It actually was pretty tame. There wasn't all that much gore, and when there was, in 90% it was monsters who got their guts spilled.
Try Angel Cop, Genocyber or Apocalypse Zero.
PG's MGR team would be the best people to do a Guyver game. It's sucks that Guyver is so unknown.I would love to see Gigantic and Gigantic Dark cutting Zoanoids to pieces.
Now that we're talking about ultra violent anime, what's the sauce on this?
>There will never be Guyver or Kamen Rider vidya
>not Genocyber, Angel Cop, Wicked City, or Devil Man/Violence Jack
>mfw the second one opens up with kid's getting instagibbed by helicopters
Doesn't really matter in the end. The plot of the anime is literally there just as an excuse for all the gore.
Probably. Manga's dub was really bad anyway. It was one of their typical "LETS ADD A SHITLOAD OF SWEARING FOR NO REASON" dubs.
The only fucking thing that stopped me from buying their Devilman OVA release. The OVA is fanfuckingtastic, but they fucked up and only included the dub on their DVD.
Dead Space 2, mostly for the death scenes.
I was just curious. Would be hard to justify a gory slaughter other than the motives purely being "hurr im evul".
That's some neat animation, though. They don't make them like that anymore. Or do they?
I don't watch anime.
I really wonder how The Evil Within's deaths are going to be. The game is getting censored in Japan specifically because of them.
Not on TV, you wouldn't see it on TV back then either. OVAs usually have a much higher budget.
As far as gore goes, hotline miami has it in spades. The whole thing is 80s gore movie the game, complete with eyebleed.
there's also blood, which is probably the only game I can think of where everything is gore.
For school there's dark seid 1 and 2, hopkins FBI, I have no mouth.
This has a good selection of ye olde visual novels, some of which go past guro and straight into slasher.
I don't know how gorey manhunt is, but its supposed to be mature gaming for mature people
Left 4 dead 2 has a pretty good gore engine, killing floor 2 is supposed to have the gore engine crafted so that you can do raiden style slashing on everything. Dead Rising 2 had a fun amount of gore
There's brainbread, a probably dead HL zombie mod that had its own gore engine, and being made by germans, had it where blowing off zombies head caused a literal explosion of blood everywhere.
Its not as graphic as ninja scrolls or mad bull 34, Its nice and icky, but not gore to end gore
So was no more heroes and killer 7, japs censor a lot of things
He's basically a crazy scientist who wanted to combine two siblings with ridiculous psychic abilities into one being. One of them had a crippled body, and the other had an animal's mind. The guy with the glasses was an investigator, so pretty much a loose end. He fuses them and then all hell breaks loose.
Much love. A new tracker is always appreciated.
Alot of the blood was just blacked out and fancy colors, much like Dangan Ronpa
Although for Dangan Ronpa I thought it worked out because it fit the game's stylistic SAW-like executions
You kinda got me hard right now. You finish me off?
I never played manhunt, but a friend linked this to me recently.
Its old, but I would imagine if it were made current gen it would catch so much shit.
How many games can you go on a flat out massacre in?
Problem with Dead Space is that the dismemberment is too quick and clean. They're always lopped or broken off quickly and from the same spots. It needs deaths where the characters' body parts are slowly ripped off and maybe have some deaths with organs spilling out. You know, that kind of shit.
How weird, that actually directly contradicts with the canon.
Even though Raiden had white blood in MGS4, that was because it was a different type of blood that was used to regenerate Raiden's health, it worked fast in repairing the body's structure. It also required health canisters to store it in his body, thus slowing Raiden down. So Docktor took the liberty of removing the storage containers in the new body, and used the "good enough" red blood to make sure Raiden was lighter on his feet, effectively making him a quicker killing machine.
So, for the sake of censorship, they fucked with the canon, pretty funny. At least it's not a vital plot point.
This mamajamma right here, you get enemies that piss themselves out of fright before they get their limbs hacked off, decapitated, or bisected.
Fatal Frame could be really gory if they put on screen what actually happens in the backstories.
Rope Ritual sacrifice in 1 involved tying ropes to a shrine maiden's limbs and neck and pulling until they were all torn off simultaneously.
