The whole thing is different. Instead of a ship with its own character it's just a fat whale that consists entirely of Retaliator parts with a Sabre cockpit strapped to it.
>inb4 'manufacturer assets should be reused'
Yes, but not to the degree that a ship has no unique parts.

Plus, once people realized that it can't really kill bigger ships due to a lack of meaningful weapons and it can't kill smaller ships because it's slow as fuck and has a giant hitbox they somehow started defending it with "b-but it has long range", apparently without realizing that it will have to fight whatever short-range fighters your target has with it. But then again, that's performance. But also design, somewhat.

desu though, if they made it dual s3 on the top turret, once turrets are fixed I could see it having more viability, and the inlaid gun buff someone mentioned a few threads ago made it sound a bit more threatening.

The thing is, using a gimbaled S4 on the nose mount is stupid because the quad S2s are fixed and there's no S5 that has a projectile speed that allows you to have unified pips. Unless they adjust either some S5 gun or the nose guns to allow that you're kinda fucked. And even then there would only be that single viable loadout.

I don't understand why bring this up. We're talking about space sims, not elder scrolls.
>>
>>163636035

>I dont understand why you would bring up the process of creating large worlds to play on within a discussion about creating large worlds to play on

Anon please. ED and NMS developers were completely incompetent and just used YOU CAN EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE as a way to sucker in idiots.

100-something worlds that are procedurally generated and then touched up by designers and artists is infinitely more manageable than shitting out millions of randomly generated clusterfucks.

Do you guys have some kind of mental retardation that makes you incapable of understanding that game design is a process applicable to many games and not just one specific series?

Neck yourselves.

I have 140 hours into my latest X3:TC run, and cumulatively have around 600. Can anyone give me some advice and tell me if Elite: Dangerous is worth the 20 bucks it's going for on Steam?

I have avoided pretty much all the news about this game, all I know is that it has spaceships in it, and that it supports vr (not that I own such a device)

Some reviews on Steam say it lacks content and the missions suck (kinda like X3), but they also say they've managed to occupy themselves for 800 hours.

Should I not bother with it? If I should, is the DLC worth it and/or necessary, like CiV? Also, it says it can play as an MMO, how's that work?
I'll appreciate any info you guys can give me.
>>
>>163638065
>Avoided all the news

Stop right now. Watch gameplay videos, read steam reviews, especially negative ones that are reasonable.
>>
>>163638065
>>163638228
Oh also, the game is not an MMO. You can go single player mode at the touch of a button. They may as well have removed any player interaction, because what is there is mediocre. The people that have occupied themselves for 800 hours are either people like me who wanted to get a specific ship and it literally took that long to get it, or the autists who can tolerate flying in a straight line for 12 hours a day.

So... when are they seeing fit as a good time to mention their sudden, completely non-officially announced affiliation with amazon's lumberyard engine?

2.6 clearly isnt running on it, and hopefully 3.0 is, with all of amazons near infinite server hosting - but i mean they didnt see fit to mention this to anyone in some kind of video? it's kind of an important game dev topic when you move your project of 3 years over to another compatible engine
>>
>>163638447
They've already announced it you dip. And they've already integrated it. 2.6 is running on it. Why do you think one of the splash screens says in big letters "Lumberyard"?

They probably kept it a secret until it was finished in order to keep people from thinking they're massively jumping the shark and that they were going through some sort of internal meltdown. If they'd announced this switch before it was finished, there likely would have been tons of hysteria within the community and detractors would have gone wild. Either way, the "story" has already been picked up and sensationalized by clickbait sites ("BREAKING: STAR CITIZEN MASSIVE ENGINE CHANGE 4 YEARS IN") so maybe their strategy already backfired.

I'm not saying it was a good thing they kept it a secret and I'm certainly not trying to be a CIG apologist but that's just my thinking behind their logic.

Plus it wasn't even a massive change in the first place.
>>
>>163638447

You do realize they've been trading tech with other CryEngine forks for years right?
>>
>>163639273
i know it's not a massive change but the fact that almost nobody cared about the sudden lumberyard logo on their launcher confused me. i already knew it was a positive thing that will make 3.0 a reality.

I expected alot more rumblings about what it means for the game, and at least some kind of word from chris roberts regarding the transition and what it means for potential MASSIVE network related improvements to the game

it seems like something they'd be eager to showcase and build hype for ahead of time

Not when the media that covers videogames are desperate to make clickbait trash screeching STAR CITIZEN HAS CHANGED ENGINES HAHA LOOK WE TOLD YOU SO.

Gaming media is extremely hostile to SC because it doesn't pay for ads and it's not affiliated with major game publishers. The fact it even exists and might succeed is a threat to the game industry at large.

I speculate like their whole talks about having potential for "1000 player instances" in that special RTV WAS in regards to AWS but at that point maybe they were still finalizing a deal with Amazon or even still in the process of porting over to Lumberyard.

Meh, this is Roberts basically saying that they couldn't figure out how to reasonably turn their version of cryengine into what he wanted within his timeframe but someone else did it for him.

It's not necessarily bad and could ultimately be a good move, but in the end it's starting to look like a bad case of DukeNukem forever syndrome, where they jumped engines every time a new one came out.

After watching

It's pretty evident this is just Arma 3 in space.
Why not save the time and just play Arma?

