Stephen Fry. Has that vibe of a glorious father figure while also being intelligent.

It's a shame he doesn't care much for the show though. Read an interview where he basically said it should be on CBBC, and that's not the attitude you should have when playing the Doctor. Or maybe he's just pissed off that the script he wrote for S2 was brushed aside because it was "too similar in tone and vibe" to a different episode that series.
Now for one, I'd love to know which episode in S2 got in that was so good that Fry's script was thrown aside, and for two, why the hell haven't they done his episode yet? Just needs a rewrite of the Doctor/Companion and it should be fit to go. I've read some of Fry's books and he's really good at storytelling and characters.

DW is a family show. Something mums, dads and children watch together. That's why the Simm boner scene gets through. Fry's of the opinion that it's a kid's show while I'm off the opinion that DW is accessible to all ages, and it should stay that way. Creepy monsters for the kids to enjoy, innuendos and plot for the adults.
