Mass Effect is a flaming pile of shit and I'll have no more part of it, especially when they're hiring racists.

I won't even pirate Andromeda, because I feel 0 dollars is too much to ask for a game made by such a hateful person. Talk to me when they're gonna give me money to play the game and maybe I'll give it a shot.

It's such a shame because I really liked the first one.

Yea most of the talent bled out overtime or got worse in their standards of writing. Both ME and DA:O had a few years of dev time to polish things if I remember right. I know the original DA team (who could pump out a perfectly decent and fun rpg) got replaced by the arrogant new kids that wrote DA 2 in like a third of the dev time of DA1.

EA doesnt manage their series for narrative polish. They care about numbers and efficiency. Old Bioware was never really efficient (their games typically had oblong dev times). It's two years or bust and development starts immediately after the release.

That's usually enough to kill creativity.
>>
>>363339241
>I'm more concerned about the current writing staff.

Don't be, the new writing staff will make sure to create a game free of concerns, a safe-space, if you will :^)

It's a shame.
Old Bioware was worth the wait, managed to deliver on some decent plots and lore.
Even managed to make me care about my party enough to want to talk to them all at camp or where ever we were in between killing things.

>>363339926
But aren't narratives that are devoid of conflict, be it interpersonal, a conflict of ideology etc. incredibly boring?
>>
So /v/ who else is going to buy the Deluxe Edition?
>>
>>363340559
it will turn out that they are distant cousins of the collectors, both branched off from a "main race" of superevil beings with great power/technology who will become the primary villains in a later game
>>
>My prediction

Much like DA:I it will release to critical praise and end up somewhere on a game of the year list. Bioware is a critical darling who has a very 'hip' view of things and was seen as the underdog for the longest time compared to jrpgs. I dont expect to see any major critques of Bioware's story telling or design, especially not from mainstream critics. On /v/ there will be endless shitposting and jokes made during the release week. After the hype dies down people will ready for the next big game. Fans of the ME series will say it's "good" like they said for the last three games. On /v/ you'll have the apologists show up at the end of the month talking about how it's a better game than Inquisition or ME3. The ME general (which is at it's like 10k thread) will have new waifu material to endless post.

I think we'll need another six bioware games because popular opinion turns against it and it becomes the Square-Enix of the future.

I doubt it, DA:I only managed to get GOTY because 2014 was a terrible year for gaming.

Now 2017 Andromeda will be against heavy hitters like Red Dead Redemption 2 and the new Zelda, if it is as mediocre as Inquisition it will get wiped off the floor.

I know exactly how you feel.

Bioware pissed me off so badly with what they did to this series but I can't stop loving it. I just have too many good memories from the series that are the only beacons of life in my shitty, dark life. I remember playing ME2 on my 26th birthday and feeling depressed about being a friendless, jobless virgin but cheering up instantly when I finished Tali's romance. I remember the hype of ME3 being the only thing keeping me going on some of my darkest days. I remember spending hundreds of hours making the PERFECT Shepard and making the PERFECT choices in ME1 and ME2 in preparation. I remember the horrible disappointment of ME3 and literally shedding tears when I saw what they did with Tali and the stock photo. I remember the pain being somewhat eased with the later DLC they released, which gave me hope for the future of the series. This series is the only thing that's kept me from just ending it all during the darkest moments of my life, and that hope that the series can once again be as good as it once was is the only thing that keeps me going even today because shit hasn't gotten better.

This probably sounds pathetic but I don't care. Mass Effect pretty much saved my life and I'm hoping Bioware can prove everyone wrong with Andromeda.

ME 3 was slapped together on a tight budget with limited time and limited creativity on hand. It is the epitome of shortcuts in artistic and story design.

Is this what they call stockholm syndrome? I never could be bothered to look up its exact nuances.

I am sort of in the same boat, I loved Halo. Then 343 got their hands on it. I had intense buyer's remorse, but went back for the MC collection. Don't do it, trust me, it is never worth it. Just pretend it's an entirely new dev team, get yourself into that mindset. You're currently thinking it's the lovable faceless dev team of Bioware, when you should be thinking of them as a bunch of interns masquerading around in bioware's flesh that EA stitched together when they cleared out anyone that knew anything about making good games. Don't support the skinwalker puppet, it's not what you think it is. It's not Mass Effect you're going to be playing, it's skinwalker trash wearing the corpse of Mass Effect.
>>
The premise is bullshit and everything that made franchise is stuck in the Milky Way.

They should have just declared destruction canon and produced a sequel set in a post reaper war milky way. Give it a small time skip and put it in the time frame when the relay network is about to be fixed.

