is the best of the LMGs, which is unfortunate. The L-STAR is niche, and the Spitfire is hands down the most useless gun in the game, since every other Pilot weapon either fills a specific niche or otherwise outperforms the Spitfire in specific ways. Look to the assault rifles if you're willing to branch out to other classes.

Go Pharah mode with your core on objectives or on groups of enemies

Find a nice long lane to set up in. The more ways you can see people approach you, the better.

Lay down your tether traps in spots like behind vehicles or around blind corners so people can't find and destroy them before they trigger.

Remember to land clusters directly on someone, or exactly where they are standing and will be standing for the next few seconds. It is also incredible at smoking out cheeky pilots inside buildings.

This somewhat contradicts the first bit, but remember to move from spot to spot. Don't wait for people to come to you, you can still have an effect on a fight from a very far distance.

Flight Core and Hover are kinda weird. I usually user the latter when I know the other guy is preoccupied, or if they're a Ronin in sword-core. They're probably the weakest parts of NS's kit.

If the titan is getting shot at, he can just dive for cover or go to a different part of the map. If he's getting rodeo'd, putting your back against a wall or having good reflexes means you can 180 and swat them out of the air before they can get anywhere.

The rest is just mopping up pilots who are too dumb to remain behind cover.

Guys get SO Angry when you do that and, in my cases at least, you can rack up a lot of kills just from them being so pissed and chasing you down. That said, I have to play this way because my connection is shitty.

ALSO quick tip: Styder-based Titans (Ronin + Norstar) are REALLY weak to Rodeos as they go quick and hit you hard. THAT SAID, there are to easy ways to deal with them in Northstar. First off, fire a cluster missile at a wall and back towards it. If you get good at this, you should be able to get them off without taking damage.
Alternatively, get to an open area and just wait until they finish. All Rodeo-ers jump off backwards from you so you should be able to, in theory, quick turn around and kill them if they have nothing to escape to. With Phase Embark, you can quickly get off and on the titan, now with a brand new battery for your troubles!

Also flight core is for when dudes are distracted or trapped or both.

Is Northstar considered a bad mech?

I've only played about 4-5 hours of the MP, and have been using it exclusively. I seem to get by pretty well with it, though I don't think I've gotten any use out of tether.

It looks cool, is fast, and Viper is my favorite anime character.

It's not a bad titan, and the titan power curve is pretty gentle across the board in this game.

Most people would probably put Tone at the top with Ion and maybe Legion up there with her. Scorch and Ronin are more niche--but not terrible--they're both just titans that can get into situations where their kits can't do much. Northstar is floating somewhere in the middle of the pack.

You're going to be able to do your thing in pretty much every engagement. A charged railgun shot will take a doomed titan from full to dead. Cluster missiles output a respectable amount of damage against titans and, when enhanced, absolutely murder anything inside of the building (or on top of the roof) you fire them into. Your core kind of sucks, but you can still squeeze value out of it, and the rest of your kit is strong enough to generally make up for that. I'm a fan of running with the extra dash (making you tied for the fastest titan in the game, along with Ronin), but there's a case to be made for an extra electric smoke.

Northstar is the most map-reliant Titan of the lot. She either shines or is rendered severely crippled.

She is top tier on maps that have many paths, an open ceiling and most especially tricky openings and vantage points that only she could take advantage of like Angel City, Boomtown and Blackwater.
At a massive disadvantage on maps with LANES and tunnels and few sneaky spots like Crash Site and Complex.

Play North not as a sniper, but as a harasser who fights at mid range and keeps trying to lure the enemy titans your way. You have the speed to outmaneuver everyone except a Ronin, whom you can evade with your power of flight to stay out of sword range and then tethering him after he phases.

You should get a lot of use out of that Tether and Cluster. Take note of how both of them recharge so quickly (you'll have another Cluster ready about two seconds after the last one stops exploding), you should be throwing them out all the time. The two combined are quite powerful, up to 4000 damage if they're stuck in place to your tether and the cluster right on top of them.

If you're in one of those maps like Crash Site where you'll have little opportunity to use those Viper Thrusters, you should hold off on the titanfall until you have some bulkier allied titans to take cover behind.

I want to be strong for her though. I wanna be able to supply. What do I do?I keep getting caught up in all the tight hall ways when I ambush and there's like three mechs and 3 guys trying to rodeo her.
The core never seems to be up when I need it and I'm stuck having to choose to reload or choose to spaz my shield and cooldowns to get away from things.
Also with something chasing me, I'm not sure whether to get closer or to run.

Scoirch is a feisty girl who wants to catch people with their pants down so she can get to work.

The reason everyone says to take the shield kit is because, barring someone being dumb enough to stand in a burning can for a full duration, it's your main source of damage. Your thermite launcher is mostly for pokes and igniting things.

Don't shoot the moment you see some distracted enemies. Get close, throw down cans, and then announce your presence with an opening volley.

Do not aim cans where the titans are located, aim where you're about to force them to be located.

