Just saw the WHM tooltips, and I'm fucking devastated. They're ALL shit. They took stoneskin, and replaced it with a shield that requires a lily, and only has a 15 sec duration. So basically, in order to guarantee that you shield the person you want to, you have to pre-cast cure II, then use DB. So it's basically the same damn thing as using stoneskin from before, but uses more MP.

Don't even get me fucking started on the confession mechanic. Our level 70 skill sucks so much shit I'm ashamed. I'm trying to calm down, but this is breaking me

Samurai is not as strong as their large potency numbers would have you believe. Unless their job_mod value is ludicrously high, they're actually quite well in line with Monks. They have higher weaponskill/oGCD potency throughput, but Monks have better persistent damage buffs, making up the difference in auto attacks and through the very minor group buff via Brotherhood.

Assuming a Monk can keep GL3 going, they're pretty much even.

However, that's strictly on paper in an environment discounting variables like teamwork. Monk's damage is consistent, no controllable spiking really at all aside from their opener - Samurai can output thousands of potency in the span of 10s, they might be more useful than Monks to a party purely for their burst aligning well with Trick Attack/Embolden/Battle Littany/Chain Strategem.

Essentially both put on a 3minute period ignoring AA, Samurai there outputs 257 potency per second, Monk throws 240 (assuming 4 relevant party members for Brotherhood Chara generation). Monk has a very high persistent damage modifier though, given Fists of Fire, GL3, Twin Snakes, and Dragon Kick, while Samurai has their own, but they don't add up as much. Elixir Field also just puts out more damage than Guren, in all situations.

Originally I was additive when compiling damage_mod stuff and that was drawing monk up short, but then I realized damage mod is calculated multiplicatively, and that shored up the gap a lot more. I do assume GL is additive though, as it's one buff - GL1 is 10, GL2 is 20, GL3 is 30, rather than assuming it's 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 which is 1.331 rather than 1.3.

Throw in the rest of the party getting Brotherhood (about a 0.8% gain overall) and auto attacks being more powerful for monk, and you end up at roughly the same overall, if not a little in favor of monk. But hey, like I said, burst phases are important and definitely favor Samurai.

I just don't understand why all the other SMN are bitching. We finally get a big full summon that does damage before disappearing like how a summon works in every other FF, and it's fucking Bahamut itself of all of them, and they still complain.
Sure, spreading dots with Bane now sucks, but we still have enough AoE abilities with Painflare, Deathflare, and even Ahk Morn from Bahamut now.

Stormblood battle plan:
Start with one run of RDM and SAM in potd, if fun, stick with one all the way to the end of stormblood. If I don't enjoy them go with AST through the story and if the queue times are horrible for healers as well then I'll level a tank for those sweet sweet queue times. Since the first tomestones are uncapped, I don't wanna sit in queues for half of my playtime

Only thing I'm afraid of is the 60 to 61 grind without the mainstory exp
