Not torture of a sexual nature, but still Kylekino.

It aired about a month after the S2 finale and therefore was probably shot at the same time as Twin Peaks, so he still looks like Agent Cooper, too.

So are we all.
Notice how the girl didn't get put to sleep, but passed out on her own. The bug then commanded her mouth open and crawled in.
Also, I think the woodsman was putting the town to sleep in order to occupy them somehow.
If so, I'm thinking this leads to the Blue Rose incident.

The episode was just as much FROSTING as it was LYNCHING. I'm legitimately REEEING at the normies who don't realize this.

So we are almost half way through the show, and the only characters I care about are retard Coop and maybe Laura Palmer who is a) dead and b) barely seen so far. I couldn't give a shit if anyone else got shot, stabbed, killed, raped, or turned out to be BOB in disguise. I guess I'd be disappointed if Naomi Watts died, but only because I believe she represents a chance for Dale Cooper to find happiness on Earth.

Be honest could you give two shits about anyone else apart from muh nostalgia?

>>
>>84347721
No you're not. It's not explained and nowhere near enough detail is given for anyone to reasonably be expected to know. That's not the way Lynch makes movies, despite people's many theories and overanalysis of his work. Above all it's about creating confusing scenarios and inexplicable events for the sake of disconcerting the viewer and asking them to question meanings they usually take from images/ideas/etc. Not to try to break these surreal images down and create meaning from them. Don't sweat the details.

We can assume that it has something to do with the creation of Bob. The rest with either be revealed later, is up to interpretation, or is unimportant.

It seemed pretty reasonable at the end of Season 2. The doppelgangers are evil spirits, why would BOB, an evil spirit, possess another evil spirit? Back then it made sense to assume the "doppelganger" merely symbolised the dark side of Cooper's own personality allowing himself to be filled with evil.

Yes.
The first episode was a cultural phenomenon, but people got less and less interested with each episode and by mid S2 only a small group of people were still watching. The last 2 episodes almost didn't even get aired.
It's influence on later TV shows got people looking back in interest and it got a big cult fanbase.

But it was still a departure from the established lore of the series, and was the first step in going "off the rails". It introduced a bunch of new elements and didn't really make great use of any of them.

>garmonbozia
>the ring
>blue rose
>lodge being global/universal

The last two especially were missteps that took the "mystique" away from the town of Twin Peaks. The FBI in the series always seemed out of their element with this case. Cole and Albert didn't seem to have any "supernatural" experience, and Albert especially was a skeptic. Cooper always had some kind of "intuition" with his dreams, but you never got the impression that he was going into Twin Peaks with knowledge of a "Blue Rose" case. It seemed to be a normal serial killer investigation that evolved into the supernatural. The FBI you see in the series don't speak or act like they've dealt with Phillip Jeffries disappearing before their eyes.

That's what worries me. Lynch did exactly this when shooting FWWM, but couldn't keep them in the film because of time constraints. With 18 hours to fill, it gives him plenty of time to shoot what amount to "deleted scenes" and throw them in to his heart's content.

The original series was a perfect narrative at a perfect pace. I feel like he has too many "spinning plates" so to speak this season.

Wasn't he pretty much confirmed to have ESP though? I think he mentions in the pilot being a strong sender (whatever that means) because he's worried about influencing Sarah Palmer during the police sketch session and he seems like the TP shit isn't the first time he's had dreams like this.

Well he had the Tibet dream beforehand, so I think he always had some kind of "abilities", but it wasn't to an insane degree. That's what I didn't like about My Life, My Tapes. It basically says that he and his mother were visited by the same man in their dreams and that his mother said never to let him in. I don't know if it was supposed to be BOB or another Lodge figure, but when everything has to "connect" like that, it becomes less interesting, in my opinion.

My Life, My Tapes sucked pretty hard all around, not least of all because of the BOB connection. I can appreciate Coop and Laura having similarities because it makes the scene at the end of FWWM so much more emotional, but I think there are better ways to go about it that aren't this clumsy or pointless.

