Does anybody else know that feeling when you suddenly remember that you fucking love Doctor Who and you're filled with all this aimless inspiration?

I wish the classic series was on Netflix so I could just binge watch it. It's too much of a hassle mucking about with files on my computer, especially when it comes to reconstructed episodes.

Hot Series 11 news, potentially S11 airs on Sundays instead of Saturdays. Chibnall wants to take risks:

I think the bigger news is the fact that BBC seem so amiable to him. He talks about how they had to "woo" him, which indicates to me that they somehow sweetened the deal more and also that when he came to them with his vision for the show they were instantly onboard.

Chibnall admits that he took a long time to commit: “I finally said yes because I love the show to my bones. I resisted it for a very long time, and [the BBC] really had to woo me.

“But, in the end, I had ideas about what I wanted to do with it. When I went to them and said, ‘This is what I would do’, I actually expected them to say, ‘Ooh, let’s talk about that’, but they said: ‘Great!’”

Chibskino. Hoky fuck.

Someone please explain the appeal of Dr Who to me.

To me it just seems like a very poorly produced, written and acted 1960s show with puddle deep stories and antiquated production values. Is it just because Brits don't have anything resembling modern cameras so they think that anything is good?

What does /who/ think of the current season? I've been postponing it until now, watched 6 episodes, and so far I think it's better than Capaldi's previous seasons. Might even be the best one since 5. And I even liked Bill, if she doesn't overstay her welcome like Amy and especially Clara, might end up fifth best nuWho companion after Donna, Captain Jack, Rory and Wilfred in that order.
>>
>>83873974
>watched 6 episodes, and so far I think it's better than Capaldi's previous seasons. Might even be the best one since 5

Empress of Mars wasn't terrible
>>
>>83874036
I know. It was good. Empress of Mars is episode 9 though.
>>
>>83873974

I think it's Capaldi's weakest and a disappointment all around. There's been no standout episodes so far.

Whithouse wrote the last part
>>
>>83874575
Wow. what the hell! That episode stank of Moffat, especially with the "power of love" ending and the stupid fake out regeneration. How the fuck did this guy go from writing "The God Complex" and the boostrap two-parter to this shit?! A bad episode is one thing, now a bad episode full of missed opportunities as the last one in a 3-parter of pretty good episodes is a whole new level.
>>
>>83874545
Pyramid was not good, anon.
>>
>>83874749

>>

>implying that The God Complex was bad
>>
>>83874885
Well, Pyramid set up villains which were unique for once, i really liked the concept of benevolent dictators and the simulation, even though they could have paced things a bit better. I also like them characterizing Bill as an impulsive and flawed companion.
>>
>>83875019
In what way were they benevolent? They coerced the humans.
>>
>>83874898
I'm not really a fan of base under siege episodes, but his two parter last season was good, especially compared to fucking Sleep No More. Also The God Complex.
>>
>>83875093
They did, after they were given "consent" based on love, meaning they would only conquer someone if they were sincere in consenting to their help. They also executed criminals painlessly (even with them considered the ones telling the truth criminals) and had labour camps instead of prisons.
>>
I've just watched Broadchurch series 1.

>>
>>83875195

>>
>>83875190

Do you know what 'coercion' means?
>>

>>
>>83875019
Pyramid has far too many dumb moments and "why didn't they do the logical thing" to the point that it actively ruins the episode
>>
>>83875814
Well, it was a competent episode, compared to some we had with Capaldi. It had an interesting premise and a good narrative.
>>
>>83875858
Are you talking about Bill being retarded for example? Or the stupid combination lock? I'm kinda desensitized to this kind of shit at this point.
>>
>>83873974
I felt exactly the same at the series 10 episode 6 point. No duds yet and all that.

Then we got episode 7 with plot holes big enough for an elephant to jump thru. Never mind....every series has to have at least one stinker I spose.
>>

Basically everything to do with that biochem facility
>dangerous chemicals are pumped out into the atmosphere every 30 minutes with no filtering, instead of being disposed of properly
>the doctor conveniently forgets the sonic sunglasses can video stream even though he was literally using them to call bill at the time
There's a lot more but the fact that all of the main conflicts were shit that should have been avoided and not an issue really fucked up the episode

Oh, of course, but in terms of how they act, and what they do, the Nightmare in Silver versions were much more Borg-like than any prior incarnation. The whole on-site assimilation, adapting to damage, the Cybermen as a villain predate the Borg, but the "stuff" that the Borg do predates that inclusion in the Cybermen.

Someone theorised that the Christmas ep takes place entirely in his head, as he's regenerating, and there's some sort of adventure with the first doctor, before he has a conversation with 13 about moving on. Would be kino if what happens is similar

I don't know how I'd feel about the 1st Doctor stuff, I doubt Moffat could do him justice, but the basic idea of regenerating in the finale and having Christmas be in 12's head sounds both GOAT and plausible.
>>
>>83880852
Could this article actually be true then?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4415054/Kris-Marshall-set-replace-Peter-Capaldi-Doctor-Who.html

>'Kris Marshall has already joined the cast and will regenerate at the end of this series, not in the Christmas special.'
>>
>>83881068
I could see some Christmas Carol type story where 12 meets the Ghost of Doctors Past and the Ghost of Doctors Future who are 1 and 13 respectively.
It'd need some threat to make it a little interesting, maybe the new Master telepathically attacks him or it could be the return of the Dream Lord.

Starting to sound like kino.
>>
>>83881168
This would be awesome. Moffat's last story: The Doctor reminiscing, but at the same time looking towards the future and the new era.
>>
>>83880519
That's the big difference between Bill and Clara.

By series 9, Clara believed she was indestructible and that the Doctor would always save her, even if she sometimes deliberately put herself in danger.

Bill doesn't deliberately put herself in danger, just ends up in dangerous situations cos she loves adventures.

Tbf he's also admitted himself he hates titles/isn't very good at them. Until his kid told him it was crap, Smith's debut was called "The Doctor Returns" kek

Rory the Plastic Roman,
Was an auton in disguise,
Even though he'd been wiped from,
Everybody else's lives.
Nobody recognised him,
Not even his fiancee,
But when she wised up to him,
His shooter hand blew her away.

Then for no reason at all,
The Doctor remembered.
"Rory how did you come to be?
Never mind it's a Moffat story.
I'm off back to the TARDIS,
To turn forward all the clocks,
For the next two thousand years,
Guard your bitch inside this box!"

I wonder. is the Valeyard ever gonna appear in Nu-who? Or is he just gonna be some off screen kinda thing for some spin off like in some novel or something?

Apparently he should be appearing eventually, as the Doctor is in his 12th(not counting war doctor) incarnation, so that means eventually he should appear, as he appears in between the 12th and 13th incarnations....
