Some normies can't into internet or ordering from Japan or by the time they hear about these things preorders have closed.

>It is the internet age you can buy it yourself online, No?
If you're informed (as the users here should be) and the stuff you want is available at places that sell for sane prices, sure. That last one is the kicker; supply and demand can be a real bitch and FAGs have a tendency to go out of stock. If you're not patient or simply don't know what you're doing you pay a scalper.

I mean I get it if it is sold out, but this year I have seen the that there is more and more store stocks on FAG so I find it difficult to really believe that people need to go to eBay to buy it. But if there is a market for it, then there is a market for it
>>
>>6433102
>if there is a market for it, then there is a market for it
There is. There are always idiots and the restocks can still go pretty quickly because, as pointed out, Koto still isn't making enough and people are now anticipating those shortages so they jump all over what supply there is. It kind of sucks if you aren't there right on time.

I don't know why the online retailers can't keep up. Whenever I visit Japan all the hobby stores have everything in stock. Being a gaijin is suffering.
>>
>>6433268
Online retailers have a small/no warehouse to keep the costs down to stay competitive. They basically bundle the orders they receive and get their goods from the distibutors. When koto finishes a print run the distributors are the first to run out of stock.
Physical shops are more or less the bottom of the food chain and are the last to run out of stock.

Scratches along contact surfarces are inevitable, to be frank. It might not be that much of an issue as you aren't going to play with these toys the way you'd play with an action figure. You could also experiment and try to see if you can dye the parts black first and then put your layer of paint on top. Would mean that any scruffs become a lot less visible.

Rit Dye is getting a lot of exposure on Youtube, but I got no idea how well they'll work on the plastics we're working with here.

Another tip would be to try and find the colour with the best pigment available, so that you'll get your result with very thin layers and use something more aggressive than the usual acrylics.

The Kimono also will be an issue as the fabic that could pull off what you're seeing in that illustration in 1/12 plain doesn't exist.

There were four Mk2 releases with three possible results in terms of what you got.

There's the original Mk2s, which are just the base equipment.

There's Tempesta/Lavina, which have everything the Mk2s have plus the extra parts circled in red here.

There's Mk2 Full Arms Package, which has everything the Mk2s had plus everything in this image, so everything Tempesta/Lavina had and more.

Then finally there's Tempesta/Lavina Full Arms Package, which have the exact same parts as Arnval/Strarf Mk2 Full Arms Package.

Dyeing sounds kinda dangerous. I'll have to test it with runners and dead KOs.

>Another tip would be to try and find the colour with the best pigment available, so that you'll get your result with very thin layers and use something more aggressive than the usual acrylics.
How do I find that out about a paint?

>The Kimono also will be an issue as the fabic that could pull off what you're seeing in that illustration in 1/12 plain doesn't exist.
You mean the way if flows or the thickness of it? I intend to make the kimono myself and I've been looking into making clothes for my FAGs from time to time. The silk that one anon above ordered looks like the right texture for it to me.
I still haven't looked up how to measure the real size of the print, though, I don't have a working printer at hand ATM.
>>
>>6434532
There was a guy on twitter that dyed his MD with Rit's so I'm pretty sure it works.
But it was on white plastic so I don't know how it will work on other colored plastics.
>>
>>6434663
White is fine. I'll be using the white WISMs since they are cheap.
Is there anything special about Rit, though? I'm looking it up to see how I can get some of it but I'm not sure if I'm willing to put up with Amazon's shitastic shipping to my country.
Maybe I'll have to look for a generic dye.

Also, I'm halfway through this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX6i9-Gz-7c
and it says I have to put the pieces in the oven. Not sure what to make of it but he does make a good point with it helping the plastic absorb the dye.
>>
>>6433306
wtf is up with her face
>>
>>6434713
Nothing special about RIT as far as I know, they're just one of the oldest and most established dye manufacturers.

