Thanks, was leaning toward nightblade or demolitionist myself. The dagger I have gives a point to a nightblade skill; do I need to invest a point in that skill to get the +1 to it or will speccing into Nightblade be enough?

Thanks, was thinking of using the blood curse DoT with the Curse of Weakness to layer up a lot of blood damage and further boost the dot while maybe setting up a killing field with traps or AoEs, but it doesn't look like the Demolitionist has any decent traps like I was hoping. DoTs for trash and heavy hitting specials for bosses. I was hoping a plaguesmith type build would have been viable/ possible though.
One of the character builds I want to try on a different build is a Shaman/ Occultist zookeeper. How many pets can you have active at one time?
It does make it a bit tough. The eldar fire titian thing I found was easy enough, just kite him around and keep the DoT up. The monsters that have auto heal kick in that outdoes my DoT is a pain though, but now that I know I can get refunds for points spent I can experiment and try things freely.

Spirit guide is right there in Devil's crossing, you can speak to her right after completing your first quest after they open the gates.

My friend's conjurer had three variety of hellhound, the crow, briarthorn, black scourge, a skeleton, and primal spirit. I might be forgetting some summons from granted item skills. Point is, you can roll deep.

Anyone else have problems with random areas of ground sparking like items or there or get sounds/ animations and even models of loot dropping, but your unable to pick it up?

Also I think putting the character face next to the dialogue box isn't the best choice, they're all generic crap, artworks would be better especially for main characters like ulgrim and creed.

sometimes monsters drop what they were wearing/using but you can't pick it up unless I'm mistaken.

Come to think of it, the only dungeon crawler I recall playing multiple times other than this one was the first Torchlight.
And on some bosses (like log, hive queen) only 1 can hit the boss at a time. And reportedly (I've noticed this and there are complaints about it on the forums) that if you use the pet-attack skill and the pets can not target the primary target you selected, they'll walk around aimlessly even if there are other targets right next to them to hit.
Pretty buggy. Also starting to get tired of my Conjurer @ ~72. Gearing is terrible for it. Impossible to get good resists since every pet item had god-awful useless stats other than the pet stuff.
I thought more than 3 can attack a target if there's no obstruction (ie 4 around the boss in a circle) I could be wrong though.

Why the fuck they made so many of the soldier's skills so point heavy is beyond me. 12 on cadence at least would have been fine.
You will have to use Cadence if you do not have another autoattack class with it. You can safely neglect it later in the game when you craft Shard of Beronath weapon component which gives you a really good autoattack ability on it.

you can run that chtonic hellhole multiple times and get incinerators quite often if not always

I think it would encourage more playing/farming and give the player even more customization. RNG would make creating a bullshit item more difficult, and the one-shot aspect would make you want to hold out for the good bonus.

There's no way retaliation will be viable in Ultimate. I mean, sure, you can probably make it work somewhat on regular mobs and melee heroes, but it would take years to kill anything.

Your reasoning is dumb, retalation are melee hits that don't rely on your swing and use other dmg modifiers, saying things like "it doesn't work on ranged" is like saying that melee hits are not ranged.
Saying "it relies on enemies hitting you" is like saying your melee relies on you hitting the enemy, if you have low OA you will not hit, if you have high DA you will not get hit so you do the same you would do for melee, you build around it.
Retalation is simply extra melee attacks that rely on the enemy to activate, and you're gonna get hit when you're melee, regardless if you built around retalation or not.
I'm probably falling for some bait here, but I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt:

I'm actually not sure of whether or not it relies on OA either, but if it does, you're probably gonna run into problems hitting enemies in Ultimate, and if it doesn't, it can't crit (You can get pretty ridiculous numbers of retaliation, though)
What I'm saying is, you can't rely on retaliation only. You need something else as well, to deal with ranged attackers and situations where you get mobbed by 4+ heroes at the same time, and can't tank them for extended periods of time.

Elite is fun. I like the way this game handles difficulty. It's not a gearcheck, more of a check on your ability to adapt to damage types. It's a fancy way of saying "stack resist or get killed by shrimps", but it's better than D3's "farm legendary sets to be viable".
exactly how is this different? If you don't have the resist you obviously have to go farming. Its the exact problem I'm facing now, with trivial white mobs chunking at my health due to low resists.
Haven't found an upgrade yet that would let me play competently in about 5-10 hrs of farming
it took me awhile to upgrade my gear as well but you can also craft or buy some good items. Sometimes I just start a game, check the vendors, exit game, and repeat till I find something worth buying.

I solved the problem by revamping my devotions and putting right components on my gear, I never felt like I gotta go farm for a particular item in order to not get blown the fuck out. Maybe things will change on Ultimate.
You don't really need to grind to get those resists though. Just playing through the game gives you more than enough to get whatever resists you need to a suitable level.
I never feel like I need to go grind until I get a particular drop in this game.
So if I'm currently halfway through elite, do you guys think I should stop and try to grind a faction to nemesis? It seems like theres a number of level 60-65 legendaries but by the time I would get nemesis through the regular game, I'd probably be level 70 and the better ones would be dropping and those old ones would sort of be "lost" forever
Im assuming this is how it works or am I wrong and you still get level 58-65 legendaries from nemesis chests when you're a high level in ultimate?

