What ever happened to the Redeemer?

Is it getting scrapped and were getting refunds?

It's definitely in need of a serious redesign.

Yup. The puke-green is replaced with red as the accent colour. I like it a lot more than the Covalex Cat.

Current Redeemer model is pretty much a 3D concept, it needs completely rebuilding to work with damage states and to be up to new CIG standards.

It's funny that it was the winning entry, but Paul is being given ships like the 85X after making the universally despised Vanguard. Elwin, another TNGS hire, was one of the main people making the motherfucking Caterpillar.

When SC gets to a state of something like 4.0 or 5.0 (very far from now), I wish to dedicate myself to destroying vanduul ships. It's my calling. I'll join an org determined to kill them constantly in the real PU
>>
>>163790001
Which gunship was Elwin involved in?
>>
Alright guys, let's talk 325A loadouts.

I've spent about 6 hours in AC with the stock load out now, and I'd like to start experimenting with different load-outs.

What's a good S2 to replace the stock fixed wing lasers with? I'd like something with a little higher ROF than the stock lasers.

Also, opinions on leaving a high damage per shot S2 weapon on a gimbal for the front as a sniping / finishing / opportunistic weapons versus just stripping the gimbal off and putting a fixed S3 with similar muzzle velocity to my 2 x S2 mounts to maximize alpha?

>>163789780

I have a stick, but I've always been shit with it so I generally only use it in single player games. So, I'll probably be using mouse control.

I've been doing most of my fighting with the fixed lasers which has been easy enough with the mouse (coming from War Thunder). I'll switch over to the gimbal'd mass driver for long range sniping, punching additional holes when shields down, or to squeeze a shot or two in when I can't quite get the fixed lasers on target.
>>
>>163790161
Seems autistic. Why?
>>
>>163790019

I was so fucking hyped for the Buccaneer before they revealed the concept.

It looks cool, but I was hoping for the Drake equivalent of the 300i or Avenger. Something with a cramped interior space for long range loitering.
>>
>>163790259
I don't remember the team name, but I'm quite sure he was the dude who was working alone, but still managed to deliver higher quality than the other teams.

Sounds like Pitchfork is right up your alley: their goal is to take back and hold former UEE systems that the Vanduul have occupied.

>>163790324
I was looking forward to a replacement for the bloated Cutlass, which also didn't happen. Buccaneer turned into a pure fighter, which it will probably be pretty good at. It's geared up to be a decent short ranger, though.
>>
>>163790259

I can't remember what it was called but it was a bit like a futuristic AC-130, with a turret on top. Concept was cool but very space-plane-y.

The model was very high quality but he couldn't keep up with the others because he was on his own. I don't think that the interior was finished.

Ultimate TNGS would have been Boomslang exterior with Redeemer-like interior, modelled by Elwin plus Shimapan guys.

>>
>>163790324

Honestly that seems like the kind of ship that should be most common. Single crew ships with small, comfy interiors and a little bit of cargo space that are well suited to solo adventurers.

Oddly enough, it's also the most neglected ship category out there with pretty much only the 300 series and Avenger having the right mix of capabilities.

I don't want a pure fighter, I don't want a ship that requires a second crew member to be 100% utilized, and I don't want a specialist ship.

>Buccaneer turned into a pure fighter, which it will probably be pretty good at.

It reeks of NPC fodder to me, for Super Hornet pilots to mow through while they stroke their micropenis.

It's got a very odd mix of guns and if the Herald is any indication it will have zero flexibility on missiles. Cockpit view looks good and I'm sure it will be fast, but I think that between the Hornet, Gladius and Sabre this niche is already covered.

I was kind of hoping CIG would create some kind of "guns for hire" system. Obviously the UEE needs whatever help they can get fighting back the vanduul, so maybe they'd pay people certain amounts of UEC for killing certain amounts of vanduul, with escalating amounts for larger targets (a single soldier is pennies, and a capital ship is a boatload of money,at the price of them being hard to kill). Through being an autist and reading the lore, apparently there's a place on Selene (Vega II) in Vega called the children of Orion who do just that: go into vanduul space, kill some, then come back for pay.

I don't really expect some ultra complicated system for it. I just want to hunt large vanduul ships like their bombers, whatever frigate they might get, etc with some kind of return.

If not that, I'd gladly take up missions to destroy rebel groups on planets or something.

>What makes a tarantula better than a Mantis GT-220?

Better accuracy, no windup time, high damage per shot. More efficient overall.

Right now laser cannons are pretty good, so maybe try the M5A's.

>Any advice on missiles?

No idea what the Freelancer gets but S1 missiles are garbage, might as well use Marksman. Best S2 missiles are Tempest and Dominator. Not tried all of the S3 missiles but the Arresters are very, very good.

