I've gotten one and that was like 2 days after getting the original quest to do one I think. Got to level 25 went to the other town and just bought tokens off of the marketplace to get the talent. I also ended up buying the wrong tokens so I ended up with a not so great talent. Fun times.

The instant beak slam always hits to Garuga's left first before going forward.
If you remain on Garuga's right you'll at least have a warning before getting hit.

I personally feel the beak slam was a way to be a dick to players since from what I've seen from the average player, they tend to roll to their right rather than their left when in a position to do either.
So Garuga does it's low startup lag attack and it attacks directly to where people normally dodge if they are in front of it.
At least that's my reasoning behind it, not saying it's a good move or not of course.

What would you consider to be your end-game? As in what is your goal before you move onto the next game? For example, mine is to kill each monster in the game at least once before I go to 4U.

Well, take for example a very normal situation where a GS finish the draw swing, then wants to roll to the side.

Either side is open, and there's no indication of danger from either one.
From my experience in that case more players tend to roll to their right on average. Not in any specific meaning, but habit.

Zelda. Pokemon but the last two times I got a pokemon game I only played it for like three weeks, so probably not that anymore. KI:U was fun but I exhausted it of content years ago. AC:NL was super comfy at first but now I get horrible pangs of anxiety even thinking about it. And Smash, though I mostly play that to kill time when I'm too drunk or don't have enough time to devote to MH.

At one point I was about to say "fuck it" and come back with G-rank armor and fully upgraded weapons. However my stupid pride wouldn't let me, so I got gud until I beat it with HR Ivory Lagia armor and HR Dios Switchaxe. Took me ~30 minutes though and 2 days of the week I spent trying to beat Alatreon were spent looking for a +6 Attack talisman, so I could have Atk Up (L) and Bombardier on the armor while being able to negate Short Sprinter.

It's a life simulator with a lot of little elements to make it feel comfortable, which is pretty much the best thing a life sim can have. It's a medium through which you can have a cute decorated home and make/wear cute clothes and spend all day fishing or catching butterflies. Para weapons are great, and generally there aren't many weapons that will be better than what it upgrades to until you're in g3 and can make some G rank weapons from scratch. No problem sticking with that for a while, and often rarity 9 status weapons are actually fairly solid, usually having high enough affinity/sharpness/slot count to make them comparable to stronger weapons in terms of damage output.

I made lagombi each time I could craft a new set of it and just wore that until g3 kushala when I made that set. Armour isn't really that big of a deal. Lagombi looks good on both males and females and has evade extender which isn't a bad skill to have on most weapons, so you may want to give that a look as well. Alternately anything that gives you ten points of handicraft, you're going to start to want that or razor sharp in G.

Earplugs and wind res are VERY useful quality of life skills, along with tremor res though not that much before g3 causes enough tremors for that to matter. Evasion+1 (or any level, but you don't need more than +1 and people will often look down on you if you have +3 because while there's actually more things you can dodge with it, you can dodge more reliably and it creates more openings to attack with faster weapons, it also means you don't have to be as precise and people feel that makes it a crutch that turns you into a bad player who is reliant on the skill) allows you to dodge roars pretty consistently if you learn the timing, which makes earplugs redundant in all but a few cases (mounting and certain roars like akantor's that last six fucking years and can't be iframed). Perfectly dodging roars feels great too, and evasion helps with more than just roars. Wind res is always useful since almost everything spams windpress, and as far as I know you can't iframe windpress, so by all means take that if you want.

If you don't know what to gem in or what set to pick, attack up, critical eye and weakness exploit are always valuable skills, and fencing/mind's eye has some uses though generally if you're hitting something that isn't apex and bouncing off you're playing badly apart from a few cases like kirin and garuga where some weapons' hitboxes can be really hard not to strike an armoured hitzone with. Note that you should only take WE if you are confident you can consistently hit weak hitzones (45 or more if you're checking kiranico), but on most monsters it's the most cost-effective offencive skill, adding 5-11% damage without much investment. On the other hand if you aren't confident getting WE could be incentive for getting good since it makes weak spots even weaker.

Iframes represent the period during which you are most alert and aware after your reaction time has been triggered, when you can make deft motions in the air to slip past incoming claws, fireballs, etc even if you appear to collide with them. You're just slipping in between the sound waves because your reflexes are that good.

Anyone play Monster Hunter Explore? I'm trying to access some quests on the second island that appeared after getting the treasure, but it won't let me proceed from the armor set selection screen. They would both be very different fights to the existing ones, so I'd be happy with both.

Recently I picked up MH4U and I can't decide between lbg and db.

The two things that hold me back playing lbg are the fear of being an easy one shot on g-rank and how well it performs solo.

Anyone got some advice for me?

If you are new to MH, blademaster weapons are less punishing than gunner weapons.

You need to understand that you shouldn't get hit while playing gunner, so it's better to go gunner against monsters you know well.

It flips the moveset on its head, like by making A a triple stab. X actually unsheathes into or performs a Right Swing, then Left Swing. The backward attack is completely removed, leaving just Superpound.

lbg seems pretty fun but being able to get one shot any given moment in grank sounds terrifying.

Well you won't be anywhere near G-rank for quite a while. I used Bow through LR and HR and that was definitely doable.

Actually, few things will one shot you in G rank, but still you'll easily get hit for 60~80% with high chance of being comboed to death.

As blademaster, you won't get hurt that much but you can get comboed as well and cart anyway, and it's easier to get hit as blademaster.