One thing to look for is something called Rit Dyemore, I believe. It's specially formulated dye for working with synthetic fabrics like polyester, so it should dye plastics more effectively(at least theoretically). I actually bought some dye to try on one of my WISMs, but I havent gotten around to trying it out yet.

Maybe this weekend I'll do some trail runs on leftover runners to see what kind of effects I can get.
>>

>>6434663
>>6434713
>>6434854
Things to know about dye:

- It requires (low) heat so it may shrink or warp your parts a bit, use with caution

- I had heard RIT dye changed their formula and it no longer adheres well to plastic, which is why so many toy customizers were racing around trying to find old production runs of RIT a few years back. I don't know if this has changed since, but yeah, you definitely want to do some tests on junker toys before the real deal.

Yeah, the print is another issue... It's kinda made easier as it's a repeating pattern, but getting an un-stretched view of it is still going to be some work. Do you have a decent vector drawing software on your PC? I use Inkscape as it's free, but getting into that one takes some work.

Zoids compatibility with other kits are REALLY hit and miss, even with other zoids. Both HMM and Normal line, altough the original line had weapon swapping with various kits and the shadow fox even featured mutiple slot shapes and sizes to allow a very wide choice of weapon swapping for it.

Also the HMM line lacks anything remotely fish like for the time being.

Why is removing lines from armor so hard, I sand and I sand, use putty and then when I reprime its still visible. fuck.
>>
>>6435491
You use wrong putty.

>>
>>6435061
>Do you have a decent vector drawing software on your PC? I use Inkscape as it's free, but getting into that one takes some work.
I was just about to start looking into vector drawing programs. Thanks for the suggestion.
>>
>>6435491
visible as in still recessed, or a raised line? If the former I had a lot of luck tweaking one of the 'sprue goo' methods. The method which calls for soaking a length of straight sprue in cement until it becomes squishable like clay or putty but not completely melted into goo. Airplane modelers then use that to remove unneeded panel lines from the kit more easily then putty which may be less hard then the plastic and result in excess putty in the line being removed.

In my case I did not need to remove a ton of lines, and I did not want to wait forever to soften up that much sprue. So what I did was I simply SHAVED a thin slice of sprue off and did my best to flatten it down as well as cut to size. Then I prepared the area to be fixed with a bit of cement (I use extra thin if this matters) and waited a bit before pressing the sprue shaving to the area, then covered the top of the sprue with a bit of cement as well.

Ten minutes or so later it was soft enough for me to really press down on it with the tip of tweezers to try and mush the sprue down into the lines. Then finished it up by trying to smooth out any raised edges of sprue so they were in direct contact with the part, didn't want to risk anything catching as I sand it down.

By the end of the day it was ready for sanding and worked out wonderfully. The plastic was completely seamless including color wise which makes this method great for no/low paint builds but having a gap too obvious for normal seam welding to fix.
>>
So how bad were your first attempts at painting your first models?

I need moral support.

On a side note, what cheap spray scan primer for acrylics would you recommend for a cheap bastard? Preferably something available at a Walmart or craft store.
>>
>>6435491
You might be using too thin putty or too thick. If it's too thin, when the putty dries it'll shrink because the putty is saturated and inflated with liquid. If it's too thick you might pull it off when sanding. If you're using a very thin putty like Mr Dissolved Putty then you can just layer it about 4-5 times and it should be fine.
>>
>>6435670
>>6435623
I dunno, maybe I pulled it off while sanding, I just restripped and put another layer on (dissolved putty) it's frustrating because it felt smooth with !y fingernail.
>>
>>6435663
I did not do research and had no idea of the concept of thinning paints. I just bought a couple jars of citadel paints and went to work on detailing a 1/100 no grade Red Frame Astray.

Fortunately it was JUST detailing so wasn't that bad. Unfortunately it was JUST detailing so I never would have noticed the issues that I now notice after being exposed to /tg/. But thankfully I did more research when I returned to modeling 6 years later, on top of being familiar with the THIN YOUR PAINTS meme by then.

