I remember a lot of people complaining back a year ago that they kept getting lost in SMT IV.
It's actually pretty simple and I only got lost once looking for some domain before I realized half of them are random. Are people just dumb?
OP why you gotta start the last thread of 2015 with such an abomination? You dick.
For the sake of future generations that get to play a patched SMT IF... I'd like to offer this advice.
There will be a time in this game where you'll be thinking, it can't be that bad, right?
This game should be getting better, not worse, right?
There's no way the developers would do this to us, right?
I'll just spend hours in fusion trying every combination in order to get Estoma, and turbo mode through this, right?
The Atlus' programmers, in 1994, foresaw the invention of emulators with turbo functionality, and programmed their step/moon phase counter to not track steps taken in turbo mode.
Yes, you'll have to pace those mines in real time. For six months. In a dungeon designed to teach you to stop procrastinating and work hard.
I legitimately hate this game.
Upon further experimentation, I have discovered that the route I was sprinting up and down in turbo contained an NPC, as most do. The area is littered with them to force you to skip through repetitive dialogue as you pace.
And some reset the counter on your current moon phase. They're densely packed enough on some pacing routes to indefinitely reset your current moon phase.
Sorry, gave Atlus too much credit. Game is more broken than I thought.
Sadly, a clusterfuck would be preferable because things would actually be happening. Every dungeon has been extremely short, sparse on detail, and designed to waste as much time as possible through mob/boss/gimmick difficulty.
I already dug through a Japanese site listing PAR codes, but I don't know that anything like a moon code exists. I've used PAR codes on SMT 1 before when I was ripping background assets for a phone theme and disastrous, game breaking results followed. I think the coding is just too convoluted.
The story is Megami Tensei I tier. That might be unfair, because I at least found MT1's world to be interesting (dungeon layout, a flyable city, sea of flames, etc).
>Evil student sends school to the abyss
>Warp to tiny, compartmentalized dungeons to fight a monster and get key to next dungeon
This isn't someone saying "oh in Strange Journey all you do is fight a monster to get key to next dungeon repeat hurr durr". That's omitting a lot of details and character moments.
I'm actually being totally descriptive here. I really hope something happens soon, maybe some huge twist will come along but it's not looking good. If I get through this without murdering a single friend I will lose my goddamn mind.
Good. The students are just starting to finish their shafts and I killed a fat guy so I think I'm finally about ready to move on in one more cycle.
Last 2-3 dungeons better be pretty stellar to make up for this shit.
>the one on the left
You're welcome Anon.
>SMT IV Final
>Endings are determined by your relationship with your partners
>most of your partners are cute girls
Where were you when the age of waifus came upon us?
Also Dagda's design is cool as fuck. Not convinced about the protags though. I think the punk hairstyle is a little over the top.
I hope they can make the endings satisfying. I've never really cared for the alignment system, largely because of how biased the series is towards Neutral. Nocturne's system has always seemed better to me on a conceptual level, but none of its endings/routes had enough variance/their own identity, they were all very samey compared to the games that used the alignment system.
>Implying I would ever use anyone except Isabeau, Nozomi, or Hareruya/Hallelujah
Most of them are about 15, strangely. It's like everyone's either almost-20 or in their 40s.
That's not really weird. I mean, the foundation rose 20 years ago, and it would be the people in their 20's who'd have the best chance of survival. Whereas most of the first generation born after the Foundation would be around 15-20.
>not going with based Toki
>ever single ending is a different form of Neutral
And Reasons were supposed to be different from the LNC system. I'm seriously wondering how they're going to make Peace and Anarchy different from Law and Chaos on an appreciable level.
GUYS HOLY SHIT
I was looking around an old shelf and realized I'd left some Dreamcast games on that shelf behind some stuff years ago and I just fucking found this
I don't even remember owning this game, I must have gotten it when I was four years old and completely forgotten
I was talking to a friend about this game like two days ago and here it is
>"actually an SMT protagonist"
>friend I was talking to looks exactly like chaos hero
That's not even an exaggeration, it makes him angry how accurate the comparison is
We did it guys.
Its worth it.
Wait, aren't you supposed to map every dungeon in SMT games? So you don't become underleveled.
Demons aren't that different from humans in SMT. Some are nice, some are jerks trying to fuck you up, and others want to fuck you just like real life.
>mfw i'm mapping every dungeon in SMT1.
No wonder SMT1 is so easy.
You have been playing too much of these shitty WRPGs, demons are just tools, the ones you have shall be used and the ones you don't have shall be destroyed.
