>What in the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Bastion, Machinearium, Braid, Limbo, Axion Verge, Guacamele, The Desolate Hope, Sonic Dreams Collection, Doritoe Galaxy, etc.
Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early acess. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.
>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.
>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indies, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. Besides that, don't forget to play our !!!!GAME OF THE WEEK!!!! and other indie games to have lots of joy and to make more discussions to our general. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone.
>WHERE ARE THE GAMES
See our !!!!!GAME OF THE WEEK!!!!! in the next post.
Also this pastebin: http://pastebin.com/ZbG0JPSn
-Do more wikis/images/pastebins (Platformer, Shmups, First-Person, Mobile, Flash/Browser based, etc) and update them to not overwork the Compendium anon
-Create an easy way to know about upcoming games, ludums, jams and comps (aka make News more useful)
-Pray for the return of TIGDB
last thread is 4 days old
FUCK, I FORGOT
The !!!!GAME OF THE WEEK!!!! is...
>Cortex Command by Data Relms
"CC is a mix of RTS & run and gun style gameplay circa Metal Slug but boast much more immersive and tactical positional awareness in which you fight to protect your units brain"
Download the game here: "https://kat.cr/cortex-command-build-30-newest-t9152955.html"
Developer page: https://www.datarealms.com/games.htm
And remember: you are free (and encouraged) to talk about all indie games here, but make an effort to try the !!!!GAME OF THE WEEK!!!! so you can be like all our cool, popular and decent sized senpais
You know, why not for a change?
>raped for days
>melted in a tub of acid
Actual qualified Spelunky experts can probably clarify the difference between the freeware and paid versions better, but for casual play I find the free one to be just as fun.
I don't name the games, pal, I just play em
Obake 10'th anniversary
Kind of like kirby, only with a body-possessing ghost(see pic). Story's in japanese but it's still very playable and fun. also free
Does anybody in here remember an old game, maybe from about ten years ago or so, that was an indie platformer for PC, but the graphics were entirely white noise?
That is, the background was white noise, but it was moving around, while foreground elements such as the platforms and the player character were static elements, thus allowing the player to see what they were controlling. I believe the concept was that if you were to take screencaps of the game, said screenshots would be unintelligible and pure white noise, and it was a game that needed to be seen in motion in order to be truly understood.
I've been searching for this game for a while, but I can't find it anywhere. Please tell me I wasn't crazy and that this game actually existed.
Man, i need something to cheer me up a bit that isn't drugs. Any happy games anyone knows
Just post your custom maps here senpai
reposting from the last thread: party member ideas for a possible LISA fangame I may never end up making if I can't get RPG Maker soon
tell me what you think.
Do you do Don't starve stuff?
Because i need more art of this surfer cutie

Also forgot to mention:
>I've been made aware that Lawson is really similar to Nern. Rather than a restoration character based on talking to people I intended him to be more of a buff/debuff character, with most abilities being based on criticizing/correcting people. Probably give him a rifle or shotgun too.
>I'll probably change Jake's name because
I don't want him to seem like a self insert
>I'm not sure which Tex Mitsubishi design I want to use. And yes I'm aware of the typo.
Photoshop but I want to get Manga Studio for sharper, thinner lines
Yes, I'm always open to more suggestions.
The party members I have in mind now are:
>a former papperazi who can blind people with camera flashes and take "incriminating photos" of people to extort them for more mags like Queen Roger
>a civilian aviator with a semi-functional flying bird suit, who uses flying dive attacks
>a Russian immigrant who uses sambo (Russian martial arts) and has a very tentative grasp on the English language
>an upsettingly promiscuous drag queen who can fluster enemies and make them feel weird
>a porn freak who until recently was in the possession of the only functioning TV in Olathe, with one curiously strong arm he uses to fight
>sign-waving doomsayer who flails around and causes panic
>sadistic failed medical school student with a lust for blood and drugs
>deformed man who can impersonate a Joy Mutant to scare foes
I love mutant wheelie, keep the good job, anon
the Tex thing has to do more on how you wan to settle him in the story and also how he is, clothes tell a lot.
for example, when wearing the sumo clothes one could assume he got into the style of sumo and lives of it as a rule, it might give him also a visual ridiculous style
the red jacket one has some martial arts type of movie influence, but seems more like a guy you would find in a gang, tough and harsh. he also looks older than sumo tex
And yeah, somebody suggested that in the last thread. The one without the jacket makes him stand out more, which is a good thing because he's slightly disconnected from the rest of the world of Olathe in his fighting style and way of thinking. I did the second one because I worried he'd stick out too much, but now that I think of it, it's for the better that he'd stick out.