>>163795530
It's a skill cannon. A few volleys will kill an SH. The mantises are fine, but they run out of ammo fairly quickly, and you're likely to miss most shots. If not the Tarantulas, get the C - 227 repeaters. Never run out of ammo. Overall energy weapons are your best bet, but for AC Tarantulas are bomb

The PTU is completely open to all backers now. I think the 2.6 PTU testers had a client version of Spectrum to test out or something, but the version right now is just the web-version on the PTU site which any backer can copy his account to to try it out.
>>
>>163797050
No it's not just you.

1) Energy shotguns 900 years in the future still require a pump action mechanic, because TACTICOOL SHOTGUN.

2) Point blank missing with shotgun is not bullshit 'because reasons'.

3) Aimbot shitters bypass the 5-6 second TTK and simply go for head shots.

4) Bypass armor all together by shooting people from behind, because armor 900 years in the future doesn't apply to your back, only chest and legs because MUH SPACE MARINE.

Poor design decisions, and hardly any weapon balance has been tweaked since they basically released it a few days ago over Christmas.

>>163798584

No more shield tanks. Plasma bypasses resistance and shield strength maxes out at two modded boosters.

The shield changes are supposedly "experimental and only going to be implemented in live if if there is overwhelming support" but we've heard exactly that same bullshit before with the ship transfers.

>As a consequence, we do not have to change the fundamental core engine at all which is why this change has had absolutely no effect on our development of Star Citizen.
really, why did CR had to word the newsletter that way? I feel like it's almost intentional or something
>>
>>163798830
The ballistic guns like the Tarantula, if used properly, will kill targets a lot faster than energy weapons of equivalent size, but you run into the issue of ammo. Energy weapons do not run out of ammo, but they don't so as much damage. In AC, a mode where you will probably die a few times, ballistics would probably be preferred. In the PU, where ammo may not be available, energy weapons may be preferred.

Want to but I just got back into the game so theres not much for me to tell or post.

Still got my Vulture and quickly found out even though its almost fully upgraded without engineering i got fucking assraped by ships just a single size bigger, not even 20 seconds into a fight with a Python or dropship and I'm down to 50% hull, nigger what the fuck

Don't use shotgun
Don't use energy weapons at all

Remember to use your generic tacticool assault rifle which uses 1000 year old ballistic technology.

The fouling wouldn't be much of an issue. Caseless would make the heat issue in space worse, but I can imagine space-rifles having cooling systems or just heat sinks.

Cased Telescoping would be the best of both worlds. Image is a bunch of 40mm cannon rounds so not really applicable to rifles, but this layout has a ton of advantages and I expect we'll see it in about 100 years when NATO gets tired of 5.56.

At this point I think we have to accept the fact that everyone at CIG is tone deaf when it comes to PR and marketing.

They THINK they're really good at selling ships when in reality, it's just the massive SC dads and whales who keep buying the ships no matter how CIG markets them.

The Holiday stream shows to me that CIG just doesn't understand that showing progress is really what gets new backers invested.
>>
>>163800959
CIG is a small family start-up company who hires hundreds of employees, with the goal of making CR's dream game. It's not a company like Activizion-Blizzard with the goal of establishing a handful of highly popular franchises to make the most money possible.

CIG's value will mature over the years, since they've already got like 4 global offices and are shipping the largest crowd-funded games in history.

They had nothing, now they have 2 games (almost) and a bunch of offices. These office assets are worth a lot of money and will increase in value.

CIG will also get more efficient at creating games, as long as they keep their talent on board, who are familiar with their production pipeline, and can make plenty of sequels. If SQ42 has good reception, they will have an easy time maintaining the franchise. That's how AB did well with Starcraft and WoW, etc.

They should really go easy on the nickel & dime bullshit, though. And remove Ben from decision-making. A nice cosmetic cash shop would be inoffensive.

Ben decided it was a good idea to put limited availability on certain digital items, i.e. Vanduul scythes and was the one who decided to price them at like $300.

I'm pretty sure he was the one behind the decision to take away LTI except for concept sales.

He's since been promoted to "director of ships" which pretty much mean he's the one behind pricing and probably a bunch of other shit and dictating their value. Just take a look at their shitty webstore and the obscene prices to understand why I'm salty about it.

Say what you want about /v/ but at least they are right when they laugh at $15,000 DLC prices.

People keep saying that LTI is not important or that there won't be grind, but these people are idiots. Not sure about heat but the M5A is the better gun overall. The longer range is nice but the main thing is the accuracy: Badgers and Panthers got nerfed to shit on that front. They lose accuracy as they fire, and the spread gets pretty bad pretty fast.

>>163802302

Other than the basic PTU missions we have no idea what kind of rate for UEC is realistic. Remember that the Polaris is supposed to be shared by 10+ people, it's the type of ship that is owned by an org.

If a 30 person org wants to run a Polaris plus escorts then that's only 1 million UEC each, the equivalent of four Vanguards.

Personally I think that these big ships should be out of the reach of the average player acting alone. Not everyone should have one.

The thing is they could literally do this in the star marine module right fucking now and it would work. Have the defenders spawn on a station with a few ships and have the attackers spawn on a dropship with a few escorts. Not sure on which 300 series ship to pledge on.
I'm torn between the 315p and 325a - Most reviews mention that it's usually better to go for the cheaper ships because you can fit them out to be just as good.

