It was unfinished for a long time because this movie was originally part of Paramount's Insurge Division(source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/paramount-downgrades-low-budget-insurge-783745), which was a sector of Paramount devoted to low budget films made for 5 million or less. The Insurge divison collapsed and folded up and this film(when it was originally called Valencia) was caught in limbo with no studio home. Eventually it was grabbed up by Paramount again and new scenes were written in by Dan Casey to connect the film to the Cloverfield universe so it would actually make some money in theaters. Those new scenes/reshoots were shot in in March 2015 and they've spent the last year editing and adding effects. I'm starting to get a real funny feeling about this film the more and more I dig around. The original script, the fact that none of the original Cloverfield crew are involved(aside from JJ), and the fact that Paramount is releasing a film with a 5 million dollar budget in IMAX, is beginning to seem like a big cash grab for Paramount to make a few quick bucks off of an orphaned movie that they bought up. It was tied into the monster's backstory. Tagruato was mining the ocean floor for se weird flower that is an ingredient in Slusho (and then?) the monster was awoken by the fallen satellite(?). It was explained more in the manga, and really, I'm glad it was left out of the movie for the most part. I still want that Slusho! shirt, though.

I'm not convinced this is kaijushit. I mean nothing in the trailer suggests we will even see the monster. I feel like with the tagline "monsters come in many forms". That this film is going to focus more on the reaction to a kaiju than an actual kaiju.

Several things point to.

John Goodman having prior knowledge of the monster. He probably "saved" these two people the night of the attack.
John Gallagher's character seems to believe John that an attack is going on. MEW's doesn't.
MEW probably wakes up after being knocked unconscious. And the John's try to calm her.
They have dinner mind you this is ALL taking place the night of the attack. MEW tries to escape. Sees the fires on the horizon of a burning NY. Decides to settle in.

The "shaking" scene is probably the buke being dropped on NY.

Goodman is some kind of scientist. And what's in the barrel is Seabed's Nectar. He probably explains the monster and shit.

One of the parasites breaks in through the ventilation system.

the John's both die.

MEW as the sole survivor flees the bunker. Only to see the Kaiju still lives and is now outside of the city and near the bunker.

1) Show a sequel that explains what happened after Cloverfield 1 somehow (brief dialogue) and include a certain awesome looking monster

or

2) Not a sequel of any sort and we don't get to see the monster very often, if there IS any monster at all.

If no monster - the movie will literally kill itself.

If there is a monster but lack of appearance or poor shots of it - movie is going to be rekt on /tv/

If the movie is a sequel that explains everything we asked about on Cloverfield 1 and has some interesting elements - the movie will be amazing.