Im that same anon, I really like when you people get creative in the good way
you can still make more gruff characters if you still want something more aggresive, like a biker
but to end my point, a sumo guy is just too amusing, it weird enough to have his charm but not too much to miss the place of olathe
also best mutants are wheelie, foreman and pops in that order. like, wheelie is very cool
he reminds me of a jab in a little story im trying to put together
Even in the game itself, you got characters who are similar.
Tigerman is pretty much Rage + bleeds and joy addiction.
There are several "hits everybody but has low accuracy attackers" like Shocklord, Fly, Fardy, and Ollie.
As long as the character himself is original, they can still share some of the same RPG mechanics.
Were you the guy who made the car mutant. He could be sort of like Chester, in that he appears in different places to help you, but only turns into a mutant once you get to some point of no return.
>Were you the guy who made the car mutant
nope, that'd be seashelbby
And I suppose you're right, especially when there are a lot of party members to pick form, you're bound to run into similar characters. I just didn't want anybody to seem like a "clone" of anybody else.
yep, it was a suggestion from an anon
Thanks. Designing Joy Mutants is really fun, I look forward to doing it more.
>a little story I'm putting together
what's it about?
I want to do a shitty walking simulator to learn rpgmaker
the main character is kind of a "mailman"
[just to justify walking]
like everything starts with no instructions at all
you could wander around until you find a fuel station and you feel compelled to enter a machine you can fix
while you are inside, you hear a shooting outside
once you get outside, nobody is left and the others machines once were fine, are now broken.
thing its every area is going to have a ministory in which to keep knowing and explore other ways you have to collect/give items
like today I was commenting to a cool guy a story which is kind of a "fuck you", at least in my head it sounds like that
I've been trying to make fem olathians to learn to be quickier with pixel art.
but im very slow
>yep, it was a suggestion from an anon
Someone redesigning my anonymous ideas is making me way happier than it should, this must be what phantom writers feel when their books sell well.
Anyway, have you guys played Hand of Fate? It's a pretty fun "rougelite" game with the combat system very similar to that of the Batman Arkham and Assassins Creed games, but with a very /tg/-ish twist. It's nicely difficult, the presentation is amazing and most of all, its quite
fun. Not worth 23€ though, i'd suggest a pirate first.
Anyone give this one a try? I just bought it because it looked really up-my-alley, but I was wondering what other people thought.
Is the fourth zone of Crypt of the Necrodancer complete bullshit, or am I just a baddie?
>nearly every enemy has some goofball-ass ability designed to fuck with you and synergize with the other enemies' goofball-ass abilities
>the other few enemies just take half your health in one hit
>those fucking green tiles that make you take double damage and unable to attack
>the fucking monkeys that teleport you
>the fucking wall-spiders that you need to destroy the wall to kill but they hang out on the INDESTRUCTIBLE WALLS
This is what happens when you let fucking artists and musicians make a game
Did they even playtest this shit? Is this supposed to be "indie difficulty"? This fucking zone is a broken-ass clusterfuck full of artificial difficulty.
The fourth zone is designed to be played in hardcore mode, after clearing the first three. If you enter with the upgrades and items you collected it isn't a problem.
I don't know why I'm even defending Necrodancer, the devs are SJW cucks who give their profits to Anita
Failure Brad's Scream usable on a regular basis sounds pretty strong to me. I'm also imagining Father's Rage to be like Queen Roger's attacks sans the crippling joy addiction. Would put in my party.
Dworven needs more bruisers though, most of his current characters seem to be supports.
haven't played too much don't starve (don't have stranded either) but she a cute
I'm having a hard time figuring out the source of this picture. I mostly find clustered as fuck Deviant galleries and Russian Facebook posts.
Some w.i.p for the booru icons anon wanted last thread. Format wise, is it looking okay?
