Why are team based multiplayer games so popular? Why are all games that are meant to be played 1v1 with only you mattering not succesful in capturing a wide esport or casual audience?
It baffles me because it feels like every popular multiplayer-game with a ranked system is full of people crying about bad teammates and an "Elo hell", yet nobody wants to play games where the only thing that matters is you yourself. Is it because despite complaining about bad teammates and Elo hell, people don't actually want to accept the reality that they are solely responsible for the outcome of a match against an opponent?
Pic sort of related, another game that tries to appeal to the 1v1 hardcore audience that doesn't seem to gain traction despite Bethesda's backing. That said, QC is pretty buggy and shittily optimized in its current state but that doesn't alone explain how unpopular it seems to be.

It just genuinely angers me becaus I SERIOUSLY crave a proper 1v1 FPS experience that is well made and has a large community. It doesn't have to be as "hard core" as Quake but like jesus christ I can't be alone with the thought that I'm REALLY FUCKING BORED OF HAVING TEAMMATES TO DEAL WITH. I have played over 4000 hours of CSGO, almost 800 hours of Overwatch, and what I really crave right now is an FPS experience where it's just me and a lone opponent dueling. Nothing else.

What is /v/ general opinion on this game?
Just played through it and I think for everything it does right there is something which they fucked up. Too much of a walking simulator sadly with only a few refreshing moments and some neat passages.