So my question is - is the targeting system on the 325a worth the extra $5 USD? Or is the scanner / jump engine more valuable overall?

You mean "not fun for me".

I'm not even the guy you're replying to but what you just described sounds fun.
>>

>a shoebox arena where spaceplanes crash into the map trying to shoot infantry is not fun for anyone.
Why are you even playing SC if you dont like SC. You do realize SC is selling because its combined arms right? There is literally hundreds of games for space combat that do it better and hundreds for space infantry games that do it better. SC is does both which hardly any games do.

>instead of being forced to arrange people to get together in the PU which never works
If this gameplay never happens in the PU to the point where you have to arrange people to make it happen, maybe it's not the most important thing to need to test.

I only supported you idea because I thought it would be fun, not because it was a good idea.
>>
>>163804167
Oh so now you realize that something not existing is not the same as something existing, well done you gained a brain cell! Now if you can just figure out why not being able to test a fundamental part of the game is a problem then you will figure out why you're a moron.
>>
>>163803862
>>163803969

The repeaters are still good if you get right up on your enemy, as in under 500m, and they are not moving too fast.

With perfect accuracy the DPS is a fraction higher than the M-series cannons, but the M-series have a much easier time hitting the target.

The size 1 repeaters, the CF-007 Bulldogs, are still really accurate and they match OK with the size 2 cannons.

This doesn't answer your specific question, but I think address your overall concern:

6 months (or however long) into the full release of the game. What's gonna be more useful. A 1 man quick ship with decent speed and operating range (that has potentially better sensors)? Or a slightly less shitty 1 man fighter?

Well, speaking for myself here, but I bought the game on the promise of it being a great space combat game, which was the main selling point at the beginning. I don't give a shit about the mediocre fps, and smooshing two shitty games together into one shitty combined ops game isn't exactly tantalizing.
>>
>>163804439
>talk to real people
I agree, you're too stupid to be considered a person.

Is there a way to set my guns to alternating fire instead of simultaneous fire?
>>
>>163805382
You could set half your guns to group 2 and alternate mouse clicks. Admittedly, not a great option, but its there.
>>
>>163803712

To maximise damage on target you want to use all of your guns, which means picking guns with similar projectile velocities.

Damage and speed stats are here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11B81QpGLgc2GeFsfLnVQLxGrqIfhKDKW1BiZ44E2HV8/edit#gid=2125521889

Worth bearing a few things in mind:

1) DPS given here assumes 100% accuracy and no spin time for miniguns. In-game the automatic weapons are substantially less accurate, and have much shorter range, than the slower-firing weapons.

2) Size 3 weapons are, with a couple of exceptions, punching well below their weight in terms of damage especially once accuracy is considered. It may be better to use gimballed S2 guns if you are more accurate with them.

3) Considering all of the above the GT-220 Mantis guns are fun as fuck.

Personally for a 325A I would go for Tarantulas: S3 on the nose and S2 on the wings. Good DPS and as good as perfect velocity matching.

If you want an energy loadout then the M4A and M5A cannons are very good in this patch: the new speeds and combat ranges suit them perfectly. DPS drops to basically nothing once they overheat however, making them shitty against Cutlasses and Vanguards unless you can mount 800-1000+ DPS worth of gun.

CIG should also make a dedicated farming module since farming is a situation that could possibly happen in the PU.

When will people understand that modules were only supposed to be a thing until they got everything together in one place--hence 3.0.

Now in Vanduul swarm they just seem to stop working, with no obvious way to get an explanation as to why. Also missiles are replenished less frequently now?

What's this pirate swarm thing, better REC or just to be avoided?

When racing is any part of the atmospheric model in (such that orientation would have an effect on lift etc.) or is it still a free-flight model?

Got a question... new to the game, although been following for a while. Thought my system would handle it, but bought it with the Christmas sale and found my processor wasn't actually a quad core and it didn't. Have now rectified that...

However, it plays like a dog. Single-digit frames... 1 per second seems to be about right for what I'm seeing. Googling shows people with similar setups to mine getting around 40fps. What the hell am I doing wrong? What do I need to set?

AMD A10-7860K radeon r7 CPU
16gb ram
Radeon R9 270X

Not completely hardware literate but I think I tick all the boxes for better than minimum specs? But I could almost draw the frames faster than the PC does.

You are indeed speaking like a true Dad. With no idea of what is fun.
Elite Dangerous turned into the boring it is now from Dad's insistence to remove anything that threaten their illusion of a free universe, like scripted mission or market balanced to make trading fun rather than realistically boring.

You will play the market, but the Kessel run can only be lucrative if one Org isn't enough to kill the profit.
You will organize fleets, you'll just have to learn humility against bigger fish than you, no toppling the UEE.
You will blockade or pirates, but for that you need the devs to make it profitable, and give a you Pirate Havens.

Dads are like little child on the matter, they want their cake but not to pay for it.