10/10 shelbby also i like how the 2 anons wanted a no arms brad and a both arms brad so you just gave him 1
I like them so far, anon, really nice!
Would a Darkest Dungeon rep be a good replacement? From what I've seen on /v/, Crusader and Plague Doctor seem to be the most popular heroes.
>tfw no place for commando
Amazing work, though. Based shelbby
TO EVERYONE IN THIS GENERAL
THE NEWEST VERSION OF CORTEX COMMAND IS BUILD 31 LOCATED HERE http://vsetop.com/games/1093-cortex-command.html
>not build 30 noobs
>this version has built in mod manager
/indie/, why aren't you playing the best indie horror game available at the time?
Im really interested in this game
Like, i think I would laugh a lot with it
Quick progress update with booru icons.
Should anyone be evicted/replaced?
The spritework is actually real tight, and I don't care about the furry that much. I'll play it, then I will probably cringe a lot and regret it because it is made by a bunch of deviantart/tumblr autists.
>That faithful art style on everything
>That person put a lot of effort, but why bubsy?
The artist was at first attracted to the series because of the so-bad-it's-kinda-good factor. He started to toy around with the idea that Bubsy could possibly be a transwoman because of the female VA who occasionally used her Bubsy voice and then a more feminine voice.
They were disappointed over no new Bubsy games, but they understood that the games were bad, anyway. The idea behind combining Bubsy and Space Funeral was born when he got into Space Funeral, and then he found out that the guy who made the game also made a silly Bubsy fangame
So it's sort of like a tribute to both Bubsy and Space Funeral
Why is Environment Station Alpha full of bullshit "You HAVE to take damage to continue" places fucking everywhere? Special mention to those tentacles literary in the way everywhere in the aquatic section.
>no Brad Armstrong figure with karate chop action and detachable arms
>No Rando Army Mask
>No Terry plushie that gives you hints when you hug it/pull it's string
>no Lisa the Painful graphic novelization
>no Lisa the Painful brad jerky and whiskey
>No Gary the Hot Soup soup
>No Buddy dakimakura with Painful Buddy on one side and Joyful Buddy on the other
Finally all the booru icons are done. Each one's 68 pixels by 150 pixels.
Here's all of them individually too
>No Terry plushie that gives you hints when you hug it
oh my god why
i never knew how much I needed this, and that I will never have it
taking art requests
areas of expertise are Hotline Miami, LISA and Nuclear Throne.
I'm so sick of drawing Undertale, please no goats
how do you guys feel about le hungry french chef man?
>I didn't have to search for /indie/ today it was on the first row of generals.
Moving on up
>Wilson and Dropsy over someone from RoR and/or HM
Other than that, fantastic job.
We talk more about DS and Dropsy more then RoR or HM it would only be right if we had them as our booru icons, they are each the a franchise we talk about the most in this general.
>tfw the CEO is probably considered to be a
deformed freakback at home
Feels bad, man
I feel like a lot of things were pretty well explained in Dropsy despite its lack of dialogue and exposition but the exact motives of the CEO and why they all ended up where they were to begin with were the only things that weren't so much.
Most of the back story explanation comes from the Warm Damp Hug Edition's booklet
Spoiler image is the timeline from the booklet
They are completely different. The First is a Yume Nikki clone, while The Painful and The Joyful are Earthbound style RPGs.
They are great, but don't take The Joyful too seriously as a "sequel". It mostly ties a few loose ends and gives you a few cool boss battles.
Am I really the first person to do this? I've seen this request a lot when I came here without drawing
I played it last, but I still very much enjoyed the lore that kind of happened with a veritable unknown in Painful and Joyful. My only complaint is that it was too short. I didn't bother with a guide and finished it just over an hour. I felt like there could have been so much /more/ to it.
2000s, usually klei slipped some modern day references in the game but they are just spewing em out left and right and it's slight implying that they are from hawaii and modern day tropical locations.
the dumb jokes such aas "limpet bizkets" and "what a horrible knight to have a curse" are out of place, yeah. But stating that they actually know the source of those references and belong to the time period they originated is kinda overreaching i.m.o. Surfing is also pretty old aswell.