>Same quests
>Same looting system
>Same wobbly animations in 3rd person
>Same first person animations incl combat gameplay
>Wast areas with nothing
>Waypoint simulator
>Same flying system
>Same driving system
>Same mount system
>Same squad system (possibly)

Unless there's actual a common enemy, a la Reapers from Mass Effect, to keep you occupied there won't be much to do.

Hell, my friends will prob just develop some network based cheat and unlock everything within 1 week after release and then quit. That's how Arma 3 servers die, people hoard stuff after long quests/missions and then quit as there's nothing much to do with it except do some social raiding.

Has Roberts actually commented on the end goal or did he just say "Build your empire!"
>>
>>163648676
You already said it.

>a common enemy

I think the Tev in Squadron 42, the single player campaign, and the Vanduul + Pirates will be the main factions you will contend with. They'll probably add in missions that involve different groups and they'll randomly become the enemies/ Allies as the story dictates.

Also, please note that Star Citizen seems perfect for Star Fox Assault type campaigns.

It's easy enough to make some CG scenes involving some Aliumz/ Monsters attacking a planet, tasking players with gathering resources for the fight because the UEE can't, thhen fighting for some objective.

A simple, repeatable campaign would consist of:

1. Fight in space ship toward planet
2. Fight in ship on planet
3. Maybe some vehicle/train fight
4. On foot battle
5. Repeat in reverse order.

It seems possible that you could have a mission that ends with you inside an open Caterpillar launching rockets at the Space Bug Queen.

>>
>>163651286
Not bitching about Arma but considering how Arma has no goal and is primarily a milsim for military tutors, Star citizen should not follow the same path for gods sake.

Unless there's some BIG threat and goal, don't expect much of the playerbase staying.

it's an MMO buddy. There's going to be procedural missions and pirates and bad dudes to kill forever. Plus world events and player guilds.

Grenades just need to not be black/grey. It doesn't need an indicator, just make them orange or yellow or something so they stand out a bit from the environment.

Also Star Marine needs a "Free FPS" mode like Free Flight in Arena Commander that lets you jump into the level and fuck around...

Yeah, they can be fun but when you evidently have to get out of the cockpit they just get in the way and complicate things.

I spent ~150 on a hotas, it was uncomfortable to use on the desk. So I spent ~250 on a new chair and mounting hardware so I could attach them to the chair at wrist level.
It works great but now when they are attached to the chair I cant skoot the chair far enough forward to use my mouse and keyboard comfortably. So my option are; keep a shit tier game pad in my lap for first person, take the hotas off and on every time I go between ship and first person, or just leave then off and fly with the mouse, which is what I do most of the time.
So now I am considering more hardware so I can attach desk like wing surfaces to the chair and spend more money on another mouse and one of those things in the pic all attached to the god damn hotas chair.
It sucks but I am already in too deep, its only a mater of time until I take the next plunge. So yeah don't do what I did.

Also Lumberyard doesn't really change much with netcode, it just integrates with AWS services better which is great for hosting but not the magic bullet that some retards seem to insist was used.

I guarantee you that when 3.0 comes out, they'll find the few inevitable flaws and shortcomings to rip apart without acknowledging the rest of the patch CIG will have released.

What is there to even go into?

They ran a DIFF on LumberYard, Star Engine, and CryEngine, and integrated the appropriate bits of code into Star Engine from LumberYard.

Worked out any bugs that may have appeared, and ran with it. It probably didn't even take that long, but they don't release every little change as soon as it's done.

You're right though, too many people don't understand that this change doesn't even involve the actual multiplayer network code, just server instancing really.

fyi There's a branded elite dangerous throttle that has one too and also one coming out for star citizen but I haven't tried either one

the joystick part is more immersive I guess but not really necessary. Mouse is fine for aiming and flying in SC but it's nice to have a twist for roll

Yeah, this one triggered me a little.
Do they really expect every weapon rack in the game to be unique? It's a fucking weapon rack for fuck's sake.
>>
>>163668872
I think it's just to illustrate the point that pretty much nothing was made bespoke for the Vanguard. The real points would be the copy-pasted engines, body, fins, cockpit, etc--things that define the individuality of a ship are literally just lifted assets instead of new assets following a "style guide".
>>
>>163669014
perhaps, and it certainly needs some reworking and balancing, seeing as it's not a very good ship to run, but I think getting too fixated on how many parts were used from other ships is a bit silly. The individuality of the ship isn't the parts, it's the sum of the parts, and the Vanguard is a pretty unique ship. You're not going to mistake it's silhouette with that of a Tali, Sabre, or any of the things it has parts from.
>>
>>163669146
It's still ugly as fucking sin
>>
>>163669014
Even the Sabre has a ton of original parts despite being supposedly fast-tracked by using existing assets. Who knows, maybe they'll make some changes to it when implementing the variants. But then again, the only CIG employee who's actually interacting with the community in ship feedback threads is the QA lead. Nobody else seems to care.

Is there an explanation of the new missiles/missile rack system?

Can the gladiator go balls out with a missile load out now?
>>
>>163669282
Single missile requires a hardpoint of the same size, +1 hardpoint size or -1 missile size doubles the amount of missiles.

