DAO had templars vs mages, dwarf politics/societal issues, human politics (in and out of Ferelden), slavery, elfshit, and more I'm probably forgetting. DAI has its own shit, sure, but not on the level that DAO does, because DAI forces you to be the hero a bit too much. Off the top of my head, something like letting the Inquisitor do with Clarel and the wardens what Branka did with the golems could have added some interesting story shit, but nah, you let one guy die and save everyone because it was Corypheus' evil plot corrupting them all along.

I will admit I forgot that Solas and Cole (and Viv) were interesting because it's been ages since I played, so I'll give you that one as DAI simply has more interesting characters. IMO Wynne, Zev, and Morrigan are all solid, with Alistair being the weakest of the DAO companions.

Not that anon, but I loved the bigger scope of Inquisition more than Origins'. I think that DA:O is the game that forces you to be the hero too much, while the Inquisitor becomes Inquisitor out of necessity (they are the only one who can close Rifts and use this power to influence politics and gain allies).

In DA:I you are the true, effective leader of an organization and as such deciding who is going to be the new ruler of Orlais, fixing the Wardens' bullshit, and inevitably stumbling upon important knowledge and lore makes sense. The Warden becomes a hero out of luck, because if there had been other Wardens in Ferelden apart from him/her and Alistair, he/she wouldn't have been important at all.

And this is DA:I, not DA:O. DA:O was only focused on Ferelden, except for minor stuff about distant Orlais and vague mentions about Tevinter. The rest is heavily present in Inquisition too, much more than Origins in my opinion.

In DA:I, you learn the triple of what we ever learned in Origins and DA2, thanks also to unbiased truths that cannot be denied, while in Origins and DA2 you had to trust people blindly and believe everything they said and showed you (e.g. the Quickening of the elves, the Stone being the only deity the dwarves ever worshipped, the Wardens being a pure, efficient organization).

Origins is a wonderful game and I had a lot of fun playing it, it has a different, "raw" charm, but I enjoyed the feeling of Inquisition more when I played it.

While I agree with most of your points, you have to acknowledge that the actual gameplay/exploration of DA:I do not complement its narrative at all. In DA:O, you often get a dumb objective that has nothing to do with the blight (parley with furfags! rescue the queen! etc), but you actually have to work towards it so in the end, the resolution feels more fulfilling. In contrast, while the main quests in DA:I deal directly with Corypheus, they are short and linear as fuck and have nothing to do with 80% of the game's content which consists of doing inane filler missions like looking for shards in the pissing wastes.

I said it worked completely fine with the mod, which is nice. It's not a bad romance, exactly, just not entirely to my tastes. I'm finding the difference between how he acts in generals vs how he acts in romance scenes to be a little weird, and how his VA half-whispers all his romance lines so he sounds like someone who would phone you at 3am to breathe heavily down the handset is...offputting. Why do people think that the Solas' romance is abusive? The guy never forces you into romance, Lavellan is the one who actually has to insist and break his barriers.

He even warns her that things might get ugly in the end, but once he realizes he's truly in love with her he cannot let her go and always treats her with kindness. Sure, he cannot relate much to the other races, not even elves, and he is grumpy and tactless sometimes, but it's clear he loves Lavellan and cares for her a lot, so much he almost gives up to his plans and nearly tell her the truth and stay with her.

Basically, every romance in the game has its problems:

Cullen has a dangerous addiction and must be supported throughout his recovery
Blackwall betrays your trust and you have to forgive him
Josephine (the actual Disney-like romance) makes you deal with her family problems and suitors
Bull can betray you in Trespasser if you don't understand how important the Chargers are to him
Dorian is very insecure and scared and thinks you only want a one-night stand
Cassandra yearns for womanly things and a romantic lovestory, but feels like she isn't supposed to have them because she's "too rough and brash"

Solas' romance is the deepest and most heartwrenching among these, but it also contains the same sweetness and love. Hell, the guy takes Lavellan to a humid glade after a trip to Crestwood to tell her how much he loves her and the first thing he's able to say to start the Super Important Reveal is "the Veil is thin here". He's dorky as fuck.

I don't remember much about dwarven society or slavery in DAI, barring DLC. And even though there's a tonne of elfshit infodumping, we don't really get to experience it outside of some brief interactions with that one Dalish group in The Exalted Plains. DAO was better at showing, while DAI was mostly telling - which is fine to an extent, because the Inquisitor doesn't have the freedom to sightsee and negotiate like the Warden did, but it still weakens the story imo.

Also regarding the choice of Orlais' ruler, I feel like even that could have been done better. In DAO you can pick between a guy you've been traveling with for months and can potentially influence, or a woman who you actually get to chat with for a while and deal with. You barely get to know Gaspard/Briala/Celene in DAI and even though they try to shove a bunch of story in the Winter palace, it doesn't really feel like an informed decision any way,

Overall, at the risk of echoing some reviewers, DAI feels like it cast its net too widely and as a result the experience is shallower than it might otherwise have been. I still enjoy the fuck out of it, and its gameplay was based, but personally DAO just felt deeper.

The qunari want to stop Fen'Harel and they're also at war with Tevinter, it makes sense for Solas to get involved in their conflict. He doesn't like being straightforward like that though so you'd likely get a totally legitimate and trustworthy companion who's totally not an agent of Fen'Harel.

Does anyone get this weird 'isolating' feeling while playing DA: I? When I am in Haven/Skyhold, talking with the characters or doing the main-quests I feel fine and immersed. I feel like I'm playing a Dragon Age game.

But when I am exploring Hinterlands, Storm Coast, etc, sealing Rifts, gathering herbs/stones, killing random enemies, I feel like I'm playing a complete different game. All this filler activities makes me feel isolated from the Dragon Age universe. Your travel teammates also rarely talk.

I don't remember experiencing this in the previous games of the series. Everything felt part of the same world no matter what I was doing.

To be frank, Triss is the more generic love interest of these two simply because she is more stereotypically female in her role. Additionally, CDPR had to make her a viable choice so she is pretty significantly different from her book version. Suffice to say that she was designed to be more of a fawning maiden.

Yen is more strident and assertive in part because that's her personality but also because she knows Geralt expects her to be like that and it complements him (sort of a Yin/Yang). The key thing is that Geralt and Yen have a long, complicated history which is apparent in how they speak to and behave around each other. If you didn't read the books you may not notice or care but if you did then it just underscores the depth and strength of their bond.

So the Warden leader searching for something on the Storm Coast is Hero of Feralden, right? The notes mentioned him being an elf, and I had entered Elf as HoF's class in the Dragon Age Keep.

I don't really have a problem with Triss's femininity and relative naïveté, it's just that she's inconsistent as hell.
>Philippa's lapdog in the books, really insecure and frequently makes poor judgements
>Trissifer Eilhart of Vengerbor in the first game
>sort of returns to her book personality in the second game (gets into trouble because her obsession with Geralt interferes with her devotion to the lodge)
>all the development gets thrown out of the window in the third game, suddenly develops top tier leadership skills, starts fighting for mage freedom and can no longer do anything wrong because of her waifu status