Failed shrine maidens in 3 would be skinned alive after being old style tattooed all over their body and their skins displayed in a room.
Even Berserk got a couple of shitty cashgrabs, why not Guyver, considering it's far more popular and not dead?
I dunno, every normalfag and his dog in my neighborhood knows Guyver, and not only by movies, but only animufags know berserk, and even acknowledges that despite how good it is, shit's plain dead.
Every fucking one wants a guyver vidya.
"Get lost. You wouldn't recognize a goddamn vampire if one jumped up and bit you on the end of your fucking dick. Now get off my back." Same VA
Nigga look at this craftsmanship, this isn't a fucking GI Joe or a Transformer, this is for display purposes.
>There will never be a Guyver 3 where David Hayter plays a grizzled old Sean Barker going to battle one last time with the Zoanoids and Chronos for the fate of mankind
I'd understand if you could order real-size one and put it into your backyard or some shit.
You know like one of those knight armor sets.
How in the hell did a low budget American tokusatsu craft such a goddamn gorgeous suit? Even the monsters looked awesome. They even got Sakamoto to choreograph too. I mean really there are actual Japanese shows that are inferior to Dark Hero in these respects.
This post of yours was vital to the thread since it'll get guaranteed replies and bump it much more. Thank you.
Sure, GTA has violent themes, but I think people ITT are talking about actual, explicit gore. Like, brains, and entrails and shit.
>According to David Hayter, he pitched an outline for a Guyver III to Steve Wang but the rights to The Guyver reverted to its original owners in Japan.
What would be the perfect guyver game? For me, I'd definitely want it action oriented, and third person. Possibly semi-open world with chapters. A Cronos campaign option would be neat as well, to me it would be way too much fun to be able to mess around and possibly creature your own zoanoid variants.
jesus that sideways sawing with the barbed wire throttle
Soldier of Fortune was pretty explicit.
Oh, and not quite related, but something that always makes me squirm is the violence in that Animatrix short. You know the one.
the guy getting ripped out of the mech
I guess you could say she is a woman of
>Never get to rip zoanoids apart with your hands
>Never get to use HF swords on your elbows
>Never get your control medal ripped out and turned into a tentacle monster
Life is pain
You know, I'd like to have something from early-mid 2000s.
>3d person, but not over the shoulder, you're in the fucking middle of the screen
>no hub areas or open world, just straight up levels with bosses at the end
>levels mixed with light platforming and finding your way out of maze-like environments, think jedi knight games or oni
>no qtes, no puzzles, no shit
>no exp, no levels, no upgrades, no shit. You get new one ability after each level.
>you can both fight hand-to-hand and pickup weapons both melee and firerms. Firearms has limited ammo, melee weapons break after certain amount of usage
>combat is combo-based but without silly juggling and over-the-top moves. There are throws and grapples
>you can turn armor off to sneak past enemies, fit in tight places to find secrets, all is optional
>secrets contain non-gameplay goodies, like artwork, interviews and shit
>new game+ with different characters with different movesets
That's tough. They're both really good in their own ways. The 2005 series is probably better since it explains more and is closer to the manga. I can't really be too objective since I have total nostalgia goggles for the OVA
They're genetically engineered weapons, have the ability to shift from human to monster, and also are designed to melt/self destruct when they die to leave no evidence. Also, japs tend to exaggerate or otherwise mess up with those kind of stats.
FUCK AND PISS!
Thank you sir. My night is made. I wish many sloppy blowjobs upon you.
it really sucks that violence is so lacking in videogames today
the 90s really killed a lot of the more intense stuff and virtually all the heavy Gore, I mean sure there are violent themes, but its not nearly the same as it used to be, its largely just action.
now sexual themes are slowly falling by the wayside as well since the concerned mothers of the 90s have passed the torch to the whiny social justice groups pushing for changes in video game sexual portrayal
because lesbians are 'offensive'
women don't want to see Lesbians, they want to fantasize about handsome gay steryotypes making innuendo towards one another
everything needs to become bland and inoffensive like the life of an American Liberal
Hey man, I loved Fear Effect, but it's two games compared to how many?
