The TVC 3.75" Fans Choice poll is up:

http://www.starwars.com/news/vote-now-for-the-next-3-75-inch-star-wars-vintage-collection-figure

Ben Skywalker isn't included thank god.

Your options are:

-Doctor Aphra
-Yak Face
-Arc Trooper Fives
-Sim Aloo
-ROTJ Emperor
-Ahsoka Rebels

No idea who Aphra even is, from some nu Canon comic.
Ahsoka would likely get a figure anyway so I'm in no rush for her.

Sim Aloo is the best choice but Yak Face has at least some chance of winning.

Go Vote.
In Other news the 6" 40th Anniversary Wave 2 has been found in some stores in the US. This includes C3-PO, Tusken Raider, Jawa, Chewbacca, Stormtrooper and Death Star Commander.

Let's try and not argue about the movies this time.

Are all Star Wars fans really this "special snowflake" about their character choices? Just give me a fucking Boba Fett or some shit.
>>
>>6305731

You've got 30 to choose from, faggot.
>>
>>6305731
There's been hundreds of Boba Fett figures since the beginning for forever.

Obscure characters are a much better choice.
>>
>>6305731
Nigga, minor characters getting figures is a highlight of the franchise.

I have to say the hands options are hilarious. They're well made enough that it doesn't look like a bootleg but not that good that it looks imposing.

> Doctor Aphra at the top
I hope that doesn't turn out like the Jaina Solo/Starkiller thing where people changed their votes to Jaina because of sites reporting a massive shift in the polls so people mindlessly click the first choice they see, unknowingly changing their vote. I utterly hate everything I have read about her comic appearances so, no.

Sim Aloo seems to make sense though I feel like for a Vintage super articulated line they should first do Janus Greejatus and by extension maybe a repaint to make him Sate Pestage.

I hate the constant Cantina Alien / Jabbas Court faggotry but I can accept where those people come from.

Ahsoka is utterly wasted and will very likely get a figure regardless.

Fives like every TCW character that isn't Ahsoka has barely to no chance of getting a figure so I would rather vote for him.

And I doubt they would make a good Emperor now when they have fucked up like 3 Vintage/ultra articulated versions already so I would prefer waiting for them to make one on their own.

So the only eligible ones for me are Sim Aloo and Fives. I think I am going for Fives since I would prefer telling Hasbro to do multiarticulated TCW characters to a OT background guy.
>>
>>6305848
Include an Umbaran soldier figure and I'm in.
>>
>>6305731
They're trying to fill gaps in a full collection. Hasbro needs to focus on toys that sell consistently, so they rarely venture into those holes. They have bad memories of weird figures sitting on the shelves.

>>
>>6305931
The fans choice figure was actually introduced for filling gaps in collections. Not for bringing out yet another Vader/Luke.
>>
>>6305707
You can probably do that with the new Invincible Mario in McDonalds
>>
>>6305812
I think it looks pretty decent other than being thin. I'd rather pay the extra $5 for this than $40 for the new Hasbro version and the cardboard backdrop.
>>
>>6304389
>>6304397
Who else planning on putting new BS Speeder Rey robes on the Mafex?
>>
>>6305673
How is Palpatine winning against Fives. I mean, yeah at this point Fives has no chance of winning against Aphra or Tano, but I still find it kinda weird that he's behind Sheev.
>>
>>6306076
Because normies approach this poll as if it's a "Choose your favorite character" poll.
Literally zero thought goes into whether those figures are likely to get figures anyways
>>
How's Mafex Kylo
>>
>>6306102
Better than the Figuarts but his cloth robes are slightly too big and the wire in the hood has an annoying habit of poking through the fabric. Unmasked headsculpt is pretty meh but that's par for the course with Mafex human characters.
>>
>>6306102
I really like it because of the wired robe bottoms and the helmet sculpt. The hood looks kind of wonky unless you've got it pulled back and the unmasked head is a little small but it's not really noticeable. Overall, it's probably one of the best Mafex figures. Just be careful with the shoulder joints, one of mine was stuck and I needed a knife to separate the two pieces.
>>
>>6305931
If that were true, then why do we have millions of Jyns, Caasians, Finns, etc still clogging the shelves? They never really learned, just repeated the same mistake with bland main characters instead.
>>
>>6306102
He's perfect after giving him the black series robe.