Also not really, since the wing hardpoints are the same as on a Gladius and the bay hardpoints can't be swapped for other racks.
>>
>>163669282
A pylon mount has a size, It can carry a rack for

>one missiles its own size
>two missiles 1 size lower
>four missiles 2 sizes lower
>eight missiles 3 sizes lower

So the gladiator has 2 Size 6 mounts in the bay, equipped by default with(so far unswappable) a pair of S5 Dual mounts and 4x S3 mounts on the wings with defaults 2xS2 mounts on all four mounts.
However, each of those S3 mounts can also be equipped with 1xS3 or 4xS1 racks instead.

Well that's disappointing.
Good to see they have finally implemented that rack thing though.

Have you used any of the new missiles? Some are 'proximity' so I assume it means they don't have to hit but rather juts get close (like missiles in real life)
>>
>>163669501

Probably never. The new missile hardpoint system doesn't really allow it unless they make an exception from the sizing and the only missile pods so gar (Delta) are technically guns that fire missiles as ammo, except they don't have to accelerate, and replacing guns with those is really not ideal.

Hi guys, thinking about buying Elite dangerous. Is mouse and keyboard or xbox controller ok to start? I don't have a joystick but I'm getting one soon anyways.

>>
>>163670461
It's fast enough on burner, which is how you should always be flying it, it's a bomber not a fighter. If you're getting into to short range turning gunfights as a gladiator you are doing it very very wrong.

I am in favor of some kind of buff to the turret, Imo like the retaliator they should consider giving the turret more hard points rather than upping the size of the hardpoints, 4x s1 would be a turret worth manning. Also I hope they add a turret mounted designator to lock and launch missiles from the wings, that would make carrying a shitload of S1s actually worth it.

Does anyone know why my mouse is going away when I launch SC this morning?

Make rockets into "size .5 or .25 unguided missiles, then let you carry a shitload of them. The Delta already does that, I think it has like 18 per pod. Though actually I think those are classified as guns. That distinction cant last though because unguided missiles with increased payload are going to be a thing.

Saw this guy getting attacked by cultists earlier and wanted to add to the discussion.

I was in Star Marine several times over the last few days in an area with no other players, i.e. heading down some stairs after a 90 degree turn, and have been shot from somewhere through a wall, I looked down and my head on my HUD display was yellow, i.e. I'd been hit with a bullet to the head by an aimbot user.

It's not hard to spot cheaters when they have like 36-8 on the leaderboard every single round. Especially when you use these weapons yourself and your gun bounces everywhere with way too much recoil making it hard to aim and the stupidly long TTK.

Ever shot someone 8 times with a sniper rifle without them dying and then get killed in less than a second by them? I have.

Cryengine is notoriously bad for anti-cheat, and there is literally nothing stopping people from cheating in the alpha. They can't even fix basic animation bugs after 4 years so there's absolutely no way anti-cheat measures are anywhere close on the horizon. I'm surprised AA [Artificial Aiming, basically the biggest aimbot rental site online] doesn't have an aimbot for SC yet but there's probably not enough demand for it at the moment.

Yeah I guess if you had some feature to teleport behind someone. Nothing personnel, kid.

Player teleportation exists in top-tier aimbots.

Telling someone to get good by killing people from behind is kind of silly, since you will never really be able to control this without cheating, or camping. You're not a shitter are you?

>>163679005
>Kill someone with the sniper rifle and its instant
I hit someone around 8 times with my sniper rifle, they didn't even shoot back at me, after the 3rd or 4th hit he just proned and I shot him about 5 more times, then he aimed at me and killed me in less than a second.

Other times using the sniper rifle it took at least 3 shots, and actually I don't remember killing anyone with it. I think I just get assist points.

The weapons, netcode and maps themselves are broken. The game is unplayable if you have any sort of competitive nature about you. But you can just play to laugh at the bugs if you are a chill person, I guess. But this game just frustrates me, my avatar just slides around with lag, and I get severe FPS drops arbitrarily, shot through walls, killed before I can shoot back at people and miss at point blank range with the shotgun, and then there's the shit feature where you can't see the text box to type in while in the spectator view for like 10 seconds after dying, and the stupidly long spawn times.

Basically it's very early WIP and if it doesn't get any better I don't have any hope of it ever being fun.

Worst part is how light years ahead CryEngine is however most of the tech can't be used unless you want your players to sit on 5-10 fps.

Watch any of the 2006-2017 tech show off videos, it has tons of functions that would blow your mind and if you were to woke up in a virtual reality setting, cryengine would be the engine running it.

Unfortunately devs avoid it as it alienates most of the consumers and unless you find a way to optimize the code, nothing can be expected.

The tech demo shown by roberts prob had some monster PC and it dipped to constant 50-60 FPS from 120, most players will prob play on low and have the game they waited for look like absolute shite and demotivate them from playing as without the added visuals the game will look like some bad prototype.

Cutlass comes with 4 Rattler II and 4 Dominator II. I would much rather have 8 Rattler II. The Dominators are too easy to evade at the missile's max range.

Good to see our merge thread survived this long. The comfy we achieved from threads 2 - 45 may be a little out of reach, but I still think the merge was a success for ED leftovers and SC waiting groups. (Space, Rock and love edition was my fav). I'd say seeing this thread survive for this long without significant turmoil like the old SCG we all unanimously hated is a fairly decent gift from 4chan.

Sincerely,
OP from most of the first threads

Anyway, has their been any word on multiple sizes of rocket pods for ships yet? Missiles aren't as bad as they once were, but I feel more in control with rockets and would gladly replace all of the missiles on my Gladius to rockets.

