This is show has really gone of the deep end ever since George's departure and D&D's acquisition of complete creative control. What was once a sophisticated rumination on the concepts of war, politics, honor, and the morality therein is now vapid schlock filled with cringe inducing dialogue, flanderized fan service, literal poo poo in loo humor and faux feminist virtue signaling that is borderline zionistic. While the early seasons would cycle through many talented writers for each episode, including GRRM himself, every single episode of nu-GOT (and I mean literally EVERY SINGLE EPISODE) begins with the unholy stamp of shit, "written for Television by David Benieoff and D.B. Weiss", their names almost tauting you as sit down for another miserable hour of Jewish fan-fiction. This show is a disgrace, an abhorent legacy for GRRM to leave behind as this is now the only conclusion to the story we are ever going to get because that lazy fat fuck will never finish the books now that he has complete financial security and thus no need to get off his blubbery ass and finish the goddamn novels. But as long as fangirls can squel YAAS QUEEN on facebook and the normies have enough "reactable" moments for their reaction videos then they are happy. This is the kind of scum the show panders to now to ensure maximum viewership and social media presence. So by the middle of season 4, Stannis leaves Dragonstone, ignore the fact he takes EVERYONE from Dragonstone, including the women and children and not leaving behind a small contingent of troops to defend against a siege, like in the books. So using my math, for the last TWO AND A HALF YEARS Dragonstone was abounded. Think about that for a second. There was ships that sailed by Dragonstone dozens of times, but not once did they land and take the castle. Castles WERE THE MOST VALUABLE THING IN MEDIEVAL TIMES! The Targaryen dynasty was stripped of all rights and titles during Robert's Rebellion, and all Targaryen claims and holdings were and are forfeit, therefore they have no legal basis of inheritance.

If there are no Baratheon dynasty members alive, then the Queen would legally be entitle rule (temporarily as regent) until a great council convenes and decides on who to crown the next King. There has never been a ruling Queen in the Seven Kingdoms, and I like to think the lords of the great houses would continue with that upon deciding the next ruler.

Either way, this entire discussion is mostly hogwash anyway, as Gurm hasn't explicitly stated how a situation like this would be handled, officially, and therefore this is all speculation, although based on the most likely courses of action that a kingdom would take in a traditional medieval society.

Why is Dragonstone so strategically important in books? What's so special about this rock in the ocean?

You know it's an utterly shit episode when you realise that you could've skipped onto the next ep without missing anything at all. The fact that it was a season opener is just farcical. Clearly the objective was to re-establish all of the characters for casual viewers (me tbqh) so that everyone can remembers who's who. Cersei's exposition on the giant map painting was embarrassing to watch. They wanted for people that have never watched the show to be able to pick it up from this episode with at least a general understanding of what's going on. That's the danger of appealing to loads of people and no longer writing for yourself, instead writing "for the fans". When you start pandering to the majority, your ideas have to become broad and simplistic. I doubt HBO had any idea that a (fairly) niche fantasy show would blow up into the biggest thing on tv. I'm sure you guys that have read the books and liked and watched the show from when it first aired must be very pissed off at what it's become.

"Total War" is a relatively new concept, back in those times you had campaigning seasons because you could not feed an army for a protracted period of time without resorting to foraging, which is extremely difficult in the winter. I have no problem with tough women characters in TV, for example I think Brienne is a good character, but I draw the line when it makes no fucking sense in the story. They literally sacrifice good storytelling to push the whole "women are tough, woohoo go girl" agenda. Fuck this show and fuck the producers.

it was to show jon and sansa fighting for power and show the tension in the north that still resides due to ramsey and those who betrayed the starks
it showed Jon to take the role as someone who can rule just like Ned did and sets Sansa up to either betray Jon again another downfall due to someones morality, honor, and traditions OR finish little finger off and show that sansa isnt just having her strings pulled anymore

the little bear girl isnt important to that scene but you chose to focus mainly on her