Well i am not saying that the references are killing it souly but since klei really never does openly state out info about the characters you have to make implications to figure out the lore and they just as characters really don't fit don't starve, it's like how klei justified Wigfrid by making her a actor instead of a actual viking.
sorry I took so long, I just got a little too involved playing Crypt of the Necrodancer
fuck that fucking zone 4, I hope Anita spends these assholes' money on Confederate flags or some shit
are you the anon who posts

also, Buzzo a best
don't bully the buzzo, he a good boy
now in all seriousness, not getting to fight him or fight as him is kind of disappointing. Berny a shit boss
>we never saw suit buzzo
In terms of likability, in what order would you rank
>are you the anon who posts Koo Dragonhead
I've heard there's a bug where Berny was supposed to have much more health than in the final version. I've been wanting to make a balance fan patch of sorts buffing him and Yado for a while, they're jokes.
Which is particularly shameful because Yado has one of the best final boss themes ever
This t b h

no, you are right on the johnny walrus guy, but his fight was never ending
if you open the Joyful in rpgmaker, you can fing out Berny's hitpoints were insanely high, but a problem with some switches, I think, restarted his second phase with the first phase HP
No, I know the Johnny Walrus bug, but there's also some kind of HP miscalculation involved with Berny's fight, too. Looking at the wiki he's supposed to have 165k HP so maybe his death animation was keyed to trigger much earlier than intended.
I found the pic
the ending of Buzzo's song was a surprise when I listened the OST
There's not only mechs in Brigador you dummy.
Of course I meant a mech-tank-agrav-threeway with a cucked exosuit standing at the side and a treadbike farting all over everything
Now that I think about it, there probably will actually be Brigador lewds once pilots are implemented.
I'm not Kohai, and I never will be Kohai, but I've been able to open up Lisa the painful/joyful in RPG VXAce
so I could make a fangame from it.
All you need to do is copy/paste the game's files into a new project's file (replacing them). The game's data and graphic are protected by a encryptor so you need to download an RPGmaker decryptor. Using the decryptor you can get full access to the game's graphic and data files. Copy these into the new project from before after extracting them after decryption. Open it up and RPGmaker VXAce and hell yeah, you've got full access to all the ins and outs of the game,
but in all seriousness, brad, buddy and rando are my top 3
what is this economy and alien planets shit? I never wanted to play Dropsy because I instinctively avoid anything clown related... but I guess you should never look an indie game in the mouth huh
Also shameless fetish posting.
The guys there have literally no shame. Like shit, if someone posted say, Buzzo vore here, people would rightfully cringe and lose their shit. In /utg/ stuff like that, doesn't bat an eye.
>go to the store to get Steam cards so I can buy RPG Maker VX and make my LISA fangame

g-gabe... i did it... I'm a good boy. I sweaaaar... I'm good. Goood... pleeeeeaaase...
Nope, but I was just about to start on that.
Feel free to suggest more party members if you have any fun ideas.
What I'm lacking right now is bruisers and healers.
Do a guy that made himself full body armor out of pillows and tries to smother the life out of his enemies. Also wrestling moves and can put allies and enemies to sleep with bad and good effects.
I'm using RPG Maker VX Ace, which was what Dingaling made LISA in.
I just got it about an hour ago and it's a bit overwhelming. I've had quite a full day today, but I'm going to get more into it tomorrow.
Someone who can't speak English, assumed to have came to have been in the area on vacation during the flash. Given that he is a BIG GUY most people assume he is threatening everyone when he is friendly. I guess most of his attack gimmicks would be based on what country you want him to be from.
I feel like a male cheer-leader would work in the setting with healing cheers, but whether to make him Terry-innocent or purposely dressing as a women is another creative decision.
I've been working on a LISA tabletop for a little while now, /indie/
If you like what you see you should use the roll20 link to join the playtest group. If enough people are interested we can work out scheduling. It's going to be text only since my connection can't handle voice/video.

>fuck up save
>try again a few weeks later
>go around the guy
>talk to him
>he tells me to step 2 to the left
That gave me a giggle
I've played many indie rpgs but never one so tense in that I could fall off a cliff and die like an idiot
Really adds to the atmosphere
Undermeme only lasts for about 4-6 hours to get the Neutral AND Pacifist endings. If you go Genocide then you can bump that up another 4, but Dankest Dungeon is a better choice overall for longevity and having actual gameplay.