Primer I prefer just buying modeling primer to be on the safe side. Haven't had too much success with a lot of no model kit specific primers. However I do experiment with non primer srays since model kit specific sprays are so tiny and expensivecompared to other stuff.

Valspar for me seems to spray on too thick and grainy, no matter how thin a coating I spray each time. Krylon I tend to have a lot more success with.

Use the blades from a Skull Massacre to make the fish fins. Combine other MSG parts as needed to make the rest of the tail. Those new X Armor sets coming later this year look useful for the exterior plating, and one or two of the Flexible Arm sets should be enough to make the spine of the tail. Spiral Crusher might also be useful as materials.

That's funny, I was just building my qt Hornets yesterday was was thinking the MD girls were a little on the flat side.

Koto to the rescue again. All my moon shekels.

Also, they're not bothering with the 2-in-1 packages like the first two WISMs anymore? I kind of regret not getting more of the first two now.
>>
>>6435956
But won't they get in the way when shooting an arrow? Watch someone make an amazon version and hack off the right tit.
>>
>>6436089
They seem to be experimenting a little. The first two waves were the two-in-one but only gave you enough parts for one per box, which I guess they decided was wasteful. I kind of agree, I would have preferred them individually or with enough parts for a full set of two per box.

Then we have the SOL pair, which have one full suit of armor split across two girls. This is better, but still feels just a little wasteful unless you know what you want to do with the unarmored girl. Thankfully you can put together MSG parts to make something decent for her.

Now Archer and Ninja look more like they're meant to be standalone from each other. If they have an intended combined form, we haven't seen it yet. Their armor looks a bit more complete on its own, so I'd be happier with displaying them individually.

Progress! (Note: I didn't make the saws)

I made the collar for Picco Neemo heads and just now realized that it's a bit on the thick side to comfortably fit on mecha musume girls. I'll have to make a thinner version. The wrist and ankle cuffs fit on FAG, MD, and Shinkis.
>>
>>6436109

I'm all for experimentation. The age of little robot girls really is glorious.

The wasted parts do bug me. I was having a look and if I was able to order extra runners you could get extra complete figures for not much. As always, being gaijin is suffering.

I like what they did with the SOL pair though. Being able to combine the two is neat. It's pretty useful ending up with essentially an extra blank body too. Can't wait for Roadrunner and I still have my Cheeseburger to build.
>>
>>6436109
SOL having only one girl in full armor while the other one is running around unarmored in the middle of a battle is a noted weakness in-setting, actually.

I think we've seen the ninja and archer's combined form in grey prototype form a while back. Need to dig it up again. Or just wait for WF this sunday.

>I guess they decided was wasteful.
It was more of an experimentation then a change of decision like that. Don't think they EVER intended the line to be just like the first wave the whole way through, no it was only to test the waters.

Koto likes to release things very close together in pairs. The MSG line tends to be like this, there are exceptions but for the most part you see pairs. This combined with the fact it was a new line with no preexisting brands tied to them, means they did not want to risk all that money on 4 kits that only one or two of which sold decently.

Well, Hornet is mostly done. Or would be, except her wings are fucking hand grenades and I'll need to cement them together tomorrow, and touch up some of the paint. Some of the bits around her waist need cementing too.

I'm not sure why, but her manual recommended using gray pieces instead of orange ones in her orange hips/shoulders even though both colors are included. I'll have to get her orange shoulders apart later any fix it.

Typing it all out, I guess there's quite a bit left to do on her. Gotta do her gun and decals and stuff too.

I think the flesh runners had a matte finish or something out of the box, they're definitely not nearly as shiny as the rest of the plastic.

>>
>>6438801
You're seriously being too paranoid. Your fingers aren't going to put any noticeable amount of grease on the plastic unless you eat hot wings while you build your FAGs or some shit like that.

If you're that worried about it, go to Costco or Amazon and pick up a pack of disposable nitrile gloves. They're thirty bucks for a box of four hundred. You should always wear gloves when spraypainting, but if you're worried about it you can wear them while assembling as well.

