Yeah, for now that's the best option. I'm sure we'll get a REAL Complete Set with S3 but that won't be for a while. Go watch S1 > S2 > FWWM > S3. Throw in Secret Diary at some point, any time after S1 is fine but it's not essential. The other books are meh.

Secret History is worth a read for more on the town itself, but it tends towards being a pure lore dump at times as well as being inconsistant with the show's lore.

From what we know about the Criterion it's just a copy of the version that's on the Blu Ray release except with less features. So get the Blu Ray. The version you want is called The Entire Mystery, and if possible, get the UK release. It's region free and has better packaging while the US version looks prettier but has cheap paper sleeves for the discs and cheap glue that's been reported to rub off on them.

Depends. Secret Diary of Laura Palmer is definitely worth it even as a standalone book for someone who's never read Twin Peaks. Memeing aside, Secret History is okay too, but don't read it until you've watched the whole series because it really messes with the events and does some retconning that will confuse you if you read it before watching the original seasons.

Cooper's Autobiography is a mixed bag. Some people love it, other people hate it, so only read that if you're a big Cooper fan I guess.

Here's the order you should be following:

Twin Peaks season 1 -> Twin Peaks season 2 -> Fire Walk With Me -> The Missing Pieces -> the books (optional) -> Twin Peaks: The Return