There is tons of shit to do from reconnecting with council races to potential conflicts with levithans/reaper survivors that could lead us to their spot in dark space and maybe expand on their actual purpose (lets just write off the starchild as a last attempt to trick shepard)
>>
>>363344148
I hated every single game play change and it was a pretty big red flag with how dumbed down everything was compared to 1. I didn't touch a single Bioware game after ME2 and they haven't proven me wrong once.

Video games are an emerging medium and the hipster circle got really popular for a time. It was all about sticking to the man and showing that games can be unique and could be artistic.

Most of this is done by showing up to work looking like you came from hot-tropic. It's just a fashion fad, eventually it'll be regard as kinda douchey- especially when some new hype fad shows up to piss off to fedoras and dyed hair folks.

Game probably won't be that bad, will probably be passable and contain that bioware "charm" (glitches, odd animations, etc.). I just can't imagine how unappealing returning to the ME universe will be for many considering the ME3 debacle.

Everything with xp/levels/resources/quest rewards has skinner box gameplay after a fashion.

If you're rewarded for doing things then it's literally Skinner Box gameplay. That's what Skinner Boxes model.

What the gameplay really suffers from is a lack of good sound and visual effects. Every weapon fired and ability utilized lacks any real punch to it. The explosions that occur don't have any real dimension to them either. They just kind of peter out and wisp away. It's fucking infuriating that BioWare would come this far and neglect that.

Andromeda getting pushed to Q4 this year or Q1 of next year so they can polish it would be the best possible thing. As it stands it's going to suck a crooked mile of dick on release and, on the whole, be a solid 6/10. I just know it is. Hopefully the multiplayer will redeem it.

>What is his secret fellas?
He wrote funny movies/plays and the family situation is too messy for outsiders to judge. That's literally it.

It's arguably a form of cognitive dissonance, people want to laugh at his movie, they'd feel guilty because he's immoral. So they deny that he's immoral. I know, I agree with you anon, his writing shouldn't have anything to do with who he's fucking but that's people for you, they don't like to credit artists who are terrible people.

You see /pol/ do something similar with Trump, being unable to admit a flaw in the man because it would question their judgement in supporting him, so they end up denying really obvious stuff and descending into ad hominems.

The loli (Soon-Yi Previn) was in her teens, supposedly 'late teens' but who knows. Her adopted mother found nude polaroids that Woody Allen had taken. Woody Allen and Mia Farrow never got married, they were a de facto couple.

Woody and Soon-Yi are basically unrelated, she was adopted by Mia Farrow and her ex-husband. Woody Allen formally adopted some of Mia's children but only a couple. They adopted two more together. She adopted 10 children and gave birth to four, one might be Allen's or might be Sinatra's, she said that she 'never really broke up with him'. She was a bit of a head case. Some of her children said that she made them make false accusations against Woody Allen too.

So shit is really, really complicated in that whole family and it's best just not to get involved because who the fuck knows what is going on.

I'm still getting through the European revolutionary period.

I'm off on a spin in south America to end the Spanish Empire.

I've been through American history in the revolutionary and gilded age into the modern era (glided age is scary). I'm still looking for good sources on Native American histories, since that's my next zone of interest after the Turks.

I've already gone through Roman, Byzantine (they are two different, but similiar cultures to me). For Asia I followed the Khans and ended up following Japan for a while.

In Europe I'm still putting together the Medieval picture in my head, honestly it's kind of a clusterfuck.

I've been at it as a side project for five years and only got this far. That's why I feel like it's going to be a life goal. I still havent touched much Islamic history, and that looks like a sea to dive through.

>Is this what they call stockholm syndrome? I never could be bothered to look up its exact nuances.
No, it's just gratitude and hope I think. Maybe a touch of cognitive dissonance but mostly just hope. You could define hope as mental illness if you want but I think that it's kind of depressing to do so.

Stockholm Syndrome doesn't apply because ME was essentially a good period followed by a bad period, or if you prefer, one or two good game followed by one or two good games with bad endings. Whatever you think of them, they were relatively consistent.

The key criteria in Stockholm Syndrome is randomness. There is consistent cruelty over a period with brief random acts of kindness, it leaves the victim always hoping for more kindness and they focus on the kindness more than the cruelty because of the contrast and it being more notable.

Cognitive dissonance is different and a bit complicated but essentially involves someone wanting to believe something despite evidence against it so they become increasingly irrational when confronted with evidence contradicting their belief, and so treat the evidence as a test of faith and increase their belief in the thing instead of decreasing their belief as a rational person would do.

>I am rewarded for reading a book
The reward isn't contained in the book. Finding games rewarding isn't the Skinnerism, it's the rewards INSIDE the game that make you feel good and keep you playing it. Every DING, every 'YOU AM WINNER" etc.

