So, the DLC added, lore-wise, a living king Vendrick that you can visit through a memory.
Another fragment of Manus and an impaled poison dragon.
And who the fuck was the Sunken King
Alternatively, why was the dragon full of poison in the first place?
No one wants to talk about this, why would you even buy that shit after From promised they wouldn't do DLC? You're literally telling the video game industry that it's okay to lie to your customers when you buy that shit.
Yorgh was the one who stabbed the dragon, that's why it has a spear through his torso...
Now, the question is, how the fuck did Yorgh wounded the dragon that way.
And if Manus (as Elana) can summon a Vestalt golem... does that mean that the one we fight and- allegedly- protects vendrick is really working with Manus (nashandra)?
Or is From just lazy
Well, the soul we receive from Velstadt is conspicuously corrupted with Dark. Of course, whether that's because of Nashandra's meddling or simply because he was exposed to the Dark of the Undead Crypt is subject to debate.
What's clear is that Velstadt became subsumed by the Dark at some point over the course of his watching over Vendrick. I don't think he's in league with Nashandra/Elana, per se, but I do think it makes him subject to their manipulations from time to time (i.e. Elana is able to summon him).
some people say they are heralds.
One theory I read or maybe listened or whatever is that the player is sent from the future in the intro, that the CG cutscene happens years after the events of the game. and that the old lady that sends you back in time may be Shanalotte
There seems to be some kinship between creatures of the Dark and the ancient dragons. I don't think it was coincidence that Kalameet arrived in Oolacile around the same time it started sinking into the Abyss.
I would agree with you if the game felt unfinished in any way shape or form. The game is incredibly long and with the DLC it's even longer with all the shit you can do. With 2 more dlcs coming and the first one being incredible. I don't mind this shit AT ALL.
was it one of his videos?
Welp, they guy is good for making you notice things with his autistic level of area scanning. but the lore he ties together with said information is sketchy at best
>Mfw the only thing lacking DS2 is it's lore and story
>People are calling the game absolute dogshit because of this.
If you really think the game has shit gameplay or that "Infinite Stamina" bullshit is true, just end yourself. The game is still fucking great.
And I wore her clothes like a fool.
DS2 has lore, but seeing the struggle of a kingdom under the cycle is not as interesting as seeing the original perpetrators.
The more interesting things were Aldia and Shanallote's rue motives and goals and that was halfassedly explained
So far Vendrick Dialog gave us nothing new
Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne.
I am Vendrick, ruler of Drangleic.
Seeker of fire, deliverer of crowns.
What do you see in the flames?
Find the crowns, and your own answers.
The crowns hold the strength of lords from time long past.
Seek adversity, as befits you.
Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne.
I'm no king, I'm more fit to be a jester.
I was unaware of my own blindness.
We are feeble vessels, with feeble souls.
We will cast aside the prop of life, only to face greater hardship.
Are you another such fool? Or something more?
I fail to see your design, young moth.
I fail to see your design, wee moth.
But, I see very little, these days.
Continues here if player has the Crown of the Sunken King and the King's Crown.
Seeker of fire, conqueror of Dark.
I too sought fire once.
With fire, they say, a true king can harness the curse.
A lie, but I knew no better…
Seeker of fire, you know not the depth of Dark within you.
It grows deeper still, the more flame you covet.
Flame, oh, flame…
I am king of this wretched, unraveled kingdom.
I subdued the giants, and claimed their strength.
So that I might step closer to fire…
Drangleic will fall, The fire will fade, and the souls of old will reemerge.
With Dark unshackled, a curse will be upon us…
And men will take their true shape…
(last three lines repeated when spoken to again.)
If player attempts to attack Vendrick
>unused lines that may be spoilers for future DLC, although they still don't tell jack shit
Seeker of fire, I see you've subdued another foul creature.
One of the Father of the Abyss' spawn. That confounded quintessence of Humanity.
The abyss once had form, but then disappated. And yet traces of its existence endured.
Each fragment, thirsting for power, spread Dark with no relent.
My dead Shandra, was one such fragment.
The feeble, tiny thing that thirsted for power more than any other. Driven my unsatiable lust for a worthy vessel.
Fire came to be, and with it disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, light and dark.