Except Pixie, Pixie is special.
My idea was always that SMT IV takes place after SJ, since it's made clear in SJ that the Schwarzwelt will inevitably reappear. Makes sense to me that it would eventually come back, and without Doomguy around to shut it down again, the CDF became a thing but eventually failed anyway. It would explain why they use Demonicas, considering they'd been useful in the past.
I recently came upon this image. Is this even plausible?
I'm about to sleep, will look harder into that in the morning, but it is pretty close.
The only thing that I see that I would correct is Raidou. He would be in the center, kicking off a bunch of universes.
The lineup of SMT1/if... to Persona/Devil Summoner, SMT1-SMT2, and DDS1-DDS2 are the only ones significantly supported by in-game material. The rest are fairly speculative but not entirely without basis. For example, the claim that SMT3 follows from the SMT1 Chaos ending is based on a quote from Kaneko that said something like "the artistic and moral sensibilities of the world in SMT3: Nocturne essentially draws more from the SMT1 Chaos route than any other source". But that's not the same as saying it's a sequel of that, of course.
It's nonsense. Just look at the bullshit it has to pull to integrate Nocturne into the chart. This is what happens when fans take references and easter eggs more seriously than the developers.
The simplest and most consistent explanation is that there is a megaten multiverse and occurrences in these universes can bleed into each other through supernatural entities, but there is not a strictly linear time relationship between universes
A lot of speculation are confirmed on Raidou 1, but people did not give attention ( or fucks for that matter ). Game was too cluncky for most people's taste.
Raidou 2 confirmed a few others, literally joined a bunch of stuff, and solidified Raidou the 14th as one of the biggest, strongest characters in the multiverse ( which people usually don't accept ).
Worth to note that Raidou is literally Kaneko's favorite child, by far. Both Raidou games were passion projects, stuff that he did how he wanted, hands on and etc.
> tfw when would give up SMT IV for Raidou 3, because it means Kaneko is on the house
Before I go, here it is a fairly recent Kaneko picture.
I got SMTIV for Chrimbo, do I go law or chaos. Can I romance Walter? Is there any way to warp out of fucking Naraku or do i have to keep doing back and forth? Pls help, I've never played an SMT game before in my entire life.
but I have played P3FES for 100+ hours.
Try for neutral unless you have a hard-on for one alignments already, if you don't you'll just be disappointed. You cannot romance Walter but he's the Chaos hero if it makes a difference.
>law or chaos
Answer questions honestly and see what happens, especially since this is your first SMT.
>can I romance Walter
>is there any way to warp
There are locations you can warp to and from, but they don't become abundant until you're almost out of Naraku.
do a blind run
or nuetralno you can't romance walter.
kinda early spoilers follow
you don't stay in Naraku for long, you move on to more interesting places. teleports to get between far and distant places are found tho
I did this in MT1 and ran out of MAG, the game became almost impossible, since I was in the Sea of flames and almost all enemies don't give MAG, so I remember I managed to solo the dungeon with only the two heroes. At least in MT2 I could grind for MAG and have healing points nearby.
Okay, what do I play after that? soul hackers? devil survivor? strange journey?
why do cu chulainn and setanta look so fucking ugly
why do cu chulainn and setanta look so fucking ugly
You play the game called suicide, faggot.
Nocturne if you really like it. DeSu: OC if you want something more character focused like Persona.
I don't mind if it's character focused or not. Just which is easiest for me to obtain. Does Nocturne have a digital ps3 copy?
Also, I just remembered I have a copy of Raidou vs The Soulless Army as well, so maybe that should be next.
Which one is longest?
I don't even know what MAG does in SMT1 because i have so much of it.
Thank you for giving me an excuse to post Jun.
>Daleth tries to kill me, kills Beth instead
>run into him later, wacky anime love potion hijinks happen
>after it's done and over with that's it, can't even really interact with them
I thought these games were meant to be taken seriously? This is bullshit.
Do I not get to kill this guy? Does he even show up again? I thought him killing Beth would actually mean something rather than just being ignored.
>I thought these games were meant to be taken seriously?
>Taking any mainline SMT game seriously
>I thought these games were meant to be taken seriously?
I don't know, you guys just seem to take offense to having SMT compared to less-serious games like Persona.
The general mood in this game until this point was relatively serious as well.
>For a woman to be a succesful on screen personality in japan she must be unrealistically manic and childish while the men act normal and laugh how much of a stupid woman she is.
Why is this ok?