I don't think you can even make the argument that BOB molested or otherwise abused Coop which makes the dreams he has in that book extra pointless, unless you really overanalyze his characterization and assume that some of his hypersexualized behavior he's shown to have is a result of trauma and this is his way of coping with it like Laura did.
>>
So is Boop without Bob 'op'?

>>84348227
Laura had her own ball too, why can she be an egg and not BOB?

The thing is, the egg spawned an ugly, deformed creature that violated a girl's body after a malignant spirit made her pass out. I don't see why we should associate this with Laura, which came from something beautiful as opposed to BOB's vomit

Lynch really lynched MIKE's character with this episode, didn't he? He seems practically irrelevant now and his past relationship with Bob doesn't even make sense anymore.
>>
>>84348295
Yeah, I'm all for some backstory, and parts of it were interesting, but at points it seems like we're reading about a different character.

I'll genuinely recommend Secret Diary and Secret History to any Twin Peaks fan, but I have a tough time recommending a full read-through of My Life, My Tapes to anyone.

I think the current series has some interesting references to it...
>Cooper's interest in the "cowboy" statue possibly being because it looked like Jimmy Stewart in The FBI Story, the poster for which he had above his bed as a child
>Diane's appearance being a cross between a saint and a cabaret singer
...but I still think it's worth reading a summary of at most.
>>
>>84348349
He's pretty slutty in that book. It's not nearly as smutty as The Secret Diary, but there are some really out of place entries where Coop obsesses about sex with one of the weirder ones being him talking about how he thinks about fucking on an almost hourly basis even when he's in college, iirc.

No idea how this is supposed to enrich a character who before this point was shown to be pretty chaste otherwise, but that's Frost for you.

There's been a few weird discrepancies this season. In Jades car when she's giving Dougie the ride to the casino, the headrests are on the front seats for the first half of the scene and then disappear at the second half. I think someone else mentioned here that certain characters like Sonny Jim blink backwards in certain scenes? I'm pretty certain it's deliberate, I could onyl see one gunshot wound on Boop's body.

Either they couldn't fit it into the end of the last episode, or they were concerned about this episode being too off-putting to viewers if it started in such unfamiliar territory. That weakened it a bit in my opinion, though. If it started with the blast, and ended in the same way, it could have been an incredible short film under the "Twin Peaks" umbrella.
>>
>>84348772
Depends how much faith you have in Lynch. Some of us believe it's intentional to give you a sense like things just aren't right, like when Dougie's wife is eating her sandwich and they play the same clip of her eating twice and then zoom out and she still hasn't actually taken a bite yet. His son also seems to blink backwards and we've seen the same clip of the junkie shouting ONE ONE NINE at least twice now. It''s not too out there to think this is all for a purpose, given the blue scene was really blatantly done on purpose so he's clearly not averse to "bad" editing deliberately.

BUT you could just say they're being lazy or trying to save money. I can totally buy that "the gunshots have shit special effects on purpose" is getting into pretentious territory.

The start was to throw the audience off and make it think it was in for something like thenlast 7 episodes. By the time the audience was settled in, the Lynching began.
>>
>>84348836
Yeah, and it just so happens that this "something off" feeling is also mysteriously attributed to things like poor editing and low-budget special effects, but it's all a master play by Lynch.

Bad acting?
>it's on purpose

Bad effects?
>it's on purpose

Bad writing?
>it's on purpose

>it's on purpose

>it's on purpose

>it's on purpose
>>
>>84348926
Plus, the ending of the previous episode, where everybody in the Double R changes. It's too obvious to be a mistake, but not obvious enough for everyone to pick up immediately. I think he's trying to play more to a subconscious level, where something is constantly off but you can't put your finger on it. That's the type of "unsettling" Lynch loves.
>>
>>84347505
Last ep was a bit too out there for me, I guess I've been lynched
>>
Reminder that people said this season of Twin Peaks is literally the same as the first 2 seasons, but they've gone into hiding with their incorrect and frankly unwelcome opinions. We should be thankful of that.
>>
>>84348943
All it did was lessen the impact of the lynching, it'd still be all the same if we didn't have that incredibly awkward cut to NiN performing a full song.

