For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Alright, I need to do a bit of scratchbuilding for the first time, please teach me your secrets. Looking through the OP I see a useful article on Scalemodelguide.com using Milliput, but are there any other good resources out there for a first-timer? Is Milliput better than Green Stuff for adjusting some curves and making a few accents?
>>
>>6316756
I've been using Tamiya putty, but AFAIK it's mostly based around what you're using for raw materials what works best.
>>
>>6316773
By raw materials are you talking about what I'm using the putty on? I've got a red Baselard I intend to play with, gonna make her figure a bit more feminine and do something to replace the neck piece on the second body.
>>
>>6316847
Yeah, Tamiya or Milliput should be fine for that.
>>
>>6316848
You're using Tamiya basic or something else? Is the hour or so this stuff takes to set usually enough? I'm a bit worried about that, though it looks like Tamiya makes an epoxy that takes longer to set.
>>
>>6316877
You can get the UV stuff that reacts to light and goes a bit quicker. But yeah, I've used Tamiya basic white, I usually let it sit for a couple hours before working on it.

You actually purchased that overpriced shoebox? Really?
>>
>>6316956
My desk needs more clutter, I can afford it, and if I bundle the shipping that won't be so bad. So yes, I bought it. I didn't get anything else because of the manga or anime but I needed this.

>>
Okay, let's talk about maintaining details. I'm fairly new to this hobby, but I've noticed that people usually don't give two shits about maintaining details in the nubmark area. Take this bloke for example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-26LuFTEsE

0:45 and the results at 1:04. The guy basically hiroshimafies the part's angle and curvature. What good is making the nubmark invisible if you warp the part you're working on in the process? Do many people do that? Is it just my OCD kicking in?

>>
>>6317362
Most builders honestly don't realize that they're oversanding. It doesn't help that it doesn't really affect the final product all that much.
>>
>>6317270
i didn't see anything that said it was specifically a new OVA.

I'm guessing it just means they're going to keep the HGBF line alive with more Build Fighters-style kits
>>
>>6317415
New project announced with new kits coming that look based on S1 characters. Back at the end of Try they announced plans for two OVAs, one for BF and one for Try. We got the Try one last year. If this isn't the BF OVA I will be really surprised.
>>
Wowee the RG Build Strike sucks my gosh darn asshole :DDD
>>
>>6317362

If you have better nippers (Godhands or something) and you're better at a two-cut method you should never get to the horror movie point he's at. Based on the video it looks like he just cut it from the sprue with a single cut with really shitt nippers and then decided to give it a butcher job with the knife to "make it disappear"

My first kit I put together has a lot of nub marks like that because I didn't know any better. My newer kits still have nub marks but if you do a two-cut method with some shaving and sanding, you'll never get to that point.

It's kind of amazing how many youtubers who are in the hobby make shitty videos. I watched a few to try and get ready to learn how to airbrush, and this guy was just painting everything on the sprue and didn't even repaint the parts after he cut them off. It's mind boggling. Lazy execution, terrible product, I guess.
>>
>>6317362
I'm pretty aware of when I'm doing this and try to minimize it, but it can get tough on curved surfaces. At least it provides an incentive to seam weld pieces like that to erase that beveled look.

Besides starting the basic seam puttying process I've been working to close up a couple of gaps in his details by doing things like putting hydraulics (non-moving) behind the gap hole in his shins, little styrene tubes in his chest covers, and some bits here and there in blank and hollow patches on the lower legs.

Also bought a bark edged base that I'm going to put some snow and little pinetrees on top of for him to stand on.

This exists everywhere. Even in japan, just a LOT harder to find them because their culture hasn't allowed hugboxes to really flourish like in the west. Let's say, hypothetically, that I broke the tip off of the adapter for a Flying Base. If I were to cement it back on is there any chance of it ever holding a kit again or would I have to pin it if I want to bother saving it?