>Literally no porn of Sera
Why is this allowed?
So with the Nintendo exclusivity deal now finished and the last Atlus game on a Nintendo platform, SMT F being made what does this mean for SMT?
Will it return to being a Sony series? PlayStation/Xbox multiplat? Sony/PC?
What do you think?
i'd like to see consoles die after this generation and i think it might be possible
>integrated GPU becoming more powerful and the standardization amongst PCs that brings
>current gen consoles have x86 processors anyway and are basically locked down PCs
>#FE was a flop
He never wanted to kill Beth, she sacrificed herself to protect you. Daleth thought that Beth was being manipulated. He's really not a bad guy, just ended up on the wrong side of fate.
Here's the official Atlus approved one.
Chances are they're gonna milk the shit out of P5 first and then reuse the assets.
SMT games in my Steam store? Unthinkable!
Probably never. I don't dislike the idea but I'd rather they use the time/budget for new mainline/spinoff games.
When playing through the full story (SMT1-2), you are presented with a nonstop stream of death and despair. The stupid Infidelity Sap arc is the one bit of comic relief you get for the whole ride. Enjoy it while it lasts. Or don't and take it out on Puck.
And yeah, Daleth shows up later, at least on the Chaos route.
>You want to try the arcade machine?
>Give me $1.30
>This is not enough. Give me $1.30.
>[Baito-kun is thinking.]
>Answer my question. Have you heard of [Nintendo game that came out recently]?
>Then I'll tell you about something you don't know; your sudden demise!
>Nintendo wasting anymore money on Atlus after #FE
QDS VOLUME 2
I even started re-reading volume 1.
Also, happy new year SMTG. Have an honorary hoy.
Get off my lazy ass and beat DeSu Lucifer and DDS2 Satan.
>KOWASHITAI idol group sings the Fire Emblem theme before the final battle
YEAH I GET IT. No need to rub the salt into the wound, Atlus.
Honestly I might buy this game when it comes to the States because it could potentially flop here and it'll be a nice rare game to keep wrapped up. I don't even own a Wii U, nor do I have the intention of buying one ever.
Same reason why I bought SMT NINE. I can't play it technically, but it holds meaning to me. I like to own things that failed when the makers had ambition for it.
Who am I kidding. This game will probably sell more in America than it did in Japan because the Wii U is starved of JRPGs.
You're probably right. Seeing as how not even FE and SMT fans want nothing to do with this game, the only demographic is a different one and it'll be difficult convincing those weebs to buy it, I think.
I've said it a few times - it's the game nobody wanted in the guise of the game a lot of people wanted. I mean, the game was practically destined to fail as soon as it dropped off the radar entirely for as long as it did. It's a real shame, too. I get sad thinking of what could've been.
I'm not so sure that a lot of SMT players would have liked the original idea anyway, since it was meant to be a fantasy SRPG.
I mean I'm sure you guys would have liked it more than this game, but it would have mostly appealed to FE fans or SRPG nuts like me, most likely.
I was looking at some English patched physical copies of KMT, SMT, and SMTII. Apparently they're sold on eBay, but they won't answer which translation they're using (Orden fix, for example) or if the auto mapping patch for SMT1 was included.
I can tell you if Final was announced at the same time as SMT x FE was reintroduced, the reaction would have been very different. There is a good reason why FE fans were less angry: FE If was on the horizon and got a new trailer during the same direct. If new FE wasn't coming there would have been twice as much butthurt.
I remember a name pretty easily if I see it enough, but the ones that are hardest for me to remember are the ones with really weird names like the Aztec demons.
Japanese ones aren't really THAT hard to remember, if I do forget some of them it's probably because so fucking many of them are in the game.
Well, SMT If... was shit. Vague, minor spoilers below.
>Tiny, linear dungeons with high difficulty + new Guardian mechanic to encourage heavy grinding. The final secret dungeon in the "true" route is seriously just one floor. Clearly designed to minimize developer effort while maximizing user play time.
>A dungeon entirely dedicated to making you pace up and down some corridors for 8 in-game months. It's not a puzzle, an NPC flat out tells you what you need to do. Really. Just pace for hours on end in an area with an encounter rate that puts SMT 1 to shame. Good luck fusing a specific demon with Estoma using the SNES-era fusion system!
>Garbage plot. The villain is a (somehow) less competent and more obnoxious Nakajima. The true manifestation of /r9k/. He's super powerful though and sends you and the school to the abyss by way of... uh... never really explained, and then makes you fight a boss to get a key to fight more bosses and so on. Generic Persona 4 dungeon-tier events happen on the "true" ending. I think Akira's route is slightly more SMT in nature, but hell if I'm playing that again to find out for sure.