Dark was seen as a curse. Shadow is not cast, but born of fire.
And the brighter the flame, the deeper the shadow.
Inherit fire, and harness the dark. Such is the calling of a true leader.
One day fire will fade, and dark will become a curse.
Men will be free from death, left to wander eternally.
Dark will again be ours, and in our true shape, we can bury the false legends of yore.
Only... is this our only choice?
Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne, seek strength. The rest will follow.
>They did it here so its okay here! Everyone does it so that mean its okay!
This site is fucking done. How has it gotten this bad? This site may have always been the asshole of the internet but atleast the users had integrity.
>fuck off back to reddit
I have and never will even look at that website for a single second. A person who wants this site to be a hugbox telling someone else to go that cesspit. That is rich.
>comes into a thread discussing lore with the sole purpose to argue and tell everyone that this game and this board is shit without contributing anything remotely relevant
anon, you have problems. I'm sure there is a reddit board you can go to that caters to people like you.
lmao xD you found out I'm a shill because I support something I like, how did you do it :( did Anonymous help you? Or are you a l33t hax0r :O?
They pay in internetz (I almost have five whole internetz!!!1) and you sign up at reddit!
You have to have brain problems or work the for the company in question to get this mad about someone talking about DLC acceptance being bad in general. Goddamn,
after the DLC I'm not so sure.
the Statues come from shulva, and we see he is obsessed with them.
He is as well a poison lover and the whole Shulva kingdom was built around a poisonous dragon.
Some dude that appears on the item descriptions, a magician of sorts. there is a huge pasta explaining why he could be the Rotten, there is another explaining why Pharros is the Rotten, so... yeah DaS lore...
This is got to be one intense bait or the biggest faggot I have ever seen
releasing cut content to PC gamers for free with Dark Souls 1 is not the same as planning 3 DLCs like two months after the game came out and still not fixing half the problems with it
also ds1 DLC is god among god tier its better than 80% of the main game
Says the person who comes into a thread to shit in it and not contribute anything useful. I'm just taking the piss out of you m8.
Back on track, are Vendrick and McDuff related at all? I just find it coincidental that they both say "Flame, dear flame..." in the same way and in the same accent.
>all this long pretentious bullshit that barely says anything
Yep, that's Dark Souls 2 writing alright. Without Miyzakai around they can't write for shit. Go back and play AotA and you'll realize it never was never like this originally. NPCs told you what they knew without making everything vague and pretentious for the sake of making vague and pretentious.
I wasnt even talking about From just the industry as a whole. Baiting the other two Fromdrones telling me to go back to reddit was just icing on the cake. Enjoy the rest of the thread~
Except it wasn't free dumb faggot, it cost money until they bundled it with the prepare to die edition, you would know this if you weren't playing souls games on PCs expecting your opinion to be taken seriously.
Didn't realise being a fan of a franchise makes you a drone these days, guess that's what this board has come to with the likes of you.
Damn, was hoping there was some relation. Is there anything lorewise related to the Shrine of Winter? Was hoping something would happen there with the DLC but nothing.
>it cost money until they bundled it with the prepare to die edition, you would know this if you weren't playing souls games on PCs expecting your opinion to be taken seriously.
ive been playing since demons but ok dude keep making yourself upset at nothing.
and yup the PC was always prepare to die so yup it was always free for PC
it would have been free for consoles too but they wont allow that to happen (see left 4 dead dlc for example)
calm down nigger
Except I have been playing since Demon Souls as well dumb fuck. So obviously the DLC wasn't free for consoles because it came out WAY before PC. You didn't even need to mention it, just know that your argument was invalidated.
You said the DLC was free like people who got it first didn't have to pay for it you incessant mongoloid. Implying that it was always free and should be for PC again, even though console is getting the DLC alongside with us this time and we don't have to wait a year to play the game. So stop backtracking faggot and start killing yourself.
I'm not even talking to him, he's clearly trolling or just angry because daddy touched his nono spot.
He's probably one of those hackers in DaS that took it upon themselves to curse and break all your equipment.
Acting like a retard for the sake of acting like a retard is not trolling. That word's definition has been bastardized.
And newfags (or shitposters-in-general) cannot stop responding to shitposters no matter how many times they are told to stop.
a character from game of thrones. don't worry about it.
she just has some very similar dialogue regarding fire and shadow.