>>
>>6318114

If he's going to paint it he has even less of an excuse for unevenness. If I paint I don't give a shit about discolouration for obvious reasons, but I will still sand that shit until it's pristine.
>>
>>6319054
great to hear that. I always believe anyone in these kinds of hobbys have a lot to learn from each other. We all use different and unique techniques despite essentially all boiling down to the same thing, putting together and painting plastic models. We don't have quite the same understanding of handbrushing techniques as the mini wargamers, nor the scribbing techniques of the scale models, while on the other hand they don't know things like how flat coat can make unpainted plastic look painted or being able to use cement on runners to make a putty because they rarely if ever actually use colored models.
>>
>>6319234
seconding any insight on this. Personally I tried pinning but first time I ever pinned and it didn't work out so hot and hoping that is only because of the fact that underneath the peg for the Action Base I used it was largely hollow and those left the pin to wiggle freely.

Wiondering if I should just putty up the hollow spots and redrill.

But to the original poster, If I was having issues with a pin, sure it was not anchored well, then I don't think you will have ANY luck without any pin at all. If the flying base has solid pastic under the peg, I say go for it.

But again I am also looking for more insight on the situation so someone may disagree with me which is entirely possible considering i screwed up.

Whatever gundam you like the look of honestly. Fun varies from person to person. I fucking love the Tallgeese despite its limited elbows/knees. Your mileage may vary. The gundams from the wing line aren't half bad though. Heavyarms can actually lift his heavy arm. The IBO kits are pretty good as well for poseability.
>>
>>6319878

I'm still not sure if Frame Arms are supposed to be autonomous robots or piloted suits or what.

IMO Byakko looks more like an autonomous robot that might only be in the 10-12ft tall range that supports a squad of infantry or something.
>>
>>6320332
Of what's been announced that I immediately remember? GaoGaiGirl, Archer and Kunoichi. What I want them to announce right now, dammit? Stiletto onee-chan and a FAG of whatever Baselard's upgrade was called.
>>
>>6320344
it might sometimes depend on the FA in question, but I think in general they all are part of the same background story involving aliens and earth. Not nearly enough of the lore has been translated for us and the japanese fans don't seem to discuss it too much.
>>
>>6320344
They are piloted mecha. Frame arms has a very loose background story of moon invading people attacking Earth based people with both sides using the shared frame. Gourai was unusable garbage right out the door and only became usable through variants later, stylet worked correctly but got its shit pushed in by the mp moon mechs like kobold, and Hresvelalalalagrer raped everything until Earth developed the Baselard and kicked its ass, starting an escalation in development on both sides.

>>
>>6320371
Innocentia and materia are original designs for the frame arms girl line primarily released to give the line things like unarmored part options. There is no corresponding frame arms.

Jinrai is also not technically based on an official frame arms. It's based on a Gourai kit Fumikana customized years ago.

Cross posting from /m/:

Has anyone ever used krylon to paint their kit? I've got a bunch of matte krylon that I use for outdoor projects, and on a whim decided to try it on some spare parts I've had lying around. It seems to adhere to primer better than the Testor's I was using before.

I'm practicing on some old parts before I do my first real paint project, and wondered if there's anything wrong with using Krylon.

Is there a noticeable difference in the quality of these paints or their evenness of distribution? One of these is krylon, the other testors.

>>
>>6320908
well I've used krylon fusion for paiting model tanks before with no problems, so it should be fine
>>
>>6320920
Cool. I've tried out some different greens, tans, brown, and black with it now, and it seems to go on pretty even. The nozzle is pretty easy to control, all things considered. I do have a testors metallic black/graphite that I'm debating using, but it seem to run not matter what I do or how light I spray it

When painting a kit, do decals come before any topcoating?
>>
>>6321129
a gloss coat/clear coat goes on after the paint to both protect and seal the paint, as well as provide a smooth surface for decals to adhere to.