Anyway, just don't take criticism of Star Citizen or CIG as a personal insult, it's something that you enjoy, it's NOT you or part of you. Separate the things you enjoy from yourself. You are allowed to enjoy things that other people don't like or that other people find sub-standard. You will mature as a person and find discussion and interaction with others more enjoyable.

To be honest I think they've made improvements to the PU but may have sacrificed visual fidelity for it. I can't see Star Marine being fun until they fix their netcode in 3.0 or later. Haven't tried Arena Commander yet but I killed some free fly player in the PU last night in an avenger and it took ages, the TTK is way too long. I was using panthers and bulldogs on my sabre. Okay, read slowly if this is difficult for you :

A game engine is built up of several modular parts (game logic, networking, physics, rendering, input, audio, etc.)

Lumberyard is basically CryEngine with networking modules directly implementing AWS & Twitch stuff.

Star Citizen will use AWS but they have their own instance manager, not Lumberyard's Gamelift.

Read those statements until you understand it, I can rephrase in more basic English if you need.

Avenger's shield has 900HP
Body has 1200HP

2 x Badger / 2 x Panther is 880/s

Essentially giving you a 3 second TTK, should you not be a shitter and actually hit things.

But lets say you have to take down his shield completely rather than one of his two faces, and your shots land all over his entire chassis.

That would be a ~7 second TTK.
i.e a "I've killed every single section of this ship (not just the one required to kill the ship) and demolished his shield TTK". Is 7 seconds.

>The bounty system is not in the game.

A player has a bounty put on their head for their actions, players can hunt them down for credits.

Its bounty hunting, autismo.
>>
>>163703250
Picking up a bottle of wine that doesn't do anything is called looting pointless items.

Does Mario Kart have salvaging, since you run over those pickups and drop bananas behind you? I guess that makes Mario Kart just as immersive as Star Citizen.

The jobs board bounty system and reputation systems are not in the game, neither is arbitration, the cutlass blue or handcuffs, nightsticks and holding cells. All of these work together to form the bounty hunting mechanic. They aren't in the game yet. Killing someone with an orange name is not bounty hunting.

Exploration requires the scanning mechanic and jump points which are in the 4.0 patch which at this current progress rate another 2 years away.

>>163703303
No it's not, it's murdering players, or semi-open world PVP (outside armistice zones) at best.

You don't hunt anyone in the PU, you just occasionally encounter them and decide to kill them or not. Both are equally pointless in the PU alpha. There is no BH system in the game yet.
>>
You get credits for salvaging wreckage. You gain weapons for sweeping through wreckage. There's your first BTFO.

Here's a slap in the face with my dick. Players can become wanted. If you kill them, you get credits for killing them. This is called, bounty hunting. You hunt for their bounty. Same exact way ED does it. You see a pirate? You kill them, and your bounty hunter/combat rank goes up. There just isn't rank yet, and of course no mission board. Despite that, their name is transmitted as PUBLIC ENEMY, and it is your job to hunt them down to earn those credits. There's your second BTFO.

Here's your third BTFO. Exploration doesn't need a sensor and honk sound to be exploration. Otherwise the bullshit you have in NMS wouldn't be considered exploration. Otherwise driving around and EXPLORING planets in ED wouldn't be exploring. There's my dick in you rmouth.

So, how does my dick taste, faggot?
>>
>>163703881
Yes you do retard

Someone becomes a high level criminal (through piracy missions / murder) and anyone aligned with system security / stanton gets a mission added to hunt you down, that rewards credits.
>>
>>163703953
>You get credits for salvaging wreckage
Where do the items go? Do you carry them? Where do you store them in your ship when item 2.0 isn't out yet? Are there weapons lying around in wrecks? Can you use them? Do you get to keep them? Do they get stored in your inventory?

No.

>you gain weapons
You mean they put in a reward for completing 1 part of a mission chain?

>players can become wanted
And yet this isn't a bounty system, it's just E:D murdering players outside armistice zones. There is no way to capture players. It's not complete, i.e. it's not in the game yet.

I'm not even bothering with the rest of your shitpost, good luck getting replies from others.

The bounty system requires capturing other players. This requires items which haven't even been discussed recently, i.e. handcuffs and melee weapons, and the cutlass blue, and the arbitration and reputation system.

There is a piece of it in the game, but not as advertised in the kickstarter. The picture you posted mentions features from the kickstarter.

Item 2.0 is not in the game, ergo neither is salvaging. Persistent inventory is not in the game, ergo neither is salvaging. Crafting is not in the game yet, ergo neither is salvaging.

Carrying salvaged items from wrecks requires salvaging.
Crafting uses item parts obtained from salvaging.
The inventory system uses parts obtained from salvaging.

Do you understand? Picking up useless bottles is not salvaging, it's looting pointless items. Being given a mission reward for finding a wreck is not salvaging, it's a mission reward.

3.0 will be kind of fun. A full landscape to fly around and shoot shit in will be nice, on top of a few basic missions to do.

Currently worried about playercount being too low (or AI released with 3.0 not being advanced enough to sort-of fill that gap) and no real organizational abilities of players and NPCs. I want bands of players to form and fight over stupid shit, or fight NPCs doing the same thing.