99% of lesbian stuff in vidya is either "WE'RE STRONGLY HINTING BUT ADMITTING IT WOULD BE NAUGHTY TEE-HEE", or with bisexual characters in WRPGs, which I really don't mind and I'd take more of that over the endless hinting and teasing without outright saying it.
Gears of War I think was the last major franchise sticking to the classic shooter style (though with modern cover shooting)
World at War tried but it was abandoned immediately after it
even GTA has changed a lot
Dude, Golden Boy dub's the best dub next to Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist.
Do you even study, holy shit.
yea its pretty cool, definitely worth to play
There are Kamen Rider games. They're just a bit mediocre. At least we've got Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2
I'll never understand why Godai didn't just stay in purple form all the time. He was invincible. I've watched up until episode 20 and best fight up until now has been against the grasshopper gurongi (when he learns how to use spirit of water)
You know, as a hardcore fan of Drakengard, I find it difficult to recommend to people, particularly casual gamers. The core repetitive gameplay and grinding have not changed since the first iteration. If you're a no-life autist like myself, it's fine. However, if it is purely the visuals and story pulling you in, just watch the cutscenes on jewtube and read up on the lore.
Also, that final "Boss Battle" is pure bullshit.
Ah, but anon, that's just it.
The vast majority of lesbians in love are not cute.
Couples like in fear affect are mainly fantasy.
Here are some elves.
Oh thank god im not the only one who knew about guyver.
I think we are all forgetting the music.
>Not watching Kamen Rider
Because games are such an amazing medium to reflect the crushing tedium and disappointment of real life, yeah?
It's ALL idealized, just like TV and just like movies. Why is one okay but another not?
Also lesbians where I live look amazing.
>Mfw it turns out Kaito is actually a tactical genius when Kouta's not around
>Single-handedly figures out how to stop the soul-draining machine
>Immediately goes for Murdermelon's Driver
Yeah unlike mature video games like call of duty which are totally not toys.
Video games are toys. This does not make them bad or lower them. In fact some of the most beautiful art I've laid my eyes on has been very old hand crafted toys. Not to say video games are art innately. But they may and often do contain art.
If you could be like guyver, would you?
Anyone else getting the Guyver Figma?
Games are games dude, board or role playing or vidya, or whatever, not "toys" in a narrow meaning.
Theoretically you can widely call anything a toy. A car, politics, space program, social life, prezidency, video games, but in a narrow, common sense those aren't toys.
>New one is bready good
>lots if super hyper violence
>metal soundtrack with lots of great new and old thrash, black, and industrial metal songs
>newest one comes with all the old games bundled in
Fucking get it m8
My bad, guess I was too sensitive.
I really loved this game, and it's one of those games where when you read the reviews you can immediately tell they never played past the first one or two levels. Besides that, it has all three original Splatterhouses, $20 for that alone is unbeatable.
Are you me? I remember my dad would go to the Title Wave and rent whatever the latest imports were. In retrospect, I may have been pretty young. Funnily enough, I don't remember being weirded outas a kid by Guyver nearly as much as I was by the end of Akira.
I KNEW IT
Nope. I am not you. It was more like my father had Guyver on VHS and I watched them with him. Then we bought them on dvd and watched them, and then my dad and I watched the 2005 anime.
My only question is did Guyver ever finish? Cause I was left at cliff hangers in the old anime and the new one. I never read the manga.
Only two mentions of Hotline Miami
Original OVA series was a 12 parter. There was a new 26 episode OVA which apparently is more in line with the manga than the 12 part OVA. The manga is actually still ongoing which is rather impressive.
What's the cigarette for?
My grandpa and I watched Predator, Aliens and Guyver together often when I was a child. Guyver was great except for when Shawn lost the control module. Him being regrown scared me big time. CLones in general do that. That wasn't the same Shawn, just a new one with the same memories. That shit scares me.
So, are there any anime or video games with shocking gratuitous violence on a main character? I mean yeah, seeing someone's head burst open into a million pieces is pretty nuts but if I don't have an emotional attachment to the character it's just another body bag
+ for being a great game in a dead genre
Holy fuck. I had no idea. This was in the Manga right? Not the anime? Cause i'm pretty sure I saw all of the anime.
Nice. Yeah the whole control metal thing was weird as fuck, but awesome.