Just imagine how incredible that would have been as a bookend to episode 7, ep7 was already fantastic, but to include a cliffhanger where Booper gets "killed" and fucking NiN plays us out, then a week later fucking 1945..

I love Part 8, but man do I wish the first 16 minutes was not part of it.

Not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing, but this kind of structure is exactly what he's tried to subvert multiple times, for better or worse. We set up that episodes end with a performance at the bang bang bar, then suddenly we're there for richard horne, we're there 10 minutes BEFORE the end, we're there but it's just a sweeping scene, now we're there but it's literally the start.
Ending on a cliffhanger with boop then going straight into this was never ever a possibility.
>>
>>84348972
Your idea just happens to sound like shit. If the episode opened to the blast I'd be prepared for the rest instantly. Instead I got ten minutes of typical season 3 fare before watching it deconstruct and morph into a surreal nightmare. I wasn't prepared for it at all and it was much more effective.

Why would you be prepared? You speak of this 16 minute intro as if nothing exists before it, season 3 already has an established tone and pacing, everything in the 1945 sequence is still art-house tier experimental, if the episode was just that, you would still be blown away because you had expectations in mind for something else.

I mean an episode ends with Cooper dying, we have to wait a full week and when we return it is 1945 and a nuclear bomb goes off, and about 10 minutes into it, we realize we're watching an origin story play out.

It would have hit so much harder and been so much more cohesive as a whole episode in tone. I completely disagree with you, but you're allowed to have that opinion, I just find it dumb that you think my idea of this would in any way lessen the impact.

That's total bollocks, mate you know it.

Ah, you're seeing this as a collection of episodes instead of a single megafilm. No wonder you're confused. There was no series bible or pile of scripts. It's all done from a single 400 page screenplay, and it was filmed as a single project. It wasn't split into episodes until well into post production.

And no, the set up as it was worked. If it started with the blast I would've seen that blast knowing something weird may happen, as I'd just sat down after a week of nothing.
Instead I get 10 minutes of set up for bad Coop killing his target. During that time my mind was prepared for something like a Dougie scene or a cut to the Sherrff's department. My guard was down, and it made the transition to the surreal even more jarring. The subverted expectation was a big part of the shock of it all. Play filmmaker all you want, but you can't change my feel of the experience.

This is not Twin Peaks! This episode is totally disrespect for the viewers. Impossible to watch if you are a sane person. Some may say this is art. It is not! It is just a director throwing crap at viewers and laughing thinking of their reaction. Maybe he has some frustrations and he is now intentionally completely destroying Twin Peaks. If you are to make another season, please get another director, really... Zero connection with what we loved about the old Twin Peaks, zero connection with even the new story they started, just a bunch of ... crap. I can t even describe what happened in this episode.

I don't get this at all. How can so many think this is even remotely good? After episode 7 I thought I'd give it another chance since the story actually progressed somewhat but what the heck did just happen in this episode??? It's something you could watch in some surreal modern video art exhibition. It contain zero story, just weird and stretched out scenes and goes on forever and adds nothing.

I agree with some other people, this is NOT Twin Peaks anymore. If we took the actual story of interest in the last 8 episodes, we could condense it down to 1 or max 2 episodes.

After 8 episodes we don't know what's going on, hell, I don't think Lynch knows what's going on. I loved the original Twin Peaks but this is completely horrible, I would vote it a 0/10 if possible, it's NOT ART, it's incoherent images jumbled together without any context unfortunately.

Yep. I'm sure you can find a torrent or link somewhere. I don't know if they're still doing it, but when the book came out Audible was giving a month-long free trial/free book to everyone who signed up. I chose Secret History then cancelled my subscription at the end of the month. Didn't pay a penny.