I am not that good at programming, but this is one of my eventual goals. To have a game where, yes, you might be given orders to go investigate stuff, but also where you'd have latitude as Captain to go and do stuff exactly like that.

Some of that would be easy enough. I've also considered the player being able to select other careers on the ship, so you're not just playing as the Captain, but maybe you're the Engineer, or the Scientist, or the Janitor/Chef?

But I'd want to include conversations and stuff, that would absolutely kill any forward momentum I had.

The old Bethesda quests used to be great. "Here's a letter you found. You read it and it talks about a bunch of stuff. To find out more you have to go to the town mentioned in the letter and ask about the person who sent it. Then find where she moved to, etc..."

>>
>>163828582
Mmm. I actually have to try that again now with the new cpu. Previously, it'd be fine, fine fine, and then graphical slowdown for a few seconds for no reason. The slowdowns came much more frequently in combat, so you'd end up losing fights because you couldn't get commands to register when that happened.

Otherwise, it was a beautiful game.

Skyrim had a little, with the treasure maps. "Look for this."

The ALPHA DEMO is only cheaply scripted because they have a limited timetable to show everything.
> the fact it was solo was also a pretty bad sign
The first Demo with a planet had two players and more appearing later
https://youtu.be/3l-epO6oUHE?t=1004

>You will never explore an ancient temple with archeologists attempting to decipher an alien language when you suddenly get attacked by temple guards
either :
You are hired to bring archeologist some places, that place is vast enough that there always a possibility between : nothing happening, beast attack, guard temples, virus outbreak...etc
or
event triggered when you (untrained tomb raider) poke around and anger the temple guards the archeologists had befriended
or
Npc quest triggered by talking to one or being around without a "YES/NO" choice.

>You will never investigate what happened to a facility and have one of your scientists become the Thing and start trying to kill you off one by one
Quest triggered by getting into said ancient facility and the scientist-npc you hired touch the macguffin, because that's a normal game mechanic.

>You will never discover a new rare resource and try to harvest it while being attacked by native aliens
Easiest of all, land on a planet full of said natives, discover the native are protective of their shiny rock

>You will never lead a month long expedition to discover all the secrets of a planet
So many way to do it, it transcend free-roaming. The only trick is to hide the anti-frustration features.
ex : a science team want a ship, they only accept to ride with you if you have the fuel and equipment. You can have as many friend with you as you wish, pay condition define how long you stay.

Its fucking bullshit is what it is. Exploration was supposed to be one of three "paths" since the very beginning.

We have virtually no info on how the mechanics of it are gonna work. But they keep producing more and more exploration ships.

Meanwhile, we're fleshing out the fps mechanics and adding in shit like mining and salvage. Fuck, they even are gonna have fucking farming before we find out if the exploration is gonna be shit or not. Jesus fuck christ, Chris. Get you ever lovin' money grubbin' human skeleton bangin' ass together already.
>>
>>163831648

>3.0 stopping at 3.3
Fairly confident that they will unroll those ships with more minor updates for individual .1 updates to spread them out. It doesn't make sense to have a huge patch every 4 - 6 months since people would probably stay more interested with slightly smaller updates every 2 or so months. It'll also make PTU and Evocati testing much easier since their efforts can be concentrated on smaller testbeds.

>>163831648
They released the Starfarer without refueling working, the caterpillar without pirating or cargo, the Herald without data shit...
From a buyers standpoint, it's nice to at least be able to have your ship available, rather than not have it, and still have to wait on the mechanics for it, which will undoubtably take longer than the ships themselves. I'd love to have my merchantmen, even if cargo was still 2 or 3 months away because I would just like to finally have it in my hands.
>>
>>163832346
Mining can be done on any available rock. Slavaging can be done on any avilable ship that's RIP. Those are careers that require elements that already exist. Exploration would require vast amounts of space, which we should be getting when we have multiple star systems, hence why science and discovery is being held out until we have those multiple star systems.

Much can change from now to 4.0, which could be a year and a half away, and I'm willing to be that farming won't come sooner than other things, but at the end of the day other careers are more available to create. When it comes to the economy simulation with trading of raw materials and such, it makes sense to do them first since you only need a star system with shit to do in it.

what does that have to do with what he said. He's right. Salvaging, Mining, and even trading could feasibly be done with the setting we have now. Saitek x52s are either good or bad, nothing in the middle. Some people swear by them, other people will tell you they're complete garbage and show you their stuck buttons and frayed/torn cables inside their stick.

And I believe the X52 was supposed to be the last decent stick before they were bought out by madcatz. If yours is that old, you may have gotten one that was pre-garbage company standards.
>>
>>163841148
>Are we talking about the same saitek x52? I have the pro version, it has been working perfectly for the better part of a decade now, I think.

Saitek was actually fairly decent when you got a good one. MadCatz took over production and drove the entire company into the ground.

So if its an old old one then you're probably okay. But if its a newer one (and I'm talking years) then its complete trash and completely unsupported. Can't even RMA it.