Playing this shit as an 11 year old was probably not a good idea but it was goddamn awesome
I think it ends just as Sho acquires the Guyver Gigantic form. You can read the manga at http://www.japan-legend.com/ but you'll only be able to read up to as far as they publicly released the scans. There is more but I guess they're pretty mad at other manga sites stealing their stuff or something so only release their scans in private to people who buy the books.
still the best thing Hayter's ever done
When I was 7 I would fantasize about being a guyver so I could join the power rangers. It would've been sweet.
>Plating it uncensored for the first time.
Over the course of seven years, each of the particles in your system replace themselves at one point, whether by irrigation, regeneration, or actual replacement, like with skin.
If you want the full Angel Cop experience, try to get onto Asian DVD Club, the version they have is the one with the original Jewish conspiracy plot intact, unless someone wants to tell me how to rip subs from an .iso
Oh god I never knew that the manga was still going. Now I have to worry about this and Berserk at the same time.
I remember a while back, no telling how long, I ended up in a thread about cloning and this was brought up. While it's true, like you say, it's over time and not all at once. It's the thought of literally dying, not existing and all of you being regenerated at once that invokes the fear.
If I were to be burned alive and then a clone of me were produced, that would not be "me." However, as I am constantly regenerating while alive, I will always be me.
>the fight against Poseidon
Best QTE in vidya history.
Actually nevermind, I stand corrected. Guyver has been going on since 1985 while Ippo has only been going on since 1989.
Holy shit i'm just a fraction older than the entire lifetime print series of the Guyver mangas.
Also, what's the name of that one anime with a bunch of random ass monsters killing people? I saw a deaths compilation and that one chick getting ripped in half by the legs made me cringe so hard.
And the blender hand dudes from it are in a 4chung banner.
If that makes it better,
at the end of the game the director who puts you through this and enjoys all the violence is a fat nerd sitting in his dark room at a computer, guess who that's supposed to be
That's not all there is to it. I always thought Manhunt had an awesome 80's slasher atmosphere to it, with it's John Carpenter inspired soundtrack, dark, derelict city and a bunch of other things. It's also pretty intense if you're playing without the radar, and the gunfights, something people criticize a lot, makes this game one of the first cover based shooter, and it's actually hard because you take 3 hits and you're out.
Does anyone else remember ep2 of the OVA near the beginning of their fight? When Guyver 2 does this flying kick, and Guyver 1 blocks it and pushes him away, but Guyver 2 flips around into this crazy throwing move.
That's my favorite bit of choreography in any anime.
Evangelion killed the VHS market in Japan.
Damn, anon, I think I love you.
>you will never play such a Guyver game
>you will never play a new 3D platformer/beat-em-up divided into stages because "muh cinematic experiences"
Devil manlady was translated so probably the other?
I grew up with birth and the demon bird, was really disheartening to find out how devilman went all post apocalypse after that.
Dark Sector was pretty violent and seemed to take inspiration from Guyver.
Warframe toned down the violence, however.
>video games are way more tame than ever, a lot of hollywood violence where enemies don't seem to feel pain and just fall over when killed
>animes are blacking out the violence on release
if if you don't want hyperviolence, theres no god damn reason hitting a dude in the chest with a rocket shouldn't turn him into mulch
Which is also highly influenced by Guyver.
they have headpop headshots though, those are kinda stale, especially when a low caliber weapon has the same effect as a high caliber one with a headshot
say what you will of TLOU, the headshot effects actually varied by the gun, pistols would just leave little entry/exit wounds, shotguns would remove part of the head or all of it
Fuck Dead Space. Fuck Dead Space from the depths of shit. Dead Space is the poster child of this decade for games that are trying to be gruesome but are flat out doing it wrong. You see this shit all the time. A character gets dismembered for shock value but it's all quick and fast. A slice here, a slice there, and a decapitation there to finish them off. If you really want to go for shock value, you need to take the Saving Private Ryan method. Which do you think is more horrifying? Slicing you head clean off killing you instantly or slowly but surely plunging a bayonette towards your heats, slowly pushing through your skin and working its way towards your vitals as you're completely aware of the blade piercing you? Trick question, you'd shit your pants in terror at the latter
Somehow, I'm glad the graphics are so shitty.
