Went to sleep last night, opened this back up and after fixing some weird bugs like walking sideways constantly or having the hotkey bar open, I'm finally playing.

But how the hell do I pick this lock? The pin keeps falling back down and I skipped the tip like an idiot thinking it'd be easy.

Move the mouse up to push the tumbler into position with the pick.
When it reaches the top, click the mouse and lock the tumbler in place. You have to time it depending on the speed of the tumbler movement.
If there are more tumblers, move the pick to the side and under another tumbler, and press it up again and try to lock it at the top. Fuck up and previous tumblers might fall back down.

Scavenge it. Hire a bodyguard or two to follow you around the more scary parts of Skyrim so you can look for valuable stuff to sell in town. If you get into trouble, hide and let your people take care of it. If they die, run away. Good: There is no longer a perverse incentive in the skill leveling system to work on certain skills ahead of others to max out your stat gains, unfortunately to achieve this they completely removed the stat line (beyond health/magicka/stamina) which completely fucks the idea of having certain skills create synergies with one another beyond the obvious mages are good at magican fighters are good at fightan.

Morrowind -> Oblivion -> Skyrim

Bad: Increasing reliance on quest markers is a bad trend and hurts the exploration based game play that they're ostensibly centering the games on. Given it's an overall trend in modern gaming we'll never go back to not having them at all, but I wish we could at least step back from the abyss that Skyrim reached where many quests are basically impossible to complete with the markers turned off because they didn't even bother to write descriptions.

Morrowind -> Oblvion/Skyrim

The continual reduction in the number of equipment slots is a shitty trend. I know that it's partly a systems thing and helps with the number of actors on screen, but other games can handle more varied equipment systems without bugging out so Bethesda should be able to solve while letting us mix and match and preferably layer.

Morrowind/Oblivion -> Skyrim

Morrowind still has the best version of spellmaking and enchanting, with Skyrim having completely removed spellmaking altogether. Sure you need to make the ready made spells usable for people who don't want to get into the nitty gritty of it but that's not a good reason to completely remove the deeper systems. I do like how spells interact with Skyrim's dual wielding system though, and would like to see that fleshed out in a new game.

Daggerfall -> everything else

Daedra summoning was kind of neat, it would be nice to have some stuff that you can only initiate on the correct day/time like that.

Morrowind > Oblivion/Skyrim

More importantly: Faction exclusivity and conflict. IIRC Oblivion had basically none. Skyrim's only conflict is the Imperial/Stormcloak one.

Morrowind on the other hand was filled with it. You only got to be in one of three Great Houses, requiring three play-throughs to see all GH related content. Unless you were clever and did things right you couldn't be part of both the Fighter's Guild and Thieves' Guild past a certain point due to the TG's rivals having their claws in the FG, etc.

It went a long way towards immersion having to be GOOD at being a thief or mage AND being barred from certain shit due to certain things you did or friends you made.

On this, Morrowind had paths going to just about everywhere. You could follow directions given in the quests because the world was connected to itself.
I've been trying to do so in skyrim, but most places that aren't towns simply don't have a path to them. You've forced to cut through the fields and bogs in order to reach quest locations, and so even with mods to add quest descriptions you're forced to either wander until you happen to stumble on the location or have the quest marker on the minimap.

For some parts this is fine. Fort blueblood for the Leyawiin recommendation is specifically an old abandened fortress in the middle of fucking nowhere that people aren't really sure where it is.
But the Lunar Forge at Silen Moons camp has no path. Ignoring the fact they didn't implement the forges like they wanted to, there's no path at all. It's in the middle of nowhere basically. Even Dustman's Cairn for the Companions quest has its own path and it's not even a dash away from the main path.

I just want fucking paths back.

Stop caring about the main quest. Make the world a world and not a showcase or themepark.
Remove doors that can only be opened with a key. It's retarded, lockpicking exists for exactly that reason.
Add back all the shit they keep removing. With this, I can have skills like "daedric" or "impish", which leads to the next two points.
Improve skills so they matter more than just how much damage is done/taken or how much you charge/pay or items.
Skills that don't become completely useless when you reach later levels. Maybe like a daedra tree where low level can convince scamps you're just a weird looking scamp and intimidate Dremora that you're worthy of their respect because you're totally a demigod.
Add more unique items that aren't enchanted. Collectibles that may or may not serve any purpose but you can hoard them. Like a necklace from their grandmother or a book from their tutor. "What if guards had lives" is a good example of basically what it would be like.
Make difficulty more than just damage taken/dealt. It affects how much gold you find, how much you harvest from a plant, how many enemies spawn in a spawn point, but don't change world stuff like actual rewards earned or available quests or available items. No "secret ending" shit either, at least not determined by difficulty setting.
Open dungeon space. It feels claustrophobic. Even dwemer ruins are pretty closed, mostly.
Fuck graphics. Fuck it. I don't care how many triangles you have or what resolution textures are. Doesn't matter if it looks real or gritty or natural. I don't have an alternative to this, but god I hate when people complain about bad graphics and they think "oh it's low rez therefore it has bad graphics". That's not what it fucking means. Go watch a movie if you want those kind of visuals. Stop killing gameplay because you want 8k textures on everything and billion pores on a face but anything less that that means the entire game is shit. If they want graphics, mod it. Fuck you.

How do you all decide what hair to give your waifu? I've only ever played male characters so the difference between 1 usable hair vs 500 is staggering.

So if zombies and skeletons are just lil wind up toys made from corpses then it ain't no thing, but if you pull the body's owner back from the aether and stick it in a decaying body then we have a problem.

Enchanted items don't require Black souls, which is the issue in most cultures. They're powered by white, or monster/animal souls, and that's totally A-OK with everyone.

Literally everything aside from man and mer can be sould trapped in a white gem, and all enchantments are made with white gems.
