(1/2) I've been encountering increasing frustration and despair around the 'net in relation to Dale Cooper's protracted state of arrested development, and have three points I want to share in defense of Lynch and Frost's decision to take the story down this path.
1. Plausibility. FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper spent a quarter of a century in a dimension that disregards traditional human concepts of time and space. A dimension populated solely by grotesque riddlers and inexplicable ghosts. Question: Did long-term fans of this show seriously expect Dale Cooper to just stride out from behind the Red Curtains, cup o' Joe in hand, and start runnin' shit again? Because to my mind, a no-nonsense return to status quo would have strained credulity and made light of Cooper's 25 year sacrifice. If Cooper was, to this point in the series, already in complete control of his faculties and more or less his old self, it would have felt like a cheat to me.
2. Metaphor. Thematically, Cooper's anachronistic, disconnected re-entry into the world of Twin Peaks mirrors Lynch and Frosts own uncertain return to the television landscape after 25 years. Will the creators be able to find their way back to the narrative that they invented back in the 1990s? Are they too out of touch to reconnect to audiences in the way that they once did with this show? Dale Cooper's trials in finding his way back to himself reflect his creator's efforts in finding a satisfactory way back into the Twin Peaks world that they made.

(2/2) 3. Franz Kafka. Many an observant poster around the web noted the picture of Franz Kafka in Cole's office a few episodes ago. This wasn't just quirky set dressing; Lynch is on record as being an admirer of the Prague-born writer. This extended Dougie detour has been an opportunity for Lynch (and Frost) to pay homage to Kafka by exploring many of his pet themes. I have read Metamorphosis and a few of Kafka's short stories and in this light Lynch's intentions for DougieCoop are clear; the character has encountered exactly the kinds of societal and bureaucratic obstacles that a character from any number of Kafka stories might encounter.

There ya have it; 3 sound reasons for the tale of Dougie. If the pacing hadn't been so deliberate I'd not have had time to let the ideas wash over me; we'd have all been onto the next bit of business and perhaps the greater intentions would have been overlooked...

I can't understand why so many peoples praised this show. Twin peaks is one of the most boring titles I have ever seen in my life.

Now I have seen all season 1 episodes, and seeing season 2 episode 1. Simply I can't take this show anymore.

1) Where is the proper induction in criminal investigation?

In season 1, there was a scene that agent Cooper throws stones to a bottle. Can you guess why he did that? He just want to identify murderer by doing this 'joke' while mentioning supernatural ability given by Tibet dream. Wow!!!

2) There are too many unnecessary scenes in this show.

For example, season 2 started with a 'funny' scene that a dumb old man serves agent Cooper with a cup of milk while Cooper are laying down on the floor.( He got the gun shoots in his belly already. ) This old man is doing nothing but saying some dumb comments. That's all.

This scene is really boring and even long ( 3 min 30 sec.... It's like Hell. )

I would read some comic books rather than see this show anymore.

These threads are just depressing now

Not even 8 weeks of harnessed /tv/ autism can make sense of this fucking show. It's all nothing isn't it? We're being strung along aren't we? Frost is a hack, isn't he?

I literally could not force myself to watch the entire first (pilot) episode (I watched most of it - about an hour - before I turned it off). Here's why: (1) - slow, slow, SLOW-moving story (2)- all of the characters are very odd - like in the movie "Fargo" - but not humorous like in that movie (3)- several of the characters are anachronistic - dress and act like characters from a 50s or 60s movie (both - some are 50s, some are 60s, most are modern-day). Perhaps this was an attempt at humor? It failed miserably. (4)- the high school students - which play an important role in the show - all appear to be in their mid-20s. Not done in a humorous way. (5)- inappropriate music. I don't mean that the music is adult; I mean that it is as quirky as the characters, typically not fitting either scene or plot. Again: not funny.

There are movies, shows and books that have included "out of place" things (characters, actors, music) in a very humorous way. The movie "Fargo" is an excellent example. This is not. In this series, we have out-of-place characters, out-of-place actors, and out-of-place music all done in a way that is neither humorous nor entertaining. The frustratingly-slow pace of the show seals the deal. One of the worst shows it has ever been my misfortune to waste my time watching.

We are not in the fairy tale of the naked emperor. We may confess the truth of what we see without being stupid, confess, that this show is in many aspects just incomprehensible and that it is clear that much of it was created out of pure intuition without real concept.

Well, obviously many people like such stuff. I don't. I prefer well thought and planed shows. And I also confess that the show is much to serious for my taste and boring...those love and drug stories...There are so many exciting soaps with lot of suspense (Dallas e.g.) but Twin Peaks can't catch my attention. I don't care about those people, except Cooper and Gordon Cole.

I think this was the angriest I've ever been. There has to be some point to a 20-minute janitorial scene, right? So I researched the secret history of brooms and the canonical symbology of cleaning and the fucking David Lynch custodial mythos, and, as it turns out, he just had to fill 20 minutes with some art bullshit to round out a 60-minute episode.