>tfw they fucked over Alex's character for no reason and turned him into a villain, leaving us to play as somebody else and kill him
Prototype 2, man.
Nah it's still pretty much an 80's(maybe 90's too) manga. The style of the artist is quite distinct at preserving itself.
Also quickly skimming through turns I was wrong in that she isn't actually Guyver II but rather a she's using an artificial control medalallion that was made from the data provided by Guyver II. And because it's artificial it doesn't bring her clothes back, very clever clause.
Dead to Rights Retribution was very brutal. Any game where you can forcibly grab niggers and throw them into and off of shit is always debonair.
Smod and Smod Redux
Shooting or kicking an enemy with enough force will make them explode into chunks
which you can eat for health
Smod Redux takes it further beyond with glorious streams of blood from headshots, pink mist, blood splatters that launch all across the room, etc
man, everyone shit all over Dark Sector, but I had so much fun with it.
It's flawed as fuck and the story is kind of meh AND the main character's face was just awful, but for what it was, I loved it.
Still not rebuying it for PC until it goes cheaper than a buck
Can't believe /v/ of all places finally kicked me into Guyver.
I've heard about it forever, but never took the initiative to watch.
Now I have all the series torrenting right now and I'll start from the very beginning hopefully tomorrow.
Two questions for you Guyver fans.
1. did any of the series gets dubbed? I prefer subbed, so it's no big deal, it would just be nice to know.
2. I'm doing what I did with Berserk and reading the manga AFTER I watch all the series, nobody is going to care that I'm doing that except purist autists, right?
Look at all those fucking animation frames and less exaggerated bodies
i fucking miss this style. i think it's terrible that style and animation actually regressed. It almost seems like it's not even possible to make anime look this appealing anymore.
What is the best animation series of all time? (In your view of course) I have been lo'\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
>1. did any of the series gets dubbed? I prefer subbed, so it's no big deal, it would just be nice to know.
Both the Guyver ova series and Tv series got dubbed.
>2. I'm doing what I did with Berserk and reading the manga AFTER I watch all the series, nobody is going to care that I'm doing that except purist autists, right?
The Ova series makes a lot of changes to the source.(Manga.) So it's not the best. However it's still fun 90s anime. So, it's definitely worth the watch. Especially since it's really bloody. The newer anime makes minor changes but it's less bloody. It also skips a lot of stuff. Mainly in the last couple of episodes. It's still quite enjoyable.
Anon are you okay
Is Guyver worth getting really into? I'm really interested in all the different Guyvers, but I've been told that the series doesn't really go anywhere.
I've seen the OVA, and read the manga up to Enzyme II. Is it worth going further?
a 1 episode OVA
two 6 episode OVAs
a 26 episode anime
and that's it.
Shouldn't take you any time at all to watch to judge for yourself.
Then if you love it like you will, you can start the manga.
I can't enjoy things like this anymore since it's been done so many times I always think that anon is just trying to get an le epig screencab.
I hate being so bitter all the time.
I mean is it worth reading beyond the OVA point?
Because the OVA was awesome, but, like I said, I have been told before that the manga doesn't go anywhere, and that translating groups have more or less given up on it at this point.
Ignore the haters, just do this so I don't have to link everything:
>go to nyaa
>type guyver in search bar
>organize by seeders
>google which series exist so you know which to download
They are poorly seeded too, so expect a few hours of downloading for the 26 episode series.
Manga is good, but it just takes forever for it to progress. It only recently got pretty interesting.
well this scene happened in an anime today. the manga is very gory, anime is still gory, though it is toned down.
I haven't had the chance to read terraformars, but Guyvers are very powerful. And the way Sho and Agito are now, There's very few things that could kill a Gigantic Guyver. If you read the manga you'll see just what they are capable of.
>Chronos make some giant zoanoids to fight Guyver in outer space too?
You have no idea.
This thread lasted several hours longer than I expected, but it is now time for bed.
To all you anons out there, even if you forget about this post tomorrow, for now I want you to know you're all awesome and great at what you do, no matter what it is. I love you and hope you have great lives filled with happiness and plenty of time to enjoy the things you like.
