Although I will say that that's the first time I've seen anything of the sort in the fan translation. So far, I've noticed the translation quality seems noticeably worse for IK than Nohr or Hoshido. I'm guessing they rushed it out, judging by how they claim another patch is coming soon to fix various errors in the translation.

The map doesnt function like SS/Awakening. There's a list of options you can do and it just takes you to wherever they're available. Nohr is the only route that doesnt have map grinding missions so the only options it ever has are Story, Child Paralogues when available, DLC gate, difficulty lowering and a Castle Defense mission that only show up 3 times over the whole campaign. The other 2 usually have like 4-8 extra battles available on top of the stuff listed there.

The menu sounds are either identical or not noticeably different from Awakening for the most part. The music on the whole though is really nice though. One of the main reasons I can tolerate IK is that it has music from both sides as well as a super comfy track that plays in one of my favorite kind of vidya fantasy settings. Nohr is hard for two reasons.

1. No grinding. You can't farm random encounters for money and EXP unless you buy the DLC like a bitch.

2. Level design. The maps have actual thought and challenge put into them. You have to think and accurately asses your resources in the Nohr route. In Hoshido, you can get by using whoever you want because there's no real thought or difficulty put into the maps. It's just "Kill everything till it dies"

I generally end up using 3 kids give or take since some are just straight upgrades to their parents.

The weakest link in Fates is actually the characters.

You can see by the popularity polls.

The majority of the Hoshido and Nohr characters just aren't popular because they're so bland and flavorless. Generic "nice" hero characters.

The popular ones are the royals, and the characters with actual flaws/a tiny shard of depth like Zero, Charolette, Oboro and Joker.

These aren't deep characters at all, but they stand out in comparison to their peers who are cardboard cut outs.

You literally get two-shot or surrounded randomly on most levels, and unless you farm for hours or only throw your strongest characters at enemies you will die constantly. Trying to recruit buckethead was the worst since he died in a hit, paired up he died in two hits, and you constantly get surrounded and have a turn limit. There's also that mission where you get the healer on the horse and the mage right next to each other and you have to save them while 10+ Wyverns decent upon you on the second turn and they're surrounded by 5+ enemies.

I do not understand how you find these easy, FE7 and Sacred Stones were piss easy compared to this.

FE7 is better. FE8 has too many monster enemies, so you don't have to pay as much attention to the weapon triangle. FE7 was the high point of the series in terms of balanced tactical scenarios. I feel that the special abilities in most of the other games just make it more RNG than actual tactics.

Despite the memeing, the beginning of Awakening Hard can be a little difficult.

In the beginning, enemies CAN 2-shot you if you aren't careful and because the maps are wide open as fuck you can't abuse choke point strategies so if you aren't being attentive you can get surrounded and butt fucked.

It's only the beginning of Awakening hard that's difficult though, because that's when your units are still squishy.

I second this. Lunatic/hard mode is quite fun from chapter 1~5 because of limited option. But then flood gates open for endless grinding and weapons to abuse that the balance of the game deteriorates. You have to impose constraints on yourself so that the game doesn't make you cheese through it.

Honestly, Awakening kinda sucks.
I started hard mode recently, I have about 6 chapters left?

Its so fucking boring. Skills are boring, the classes are uninteresting, the characters are all weird tropes. The story is so uninteresting, bordering on FF12s plot. The game is incredibly easy past the first few chapters, and their 'idea' of hard is basically just bad RNG as has nothing to do with skill or tactic, since the game hardly requires any strategy; it comes down to funneling enemies into meat grinders that wipe out armys.

Why are the barracks a huge waste of time?
Why is there so much DLC?
Why is the writing so bad?

I want to like it so maybe I can find some interest in #FE and MAYBE the new 3DS game, but the 3DS titles are just loved by people with shit taste, as I see the same people recommending Yokai Watch and such.

I just don't get it, even Disgaea was more enjoyable.

The fan translation started in the summer because they wanted to beat the treehouse. That was always their intention, to be "first".

The project was about to die completely in the Fall with the starting semester until it gained sudden momentum from the censorship/meme awareness going on in the nintendrone community thanks to the Fatal Frame controversy. This gave them the drive to keep the project going under the false pretense that it was a noble effort for the anti-censorship fans.

Skip to now, where they release a shoddy, non-proofread, non-playtested patch just for the sake of having the last route translated in some form be it by expert or Google Translate before the Treehouse could beat them to the punch, just so they could say that they beat them.

Are you new to the series? It depends. Roy has the potential to be 1/4 if you take Ninian to be his "canon" mother but as his father, Eliwood, has three marriage choices and none of them are explicitly said to be Roy's mother in either game, it's up in the air. Most people put them together though and the game kind of hits you over the head with the pairing. In 9/10 the tacitcian character who isn't a self insert is half-dragon.