Once you start massing tick damage, your core meter will skyrocket.

Give us an idea of how your usual gameplan goes when you catch someone off guard. Might be easier to pin down what you're doing.

As a side note, sometimes Scorch just isn't a good choice on a map. LTS on Black Water will not go pretty with Scorch because all it takes is one pilot to spot you anywhere from the middle.

are you aware of how turbo engine works with dashes on stryder chasis titans? if not: it increases individual dash recharge time by 2 seconds, for a total of 8 seconds per dash with turbo engine and 6 seconds per dash without turbo engine.

Well, mostly I'm running around the outside and trying to flank. when I do, I usually panic and fire all my stuff, or forget I have stuff to use, or use my fire wall as a ranged attack and then move into it like a retard.
Also I keep not aiming my cans correctly.
And unfortunately I mostly stick to the gun, which is prob what's killing me.

youll panic less the more you play, thats normal when you first start. about your cannisters, they dont fire exactly from your weapon or even in the middle of your screen like your thermite launcher does; they come from a bit off to the left.
i marked around where they pop out in pic related. once i realized this, it solved most of my cannister related aiming issues.
boot up a private lobby and test it out to figure out more exactly where they fire from.

like the other guy said, dont fire immediately. you want to get as close to the enemy titan as possible before they notice you, so you can melt them with your shield. it also makes setting up your gas traps easier when you are not being shot at, so youll be less likely to panic

yes of course you can go just as fast with a gamepad as you can with a kb/m, thats not the issue. the issue is it takes more work and is generally harder to do with a gamepad. aim assist will help but will also get you killed in some cases because of aim assist tracking AI instead of pilots.
the difference is very easy to see, compare general console gameplay to general pc gameplay and you will see a big difference in mobility. and no its not about pc master whatever, its about people working with what they have. console players have a gamepad so they gotta make due with that.
yes there are gamepad users who can go fast and move just as well as a kb/m user, but thats not the majority. if you are one of those users then great, use a gamepad on pc and have fun

i dont play scorch much and im not the best scorch player so keep that in mind. depends the map and enemy titan, but if i can get to melee or near melee range without being seen then i:
fire a cannister behind the titan, immediately launch firewall at the titan, and then fire my thermite at the titan or the cannister if fire wall did not already ignite it(it usually does). ill fire my other cannister where i think hes going, use thermite launcher to ignite it or firewall if it lines up. continue to close the distance, saving dash if possible(they will almost surely dash away once you put your shield in their face). after that i just try to do everything to keep my flame shield on them.
whether or not to put flame shield up early to absorb damage again depends on the titan and other things, but i will do that sometimes and try to keep at least 50% capacity reserved for damage.
if either of us are not dead in the initial struggle, then ill start the process over or retreat if im low on hp.

Perhaps I'm thinking that my titan is megamode and I can just fuck everything and take no damage, which isn't the case apparently. they are artificial killstreaks and it's practically impossible to stay in one the entire time.

tone is imo the easy mode titan. i used to think legion as well, but you really have to manage your ammo with switching firing modes and be able to handle pilots pestering you with MGLs. legion is pretty vulnerable to pilots without smart core if the pilot has cover

Is it wrong I feel the game is more fun when titans aren't involved? It's fine if there's one or two on the battlefield, but going against 6 on the enemy team isn't fun in the slightest.

I either have to take pot shots with them as a pilot and die trying to get a core off of them because electric storm / being shot off the back, or I take potshots as any other titan which is so clunky it's insane.

Whenever there's a difference of titans between the two teams, that's an often anti-fun period.

One guy gets a lucky streak in the beginning of the match with several kills and gets a Ronin ahead of everyone else, he'll dash and sword through the map to rack up a tens of pilot kills very easily to the point that the other team will rarely be able to catch up.

If there's one thing that I think is a definite lesser from the first game, it's the static Titan Build Meter versus the first's Titan Timer. The first mostly ensured that both sides would be getting Titans regularly on both sides at roughly the same time. You know when it's coming because it's a countdown. MOST importantly, you reduced that timer simply by doing damage to anyone, so even if you lost the fight in a shootout, your 75% damage to the enemy pilot would cut off precious seconds from the timer anyway.

The second one is more Kill Streaky, first kills get their robots and those who are getting stomped are not likely to be getting their robots soon. Those who aren't that good as a pilot will have fewer opportunities to get their robot. Worst of all, you get no addition to your build meter unless the pilot/grunt is killed.

The second system removing the damage=meter from infantry creates bigger disparities between teams having a Titan presence.

Part of the issue is that Titans are much more valuable in TF2, which makes it all the more apparent when a Titan gets fucked up. You can't trust the AI to make good use of arguably the most important field asset in the game.

I'd rather find a more even match that would be more enjoyable, win or lose. I would be fine with the last three. The others not so much. I would really like it if the devs gave us two or more options per Tactical and if at least one of them was the TF1 outfits. Especially the sniper ones unf.