Games give you those rewards to activate reward centres in your brain that provide feel-good neurotransmitters. It becomes mildly addictive.

MMOs are a weaponised form of it but almost all video games work on this principle and the ones that don't feel uninspiring because we're not getting a fix from them.

Kett out.
>>
>>363358837
The Arks were part of the Pathfinder program.
Basically you've been sent to find a place that's good for humanity to call home on Andromeda, and Earth 2.0.

The other species are much the same but for their own respective people, all council races have their own Ark.

Since I'm meant to be looking out for humanities interests I hope I can fuck-off all aliens.
Mission comes first.
>>
>>363358837
Story Reason: 4 Council Races sent Arks over to Andromeda Galaxy and a Citadel-like Nexus staffed with a mix of all races (why you see Krogan)

The Nexus was sent first.

Real Reason: Because fans would want Turians, Krogans, Asari and Salarians to come along if Humans are in Andromeda

People are split on Quarians.
>>
>>363359280
I'll say it again.

Instead of just Gray Rock, they should have made those parts Crystalline.
>>
>>363359572
The real reason behind the real reason is that they went to Andromeda because Bioware didn't want to deal with continuing the story after the fuck up of the ME3 endings, so they are sidestepping them instead.

As part of that they had to give a reason for council races being present.
>>
>be suspiciously silent about your game until only months before release
>only news about the game beforehand is about people leaving the game's development team
>fans you alienated with your previous game are resistant to any hype you try to generate for your new game
>dismiss your fans' concerns for being cautious despite you and the company that owns you demonstrating there's no reason for you to be trusted

This isn't a very good plan

>>363358837
Mass Effect: Andromeda is a soft-reboot, that's how bad ME was. That's why it's set in another galaxy. They're handwaving all of the logistical issues related to FTL drives with the ODSY drive system so suddenly species are capable of making the long trek to a different galaxy
>>
>>363359572
Correction.
>Real Reason: We couldn't think up more origional races for a new galaxy, so we reused the old ones.

cant wait play this game maeby pre order
>>
>>363359572
>Real Reason: Because fans would want Turians, Krogans, Asari and Salarians to come along if Humans are in Andromeda

No, the real reason is they are either too lazy or not creative enough ti come up with enough new races.

Come on man. You know fans would be upset if the Turians, Asari, and Krogans werent in the game. Im not saying Bioware isnt lazy, because they are, but likely the reason is to prevent obvious fan backlash

Even if the Krogran showing would be fucking retarded.
>>
>>363359870
Literally no one would care about a Mass Effect game that didn't have the classic races. Especially when Mr. Rockhead is the best the current design team could come up with in terms of new species.

I thought the explanation was good enough, they thought we couldn't handle the reapers so they sent a Noah's ark into another galaxy.

The timeline means they left before or around the same time as ME2, the Reapers weren't considered a threat by anyone until after ME2 ended.
>>

Fair enough but it feels cheap in a way.
Bearing in mind that everybody sleeps for 200+ years while they make the journey to Andromeda.

It just feels like a cop-out.

That's wrong. The only people who didn't consider them a threat were just pretending so that the masses wouldn't panic.

I like Andromeda's armor better because it's that vintage look that ME1 had. Only now it's actually high definition instead of blurry.

>>

Exactly. The endings were so bad they entirely prevent any exploration of the series after that point in time without doing what they're doing in Andromeda by going 2.5 million LYs and 600 years away.
>>
>>363361509
It's the video codec. The game looks better than any ME before because they finally got rid of the shit 15 year old engine.

You know there is going to be that one special snowflake quarian who somehow made it to the Andromeda, maybe she snuck up on the ship or something.

Also, she has a bootleg comic relief geth with her that she built, that's her gimmick.
>>
>>363361724
I'm sorry, it doesn't look better than any other Mass Effect.
The art direction is awful, it just looks like shit. This is extremely saddening and I have no idea what the hell happened to destroy Bioware to that degree.

From a technical point of view Andromeda is better (switch to Frostbite from UE3 and resulting improvements in shaders and shit), but I agree with you that the art style has turned into generic future that is totally divorced from the Syd Mead style the other games had.
>>
>>363341821
Halo was a good trilogy that attracted dude-bro culture. It is a great and well made series in Bungies hands, hiccups here and there, but it's just the context of the time when they came out that hurts them.

It's like the popular kid on the block and everyone was pissing themselves trying to appease and one up him

It was always a Prothean, but apparently the guy who designed the collectors didn't notice the massive fucking statues on Ilos and made them look like bugs. So when they made the Prothean for ME3, they had to design it off of the Collectors otherwise they would have to think of some reason to explain why the Protheans didn't look like the Collectors who are protheans. i.e. laziness