Take care, my Guyver and gore loving friends. Maybe one day we can all watch this stuff together!
These aren't bad, but they're still funny. If I remember the story correct, this show bombed hard, and when tasked to do the dubs they just said fuck it, and did their own thing. So yes, these are the actual dubs and not just edited.
>No MD geist video game where you fight kill bots, punks, mechs and giant cities
>You will never break out of space prison and then steer the space prison into the planet's atmosphere while it breaks up around you
>You will never be so dangerous you unleash giant kill bots on the world just because you want more things to kill
I still vividly remember Mahunt 1 having at least one mission based around the fat fuck who was wearing freshy-skinned pig hide, had a chainsaw and was into raping all that moves.
It was fun.
This is fucking amazing, they really didn't give a single fuck
everytime I see these clips, I'm impressed at how robust the costume designers made their costumes.
They grapple and punch and nothing falls off or seems to break
really good craftsmanship
They have multiple suits for different filming scenarios.
For fight scenes they use a more robust suit and usually a helmet with vision holes. For closeups or shots where the character isn't moving around a lot they use a cleaner, more detailed suit.
Sometimes it's a bit obvious when you see that their stunt suit has scuffing on the feet, or their stunt weapon is really worn, and then it cuts to a perfectly clean, crisp prop for a closeup.
So I know nothing of Kamen Rider. Well, we had a Kamen Rider dub here when I was a kid, but that's about it.
BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH ALL THAT ORANGE AND BANANA SHIT JESUS CHRIST HOW THE FUCK DO THEY EXPLAIN THAT
There exists an interdimensional, parasitic forest called Helheim and it has begun to encroach upon our dimension. The Yggdrasil company have been making preparations to combat the spread of the forest, one of which is developing the Sengoku/Genesis drivers, which use the fruit of the Helheim forest (in a modified form) to feed and transform the user.
Jin Roh had some ok gore in it. Nothing really 90s EXXXTREME but still pretty neat.
>no modern anime will ever look this good
Space Dandy has some pretty cool parts.
>so the pain fight is good?
Haven't seen any of it aside from those clips everyone posts.
As cartoony as those clips are, almost all of them are very well animated.
That said, I'm pretty sure I've seen less cartoony clips of the show that also had better animation.
>been with this thread since beginning
>expected mods to delete it within minutes because they don't like non-vidya related images with OP
>still alive 9 hours later
fluidity alone doesn't equal good animation
why do you guys not get that?
>can't explain why it's bad
>just says "naruto pain fight" over and over
I'm not the crazy one for thinking the animation looks bad right?
Watching /v/ trying to talk about anime is so cute.
This guy already answered to you before I managed.
>fluidity alone doesn't equal good animation
Might be just the webm, but its skipping frames and looks clunky to me.
Most important, its nothing special as it is. Rather than saying its shit, its just not as good as you praise it to be. It does it job convoying the right image/message, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it "good". Its just decent, passable.
>That final scene with the bike race
Man I gotta watch that again.
>fluidity alone doesn't equal good animation
>dismissing an aspect of good animation is the same as pointing out what's supposedly wrong with the animation
No. Nothing was already answered.
well, that quality is usually reserved for films but
Ghost in the shell
and two movies called Redline and Mindgame are all fairly recent and have that non uguu look you seem to be looking for.
Steve wong was actually in legal bullshit for a while, but he only just got the go ahead earlier this year that he could do something with the Guyver license.
David said he contacted Steve wong and told him that if he DOES make a 3rd movie, he'll gladly reprise his role.
Soldier of Fortune
GTA (yes i think beating an old woman to death with a katana is hyperviolent)
Serious Sam is basically Violence: The Game
The Last of Us is pretty violent at some spots
yeah thats it
Fuck, I just want more vidya inspired by this golden era of ultraviolent, super detailed anime.
I can't even watch most anime these days, it bores me to sleep, but all these webms and links ITT are really re-kindling that fire.
When I was younger, I remember playing Brain Dead 13. I was thinking "aww cartoony Halloween game" (which it kinda was), but man some of the shit that happens to main character if you fail the qte are pretty graphic. Cartoony, but damn. Special mention to :28, that one always made me wince (please ignore the cheesy resurrection scenes)
Woah, slow down matey, I was just stating I have a preference for older anime because new stuff bores me, don't have an aneurysm.