Low time to kill would work with more tactical equipment and abilities available and a limit on sprinting to slow things down. As it stands people are thinking more about how it works in an arena than how it will work in the Persistent Universe. They will learn to respect the higher TTK when they're sitting around trying to defend a station as a contractor and a hostile ship lands.

Unless someone is right in your face and landing every single shot you can outheal someone shooting you.

The biggest problem with SM is TTK, which would be very hard to balance in a meaningful context for the PU. >It’s reasonable to imagine that Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts’ grand vision of an all-encompassing multiplayer virtual universe may never be truly completed. With over $130 million in crowdfunding cash, and more rolling in by the day, Roberts and his team have more resources than virtually any other game creator to fulfill their grand vision of interstellar travel, spaceship combat, first-person shooting, and probably five more game genres. The developer has been continually releasing alpha versions allowing fans (some of whom have paid thousands of dollars to “own” virtual ships) to knock around with what it’s done so far, but when will the full game actually be released? Heck if we know.
I love this fact-based, substantive journalism. No conjecture or speculation here.

I think you shot that guy 15 times at point blank range and then he killed you with 3-4 bullets. If not an aimbot user it just demonstrates how utterly garbage their netcode and balance is.

The good news is that this is less than a week old and they haven't balanced it yet.

The bad news is that they will likely stick to long TTK as training wheels for dads, and aimbots will become more popular.

I'm giving you anecdotal evidence based on experience. You can also rent a SC aimbot right now. Do a search now and see.

You should also be aware that there is literally no anti-cheat measures in place. No VAC, no punkbuster, no fairfight, etc. What is the game running on? A broken Cryengine.

It's an alpha, they haven't even finished half of the game's content, there's no way they have any way to stop cheaters.

Is SC utilizing Hyper Threading to any regard?

I know Hyper Threading is mostly useful for programs where a lot of jobs get's queued up where the threads is in a way a taxi between the queue and the CPU cores, and almost no games needs this because of the way the program always has to change the queue after what choices you make in the game.

But I'm sure I read somewhere that Star Citizen actually used HT for some shit that increased the performance quite a bit.

I agree

which is why I wish to destroy one. I want to be a big-game hunter of SC, if that's the correct term. Smaller vanduul capitals have a target on their heads, especially that Void bomber. That's the first one I want to destroy. I hope the vanduul have a proper corvette and a frigate, because those would be good stepping stones.

I'd also like to kill Polarii, and possibly an Idris or 2. The Hunter is my ultimate goal though. I'd need to see how the vanduul act in the PU to determine if attacking anything larger is feasible, which it probably won't be.

seriously though, I revise my earlier position that grenades only need to be more obvious to friendlies, I don't think there's even friendly fire yet. I've had idiots stand right on my grenades and be just fine. but the way enemies blend into the background there's no way you can see them throwing a grenade half the time, so unless you book it the fuck away from every kill you're likely to die from a stupid mutually assured destruction by grenades thrown before the fight started. either shorten the fuse or make them more obvious.

Insurance is wait 5 mins for your ship or pay a bit of aUEC (in-game money that has no real world value).

what happens when you kill other players is you get a criminal rating and your spawn becomes GrimHex, the edgy pirate base, instead of Olisar, the pristine lawful station. you get up to five stars like in GTA, and when you have all five you get a public bounty on your head; any player who kills you gets paid. also you have an indicator over your head. you can try to rejoin the lawful faction by breaking into Kareah security and deleting your rap sheet, but it takes time and there is also lawfag missions for defending it, so basically you have to pvp your way out of what pvp got you into.

it could be more obvious desu. if they tightened it in so there wasn't 30 blips at any given time the information that's actually useful ie your immediate surroundings wouldn't be lost in a sea of noise. it should be able to give you a layout of the room you're in from your peripheral vision rather than having to continually glance down at it to parse the spiderweb of lines and dots.

you might be retarded. a smaller diameter would absolutely be less information and would only tell you about your immediate surroundings. it would cut away the useless information of where vaguely the enemies on the other side of the map are, and be cleaner and thus easier to read without having to look at it for a second to decipher all the garbage that's not relevant to your current situation.

$12? I guess that's okay. It's the shortest game I think I've ever played, though.

>>163872879
Obviously we shouldn't balance the radar by intentionally making it messy and hard to read. My point it's already too powerful in its messy and hard to read state so why buff it even more by making it even easier to read. Personally I'm an advocate for removing it entirely since it allows players to get by without being fully aware of their surroundings, but I guess if they use your suggestions of limiting radar detection to just gunfire then it might work out okay.

I'd really rather player awareness to come from sound cues with directional audio of footsteps and gunfire but of course that wouldn't work in a vacuum if CIG plans on keeping the awesome current sound design.

Is there a "do it all" setup for a Hornet right now? I have the flashfire with a M6A and M5A on the other 3 points. It does ok, but I can't keep up the power or cooling to take out a Cutlass or Vanguard without stopping a couple times to cool.