>mission to hunt down enemies in a valley of sorts

>mission to infiltrate moon base

Just from the possibilities of these 3.0 sounds worth the wait.

>>
Missile cam is really cool. Except when it gets close to the enemy and disappears before impacting the hull, or just spins away in random directions. If they fixed it, it would be one of the best features in the game.
>>
>>163709292
My standards are already low. Landscapes to shoot shit in, and basic missions. I don't expect some star wars tier epic story of deciet and backstabbing, I just want more places to kill things and a higher playercount and/or better AI to interact with.

3.0 is probably 6-ish months away, but for what we could get it's not too bad. 2.6 isn't so bad either. It's certainly a step in the right direction if anything. The basics for core mechanics are at the very least demonstrably working.

why? Look how long it took them for 2.5 and 2.6. 3.0, if released as intended, will have so much shit that it would be impossible for it to release before June, and that's a conservative timeframe. September sounds more their timeframe for something that big to SC.

small patches adding insignificant things like an asteroid base or FPS with basic functionality is nothing compared to all the shit they have talked about that will supposedly be in 3.0. Over the course of months of listening to them describe the additions to SC in that update, I couldn't possibly believe it to come around any sooner than May+.
>>
People working on 3.0 content don't need 2.6 to be finished first, so they've probably made a lot of content in the last 6 months.

But CR keeps saying "soon" when in reality it's several months. We were expecting 2.6 in October, with 3.0 by December. Then he announced 2-3 month gaps between patches. So we've had a 3 month delay with 2.6 and an expected 2-3 months from now for 3.0. And I don't see any reason to expect them to stick with this time frame after repeatedly missing deadlines.

If a lot of their team was working on 2.6, and it came out as broken as it is, I don't see any reason why 3.0 won't be completely broken, and delayed, while they shift everyone working on 3.0 and beyond.

This project is way over-inflated and their engine problems over the years leave me without much optimism. Every time we get hyped for a patch I just discover that it's not so great. Even 2.6 has been broken up without fully containing what we were told it would have.

Disclaimer: I'm goon.

If this game ever comes out with anywhere near the amount of stuff that Roberts has promised (and as much as I don't think I will come out I sure hope it will, the concept is fucking awesome) don't you guys think the collective goon buttmad hivemind would block out the sun with their ships, effectively ruining the game for a large portion of players?

This is a genuine question: what is there in place to stop one large group completely fucking over all others, as the Eve type goons are want to do?

I've no interest in that sort of crap myself, but I've played lots of games where this sort of superclan shit ruins things for the solo players like I'd like to be, so I worry that might be the case in a final release state.

for a goon you don't seem to be very up to date on the news. The entire reason the goons are so salty about star citizen is that their attempts to form a coalition and affect the game in such a way was thwarted by "big benny" Lesnick. 90% of the players in the game will be NPC's no single group will be able to control a large area of space by themselves, but there will be designated shitting area where large factions can try to control a space station, capital ship, etc. etc.

It pisses off everyone to no end but the dads gotta have their safe space and Fdev doesn't have the resources/will to fix it. Why was E:D an MMO again? Why couldn't Fdev just use another type of DRM?
>>
>>163731385
To be honest no one can detail how it will all play out but we do know that game masters with editor tools will be able to call the shots ultimately with directing the NPC population for secured space with military/police. As for non-secured space NPC pirates will always be present. Thats not to say players can't find areas to own but it won't be anywhere near as significant as eve. Player run PMCs are supposedly meant to apply for licences to operate and fight in specific warzones for example. Merchants can get a majority of the market on a particular commodity in an area but NPCs will always be present to compete. If I remember tight all these details qere goven in 10 for the chairman segments.

Who/where was it? I murdered some fag in an FDL about an hour ago that started calling me out a lot like that for repeatedly low waking in realspace and circling him in SC. He got all cocky about getting my shield low (I was flying a FAS with 3000 armor and biweave) and his loadout looked kind of shit and gimballed so eventually I just pulled us both into a ring during one of his interdictions and ended up crushing him against an asteroid.

but no i would not expect it in 3.0. and i'd expect 3.0 either Extremely early or extremely late depending on how well their current dev team can utilize lumberyard verus the highly customized version of cryengine theyre used to

Now that I think about it, has anyone here beside me pledged without even reading the full list of promised content/features?

I played the October free flight and based solely on what I experienced that weekend, and the GamesCon video, I went balls deep.

I just felt with the systems already in place in 2.5 that the game had amazing potential for emergent gameplay.

I pledged $45 back during the kickstarter and knew most of the features back then. Now I've no idea, and I haven't exactly try to look them all up because I feel like it's just never going to happen.

So as long as the few features I expected gets done I'm going to be happy.

Endgame isn't trendy anymore, it refer to vertical progression and powerlevel logic that SC is revered to not aiming for.

You'll have hammer for nail & screwdriver for screw in various size, but using one for the wrong job and size will be an exercise in frustration.

Of course a Mustang will stay a shitty starter ship.

Reddit cannot help, reddit is an unsearchable pile of obfuscated bullshit where anything actually useful get buried under a mountain of uniformed whining, [Concern], armchair devs and memes. Any thread longer than 500 comments starts burying information behind links so that babby doesn't get lost in the giant wall of text.