You know i have been thinking recently.
In Dark Souls 1 the bonfires are fueled by Humanity, which is basicly the energy of the Abyss (Dark). The more humanity you spend on it. The stronger the bonefires become.
The bonfires are linked to the first flame. Which means the first flame is fueled by Dark/Humanity.
Now, if you look back at the intro of Dark Souls you see that after the first flame was lit, undead are awaking to approach it and touch the first flame. These undead are infact the human gods we see afterwards (Gwyn, Nito, the Witch), aswell as the Furtive Pygme who is the father of the normal humans.
Judging by some elements like the goddess of sin being feared even by the human gods, further indicates that there were gods before the first flame, most likely born from nature spirits and dragons.
So being undead is not a curse that befell humanity recently. It's a natural state for all human beings, which includes the gods, the great humans (Artorias, black knights and co.) and the small humans (the normal ones like the PCs).
However to lift the state of being undead one has to burn some humanity (energy of dark) on a bonfire. This is likely what happend when the gods touched the first flame. Their humanity which they naturaly absorbed was burned away turning them into living beings.
So it seems humanity/dark was part of the overall nature of the world before the first flame. So it's entirely possible that the Dragons themself fed on humanity from the Abyss.
Perhaps that's actualy why they were challenged by the gods. The gods needed the first flame to be human, but with the first flame burning away humanity from the Abyss, the dragons were robbed of their natural energy source. So they fought the gods.
Now that the first flame also became weaker the Abyss was finaly able to reach back into the world and as you pointed out. A dragon appeared to feed on it.
I've been thinking about this for awhile. I think the reason Velstadt's soul is darkened is deliberate, but so are the Watcher's and Defender's souls. And then, since Nashandra couldn't follow Vendrick into the Undead Crypt, why was Velstadt able to? Since the other two dlcs could possibly have more shards of Manus, perhaps the whole picture might become clearer (though chances are it won't)
I think being hollow is the true state of man. Where they have nothing but a mad drive to consume out souls.
>However to lift the state of being undead one has to burn some humanity (energy of dark) on a bonfire. This is likely what happend when the gods touched the first flame. Their humanity which they naturaly absorbed was burned away turning them into living beings.
This makes no sense. Why would they become living beings with the humanity burned away? It seems the OPPOSITE is true. When you have humanity in you you take on the human form.
If you burn humanity, it produces estus.
And forgot to say, while being hollow is the true state of man, I think the CURSE of infinitely being reborn after death is separate and not natural.
I subscribe to the "Gwyn made it" theory. As a means to get humans to nuke themselves like he did in order to prolong the age of fire indefinitely.
As long as people are cursed, they'll seek humanity, burn it at bonfires, absorb it, whatever. This is a way of keeping the dark at bay. If only a little. Until a powerful enough undead can sacrifice himself in a blaze of glory to keep the dark at bay. Once that happens, there's no need for undead and the curse is TEMPORARILY lifted.
I just love playing DSII because the influx of srcubs who look up builds that they have no clue how to use. And my all time favorite way of killing people is through guard breaks. Sure Havels greatsheild can damn near stop a train, but I'll just push it out of the way and stab you. And If I'm feeling like a huge prick I'll push it out of the way and use some shit like a great combustion or forbidden sun point blank.
I think it means that being unhollow requires humanity to be consumed like fuel.
Also "humanity" in Dark Souls is indicated to be something dark and terrible, it deforms humans and turns them into monsters, destroys the mind and destroys the soul of a living being.
Also you are in fact using up humanity, not absorbing it, to remove being hollow. The humanity counter indicates how much humanity your character has in him. If you turn him from hollow into living, one point of humanity is gone. Forever.
So you are infact burning up a point of humanity to become living. You are not absorbing it.
>And if Manus (as Elana) can summon a Vestalt golem... does that mean that the one we fight and- allegedly- protects vendrick is really working with Manus (nashandra)?
When you first visit the queen, Velstadt is standing right next to her as a guard.
I just started this game and I was wondering what the best stats were, like in Dark Souls 1 it was pointless to level up certain stats beyond certain points, what is the best strength / dexterity in Dark Souls 2?