You only need to be surgically clean with your kits if you're trying to do a full repaint, which I don't recommend even considering for your first time painting.
>>
>>6438579
Tell me about the meme plating.

How noticeable are nub marks? Does sanding ruin everything?
>>
I tried doing seam welding with extra thin cement for the first time on my Hornet.

My process was to put some along glue along the edge of one of the pieces, then put the pieces together nearly closing them enough to pass the brush through the gap, and then closing the pieces together and passing the brush a third time on top of the seam. I let it dry for at least 5 minutes, then I sand it down.

However, afterwards, I notice that a very thin seam line is still visible. In fact, I can feel it if I run my nail across. It's definitely an improvement over the seam line without the glue, but I was under the impression that the plastic would melt together and no seam line would be visible at all.

Did I have the wrong expectation or did I do it wrong?

how do you weld seams with paint?
>>
>>6438872

I bought some thin to try this. I'm almost done with my Hornet build and I was going to test it out on that cutie.

Sucks to hear it didn't work so well. I've always melted down runners and done it that way. Some plastics melt better than others though. The skin on the WISM pair went really well but the white plastic was a pain in the ass.

I was hoping the extra thin would make it easier.
>>
>>6438944
probably explains why I saw tamiya abs glue in the background of a picture someone showing their megami device
>>
>>6438872
A few things to keep in mind. Not all casts are 100% micrometer perfect meaning the edges of two pieces might not perfectly line up for welding initially. With extra thin cement, it's designed to be sucked into the seam via capillary action so you don't need to put glue in before putting the pieces together. Also after the glue is in, you have to squeeze the pieces together really, really strongly to make sure they're making contact properly. Extra thin glue is basically entirely solvent, it's not a gap filler.

My process goes like this generally:
>cut pieces off sprue
>remove nubs
>sand the edges where the nubs were
>assemble the pieces together
>(optional and rare for me) if there's something weird with the way the pieces fit together, take them apart again and sand the contacting faces to try to make the fit better
>sand the seam a bit to try make it as smooth and even as possible before cement
>run the brush of thin cement down the seam so the cement goes in (generally play the amount by ear so there's no pooling or anything on the surface)
>squeeze the fuck out of the pieces together as hard as possible for about 30 seconds
>leave for a while
>sand later (and sometimes more sanding than you think is needed)

It's more an art than a science and sometimes you might find that you're not able to get a perfect weld for a number of reasons, in which case my next step is to use Mr Dissolved Putty to fill any gaps.
>>
>>6438801
Yes, you should top coat on a mostly assembled figure. you break it down into it's major parts, basically limbs and what not get removed. You then spray it. It's preferred to try and use alligator clips at this stage tobe able to turn the parts about without direct contact.
>>
>>6438872
the couple times that happened to me recently I simply adding a very thin shaved strip of the right color sprue to the seam and cemented that down into the leftover gap.sanded it out perfectly afterwords.
>>

Speaking of this, has anyone tried snipping off the clear handles and drilling a hole for the grey handles to plug into?

Reviews of more stuff:

The Pico Neemo rabbit shirt is almost as cute as the hug me shirt, but unfortunately it doesn't fit well on Base. It's more of an issue with Baselard than the clothes, though. She just has too many bits jutting out to wear much over her basic body. To get the shirt on at all, I had to remove her arms and upper arm parts (the fin things), thread the arms through the sleeves from the front then re-attach the arms to the body without the fins. And after all that her chestpiece still got in the way. Additionally, you can't see it well in this picture (sorry, my battery-powered light was dying so I had to take this in a hurry) but Base is also wearing some smoke-colored glasses. They fit FAGs well enough, but there's no ear for the stems to sit on, so they don't stay in place without a hand to hold them. I'm trying to think of a solution to keep them in place without gluing them to the hair.