Ya know, I like the way Splatterhouse 2010 handled it.
Sure it had technique upgrades and QTE finishes on opponents, but those finishes were optional as you could just beat them to death.
Plenty of secrets to find, grapple system was OP but fucking awesome being able to literally rip foes limb from limb and then use said limb to smash another guy's skull in.
I like the idea of going hand-to-hand for the mostpart but pulling a MGR 'blade mode' with the pull of a trigger.
Have the energy bar be "Focus' since that's how you control the weapons and holding a different shoulder button activates different weapon systems.
>Blade-mode tier HFS mechanic complete with slowing of time
>Sniper tier system for the head beam complete with zoom
>rocket/grenade tier system for the pressure canon complete with charging ability that deflects incoming projectiles
>disabling/stun tier system for the sound cannon complete with the ability to outright kill weaker foes/expose weaknesses in stronger with a charged release
>hold-all-four-buttons-oh-shit-what-are-you-doing-you-only-get-one-shot-with-this-holy-fuck-we're-all-gonna-die tier system for the mega smasher complete with a cooldown timer (might be reserved for finishing off bosses, but is unlocked as an ability that drains all of your focus at once and needs to cool down but holy shit will it kill nearly anything)
>augment-mode tier system for the extra sensory eyes to see foes through walls
People complained about MGR's QTEs, but it didn't have very many. Cut red square and push button to gain HP and blade mode, push two buttons to instant kill a foe. Unless they mean the finishing of the bosses, but honestly, wasn't that fun?
I'm not trying to preach that MGR is the "best game ever", just trying to say that the system in that game is a pretty good match for what I'm looking for in a guyver game.
At first when I read you post I didn't understand what you were referring to so I looked up a JP playthough on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYvermYpniM&list=UUwlGWW2lKFxwJFsftMOnkfA
Sam is the only person who you fight in mgr who has red blood and not this white blood that everyone else has
The 2005 edition of the series was a slightly rewritten telling of the manga. The main difference being that guyver 2 wasn't killed off right away.
Amusingly, he said he killed off guyver 2 early because he didn't think people cared about his story, so he proceeded to shorten the story arcs. in the retelling, he lets guyver 2 live a lot longer and play more of the original role he wanted him to.
Watch the 2005 anime for a more true-to-manga story
Watch the 86 dub for a much more over the top slaughter fest and fantastic artwork pieces.
>all those mid action freeze frames where shit got royally fucked up
>the first time he uses the pressure cannon
>the first time he overcomes his fears of being the guyver to chase down the punks in the car
Gimme some of that shit for a Guyver game. Just this ONE fucking prick who shits on you and kills your friends or something through most of the game, and when you finally break his armor and throttle him in the boss battle, you get this wonderful long ass total body mutilating sequence that you can't actually lose.
>i got blades, lasers, and a vaporizing canon, but I'm just going to break your bones and kill you with my bare hands.
Jesus fuck this is awesome.
I knew the Guyver gigantic that was only about 8 feet tall was only using about 1% of it's possible abilities and could grow in size, but that's just excellent.
To combat evil fruit monsters, you must become a fruity samurai
Derp, I'm a fucking tard. Sorry, been jumping between franchises and had bamco on the brain, meant Tecmo Koei
Why does 80's/90's gore seem so much more violent?
I just had a look at this scene in the 2005 version and it's not like there's considerably less blood, it just doesn't seem as impactful.
>Satoshi Kon passed away four years ago in the month of august
80's and 90's manga and anime was just more violent back then.
You know how there's like some unwritten rule of not showing children being killed or blown apart in various forms of media? Genocyber just fucking shits all over that rule halfway through.
it had to do with presentation.
80/90's had the mindset of "lets SHOW you what happened" while more current directors are kinda going "you understand what happened, right? good."
Still, how he killed Gregole was pretty wicked in the remake with him smashing his skull instead of snapping his neck/turning on the faucet.
More efficient size to weight ratio. Remember they are just shifting from human form to zoanoid form so there is a limit. Besides Gregole is probably like 95% muscle at least.