The final topcoat, like its name implies, goes on top of everything else once you're done. That final topcoat can be another gloss coat or a matte/flat coat.
>>
>>6321134
Thanks amigo. Where does weathering fall regarding coats? After the initial gloss/clear?

>>6320781
i keep saying this here, but never end up doing it. but i need to get around to checking out the bjd community, especially with how big a deal the mech girl model kits are becoming. from what very little i know they create the full face details on blank slates essentially. no decals.
>>
>>6320908
>>6320925
i also used krylon before, and while it works great it is also far easier then other primers to get too thick and obscure finer details. when i use it i like to use as thin layers as possible, spraying from a good distance. and i dont even wait till it is a full solid grey before letting it cure to paint on. havent run into any flaking problems so far with that method.

>>6321129
>>6321147
>>6321157
the general rule of thumb is that between phases of painting and detailing you should apply some kind of clear coat to protect the previous layers from you trying to fix any mistakes. when it comes to weathering wether you use dull or gloss depends on the type of weathering you want to do. hand painting chips might be a bit better with gloss since gloss is easier to clean mistakes on, but i don't recommend that without a bit of practice first anyway. dull like was said before, is needed for weathering powders to adhere better.

After the trainwreck that was Super Fumina, this looks...suspiciously non-shit. It's kinda cute even, and the proportions look alright. I am cautiously optimistic, will wait for OOB build photos before buying.

The only thing really bothering me is that weird V-divot sculpted into her neck. Why?
>>
>>6321981
happens when ur thin m8
>>
>>6321983
No, I know, and I know that it's likely mimicking the sternocleidomastoid muscles in the neck. What I don't know is why they chose to sculpt that in. The style of this sculpt is so simple to begin with, and most anime girls do not have this detail drawn in. Not to mention, it's so small and poorly done that it just looks bizarre.

Universal Unit Gundam Barbatos Lupus complete. I'm certainly not the best, or even that good, at handbrushing, but I think it looks pretty good when not inspected too well. I messed up early on by not realizing there's tons of flash and junk on the "pre-built" parts of the kit until it was late in the game. Definitely a better appreciation for people who work on tiny scales.

Last is also a comparison shot. I wish I could do something like this more since it's really cool to me to see a before and after next to each other, but fuck buying multiple kits just for that. It was just fortunate these came in a 10-pack box with an extra.
>>
>>6321998
>>6322004
Really cool shit, man. I really dig it. I also sort of like the weird squashy proportions of the UU figure, which are now fully visible in all their glory now that you're painted it up properly.
>>
>>6321997
Makes me think of the back details on Fumina (which you can't even see in a regular assembly), Bandai still doesn't know who to do girls it seems, they keep it simple but also throw in weird details that look out of place or too clear cut, probably out of a panel line and crevice quota they think they have to fill. They're using mecha sensibilities in making the human details and that makes some weird results

That said a spine line makes a bit more sense than the neck thing, which is specially confusing when the neck is a rod as supposed to tied to the chest/shoulders like irl, you'd hardly notice it on a shirt like that, let alone just a V above the neck line
>>
>>6322037
Thanks, dude. The proportions on these things are really nice, actually. I've built the GM Custom and Full Burnern that came with the box and they're both real good too. Just need to do the Wing Zero, the reason I got the box in the first place, to see if it transfers over to that design as well.

>>MP zaku II origin
WHAT
>>
>>6322626
see >>6322459

Or at least that's what the fisrt zaku II we see infiltrating side 7 looked like in the origin manga.
>>
>>6322625
Why can't the guy who does Build Fighters character designs draw attractive faces? Like I have to wait until doujins come out and then sift through the garbage to find someone who draws Rinko or Gyanko off model enough where it take away the shit faces.
>>
>>6322641
I think Gyanko's unique face is part of her appeal.
Unfortunately, it is really hard to translate to 3D since it isn't generic like Fumina's or Mirai's.
>>
>>6322645
Honestly Gyanko's face is what I like least about her. It has some sort of weird frog face effect going on whenever I see it.
>>
>>6322561
first print wave of any kit gets a card iirc.
>>
>>6322461
why would the enemy fighter of all fucking things have Mikumo all over it?

