I found it TOO simplistic and straightforward. Romans were one-dimensional again, eaters of light weren't very intersting. Caves again, literally the same premise with the previous episode.

The explanation for the Crows, lack of any real lingering monster prescensce, the PC Roman Legion, and the continuity cofuffle really brought this one down a peg or four, but I did like some of it...at least they got around to explaining the range of the TARDIS translation field for Bill, the last real detail she needed to know, and The Doctor explained regeneration to her too.

Anyone get the feeling The Doctor and Missy interactions were making up for a very underlength script?

This. As happy as I am for the return of the Mondasian Cybermen, it's just Moffat cramming in too many ideas into one episode. The whole thing should have been about the Master. That way it wouldn't feel as cluttered as all his other fucking finales are. If it was just a simple Doctor vs Two Masters set up that would be far more entertaining and exactly what people wanted.

Because let's be fair, the return of Simm and a meeting of two Masters is way more exciting than the return of the Mondasian Cybermen.

The biggest surprise is Matt Lucas as Nardole. Everyone thought he'd be terrible, but he's been great so far.

Capaldi probably starts regenerating in the finale, but the regeneration doesn't complete fully until Christmas special.
