Is there a Warband mod that lets me start in the nation of my choosing with a castle, village, and say 25 knights and already serving the king?

I know it's supposed to be about the journey and maybe founding your own kingdom or helping an aspirant or marrying in, but I've been through the early-game tedium too many times now and just want to jump straight in on a new character with sieges and politicking and shit.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind statting up 10 levels or so from the setup screens either, just to avoid the bandit-chasing and arena-grinding.

decided to give WFAS captain mode a whirl since warband invasion mode came out, they're fundamentally the same with slight differences

All I know about Nords is they're shitty recruits because NOHOERS, they're shitty opponents because they bog down your horse, and they have shitty raiders which are OP to compensate for nohoers, but most raiders are nohoers anyways so they're just a larger pain in the ass if they mob you when you get stuck on a tree.

Im at the point where I can take a castle pretty easily (Unrelated: How come my 70 dudes can butcher 200 dudes and only lose one or two?)

My question is how am I supposed to keep them defended? Am I just supposed to take them one by one, train troops, and slowly fill it with 80-100 guys? Or am I supposed to just dump a shitload of fresh recruits?

Every time the AI takes a castle, it fills with 80 guys instantly, and while I can take 5 castles in 5 days, I dont have enough men to defend them.

Yeah, if I plan to keep the fief, I drop all my troops in it and start scouting around for peasants to garrison in the fief. Don't train them, just try to have a large garrison.

If you want to finish the war tho, you should chain conquer the enemy, just go from fief to fief conquering all of them and leaving them mostly undefended, they might take some of their fiefs back, but they'll be willing to peace out quickly.

VC uses two types of AI, one when the player is near and another when he isn't.


The 'player near' AI is actually pretty smart and works together like you mentioned, chambers your attacks, and uses all the battle space it has available to outmaneuver you.


For example 3 spearmen engage you, instead of lining up one behind the other and getting their heads lopped as they close in to poke your chest for 0 damage, they maintain max distance and coordinate their stabs through your guard if you get too close, then work their way around both sides of your shield and time a perfect stagger-lock while calling two other dudes with axes in.


The other AI when the player isn't around is for mass combat, big formations smashing each other and grinding each other down, which is simpler and lets you have battle sizes of 375v375

I'm scrubtastic but I still remember my first game where I set damage on normal and played through so many complete losses, so many tournaments and battles and retrains, so many time reassembling my companions, that I could one-hit-KO basically anyone (including most lords) with a glaive.

Eventually I got to own this one particular castle I forget the name of that had a sweet spot to the left of the ladder where you were safe from arrows and could overhead-swing a glaive all day and it would clip just slightly through the crenellation, which was just barely enough to hit an enemy on the top of the ladder right on the head, so basically all my army did was crowd the front of the ladder to stop them from moving while I went headsman mode for the entire battle. The xp gain was something wonderful. I had like 80 men against ALL OF THE NORDS and I kept sending their entire army home to rebuild with half of the nobles and the king in my prisons. Only downside was it took practically hours of repetitive motion to play through a siege attempt.

Get an entire army of well-trained people (by training them yourself, invest in Trainer and get heroes that have it, also chase down bandits and pick your battles VERY CAREFULLY), then be prepared to lose a bunch of them and go siege a castle by yourself. Then go ride around chatting up every other noble in your faction about why you should get the castle. I hope you've done multiple quests for all of them by this time too, kiddo, rather than anything actually useful with your playtime, so maybe some of the actually will. Then your king will give his favorite faggot the castle you rightfully earned and you build up your army more and repeat the process. After conquering half of Calradia, your fat faggot king will finally, maybe, give you a castle. Or join one of the challengers to one of the thrones and get your shit pushed in over and over trying to take their kingdom over, but get to keep the castles, or most of them.

Instead I went back to Swadia, got some more troops, started doing some trading inside the kingdom, beat a few forest bandits, and got summoned to a siege on a castle. I headed there with my 15 remaining mostly fresh meats, nearly got there and some enemy faggot came at me out of the trees, fought him pretty well but went down, got captured, had enough food to keep my horse, got moved around until the quest expired, showed up at the siege anyways wounded and alone, pushed the siege tower myself standing on the top of it trading bolts with the crenellation guys, got kind of fucked up, retreated a little, let the other lords open up the way, shot until I ran out of ammo while working my way across the wall my allies weren't on, killed the last crossbowman with my axe and took his bolts, went back to shooting into the enemy (now I was behind them on the roof), shot down a guy who came up after me, took care of three or four more behind him with the glaive, took out the last few guys for the victory, and got invited to a feast as soon as battle ended.

So I'm alone again, but I still have my horse and maybe I can meet a waifu to help me jew my way into Harlaus' inner circle. Warband is kind of more fun just fucking around than going in with a strategy.

I had four days to report, I just wanted to gain favor, I didn't care if the peasants I paid 200 denars for bought it. Once in a siege I can just hide behind my allies and then go get some sweet sweet xp. So does the ai just suck with guns or am I unlucky?
Trying to play warsword conquest as a pirate with a pirate army.
Got a ton of rogues but it doesn't ever seem like they kill anything despite clogging the whole area in smoke.
Do rogue's just really really suck at aiming?
Are pirates just really bad early game?

I tried fighting a pirate army just to test and it seemed like even a pirate lords army despite filling the area with smoke wasn't really killing anything with their shots.

Am I wrong to think pirates should use guns?