A Hernandez with a mohawk, fights enemies by charging into them and using his bulk against them.
Native American character on a quest to find a facility that he heard has bloodtree seeds (although since it's a Lisa game, but's probably long since been burned down or re-purposed into something silly), uses the stump of the last bloodtree as a bludgeoning weapon.
Rock and Roll guy, can smack his enemies with his guitar, or heal his allies by shredding some sick licks. Joy addict.
The only playable musician we had in the game was Bo, so I thought other musician type characters could work.
Took a gander there. Makes the lust for muslim traps and edgy lolis over here look tame by comparison.
If you fall on top of him, you'll
break his neck. He'll still be alive, and will talk to you, but cannot be battled, so you can't get XP from him in this case.
Dankest Dungeon. I think UT is pretty good, but it's short, so DD would give you more bang for your buck.
Actually, i wouldn't get any of those yet. Undertale is good, but way too short if you don't actually try to pad it (i have 20 hours of playing just for trying to get all the variations of one ending), so just wait for a sale, as it isn't going anywhere. As for Darkest Dungeon, i don't have it, but just because it's Early Access, and i have a rule for those kind of games: Even if it looks great, i won't buy until it's complete. That has stopped me from buying things like that game, Don't Starve Together/Shipwrecked, Starbound, and few others. But i heard it's pretty good.
>As for Darkest Dungeon, i don't have it, but just because it's Early Access, and i have a rule for those kind of games: Even if it looks great, i won't buy until it's complete.
It's coming out of early access in a couple of days, so I think it's ok if he jumps the gun a little.
>Even if it looks great, i won't buy until it's complete.
Is that always true? I never played Nuclear Throne, but from what I read part of the
funwas seeing the changes as the devs made updates. I feel like I missed out on that phase of the game.
Take a number, there's quite a line.
I just thought of something.
You know when you go find the
Green Rangerand you discover that he hung himselfafter you killed all the warlords?
You get a steam achievement for this called no friends, implying that he killed himself because Buddy killed the last of his friends. Does this mean
Green Ranger was friends with Big Lincoln?
I always thought Tooley had like a co-dependency thing going on - he can't survive without other people out support/protect him. So he kills himself after the warlords all die.
I want to make my own indie game that is a basic 3D game where I play as a 3D ball, and move him with the arrow keys and advance a level every time I touch a green box. What do I do first? I assume render the ball in blender, but do I need Unity, and if I do, Can I get that in Debian Linux?
Also sorry if this is the wrong general to post this question in.
Bump, and I was curious about something.
How does the encounter with Buzzo, where he threatens to cut off Buddy's nipple go if you don't have any allies (say you got them all killed doing Russian roulette or fighting joy mutants)?
According to the wiki
>When taking a party member in trade for one of Brad's limbs, even if Brad's party is empty, Buzzo will force your last party members into your party to take from.
So I assume that also goes for the nipple
I know that the first time Buzzo wants an arm, you'll at least have Percy, and I'm not sure if there are any perma-kill enemies in area one, so you can't get rid of him.
And if you don't have any party members when you get to the end, you just fight illusions, but I'm not sure about the nipple scene.
Guess you could say she had a not good time
>ptsd from the sans fight
Tumblr you gone done and did it again
I want to send her this
>i wake up screaming and in tears each night because i've actually developed ptsd from the big lincoln fight and I have a recurring nightmare where BIG LINCOLN SENDS ME TO HELL
It wasn't part of my original plan, but now i might consider it.
I'm thinking more that the pacifist society was based on a lot of bloodshed, before he got enough political power tied in to lead such a society. Remember from the boss fight, he does actually know how to fight with shit like "Power Bomb" and "Brain Chop".
But mostly you're probably going to be recruiting people to fight for you. I don't have any details done yet, so that will probably crop up as i work through it.
Yung Venuz, a famous secret boss from Undertale
>To fight the boss Y.V., you need to reach the secret area Y.V.'s Mansion, which can be accessed through Papyrus' car bed. By sparing Papyrus you gain access to his house, where you need to press the interact button facing his bed exactly 100 times. Once that is done, a portal will appear leading to Y.V.'s mansion. Y.V. is fought at the end of the mansion.
We did it /indie/...