>NO FRIEND KILLING. Unless you somehow consider
Charley's attempt to cure Stone statuswhich you have the choice to partake in.
Things SMT If... did right:
>Some character routes have exclusive dungeons, encouraging replay. However, you have to go through that horrible fucking pacing dungeon every time, so just look up the endings online instead.
>A few nice dungeon tile sets, specifically World of Wrath.
>Saxophone Unicorn boss
I loved Kyuuyaku and SMT 1+2 so I'm pretty gutted by this. Don't let me discourage you though, if you have more tolerance for sheer tedium or crippling autism you might almost enjoy this game.
That's the fox that changes depending on how much you took right? Never got the chance since I picked Charley. I just read the translation for the girls' routes, not going through again for that boss, even though it sounded like a neat mechanic.
The casual market will always prefer to plug in and play, even if that means moving to mobile. But that as well is very unlikely, because mobiles don't allow you to have proper multiplayers or online play.
Even if consoles need to change, they are going to stay relevant.
And that is my point.
The people who can go out of their way to build a PC is lower in comparison to the people who just want to plug-in and play with their friends.
PC gaming may be "superior", but I don't see consoles dying anytime soon.
He looks sort of similar to Shizuru from Phantasy Star Portable 2.
Finishing SMT1 and fighting David again.
Happy almost new year, you bunch of easily butthurt assholes. To another year of the best thread on /vg/.
Hey /smtg/ i have a favor to ask:
I was forced to reformat my PS3 so i lost all of my saves. I was wondering if any of you had any saves for DDS2 with characters above level 70 or a NG+ save.
Happy New Year /smtg/, I'm afraid I might not be able to funpost with you all tonight.
Don't worry. We're surely due for a conception this time.
How do I cure frog status in SMT 1? I went to a healer and he couldn't do anything and me patra doesn't cure it either. Does it just wear off after a while?
Only you guys.
>used to spend NYE playing video games and snacking with friends
>we're all old and don't live in the same city/province/country now
>doing it alone out of old habits/memories
>Not having friends to kill
>Not going out and playing vidya with them to usher in another terrible year
I want to say no, but I don't know for sure. Also you might get a response from someone who actually knows if you say what game you're playing.
I didn't really have any hope of getting an answer when I posted. All generals are full of stingy little assholes who don't even know shit about the game, and wouldn't tell you if they did.
can i fug Chiaki or Yuko by siding with them
Hey guys, happy new year!
Happy new year, I can't still get out of the casino.
Playing Conception 2 here and I was thinking that this game could be a lot better if it was a megaten spin-off.
>classmating to give birth to demons in the church
>not holding hands, but doing satanic rituals to summon demons from your waifu's womb
>just change the dusk monsters into demons too
The plot/gameplay is fine, don't need to fix anything.
Welp; both dl for the DeSu OST are death.
Now I'm starting to consider creating a mega account to store and share all these things. Although my internet is shit, I don't have all the megaten related OSTs yet, and I think anyone outside of 5 or 8 newfag guys would care about this.
YOU HAVE BEEN VISITED BY LORD KANBARI
GOOD POOPS AND NICE DIGESTION WILL COME TO YOU BUT ONLY IF YOU POST IN THIS THREAD THE FOLLOWING:
"Kanbari Nyudo hototogisu, Arigatou Kabari-Sama"
Kanbari Nyudo hototogisu, Arigatou Kanbari-Sama
FUCK YOU, YOU WONT GWT BETWEEN ME AND MY POOPIES!!!
Kanbari-Sama Nyudo hototogisu, Arigatou Kanbari-Sama
happy near year guys I love you all
Kanbari nyudo hotogisu, arigatou kanbari-sama
I had the nastiest poopies yesterday, this comes in handy
>Fighting this guy in Raidou 1
>Demons keep getting charmed and healing him to full even if I whip out status recovery items a split second after it happens
So this is what Nyx Avatar was like for all those people
Just found that PS2 saves don't work on the PS3 digital PS2 games.
I lost everything, this year is going to be hell.
Dicks improve everything. Proof right here.
In a way I'm sad, because it seemed like a big project for Atlus and they probably lost a lot of money on it that they could have used on better games. But also, I'm glad that people had the sense not to buy the game.
>mfw i just figured out how to convert the PS2 files into VME's.
