I regret making Part 8 more than anything else in my life. Mark made me do it and I didnt want to.

I don't get this at all. How can so many think this is even remotely good? After episode 7 I thought I'd give it another chance since the story actually progressed somewhat but what the heck did just happen in this episode??? It's something you could watch in some surreal modern video art exhibition. It contain zero story, just weird and stretched out scenes and goes on forever and adds nothing.

I agree with some other people, this is NOT Twin Peaks anymore. If we took the actual story of interest in the last 8 episodes, we could condense it down to 1 or max 2 episodes.

After 8 episodes we don't know what's going on, hell, I don't think Lynch knows what's going on. I loved the original Twin Peaks but this is completely horrible, I would vote it a 0/10 if possible, it's NOT ART, it's incoherent images jumbled together without any context unfortunately

In real life Parsons didn't perform the Babalon Working alone - he performed it with L. Ron Hubbard, the pulp scifi author who would later go on to found Scientology. Presumably Frost left that out of the book because the Church of Scientology officially deny Hubbard's involvement in the occult scene and Frost didn't want to get sued.

And here's the really fun part: Soon after Hubbard and Parsons performed the ritual Parsons met his future wife, the artist Marjorie Cameron, and he came to believe she was the incarnation of the goddess Babalon that they had summoned through the ritual.

After Parsons death in an explosion in 1951, Cameron moved to LA and was involved with the avante garde art scene there (I'm skipping over the parts where she briefly led a cult and claimed to have met martians while on peyote). She was close friends with the experimental film maker Kenneth Anger, frequently cited as an influence on David Lynch, and was also friends with the actors Dennis Hopper and Dean Stockwell. She and Hopper even appeared together in the movie Night Tide in 1961. Stockwell and Hopper, of course, both appear in Lynch's Blue Velvet.

So I would say there's a pretty good chance Lynch met Babalon herself at some point.

i legit enjoy the NiN interlude upon rewatch. it gives you time to process the black murderhobo ghosts ripping Bob out of Mr C. seriously an unsettling scene. it also reminds you that this is a show that will make you wait. if you can't deal with a 5 minute atmospheric song, you're not going to like the rest of the episode. Relevant lyrics too.

When season 3 gets pieced together into an 18 hour long movie, all of the musical interludes will be really neat.

I watched this episode like lynch said, in the dark, it was stormy outside. And this song was the perfect interlude for the madness of the next 45 minutes. I also love nine inch nails and this osunds like their early stuff. It was incredible.

I'm sad that we are already half way in. 10 more episodes are not enough, in my opinion, to conclude this story satisfyingly.

You know what? I have no problem with the snail paced plot mostly because I love the show moment to moment and all the surprises. But in 18 I can't see the plot progressing much. This pace would have been good for 40 episodes or so

It's not until Fire Walk With Me that we understand the depth of her suffering. In Twin Peaks we see the gradual deconstruction of the homecoming queen - the lying, manipulating, junkie - but in Fire Walk With Me we actually get to know her for the first time, which never happened in the television show. She remains an elusive mystery through the series, and only then are we made privy to the life of the girl whom we pined to know. Her disconsolate sadness, despair, and fear, and extraordinary spiritual strength in the midst of it. One of my favourite scenes in entire movie is during the dream sequence where she stands in the doorway of the painting, how hopelessly alone she seemed.

I think whether people like FWWM or not is correlated solely on how much you care for the fate of Laura.

People who don't like FWWM are people who refuse to see the darker side of Twin Peaks. The television series is from coop's perspective, optimism, and hopefulness exude from this series.

It's when FWWM begins that we see the other side of twin peaks, the underbelly through lauras perspective. I think this was jarring for a lot of fans. But it's one of my favorite films from Lynch. It's absolutely god tier.

As for the Woodsman's light, I have no fucking clue. He seemed like maybe he actually wanted a light from the married couple driving, but for the people in the radio station he clearly just wanted to kill them and take over the broadcasting equipment.
I think maybe the "got a light?" line is some demented way to give him an excuse to walk up to people and murder them, like it's a friendly icebreaker meant to disarm victims and give him an excuse for being there, but he fucks it up because he's a crazy lodge spirit.

I'm OK with that. I finished original two seasons week ago (for the first time) and it was painful as fuck. FWWM was quite good (I watched fan edit with Missing Pieces included), it gave the story some genuine substance and make me care about Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee's perfomance is awesome).

And I was surprised when I started watching season three. I expected some lazy, uninspired nostalgia-fest like Prison Break, X-Files and 24: Legacy, but what I get was just beautiful. I love The Return for what it is - a wild experience, I don't give a fuck about answers to 26 years old questions. I stopped caring about complex stories after Lost - something just clicked that day, that there is nothing to say anymore with classic approach to narrative. The Return, and episode 8 precisely, is what I like to call intuitive narrative: nothing is certain, but you still connecting some dots and meaning appears out of nowhere. I felt the same watching season two of The Leftovers.

Funny is that after watching 7 episodes of The Return, I tried to start American Gods and it was impossible to watch. It's just not enough after being lynched that hard.