You know, I know it, I have already looked there, I have searched google, I have searched RSI, this is the only place with an interface clean enough to just CTRL-F and find what I'm after. Someone here, right now, knows what I need to know. Being the person who possesses simple useful information and refuses to share it simply that you can feel important for a few minutes is the autistic thing to do, not getting pissed about said behavior.

Unless they totally fuck it up somehow, it should be pretty well armed. All the concept art shows 4 guns and missiles. If it get two size 3 and two size 2 gun points and handles decent enough, it will be ok. And it won't be a Hornet.

>>163757547
It has to have a good missile loadout. The gun loadout is worthless.

>>
>>163757845
Not only that, but when the Buccaneer concept sale started they talked about a revision to the weapon hardpoint system that basically boils down to "required hardpoint size = weapon size + modifiers", with gimbal and twin link each adding +1.
So the bottom hardpoint could either take a fixed S4, dual fixed S2 or dual gimbaled S2.

>changes engine

They are both the same engine. They just borrowed the parts they didnt see a reason to spend time developing when it's already done by somebody else.

They still use the parts of the cryengine that they have been working on for so long, like the physics grid inside another physics grid which was one of the most crucial parts to make Star Citizen work.

Example:

CryEngine is a very big engine consisting of let's say 100 parts for the case of this example.

CIG has been working on rebuilding 20 parts of it to make the engine work for a game like star citizen. An engine that was only made for simpler games at first.
20 of the remaining parts are networking and managing of other parts which was a 2nd priority to make it work.
They saw that Lumbermill had those parts which the original CryEngine did not. So they used them instead of creating the exact same thing themselves.
The 60 other parts are, let's say standard CryEngine parts.

I DONT KNOW HOW MANY PARTS IS THIS OR THAT, THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.

You could direct sidegrade it into a reliant Kore, which is objectively a worse ship.

But really the 315 is the ideal starter ship. It's not particularly powerful in terms of weapons or shields, but it can carry a little cargo, has a stock jump drive and big fuel tanks for long range.

I don't see any issue with just starting in it as a rookie ship. It's nothing really OP or special on its own, and is IMO the most sensible and useful of the 300 series.

grab a few CCUs between the two hulls, they're free, spend some time flying both of them and keep the one you like.

I'm considering buying a second ship. I already have a game package and ship with LTI from the kickstarter. Here is what I'm looking for.

- Perfectly capable of being effectively utilized by a solo pilot.
- Room for at least one passenger.
- A pilots seat / cockpit that is accessible from the interior of the ship.
- At least a bit of cargo space.
- Enough armament to defend itself against Mustangs / Auroras / etc.

I'll be flying solo about 50% of the time and in a 2-5 person group the other 50% of the time.

What are some of the best options for me? On the low end, I was considering

- Avenger Titan
- Mustang Delta
- Aurora LX / LN
- 325A

Up the scale a bit I was also looking at

- Cutlass Black
- Freelancer MIS / DUR

What's your experience / take on these options?

My endgame "I made it" ship is going to be a Carrack or 890 Jump, but I wholly intend to purchase it in-game with profits made in-game.

It would be ok if :
- They remove the shitty VTOL engine that block its turret
can be salvaged if
- It's very stealthy
- it's fast as hell
I'm not even asking for good shield because this ship isn't meant for endurance battle, only hit and run.

The corridor are space wasting shit as well but if you remake those as well you end up remaking the entire ship.

Freelancer if you want cargo and a little combat, Cutlass if you want combat and a little cargo.

I think they should integrate the VTOL thrusters as regular thrusters into the base of the wings instead of some gimmicky VTOL jet landing bullshit that is pointless in a game with ships that can just as easily take off without them.

It needs turrets that are worth a damn, and a better payload (actual payload pending). Maybe even jobs geared towards just the heavy bomber role, because even if all of that changed, the crew requirement would make 3 - 4 single-man Gladiators still more viable.
>>
>>163731078

I know they are solo ships, but they still have space inside that another person can hitch a ride in from station to station for instance. The cutlass seems like a good choice but it's pretty ugly right now imho. I guess it's scheduled for a rework though?

I'm not too worried about it being flyable right now, this game was a long term investment for me.

>>163773236

I must be thinking of the beta. I was checking out some other peoples ships in the PU and the Mustang I was looking at had a neat little living space. I haven't followed the development much so I'm discovering most of these ships for the first time. This one had an entrance hatch on the bottom that went up inside the ship, with the cockpit in the front and living space to the rear.
>>
>>163774038

Realistically I don't think this is going to happen, just because of the layers and layers of architecture they are using to simulate the universe. I don't know why they would put time and effort into dumbing that down enough for a single server to run it.

>>
>Currently have Super Hornet and Cutlass

I'll stick with this for now because the SH is completely overpowered for AC. Hopefully they will announce some single-seat multi-purpose ships next year that don't suck as much as the Avenger/300 series.
>>
The 325A was pretty much sold as being an ideal upgrade for the solo adventurer.

So why is the Avenger pretty much better in every way on paper?

Better weapons hardpoints. Faster. More maneuverable. More interior space and options.

I can't even change my ship from the 325A to the Avenger Titan because it's a "cheaper" ship.

Will the 300 series rework fix it?
>>
>>163776617

When your character "dies" they wake up in the hospital of the last planet they visited, or on a friendly hospital ship etc.. A character can only die so many times before they are dead forever, and some things will skip any remaining lives and just kill your character.