makes no sense
>>
>>6322483
looks like she has Downs
>>
>>6322680
And that she's depressed about it.
>>
>>6322437
What is this thing?
A new 144 GM?
>>
>>6322175
Oh, it's an Act 4. Thanks. I missed the torso clip before, I'm not a fan. Too bad.
>>
>>6322510
The statues of the original Build Fighter girls look great. It shouldn't be that hard to manage.
>>
Jim's Counterattack fuck yea
>>
>>6322733
>>
>>6322428
My goodness. Instant buy if just to see how fragile it is.

>>6322483
>That sculpt

Did bandai learn NOTHING from subpar fumina?
>>
>>6322733
>>6322739

>People think the GMs counterattack name is a joke.
>It turns out to be real.

Remember, it's officially YEAR OF THE GM.
>>
>>6322686
New build fighters OVA officially announced (Finally), fulfilling the promise Sunrise made back at the end of Try. The GMs are going to appear in it apparently.
>>
>>6322706
The statues aren't ~exactly~ made by Bandai, and definitely not by the gunpla department.
>>
>>6322439
>>6322431
>just finished the PG

welp
>>
>>6322770

the megasize can't even transform, the PG is still the best version as a model, but the mega size seems fun
>>
They're really pushing the Unicorn really hard lately, huh?
>>
>>6322779

yeah 2 kits holy shit slow down bandai
>>
>>6322783
Don't forget about the 1/1 scale.
>>
>>6322783
one of them is a revival for a dead line.

Also they are making a fucking statue of it
>>
>>6322786
>>6322787

not sure that's really "pushing" unicorn

it's probably just the least controversial long term choice because of how popular the ova was
>>
Oh God, I need that HRM Wing Zero, even if it's overly stylized. It even comes with its loadout from the Glory of Losers so it can probably transform too.
>>
>>6322439
The Megas as useless and I love it. Take my money.
>>
>RG and mega size Unicorn
The absolute fucking madmen, is there any size class the Unicorn hasn't been made in now? They've even got a 1/1 Unicorn going up in Tokyo this year.

Now we just need LEOS!!!
>>
>>6322461
>>6322462
Is the fighter a plamo kit or is it just advertising the stickers? I'm not familiar with model jets, but it seems like something I could get behind.
>>
>>6322847
It's the 1/72 Draken III from Macross Delta, it's a kit and it's just an extra release with the new decal sheet.
>>
>>6322645
I'm with you. I don't even watch BF but from what I've seen of Gyanko, I like her unconventional face shape.
>>
>>6322481
First on the left looks like some kind of aquatic suit. Third one keeps making me think Zeong with legs. I guess I'm probably way wrong though.

I've been waiting for this!
They really upgraded since last time.
>>
>>6321981
Don't worry, they just fucked up Gyanko. Her mecha musume kit's a bust, all that's salvagable is the ass and legs. Luckily the Vloker girls are apparently going to be in the same size range as Bandai's, so not all is lost.
>>
>>6322739
Wait what
will it really be about GMs
>>
>>6323033
it's called GM's Counterattack, what do you think.

Inb4 a mobile armor too big to fail that fails miserably and has to be bailed out by Murrica Gundam.

An enemy with a white Draken-III captures Mikumo for an evil plan, and both Windermereans and Elysion crew team up to stop him

You figured for a 10th anniversary of Gundam 00 we would get something nice for fucking once instead of all p bandai shit for the entire year.
>>
>>6322483
Jesus, what's with these face sculpts? Those Love Live busts came out perfectly fine, so it's not like Bandai can't into anime girls.

There should be a chart like the ones in the figma/Figuarts generals but only for every version of the Unicorn. It'd easily take up 50 spaces