Lynch has really lost the plot . . . literally. The small promise finally shown for at least parts of Episode 7 has given way once again to more self-indulgent, self-referential, masturbatory nonsense contributing nothing to the story or even to the general mood of the series. One gets the feeling that Lynch has forgotten that this is an episodic television show rather than a series of one-off avant-garde film school projects. I've been a huge fan of Lynch for his uncanny and almost unmatched ability to create images that can be beautiful, haunting, and frighteningly disturbing at the same time, and to find the sublime in the mundane or weird. But rather than using weirdness as a vehicle to compliment the narrative, Lynch has become a mere exhibitionist, elevating weirdness just for the sake of weirdness. I'm not sure which is more disappointing -- Lynch apparently losing the ability to tell a really fascinating story, or all the fan-boys who flock to these reviews to post their self-laudatory bunk as they desperately try to convince us that the emperor's new clothes are truly spectacular. Unfortunately for them, the proof is in the pudding, as they say, and this pudding is a rancid, mushy mess. If I could give this episode and this series a negative rating, I would.

You know as shit as generic "hey guys im X from Y site here to talk to YOU about this weeks twin peaks!!" surface-level journalists are, i'd take them any day over the pseudo-intellectual style that reviews like these feel the need to take.

Like at least they make an effort to sound like real people who really watch the show, meanwhile every IMDB review sounds like they're trying to get published in magazines and their thoughts are of the highest importance when they're just Linda, 45, Texas, giving her thoughts on the latest episode for some random guy online to glance over.

I agree about the NiN performance, it felt like a music video was awkwardly shoved smack in the middle of an episode but the dougiecoop stuff being the beginning was masterful, it tricked everbody into thinking they were finally getting MAJOR plot movement (evil coop dying) only for him to get back up and the next 40 minutes to be complete and utter insanity.

The white lodge being a jutting tower with bizarre alien geometry in the middle of an endless raging sea is Lovecraft as fuck, either Frost or Lynch are clearly a fan. That shot looked like it could've been straight out of a Dagon or Call of Cthulhu film.

Then the fire would walk with him.
>>
>>84350056
Yeah I kinda feel bad for saying that that. For things like game of thrones all the recaps and articles are mostly just generic and boring but for twin peaks most people covering it seem to respect the show a lot. Even stuff like gamespot universe, which I don't really like, clearly cares about the show because they don't just spend the whole thing parroting reddit threads and recapping they actually give their own theories and thoughts.

Major Briggs's description of his vision in S2 reminded me of the beginning of Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath:

https://youtu.be/tc74zZmn2m8

>Three times Randolph Carter dreamed of the marvellous city, and three times was he snatched away while still he paused on the high terrace above it. All golden and lovely it blazed in the sunset, with walls, temples, colonnades, and arched bridges of veined marble, silver-basined fountains of prismatic spray in broad squares and perfumed gardens, and wide streets marching between delicate trees and blossom-laden urns and ivory statues in gleaming rows; while on steep northward slopes climbed tiers of red roofs and old peaked gables harbouring little lanes of grassy cobbles. It was a fever of the gods; a fanfare of supernal trumpets and a clash of immortal cymbals. Mystery hung about it as clouds about a fabulous unvisited mountain; and as Carter stood breathless and expectant on that balustraded parapet there swept up to him the poignancy and suspense of almost-vanished memory, the pain of lost things, and the maddening need to place again what once had an awesome and momentous place.
>>

>Urged on by an impulse which I cannot definitely analyse, I scrambled with difficulty down the rocks and stood on the gentler slope beneath, gazing into the Stygian deeps where no light had yet penetrated. All at once my attention was captured by a vast and singular object on the opposite slope, which rose steeply about an hundred yards ahead of me; an object that gleamed whitely in the newly bestowed rays of the ascending moon. That it was merely a gigantic piece of stone, I soon assured myself; but I was conscious of a distinct impression that its contour and position were not altogether the work of Nature. A closer scrutiny filled me with sensations I cannot express; for despite its enormous magnitude, and its position in an abyss which had yawned at the bottom of the sea since the world was young, I perceived beyond a doubt that the strange object was a well-shaped monolith whose massive bulk had known the workmanship and perhaps the worship of living and thinking creatures.