Once your character is dead you make a new one, and they get all of your old character's stuff.

I expect that they will make it so that when a ship crashes or is killed the default state is disabled/ruined rather than exploded. This way the character inside has a chance to escape and survive, and you aren't using up so many lives.

Dosnt the 300 series have jump drives which the avenger lack.
>>
>>163777120
Having things get disabled instead of destroyed also makes it easier for the salvage occupation to have something to do. There's only so much you can reclaim from a ship that turned into confetti like they do right now.

Pretty sure they can all mount jump drives, so it doesn't really matter much.
>>
>>163777405
They are just afraid that SC will grab all the players which will leave ED empty as DS's wallet.
>>
>>163776921

Holy shit the Avenger is actually faster.

Does anyone know what missile mounts the 325A has right now? The Avenger has 2x S2.

The point on weapon mounts is debatable. Right now the Avenger is in a shitty place because the main gun cannot be changed, and the ammo velocity is too slow to match with any good S2 or S1 wing guns.

I think that the 300 series will have lots of awesome customisation options once all of that is implemented, eg. the twin engines like the 350R or heavier wings to carry bigger guns, etc..

The rework is probably going to be good. Chris Smith is doing it. He has just reworked the F7A (which is now awesome), but he has also just remodelled the F7C and fixed exactly none of the problems with it. 300 remodel will definitely look nice but it's 50/50 on whether it will get a functional interior.

Of course. It is after all an obsolete heavy bomber.
Problem: it can't be the "collection bike" that they advertised. Adored by fan clubs throughout the Galaxy. Simply because it doesn't have the modular interiors as promised.
What people wanted was a recognizable, signature ship. With highly customizable interiors fitted most of the time with comfy shit. That can quickly an bomber with an out of style, yet heavy payload (cluster bombs is among the things I want)
Right now. It can't be either of this
>>
>>163777793

The current state of ships doesn't matter nearly as much to me as what they're going to end up as. Going off the stats on the official store page...

Right now the 325A has 2 x S3 pylons, 2 x S2 fixed mounts, and 1 x S2 gimbal.

The Avenger Stalker on the other hand has 2 x S3 pylons, 2 x S2 fixed mounts, and 1 x S3 gimbal.

So basically, I have a slower ship with a smaller interior and a smaller gimbal weapon.

The EVA hatch doesn't even fucking work, just the two pointlessly large gull wing doors on the sides.

I think he agreed with the statement and was talking more about the Retaliator mentioned in my previous post. Context clues my dude

>>163778030
I simply want it to be an effective bomber, but that's essentially impossible with the design. Too high crew requirement, no decent self defense (not that a heavy bomber will be alone, but you can basically solo it with almost anything), very little space for anything, and the payload currently seems lacking. I'd think that a swarm of S5 missiles from 6 Gladiators would be more versatile and useful than a Retaliator with a pilot and 5 gunners that use pee shooters

and then of course this ship comes along.
>>
>>163778954
>5 gunners that use pee shooters
I'm not sure if that makes the turrets more or less useful.
>>
>>163776518
True, but at least it wont' be gone forever because you vastly underestimated the cost of insurance on a gigantic ass ship.
>>
>>163778954
> a swarm of S5 missiles from 6 Gladiators would be more versatile and useful than a Retaliator with a pilot and 5 gunners that use pee shooters

There is a massive difference between how good a turret gunner has to be compared to how good a pilot has to be.

A Retaliator with one person in it can still perform all its vital functions.

I was explaining that the retaliator turrets are shit, not even mentioning how obstructed the view is for some of them.

>>163779268
Yes, and get raped in the process of doing so. I've killed many Retaliators when they used to fly them all the time by myself, and I have a SH. Putting all of your eggs (crew/bombs) into a single, easy-to-kill basket like the Retaliator is just a bad tactical decision. Of course, it could still have a use if you have 3 retaliators and quite a few fighters to destroy a Javelin as some big mission or something, but for maximum efficiency you're bloating the crew sizes, and in turn the costs, of everything. Gladiators are actually decent fighters as well, so they can defend themselves if attacked, in addition to dedicated fighters, but at the end of the day the versatility is there with them.
>>

I'm the poster of >>163772834 and I don't subscribe to the underpowered and undermanned turret memes.
We know automated turret will be a things and the Talli can focus a up to 3x turret with dualS2 or S3 (last news I heard) against a single opponent, and even 2 would hurt a lot. (4x S2 in your face)

If only the belly turret were blocked by the stupid VTOL. Redundant as you say, I would gladly take 8 more RCS to make up for them

The Polaris don't even have to be a threat, it's "fast" for a capital ship, but it won't match all medium ship the Talli can pursue and it won't fit in smaller jumper gate.
The way it's going you would use a Talli to hunt a Polaris

It's terrible by design
* Massive profile to shoot at

There is no amount of balance that can help this travesty of a vehicle.

I've just rented a Gladiator and holy fucking shit this is the most fun I have had in AC.

The economic stimulation that can go along with organizations working together for a common goal will make me incredibly moist if done with enough freedom to the players.

Just the thought of a Hull D full of material mined and refined by players being sold makes me jittery. Synergy ftw

The only thing I'm skeptical about is how much freedom Croberts will let us have. It'd be nice if the map had Neutral/UEE space and Org-owned space. I'm unsure how the Dads would react to this. They probably prefer to play in their own little game-bubble like in E:D.
>>
>>163786492

I think that setup was awesome, with the rear-facing remote gunner.

