Just finished the game. I'm honestly a bit disappointed at the ending, it felt rushed and anticlimatic to me, especially if you choose to save Chloe.
A shame because I thoroughly enjoyed the game otherwise.

Also what's with that scene where Max is tied up to the chair and gets NTR'd by everyone? I laughed my ass off when I saw Chloe going "oh Victoria you're a real woman, unlike Max, she's such a child" and they start making out, that was so random.

The game isn't very good but people lower their standards because it panders to their niche.

I didn't really care about Chloe at all but the game wanted me to, despite the developers saying they don't want to make the gameplay prescribed. I also felt like they couldn't ever decide if Max was supposed to be her own developed character or just a player vehicle. The writing overall is really juvenile, not in "these characters are dumb kids" but in "this is something a dumb kid would write." They should have made the game either a little girl lesbian simulator or an actually consistent and well written story, it tried to do both and didn't do either that well.

The only character I felt any attachment to at all was Kate. Everyone else felt like someone watched Juno too many times and wanted to copy Diablo Cody's writing style.

But in all seriousness if you don't like Chloe or Max you won't like the game. While the game is pretty hot or Miss I thoroughly enjoyed the parts that focused on Chloe and Max especially their rekindled friendship and blossoming but awkward attraction to each other.

It felt earnest. The tornado thing did feel tacked on for muh angst especially with the murder mystery being interesting.

Although I do think the twist could have been for shadowed better.

All in all not perfect but enjoyable but as I said I enjoyed Max and Chloe.

I think the writing itself is actually pretty good, judging from that scene. The problem is threefold, and they're all in the execution.
a) Chloe and Rachel now have extremely similar voices, which sort of muddles the scene
b) The mixing isn't done very well. The voices still sound like they were recorded in a studio.
c) Chloe's VA isn't very good, but I don't think she's as bad as a lot of people seem to think. I think a) and b), along with her new voice being a shock, makes her seem worse than she actually is.
So I think a lot of the issues can be fixed before August 31st, and I think that I could get used to Chloe's new voice.

I like Max okay but she feels weird as the pilot character because she's always commenting on her tastes and such so I wasn't sure how to get into the role. I'd probably enjoy it more if it was either more linear closer to something like VA-11 Hall-A or much less linear and let Max be a complete self insert where her tastes and personality are dictated by the player.

I was really expecting a big confession by Frank on the beach scene in episode 4 where he tells Chloe about how much he loved Rachel.

So, I'm certain that this interpretation has been raked over the coals a thousand times by now. I only played the game a few weeks ago (went full /u/, obviously), so I wasn't keeping up with the "discourse" as the game was coming out.

But.

As far as I'm concerned, the choice at the end of the game is fake. Or possibly underwritten, or just badly written (most likely DESU).

The central conceit of the story seems to be that Max fucking up the timeline over and over using her powers is what causes the tornado to destroy Arcadia Bay. She didn't *just* alter the timeline to save Chloe, she also altered the timeline to change what happened to Jefferson, and by proxy, herself. She went back before she even discovered her time altering abilities and

* tore up her photo
* subtly altered her behavior at Chloe's house 5 years ago, to the point that she gives Chloe a cryptic promise that she will never abandon her.

But apparently, in the ending of the game, if you choose to go back and let Chloe die, a choice which crucially, *doesn't* alter any of the other things she did while time-leaping, somehow, that makes the tornado go away?

Like, okay.

A teenager fucks up countless timelines repeatedly in the course of a week, but the fact that a lesbian exists somewhere in Arcadia Bay is the actual difference between whether a whole town gets to live or not?

Sure.

So here's how the game *actually* ends:

> Max kisses Chloe goodbye and leaps back to the moment Chloe dies.
> Max cries deeply for her lost lover.
> Max returns to the present, where HOLY SHIT the TORNADO is still happening and IT'S EVEN WORSE because WHY THE FUCK would making YET ANOTHER TIME LEAP make things better

I haven't played it, but from the way everyone described her in the first game, I came away thinking there was something psychologically wrong with Rachel. The way she seemed to perfectly fit in with everyone like some kind of social chameleon is kind of creepy. It makes me wonder how much of the Rachel Amber that Chloe fell in love with even existed.
