DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, 12/Bill “I'm a lesbian” Potts) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho
And free scenario prompts:
http://games.usvsth3m.com/drwho/

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.) Due date is tentatively August 22nd.

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged

It wasn't even her agent, it was her theatre company, she probably wrote the tweet, she's denied it in person back in May too. Remember when Capaldi said he wasn't even allowed to mention it to his family? She wouldn't have said anything if it was her.

Kris Marshall's agent declined to comment, that's what an agent would do if it was them, and there's also this, I reckon it's him >>84641739

Fuck since a few days ago when someone said her odds were going up, I've really wanted Kelly Macdonald as the Doctor. It's odd this year that I've been able to think of more women I'd want for the role than men - I think Ruth Bradley would be a good choice and maybe more realistic.
Both more exciting ideas than safe, reliable Marshall anyway.
>>
>>84644610
It's either chinese or japanese, we just know it's asian.
Chinese kinda makes sense because of the market, but I don't think China allows time travel stories there.
On the other hand, Jap women are on the rise in mainstream attention and Doctor Who is pretty much a live action anime, so they can get the weeb watchers.

Chinese goverment censors media depending on their content. Ghostbusters is banned there for example, because supernatural shit and the occult.

Usually Time Travel is banned because it "promotes feudalism, superstition, fatalism, and reincarnation", but there's a lot of chinese time travel movies. It depends on how it's done, I guess.

This. Missy has been kinda terrible this season, but man this episode took the cake. Not only was she constantly drooling over the doctor whenever he spoke to her, but also was drooling over the Master pretty much the entirety of their time together. That said these past two eps were perhaps the worst the season has managed to put out, and thats saying a lot.

Delgado's Master was apparently the 12th Master and Beevers was the 13th and last incarnation, then he got crispy. Which means that the Ainley, Tipple and Roberts Master are all the same incarnation, just stealing bodies.

It's not until the Macqueen Master where he gets a new regeneration cycle, which later leads into a regeneration into Jacobi, then Simm, then presumably Gomez.

The thing is, the Time War is a forever War. It never ends. It messes with your mind. Friends you saw die come back. Sometimes, you Wake up shivering, with the phantom screams from the death of a family you don't remember having going through your mind.

We don't really notice, cause we're just following the Doctor's adventures. But the Time War is a forever hell, where even the good days are short-lived, or erased. Rassilon is a foolish weakened husk of his former self, but make no mistakes, you would be too if you had to guide your people through that hell. And without the War Doctor, the hell had gotten worse.

For many in Gallifrey, death would have been preferable to that torment. Pity a Time Lock doesn't ever really allow you to die. You just become a frozen piece of time.

And when the Time Lock fell, Rassilon, brought back for war, had to be a peacetime leader. That was never going to work. I, personally, think Rassilon was glad that the Doctor returned. He needed an excuse to leave.

I feel like McGann would actually work best. Smith doesn't seem like he could carry the episode just own his own, he's too fun and goofy and would need someone to bounce dialogue off of.

But it might take me a little while, so do you want me to tell you a story? The Brothers Grimm, lovely fellas. They're on my darts team. According to them, there's this emperor and he asks this shepherd's boy, "How many seconds in eternity?" And the shepherd's boy says, "There's this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it! Every hundred years, a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiselled away, the first second of eternity will have passed!" You must think that's a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that's a hell of a bird.
>>
>>84649855
Can't answer that, I love a mixture of both. But not everything's perfect I suppose.

I do agree with you though about Capaldi's era. Story-telling and execution were bad. But his era also featured some incredible brave ideas, and whether you liked them or not, or whether they were executed well is another question.

Remember the brave/unique things they did in Capaldi's run:
>Go for an older Doctor for the first time since the reboot
>Try another grumpy, more distant Doctor (like 6) after the previous two were much more instantly likable
>Changed the Doctor's most iconic nemesis The Master into a woman
>Had the Doctor meet Davros as a child and proposed the horrible dilemma for the Doctor of the possibility to kill a child to avoid the Daleks ever being created
>Tried a full series consisting only of two-parters (except Sleep no More)
>Tried a full episode featuring only the Doctor and absolutely no other cast
>Make a multi-Master story

All incredibly brave ideas. Now whether they worked or whether you liked them is a different story, but you can't deny they tried a shitload of new things during Capaldi's run.

Never occurred to me just how many different things they tried with 12 until I saw that list. I don't think all of them worked out but I did like
>Changed the Doctor's most iconic nemesis The Master into a woman
Missy was one of the best things from Capaldi's run, they worked so well together on-screen and I liked how she was around more, having a presence in every series and I loved the idea of the Doctor and the Master actually being more like old friends with different views rather than just the Master being evil for the sake of it
>Had the Doctor meet Davros as a child
This was incredible to me. Although I didn't like where they went with it in the end, I applaud the idea of the Doctor meeting Davros before he became the monster he is now
>Tried a full episode featuring only the Doctor and absolutely no other cast
That was a huge risk, even Capaldi and Moffat admitted that. Yet Heaven Sent turned out to be one of the best episodes of NuWho

As for the multi-Master story, yeah I liked the idea and was very hyped but it went completely the wrong way what with Simm being underused. But Missy's final moments were incredible and once again show what a great decision it was to get Gomez to portray the Master

Dunno if you were being serious but I think it's pronounced "You-un Ree-on". And he'd be great as the Doctor I think. I saw him in Misfits where he played an unpopular, awkward and silent teenager and I thought he was just a one-tone actor. But then in GoT I saw him play a character that was basically the polar opposite. He really pulled off the psychopath role. Haven't seen him in anything else but what I've seen of him shows he has great range as an actor. As for Kris Marshall, I really hope it's him as well. Just felt like I should defend Iwan Rheon because he's a perfectly capable actor.

Tom Rosenthal would also be good, but his name is deceptive too. It's pronounced "Rose-en-thai-ahl".

She really did say it a lot. But again, I didn't mind.

Yeah. I feel bad for Smith, I think all those stops and starts really killed his momentum. And I wish they would have wrapped that whole retarded River Song/Silence arc in S6 and let him have a fresh start in S7.

Have you never heard of Ewan McGregor? I think Ewan is just a Scottish version of the traditional Hugh. Ewan is pronounced Hugh'n. I'll be honest though I've never seen or heard the last name Rheon. Also, why are you so obsessed with people's names having to be logically pronounceable or phonetically? Did you rage at Freema Agyeman? Do you have a secret hatred of Richard Ayoade?

Anyway, Kris would be perfect and I too would be upset if it turns out not to be him. I will be very upset if its Rosenthal though. Every time I see someone mention Rosenthal I ask myself if they've ever seen him act in anything. He's incredibly bad and makes me cringe every time he has a line.

>do we think that Chibnall can bring back the ratings?
A new era of Who always gets people excited and it's a great opportunity to get more new people to watch it and to reel back in those viewers who've stopped watching.
Chibnall seems to have some bold ideas, or at least that's what he's saying. But it's not just the quality of the show (though of course that's extremely important). An equal, vital part of getting DW back to where it was is publicity. The BBC need to spend a lot of money on publicity on a worldwide level, letting people know DW is back and it's different. Posters everywhere, Daleks wandering the streets of London, an intense and amazing trailer, fuck it, multiple trailers, airing closer and closer to the airdate. Maybe another world tour like Capaldi and Jenna did, where they went to Asia, Australia and America.

Sadly Iwan Rheon's locked onto what looks like the shittiest Marvel property yet and all his potential will be squandered.

I think Doctor Who stopped being the thing to watch during Tennants run.
Probably at some point in series 3
