It's great. Grab a couple mods to beef up the gameplay and graphics if you will (Quality of life stuff, really) and enjoy.

Speech checks are important this time around thanks to smart writing. Stats and such influence some checks too.

the start is a bit slow but its a fantastic game

Personally I prefer 3. The soundtrack was better and the desert landscape felt too bland. There's only so many times I can see the same sand texture and the same exact tree copy pasted before exploring gets boring.

New Vegas weakened the Fallout brand, the problem was that 4 wasn't considered as groundbreaking because everyone had already played NV just a few years before so a new Fallout setting wasn't as fresh or original as it would've been if a spinoff wasn't already using the majority of the same weapons and enemies as 4.

Not really, 3 was bland, the colour pallete was horrible, geography and overall location placement was senseless and overall it's a mess.
NV had a desert setting, and, sure, everything is orange, but if you look at it, geographically it's very well done, enemy scaling works, there are virtually no boundaries but there is still a threat, all in all it's more built as an old cRPG and feels natural.

It has nothing to do with how good/bad your PC is.
Oblivion, F3, FNV, Skyrim, F4 (and maybe morrowind) aren't made to go above 60fps. They become unstable.
If you're looking for performance boosters, get stutter remover, use NVAC to greatly improve stability, and use a 4gb enabler. All can be found on the nexus.

Decided to look up DUST. It sounds really interesting and a fun side game in itself but I might try it last. It looks neat but removing the all characters and story is like removing what made the game so damn great. It also seems to be mostly gunplay focused, which on New Vegas aiming and combat isn't a huge turn on. Do other gameplay mods work alongside it or is the combat also redone?

Compatibility with mods is spotty at best. Get a mod manager (which you'll need anyway), and put DUST last in your load order. That means that DUST's changes will overwrite all other mods, reducing the likelihood of things going wrong. DUST should be treated as a game in itself - only install it when you intend on playing it, and when you want to go back to NV, uninstall it completely.
DUST's page on the nexus has a handful of mods recommended by the author, they should be a good starting point.
Also, remember that 'incompatible' doesn't necessarily equal crash, it's just that things might not work as intended. DUST is fairly buggy to being with, so it's not like you're going to get a quality, bug-free playthrough anyway.

Vsync causes a shitload of mouse latency in New Vegas. You're better off disabling it and locking your framerate at 60 with something like RTSS. Try it for yourself if you don't believe me, you'll notice the difference immediately when you move your mouse cursor on the main menu.

I tried my best to play fallout 4 with mods the other day, even thinking of it as a linear open world shooter like far cry, but I had to force myself to play 4 hours before quitting. NV is my personal favorite fallout.

As for Infinite, GTA IV, and Halo 5, Bioshock 2 without DLC is the worst, GTA IV is above the first two and Vice City in my opinion, and 5's multiplayer is just as good as any of the multiplayer components from across the series in my opinion. Single player is ass tho

Yeah it's great. Played through it many times and have probably over 200 hours in the game. It's got some hampering issues and most of the DLC is bad, but overall the game is well worth the price of admission.

That being said the game came out 7 years ago. Everything about it has been discussed to death on this website, and the daily threads about the game have been stale and boring for about 5 years now.

The reason why this game is discussed so much is for two reasons, firstly because there's not really a proper successor to it as Fallout 4 felt to different and so people are stuck with New Vegas and secondly because the ending is left ambiguous and people feel more freely to talk which faction they prefer, just like how there are people now who still talk whenether the Stormcloaks or the Imperials are better in Skyrim.

Is the Hitman animations mod only for regular guns or does it change energy weapons too?

Why does everyone bash fallout 3 in these threads? I think NV is the best game in the series, but I had a lot of fun with 3 as a teen and while it had only one worthwhile dlc in point lookout it was good for its time. It was goty and actuallly a real RPG. Doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the shoot and loot scam that was 4 just because it didn't age as well as NV.