With a Renevant in the s4 and GT870mk3 on the S3 spots, I can fucking shred a Cutlass, but I can only do it two or three times, tops. Then I'm out of bullets, which is ok in AC, but not feasible for the PU.

Well, I've been playing Star Citizen 4-6 hours a day now since Sunday, and starting to get a feel for things. I backed at the base level during the kickstarter and later upgraded to the 325A.

It's still buggy as fuck, which isn't really a big surprise. The most bugs, and most frustrating bugs, are in the PU which also makes sense. Interacting with the world is probably the most frustrating part of the game right now. Opening doors, getting into cockpits, accessing station terminals, etc is kind of all over the place. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes you can't get it to work at all, and sometimes it glitches out in another way entirely.

Star Marine is doing a good job of demonstrating the framework for the FPS mechanic, and I'm pretty satisfied with it so far. The netcode, hit detection, and balance all need work but overall it's pretty fun and satisfying.

Arena Commander is the best functioning part of the game right now, and besides that just the most fun. Ship-to-ship combat isn't perfect yet and lots of little refinements should come down the road to improve it, but for the most part it's a good time and I actually really like the flight model.

As for the 325A itself, it seems like it's a little less buggy than some of the other ships. The worst thing about it right now is just the overall design. Fortunately, it's scheduled for a rework so I'll be keeping an eye on that.

I'm probably going to get a couple of buddies on to try some cooperative play, then shelve the game again until the next major update.

Smart thing to do. Smart thing to do really for both these games if you still play ED.

Running out of ammo for ballistics after a few kills makes perfect sense to me. Having to resupply ammo, either at a space station / space port or on a carrier is an important consideration in equipment choice and things should be balanced to reflect this.

>I actually really like the flight model.

I'm extremely torn about it right now.

Maybe its just that I'm flying a single ship but I feel like we're more atmospheric fighters than ever before, rather than spacecraft.

Main engine centric doesn't even cover it when you can rocket from 165 to 800+, and can slide across the entire "map" before your mav thrusters manage to stop you. Entirely different than 2.5 and previously.

It's the only way to not get bitter about projects like SC. Play for a while, check out how the game feels and all the new content, then shelve it until the next big update. I've been doing that with Starsector (a 2D indie spaceship fights game) for years now, this is just the first time a big update has come out for SC since I got hardware capable of running it.

>>163874640

I never played before 2.6, so I can't compare to the previous flight model. Maneuvering thrusters work perfectly well at "standard" speeds, but you pretty much have to flip around and use your main engine for braking if you don't want to smash into something. Just the way it should be, imho. I also like how strafey all the ships are in general, I can get into a dogfight spinning, strafing, shooting, and flying in all different directions at once which feels right for a space game.

In terms of universe and design, I'm getting lots of Freelancer (2003) vibes from just about everything. Which of course makes sense, because it's Chris Roberts and I was sold it being "basically Freelancer Discovery 2". I backed like October 2012 and they had 2-3m I think by then. The game completely ballooned from there, but I'm not complaining. Just waiting.
>>
>>163875228
But why did it have to be this way.
I even liked the aesthetic.
>>
>>163875526
Aesthetic is sadly all it has. For a while. Then you wonder why you're staring at the same shit for hours, getting jewed out of money for "expansions" that should've been in the base game as normal features, no fixing of the features you already have... I can't bother myself explaining everything wrong with this anymore.

>>
>>163875378

I should clarify, you need to brake with your main engine if you're at afterburner speeds, which can only be reached by using your afterburner. I think that's a good mechanic.

Using the 325A I can pretty consistently place top 25% in AC matches by choosing my targets and knowing when to disengage. If a Sabre or a Super Hornet gets a hardon for me though, there isn't much I can do unless they are a shitty pilot or I can force them to disengage somehow. Pretty much the way I imagined the 325 to be balanced.

I'm not very good at actually getting my missiles to connect with their target yet, but I think I just haven't figured out the right launch conditions. When they do hit, the effect is pretty satisfying.

>>163877847

Sounds about right. Considering Destiny cost $140M to develop, $200M is entirely reasonable for a game like what Star Citizen is trying to be.

It's grown so far beyond the scope of what I was expecting when I originally bought in, it's kind of baffling. I paid $35 for Freelancer 2. When the game ballooned to its current goals, and the developers were actually active with updates and information and such, I decided to support the project and upgraded to the 325A.

So I'm $65 in to a game that currently is

- A decent space dogfighting game that's a little lean on content.
- A buggy but decent FPS that's very lean on content.
- An alpha PU that basically just demos some mechanics.

If they can give me a decent Squadron 42 I'll have my moneys worth. If the PU actually comes together in the way I hope it will, I'll throw the devs some more cash and get myself a Carrack or something before it goes gold.

So, I just got back into the game after checking out for a couple years. I was on the website and noticed this buy back page that lets me buy-back my original pledge tier.

Does that mean I can get money from someone (ie sell it to them), buck store credit, buy the poriginal package, and then gift it to them? Giving them all the original backer shit?