It's a cool ship but right now missile selection is broken as fuck and the second person is completely unnecessary. I am also struggling to see what the Gladiator does that the Harbinger doesn't do better.

I would remove the second seat on the Gladiator unless TV-guided missiles are a thing.

That was the original concept, but at some point they apparently decided that a retarded bubble turret would be better.

>I am also struggling to see what the Gladiator does that the Harbinger doesn't do better.
It's not a giant target that loses all of its combat capabilities once one of the engines falls off at least. Plus the missile loadout is more versatile if they let us mess with the hardpoints in the bay.

So when can we realisitcally expect 3.0?

April?
>>
>>163776678
aurora LN, or at the most herald should be the ideal starters for anyone. not sure how much value the avengers will retain but i'm probably always going to have an LN sitting around, and herald will always be valuable somehow.

cutlass should be pretty easy to grab ingame but honestly i'd wait for the rework to melt that. you might be throwing away credits melting it for $100 right now. and honestly if the rework is done for 3.0 it's gonna be just about the ultimate ship for experiencing as much of 3.0 as possible.

If you can't give control of missile to a turret, you will because it will be requested. (remember there's missile-turret on cap ship that won't only be fired forward)

The only reason it would be removed after that is if it's legitimately OP in the hands of players.

>>163786690
It's 90% Npc and myself I wish for "as little freedom as fun".
I'm sick of moron asking for absolute freedom only to wine later because Goon fleet broke the market or because procedurally generated ship and faction don't spontaneously form mission and twist.
>>
>>163788257
if amazon lumberyard, and consequently amazon's infinite server power being integrated into the game, i'd say slap a month of cushion onto whatever estimate you have. 3.0 likely isnt coming out without SQ42 prologue being done either, theyre kinda hand in hand on the level of perfection CR wants out of them.

it could go faster or slower depending on if these people are totally incompetent and can't continue their work speed on lumberyard
>>
I wonder how quickly the PU will progress as SQ42 wraps up and the team moves over. I'm really cynical about CIG at this point, after constant delays, disappointments and fumbling.
>>
>>163788492
Spoken like a true Dad-gamer. I want as much freedom as possible. Play the market, organize fleets and do other shit like that. What do you have against fun?

So let me get this straight.

UEC as shown under "My RSI" is like premium cash currency. The can be spent in Voyager Direct on the website for in-game items that you own permanently.

REC are just "rental credits" used to buy temporary licenses to try things out. You spend them on the website under Electronic Access.

In game, however, the credits earned by doing missions in the PTU are what exactly? REC?

The money spent at stores in Port Olisar on things like sidearms and space suits are what?

I also see references to aUEC.

What the fuck CIG? Can't we just have "premium money" that we can keep / spend on permanent items and "fake in game money" that gets wiped when PU comes out of alpha?
>>
>>163788930
Please lower the number of currencies CIG
>>
>>163788930
No, retard.

UEC = Finalized Currency that'll be in Beta and Live. You can buy ingame currency later on with real money.
aUEC = Alpha UEC. As the name implies, currency during Alpha
REC = Rental Credits. Currency for playing Arena Commander (Vanduul Swarm, Pirate Swarm etc). Can be used to rent out guns, ships, etc.
>>
>>163788930
>In game, however, the credits earned by doing missions in the PTU are what exactly? REC?

aUEC is what you earn - Alpha UEC.

Its to prevent the fucked up state of the PU from bleeding into a currency tied to actual dollars. aUEC and earning it is meaningless - as it should be.

Correct.

>REC are just "rental credits" used to buy temporary licenses to try things out. You spend them on the website under Electronic Access.

Correct.

>In game, however, the credits earned by doing missions in the PTU are what exactly? REC?

In the PTU the currency you earn is aUEC, Alpha UEC.

>The money spent at stores in Port Olisar on things like sidearms and space suits are what?

All money spent in the PTU is aUEC.

>I also see references to aUEC.

Alpha UEC is intended to be the same as UEC, except everything is non-final. aUEC and all items bought with aUEC are wiped with every patch.

aUEC cannot currently be used to buy items on the RSI shop, but that will be coming with Dumper's Depot and Astro Armada.
>>
>>163788930
stuff you earn in the PU is a[lpha]UEC. it gets wiped every patch.
>>
>>163788930
There are three currencies. UEC can effectively be ignored. It's going to be the main shit you use in game once it launches. REC are used solely for Arena Commander. That's supposed to be still in the game when it launches. aUEC is alpha UEC, meant for purchasing stuff right now in Olisar.
>>
>>163789161
>>163789187

Ok, so I can't fuck up and spend my actual UEC in any way except on Voyager Direct.

Any money I make or spend in the PU will be aUEC.

REC is made in AC and spent on EA. Items purchased with REC are only available in AC.

If I got that right, thanks guys.

Next question, should I dump the front gimbal on my 325A and put an S3 weapon there, or stick with a gimbal'd S2? Also, what would be some good S2 weapons to replace the stock wingtip lasers with? I want something with a bit higher ROF.

Depends on if you like stick or mouse control. If you like stick then the fixed is for you, if you like mouse then gimbal is more easily your thing. Personally, I'm weird, I use fixed weapons with mouse control. Not everyone's cup of tea.