>mfw it worked
Never give up /smtg/.
I'll be your friend man
But first you've gotta' tell me
Demon girls or human girls?
I spent the last 5 hours trying to figure out some guides and tutorials, that overcomplicated stuff. I nearly gave up until the guy in some portuguese tutorial mentioned the SaveBuilder app and everything just clicked on my head.
I'm stupid and terrible with machines but at least i'll get to enjoy Nocturne with the DC completed and Raidou 2 NG+ Chaos ending.
The only thing that i'm really sad to have lost was my character in Dark Souls. I had giant amounts of VIT,STR,INT,FAITH and Stamina.
A few threads ago.
Emulates very well if you set it up correctly.
Download the one from this thread
I apologize for it being Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/22jlld/desmume_x432r_high_resolution/
Then be sure to set your 3D settings to OpenGL if the text doesn't render correctly.
Kanbari Nyudo hototogisu, Arigatou Kanbari-Sama
I just love how random the Japanese are. Even in their feudal times they were crazy.
Being the developer doesn't mean that they were the ones with the money in the project. Nintendo hired Atlus to make the game, and they received an X money for their work. Much like Neverland was usually hired to make the Rune Factory games for Marvelous. Hired developers usually only receive a set money for their work, it doesn't matter if the game flops hard or sells lie cupcakes, they won't be affected by that.
Any news on Devil Summoner translation patch?
Drinking coffee gives me the nastiest shits. They smell bad, are painful, and have disgusting consistency. Probably because I almost never drink it. I don't know what possesses me to do so every once in a blue moon because I wind up bitching about this every time.
It's not caffeine because I can drink tea or energy drinks without getting shits. The problem is tea isn't strong enough and energy drinks make me nauseous.
I'm gonna stop blogging now. Happy
Coke zero has more caffeine than a normal man needs, try it but careful because you can become addicted so easy. They pump a shit ton of caffeine on that thing so it can taste better.
Slow BBQ some good meat today goddamn I wish family was never here. What a good NYE, now if only that mofo Red Rider decides to pop up on that fucking room it would be perfect .
I'll rephrase my earlier reply.
Ys I and II are the only ones with good story.
After those, just play Ys Origin (PC), III (Oath in Felghana) and maybe Seven and consider the series done.
>Ys V on a SNES emulator but that ones is just plain horrible.
>Gideon wasted time translating Ys IV and V even though not even the fanbase wanted them instead of working on if...
Fuck this shit.
Afraid I only have official art.
Not that that's a bad thing.
>Walter just bitched out to find whatever Lilith was talking about after clashing swords with Jonathan
How far into the game am I?
I want to try Nocturne before the semester break's over.
I liked it if only from the "What the fuck" reaction it gave me.
It was more interesting than the
Neutral ending, honestly. That was really sudden and abrupt and it kinda annoyed me.
They're going to make you adore Asahi and then force you to kill her in one of the routes. I say one instead of all because it's pretty obvious she's supposed to be the Heroine in this game
How is MT2 compared to MT1? I'm playing KMT right now and I'm almost finished with MT1. It's pretty cool for a game as old as it is but it's not very exciting. I hear MT2 is more like the SMT I know?
I play Persona 4 for the visual novel elements. I only want to feel good with virtual friends in a comfortable atmosphere. Shin Megami Tensei and Persona 1 2 are unappealing to me as they are too hardcore, with their RPG dungeon-crawling. Plus, my beloved waifu Chie only exists within the Persona universe. You are free to enjoy SMT - but I think I'lll stick to Persona.
>Persona 1 2 are unappealing to me as they are too hardcore
>feel good with virtual friends
>Has Chie for waifu
Toppest of shit taste.
Why don't you play a real Shin Megoomy Tensay game, like Nocturne or Strange Journey? Persona is a casualized dating sim that appeals to lonely waifufags.
>those awful, confusing and downright shitty dungeon designs
I'm not a big fan of the random dungeons in P3 and P4 but those are infinitely better than P2's dungeons.
Is SMT1 supposed to be retarded easy and annoying?
>Fight Boss whose's level is 40 times yours.
>Heroine uses Zionga
>Boss is shocked
>Take one step
>Fight a crowd of 5 enemies
>Another crowd appears
>Another crowd appears
>all these newfags who reply unironically
MT2 is the rough draft SMT2's plot. It's retarded, but in a charming way. I felt that the game design and balance weren't quite as good as MT1, but it was still reasonably fun. If nothing else, at least for the brain damaged protagonist is pretty funny.