Why don't they just make it so that Hardcore characters, when they die, can be brought back to life as Softcore characters?
That way you preserve the purity of HC runs, but people who die in HC and want to keep going with the same character can still do so.
Im using that right now and doing just fine. Basically just using the retaliation abilities from demo though so its almost a pure nightblade build. But honestly, I'm kicking ass with it.

AFAIK they count as a passive buff when they're active. So it should affect AAR.
It's easy to test though. Put AAR in your attack slot. Look at your DPS stat. Activate Witchfire. Look at your DPS stat again.

I do want to make a poison build some time but I was thinking of going generic caster mode for that. I know melee is stronger but my main is already a Spellbreaker so I don't want to play with similar skills so soon.

It's a caster with one devastating melee poison attack. You can skip DEE for a while in favor of item skills + debuffs. Noxious bomb for aoe and Infinite gaze for single target works just fine.
like two weeks? b29 literally exploded and when drm free version will be released game should gain even more recognition and generals will survive easily long enough.. this actual thread moving quite slow, though
NJE is definitely up there in terms of damage, even from an early stage. It's fun to use too what with the blink and the options it opens up hit and run attacks combined with your other abilities.

I've been messing around a bit with a Saboteur build and am a bit lost on what to take as my primary offensive abilities.
Going dual wield together with Fire/Static strike, as well as using P.Burst with Elemental Awakening seems good enough but that still leaves me with a lot of points. Are Thermite Mines worth it? Was thinking either that or the Mortar, or just go ham on Grenado and max out it out.
Both are good and totally viable.
Commando gives you shitload of buffs and speed and the best debuff.
Sorcerer gives a shitload of elemental damage, 3s invuln and the best toggleable defensive buff.
Will you be a tough pistol guy or a crazy pistol alchemist?
I'd say Sorcerer but it's also harder to gear up, you're going to need a lot of +elemental damage coupled with attack speed and defensive stats while Commando has at least two of these already from the skilltree alone.
It's tempting to go full on damage but I'd suggest to pump physique first at least until level 25 or something, Act I will be a slog but you won't get killed and you'll have more choice of gear once you reach Act II. And grab a Gunslinger Talisman/Jacket/Marauder Belt as soon as possible.
Kiting in this game is so fucing painful. I made a sorcerer and while dealing shitloads of damagewith a full marauder set, animations are slow as shit and you find yourself facetanking, or trying to, any tough enemy generally.
Match that with the absence of dash, cancel aggro (or anything like that) skills and you find yourself relying on high defenses with a fucking ranged mage.
I'm not buying Crate next game if they don't trash this fucking engine once and for all.
Crowd control is fine, although heroes and bosses are immune or resistant to freeze, stun and flashbangs effect quite often. Backstepping I don't know how you can be fine with it unless you always have +30% total speed...

I got the first one maxed and it helps, but does the second one help against bosses? I'm having difficulty burning them down right now and in veteran I'm just getting by although I've only died a few times
I'm doing cadence using a 2 hander and using the aura from arcanist that leeches energy from enemies and converts some of your physical into elemental damage.
I'm only level 14 though right now, but its going well on hc veteran.
how do i improve my survivability? the few times i've died i went from 100 to 0 instantly and couldn't tell what it was that killed me. don't mind the DPS, totem build
I'm finding bosses to be a bit of a grind as well. Level 30ish shaman and I'm just not finding the right sense of balance between my offense and defense. Gotta expiriment some more and just chug those potions.
Resists and Armor. Your chaos, aether and stamina res are low and looking at your level you should be in the last areas where those are very usual on mobs.
Kite large packs and dodge projectiles.
Im running an on-hit Demo/Arc pistol build right now. It shits out more damage than any other build I have done, but it is the epitome of glass cannon. If I can't kite a boss / named mob I get one shot.
I think this can be solved though by specing more into Maiven's / Mirror / Vindctive Flame.

B29 has been out for a month but really only added necrapolis and the final boss. Even before that game still had tons of content.

Went through act 1 with no deaths on a dual wield pierce blademaster and was feeling pretty confident, then died 3 times in an hour on act 2

Normal/Vet is just the training wheels phase in these games. Everyone knows that the real game begins on the higher difficulties. Everything we've seen and done prior has been worthless.

2h is pretty shitty. Dual wielding in general is always better in Grim Dawn.

Just go to the spooky blacksmith in Necropolis and craft it.
But yeah, I'm edfinitely not farming that shit with every character I'll make, Crate needs to increase relics blueprints and crafting materials drop rates.

Would a Blademaster make for a good sword and board defensive build?
What class would be better? I kinda want to make something that can tank trough stuff and just hit everything with a poisoned sword. I have always loved poison in games and this one finally has made it good.
I was not aware there was a blacksmith in necropolis or that you could craft hearts. Learn something new every day.
But yeah, drop rate is too fucking low on purple materials. Been trying to farm blood of cthons too, it's fucking awful.
Is there a cutoff for getting the enemy/faction specific crafting materials? I was fighting the early ass golem in flooded cavern at level 77 when he is like level 60 and still getting ancient heart but now I need a metric fuckton of Binding Seals from the blood cult guys and they used to drop like candy but I'm 78 now and they're about 70-75 but I haven't seen one drop in like 3 resets of a dungeon when usually I'd get like 3 drops per run.
In fact you have to use either tainted brain matter or blood of chthon to craft it, which are equally tiresome to get.
