Just finished Broadchurch Season 2. It's not as bad as everybody says. It does feel like its entire purpose is to be fanservice though, which is a very strange thing for a serious crime drama to be, especially only in its second series.

Sure. I'll give you a slightly vague response and then a spoilered one that you can choose to read or not. Basically, all of its plots are concerned with season 1. There is no new case. Maybe fanservice isn't the right word, but it's basically just an entire season of seeing more of the same characters and learning more about events in the past.

The slightly more spoilery version, which is essentially just a synopsis without giving away any endings, is this: The two main plot threads of S2 is Joe Miller's trial and trying to solve the Sandbrook case

Jacobi only had a couple minutes as the Master. Of course you could always timescoop him, or season 6B him, or skelly-resurrect him. But otherwise, all the reasonable gaps in his life, he was either young, or Yana instead of the Master.

And Missy and Yana could be lots of fun. She figures out his secret and spends most of the episode fucking with him. Finally, she triggers him to open the fob watch and become the Master, and he immediately kills her, and now the Doctor has to convince him to re-fob and return to his original time or history is fucked.

The most obvious contrast is that Simm is just more "evil", which isn't all that exciting.

But it sounds like (admittedly from pretty minimal clues and probably a lot of wishful thinking…) the reason both Moffat and Simm were interested in doing this in the first place is that they wanted to see how a more sedate and sinister version of the Simm Master would work, rather than OTT evulz. And that could be interesting with Missy.

I'd say Simm comes off more like a young person playing up to stifle his insecurities, whereas Missy is like the weird old uncle who no longer cares.
Simm wants power, Missy wants stimulation.
Simm is legit mentally troubled, Missy performs insanity to fuck with people.
Simm gets more out of sadism towards lesser mortals, Missy sees herself as so far above them it's just like crushing an ant.

Mostly agreed. And there are definitely plenty of hooks to differentiate them beyond the most obvious one if they aren't really interested in making Simm more sedate and sinister.

It's mostly positive. It looks like the episode itself is more focused on the Doctor and Bill than any external threat. It will probably be good in the sense that it will establish their relationship, but I doubt it will be all that exciting.

Why do so many normies apply human logic to the friendship between the Doctor and Master, they seem to think they can't be friends because the Master is mass murderer, but if you know the lore then you know Master and Doctor are thousands of years old and are super intelligent ALIENS. You cannot apply human logic to ancient aliens. I like Moffats view that it's an ancient deadly game where both players (Master, Doctor) often get fatally injured. If you were a bored ancient super being, wanting to be entertained you'd want to play such deadly games to keep yourself occupied. people need to realize this.

First, the Doctor isn't even remotely too alien to understand. The only way you can get anything out of Heaven Sent or The Green Death, much less Doomsday, is to recognise that the Doctor is basically like us, just a bit bigger.

But the reason viewers think the Doctor disapproves of mass murder isn't projecting our human logic onto him, it's the fact that he—far more than any of us—spends his life crusading against mass murders and protecting the little people wherever he finds them.

The Doctor can't be friends with the Master, and yet he is. That's not him being utterly alien, that's just him being like us but bigger. All of us have life-long friends or family members who are assholes, but we can't give up on them, and that's a great emotional story to tell. None of us have life-long friends who are mass murderers, but it's the same emotional story on a grander scale. Which is why it works.

The reason he's a popular panelist is that he's great at spur-of-the-moment improvisation. He even did a comedy tour where he basically didn't bring any jokes and just played off hecklers in the crowd for an hour.

I could definitely see him working as the Doctor with the right writers, but it doesn't seem like he'd fit with Chibnall's style at all. Although not nearly as badly as he'd fit with RTD or Moffat, so…I guess it could be Chibnall deliberately trying to change things up as much as possible?