If that's the case, anyone want a Bounty Hunter Package - LTI (its the 300i, I have the 315p upgrade available too if that interests anyone)?

Nope, $140M was the development cost of Destiny.

They spent an ADDITIONAL $360M on marketing for it.

GTA V cost $137M to develop and they spent $128M marketing it.

SWTOR cost $200M to develop and they spent $11M on marketing.

So, without having any idea what CIGs bank account looks like I think SC is doing ok.
>>
>>163878846
>>163879129

The great thing about SC is that we don't have to advertise. The stigma that comes with being the largest (and still growing) crowdfunded project has given us plenty of people. Something like 1.7M people have bought into the project. With major youtubers reviewing the game as it progresses, it's free advertisement. Levelcap might be a Battlefield hack, but he certainly helps spread the word of SC. The proof of the games creation and ambition will speak for itself. All of that money can go back into creating the game rather than annoying ads on youtube.

that said, it's not like we know what happens during development of other games, like what happened with illfonic, they could've thrown out a lot of other stuff
>>
>>163879421

Yeah, that was kind of my point. CIG doesn't need to do any marketing for SC because it gets all the publicity it needs on its own. CIG is obviously spending at least some money on the community outreach stuff, but it keeps the retards in the community talking in circles about meaningless shit and buying more ships, which in turn brings more publicity on its own. It's still nothing like what an actual marketing campaign costs.

Now that this game is going to be the flagship of Lumberyard, I would also expect Amazon to help with marketing once the "full" game is actually released because it's good publicity for the engine.

Game mechanics like reviving and healing would be perfect for Star Citizen. They just need to copy Battlefield 4 (faster sprinting than BF3). It's really that simple.

You'd think so far in the future they'd have little nanite injectors and bio-electrical stimulators and awesome gadgets even cooler than those in Battlefield 2142. Personal cloaking fields, sensor scramblers, auto-turrets, personal aerial recon drones, inter-com link networking, etc.

You should be able to run up to dead squad mates and inject them to get them back on their feet and heal them, just like Battlefield gameplay.

Pretending that it's somehow some aged fine wine that's more sophisticated is bullshit, it looks like a F2P game on steam. A bit like Blacklight Retribution desu. Except that F2P game has a better UI.

Star Marine is so generic, I'm just hoping that it's so early bare bones that it will drastically change over the next 2 years. Really really generic. And they didn't even pretend to come up with futuristic weapon designs, they literally copied a current day weapon and made it 10% more tacticool (read: heavier and thicker).

The plan is to have all sorts of gadgets like nanite injectors. The assets were in an earlier build but were non-functional. Personal cloaking fields, however, are right out. They've said there's no cloaking technology, only conventional stealth. Star Marine is a great jumping off point to continue to grow. Good thing that's exactly what it is.

It brings to mind, for me, the intro of Star Craft: Brood War. When you drop off a group of tanks or soldiers and they ask "where's my air support" it's your responsibility to keep them covered. The Caterpillars turrets can do a fairly good job of that, though there are better choices for infantry support. I wouldn't be so fast to make that conclusion. Those set pieces for all of those planets that apparently have large landing zones will take a very long time to make. Not to mention the unique aspects of each landing zone. If we muster up the money, I think CIG should create an entirely new studio who's entire job is just to make assets for the PU. Buildings, props, different space stations etc. A group 40 - 50 people deep for 2 years straight will get so much shit done when dedicated just to a single goal of landing zones and space stations + outposts and shit.

Until proven otherwise, I think it's infeasible for them to create the required assets for all of the landing zones of all the planets.

Here, look at the sizes of things. >>163890070 has it right, it's damn near the same size.
The issue with the Sabre is the massive upper and lower silhouette with a large amount of essential equipment nearly unprotected by armor plates. The Hornet has the same silhouette issue to a lesser degree, as does every fighter in the game, but doesn't have the same armor problem and centralizes vital equipment in a well protected core.

I prefer the Sabre's speed, maneuverability, and hard-hitting battery of four size three weapons, but it's ultimately personal preference.

I think it feels sufficiently operatic, though I hope we get a few tracks that are a little more off the beaten track. Honestly I found parts of EVE's OST had more feeling behind them.

M50s, P52s and to a lesser extent LNs can all function as fighters with very minimal cross sections on all sides. Makes me wonder if that can be a trait with enduring value late into the PU game when you can AFFORD powerful multi-seaters but want to continue carving out a living in small single-seaters. Size will be the only advantage of doing so after all - combat ships with multiple crew should dominate heavy fighter battle when more actually appear that aren't bulkfests.

I'm hoping that small ships have a place in that they are hard to find in big open areas. Small signature and small size would be handy in being able to survive because statistics are on your side.
>>
>>163892452
Ballistics and Neutron Guns can go a long way to making smaller ships viable against their larger, more heavily armed brethren. But that's only how things are now. I imagine an Aurora mounting working distortion cannons with tuned up engines and thrusters will be a goddamn menace.

