Media took the bait and shilled against them. Since their job is to make money, for which they need a clear brand, that's a sensible move. A damaged brand costs in the long run far more than the sales of one small title would bring in.

Hence, they pulled the game soon after it was submitted. Now people seem to be under the impression that Valve ever had anything but making money in mind, and call censorship, instead of complaining about those that caused it in the first press (the media, using their publishing power) or organizing a counter campaign (to negate the power of the media, put them in their place and signal Valve that their userbase is more dangerous to their brand and income than the media).

In short,