The Pico Neemo cheerleader outfit Materia has on is very nice, even if the velcro on the shirt doesn't quite close around her charging port. I almost wish I'd bought two of them. Unfortunately, the pompoms aren't as amazing and are quite difficult to get into her hands.

I bought a DIY 1/12 felt top hat kit, but as expected it turned out a bit small. On the girls it looks like one of those stupid mini top hat hair accessories. It fit's architect a little better, but his head isn't round so it doesn't quite stay there too well. He can pull off a decent "M'lady" though.
>>
>>6440668
Also, I swear as soon as I find time to do anything other than just dress and repose, I'll finish up the paint and panel lines on Gourai, Architect, and Styko so they can join the lineup.

New info will be available at Wonder Festival this weekend in Japan, like when to expect preorders at the usual sites (likely later this year).

Also, there's a teaser floating around about some phone game called アリス・ギア・アイギス that will tie into Megami Device, more info at Koto's booth this weekend. The characters aren't identical to the prototype kits but they're by the same artist and share some details.

Now that I got her, I can see why she never caught on.

That skirt is no fun to assemble, get on and getting it into the right position to look good is actual work. She's impressive and a joy to behold, but overall more like somebody's master- and reference piece than something that's actually meant to be playable.

I doubt that's happening any time soon, and even if it did I doubt it'd get the results you're hoping for. Shinkis are a popular model line, but FAG is a fucking pop culture phenomenon in Moonland.

>>6441879
You're right, I wasn't. Hell I wasn't even aware it was such an issue that it apparently requires mods to delete posts about it. I won't suggest it again since apparently it gets peoples' panties in a twist.

Time to paint.
>>
>>6441338
I would have thought Nipako would get a crossover first.
>>
>>6441910
Are FAGs already more popular than Shinkis were?

But yeah, Konami shinkis are over, one can only hope that someone either buys the MMS body license from them (not happening I guess) or makes a sturdier Machineca-like body with screws and can paint them in a factory instead of making a kit. Not going to happen anytime soon, I'm afraid...
>>
>>6441918
i guess it can't be helped. i didn't like the orange color anyways.
>>
>>6441928
>Are FAGs already more popular than Shinkis were?

Yes, there are many factors that helped them like having an anime rather early on in their toyline life , twitter's existance helps fans to keep up with with voice actresses (the girl that voiced Jinrai looks like is genuinely into plamo so that's a plus) , genre awareness thanks to busou shinki, etc. The only thing missing is a videogame.

>>6441928

>>
>>6441948
We're getting that Fumikane's mobage Alice Gear Aegis that immediately starts with a Megami Device collab, so I'm sure we'll get a FAG game eventually.
>>
>>6441964
I was quite fond of them. Shinkis did have a bit too many holes, but the screws made them feel sturdier and added to the robotic feeling. FAGs try to look more human rather than robotic, which is fine, too, but I miss that a bit.

Miss is probably a wrong word, though, as I do still have my shinks to marvel at.

>>6441956
That's probably just a release date for Arnval, which was accidentally leaked on Amazon. Maybe something about Strarf.
>>
>>6441977
>>6441964
I didn't mind them, but the main thing I loved about the line was how rugged it was and how effortlessly you could make them pose.
>>
>>6441977
yeah, I agree. if you used the really nice aftermarket screws, it really gave your shinkis a really nice feel
>>
>>6441988

>>6441987
Yeah, they really were sturdy as hell and nothing besides some occasional wobbly hand or armor bit ever fell off.

>>6441956
I hope so, I'm getting tired of seeing the unpainted Strarf and the Arnval prototypes without any substantial information other than Soon™.

I'd love to own, and be excited about the BS product line, but it is difficult to get into currently.
Meanwhile, you can get 2~4 Megami Device or FAG kits for the price of a second hand Shinki.

I imagine that will all turn around if Kotobukiya can get their necromancers off their asses and get the MMS4s off the ground.
In the mean time, think of it as Gourai and company keeping their chair warm for them until they come back.