Yeah, with the cross-section based detection system, sooner or later some kind of Aurora LN compatible stealth module addon is going to happen (or just some optimal generator-shield-thruster arrangement) and ambushes may become a plague. Especially since, if there's one thing that can be praised on LNs in combat, it's their ability to punch above their weight in the opening volleys while their short generator and missiles supplies are full. That shit is made for surprise strikes in dust clouds or asteroid clusters, especially in groups.
>>
>>163892857
I'm hoping that they let gear make all the difference later on, to an extent. It would be nice if you had the best gear in the game that you could make a viable Aurora or Mustang. Not to make them dominant like a Hornet would be with the same gear, but strong enough so they could fulfill their intended roles.

Frontier let the "community" make decisions for the game. The "community" decided that it wanted more grind, more waiting, more tedium, which resulted in shit like traveling eight thousand light years for xx amount of money. Or spending xx amount of hours just to unlock an engineer that colors your lasers pink. Or boring passenger missions in which you transport glorified cargo that gets mad at you if you don't sit at a battle zone perfectly for ten minutes.

And my personal favorite, the "Community" helped ruin a QOL service which would have made combat only ships much more bearable to travel with. Said QOL feature was nerfed so hard it became an anti quality of life feature. If you use it, your life is made more difficult. That was my last straw with that game and Frontier.

>I'm bad at PvP!
Music to my ears.
>>
>>163897073
Well look at it another way; pirates have more reasons to actually goddamn cooperate with one another. They need to detect targets passing in the nebulae/rockfields they are themselves using to hide, so somebody's got to bring a detection craft or Aurora module, they need the ambush Auroras with the hypothetical stealth addon, then they need some bigger thing like a Cutlass or Avenger that can tractor. Maybe there will even be a ship or attachment someday that can collect materials into those standardized boxes, so these tractorless Auroras could each grab on and haul one.

Actually this sounds like cool stuff to do as an introduction to being/interacting with pirates in some earlygame system - a bunch of Auroras fitted differently to approximate various roles, then later into tougher territory you would find this happening with proper specialized ships in play.
>>

I'm not even a big PVPer, but I get the same satisfaction. I especially hope that CIG will make quantum travel a bit more restricted, forcing players to actually have to fly through passages like debris fields, asteroid fields to get to a checkpoint before they can jump again.
>>
>>163897942
Quantum interdiction supposedly isn't something easy to pull off or light on resources either, so I'm hoping pirates will need some sort of dedicated medium to light ship for that role. I don't think solo pirating will be very plausible, more of a coordinated group activity.

>affect pirates with their dedication to commerce

I mentioned something maybe 20 threads back regarding this. TL:DR was that pirates should be able to shut down an area and increase demand/prices for commodities. Which would drive up demand for traders to deliver shit, which would drive up demand for armed escorts.

If this shit can be pulled off naturally, without requiring roleplay and imagination, it will be fucking great. But that's a dream not based on anything factual yet. I wonder if I can somehow ask if something like that will be possible in 10 for the chairman?
>>
>>163898523
That could potentially be neat too, pirating needs to be balanced. I'm doubtful the economy of SC will be that responsive or detailed, though.

I for one sincerely hope real privacy is rewarded and encouraged while dipshit "piracy" that amounts to little more than true griefing (classic example would be high level characters in WoW going to the level 0 areas of the opposite faction) if punished or made prohibitively expensive.

I mean, I know it can never be stopped completely because you are going to do what you are going to do and damn the consequences, which will never be the same but something to help shield people from being prevented from enjoying the game.

You know what other job the Aurora will remain good at into lategame strictly because of its size? Fitting on other ships in large quantities. In terms of space required, Aurora LNs are probably the single most space-efficent combat ships in terms of firepower they add. 3 Aurora buddies are going to make that pad more of a powerful force than 1 hornet.

Although they are more likely to take losses when fighting a ship with the ability blow up 1 Aurora (nearly anything) before going down even if it couldn't win the battle against either 3 Auroras OR a Hornet, from which the Hornet could actually return and conduct repairs during the trip instead of being down a man and a ship from taking fire. So the Auroras would have greater ability to win single battles but the Hornet would be less costly and more sustainable.

For perspective, I plan to be pirate adjacent, providing aux services like scouting and repair/salvage and do some solo/small team exploration on the side. So I certainly want piracy to be alive and well and not unduely curtailed.

Hyperbole aside, there are really only two things that a single cargo ship will deal with. Single strikes by raiding parties or full blockades.

Ships are travelling at quantum speed, so the idea of some furball happening in an AC sized box is silly in the context of full size Crusader.

There are far more dads than pirates, so I expect that the chances of escorted convoys getting through are pretty high. It's the solo clowns who need to watch out.

That's what scrub mentality is.

A game need to be balanced for everybody, it's one thing to make piracy work. It's another things to give it unfair advantage and no downside.
And by downside I mean downside that actually make you want to stop piracy the same way hauling can feel not worth the boredom.

If you want example of power trip just listen at all the anons who expect to be rich and strut in UEE system incognito as if hiding or wiping your record was easy.