People aren't buying them because they are shitty characters, (I honestly liked Finn and disliked TFA) it's because they are shitty figures. The Black series has terrible looking human figures.

That being said, is anyone going to make a Jyn Erso figure in an Imperial Grounds Crew disguise? I would kill for that.

This exactly, and I think it's a problem with paint, because the sculpts buried underneath would look pretty solid for the most part. I genuinely really like the Rogue One cast, and a lot of The Force Awakens cast, but with how sloppy the paint are on these figures, I'd never buy the Black Series Jyn, Cassian or Rey; they look like they're melting or something.

>>
>>6306272

Jyn and Cassian have been in every single rogue one wave, and took up half the pallet sent out to the stores for the last force friday. It's no surprise we're fucking inundated with characters people didn't really care about in the first place.
>>
>>6306535
That was to avoid the shitstorm that was Where's Rey? from last year.

People are STILL in denial about that.
You can still find the original TFA Force Friday figures at retail in the UK, dust and all and yet they still insist it was a problem.

I hate to sound like an SJW because I hate them as much as you do probably, but I guarantee if Ahsoka had a dick you would've just labeled her as "should get a fig regardless". but your inner /pol/tard or whatever buzzword you want to call yourself is putting a blinder on and making you assume her existence as a character is somehow pandering to the newer audience.

I'd say Rey is more of the current hype girl seeing as she's basically the current female Luke. Ahsoka is way more obscure in the mind of the general public.

I bet you have a carefully worded draft outlining why the Tonnika sisters should be made. Something about loopholes and likeness doesn't have to match 100%.
>>
>>6306857
She is without a doubt the worst nu canon character, and there are many. Star Wars outside the movies is just complete shit now. All the books and comics suck and are a huge step down in quality from the EU and Dark Horse's stuff and there are no games except mobile trash which doesn't even count.
>>
>>6306842
Wrong. If anything her hype is solely due to her gender. She's an average major character and thus a shoe-in for a figure release; she shouldn't be in the poll.
Polls should be for interesting "literal whos", instead it's characters who'll get releases eventually vs two who probably won't unless they win this. It's unfair.

i dont know why they dont rerelease all of the older figures. it just makes sense
You see people paying $40+ on ebay and other secondhand markets for the figures.
It doesnt occur to them "hey our toys are still popular and people are buying bootlegs. lets make some money off of our most popular figures. Lets send off an entire case of Storm Troopers or Boba Fetts"
Is Hasbro stupid? What would keep them from rereleasing them?
>>
>>6307905

>>
>>6307920
we would still buy them on amazon
>>

Not him, but if Ahsoka had a dick then I would just hate her even more because she'd be just as annoying, and boring to boot since male characters with her personality are so common.
>>
>>6307905
it's really up to who ever chooses the characters in each wave. Most figures never get a rerelease, and we barely got rereleases from TVC in BS. The emperor's royal guard being a prime example. Also aftermarket doesn't always reflect the market at the time of release.

The modern star wars cartoons aren't exactly high art. They're geared toward kids/tweens and thus not taken seriously.
SW was an adult filled (and fueled) fantasy for many years and it's being dumbed down for a younger audience. It makes it difficult, if not grueling to watch and keep up with current 'it' characters like the exciting and incomparable Dr. Aphra.

So, Rey arrived today.
I was worried that her face was going to be a horror show like previous Mafex human ventures, but it actually came out pretty alright. The weathering on her clothes and specially her desert mask is pretty damn good, as well as the odds and ends of her backpack. The helmet has a very nifty feature in that it splits in half so you can put it in her head, but that also means it can fit many other figures in the same scale and nogging size as Rey's. The lightsaber is alright, but the red buttons came out huge, somewhat over sized versus the Hasbro version. I cant compare it to the figuarts farmer Luke because I skipped that one. The gun is also nicely detailed and painted, and she comes with two gun hands and two lightsaber hands, but you gotta be careful with the trigger finger because that bastard sometimes doesn't want to go inside the gun and you may bend it. I think you can see that in a couple of the pics. The staff is great, and since the strap is some sort of faux leather, you can have her carry it over her chest which makes the whole desert scavenger look worth it for this figure.
Poseability is very good compared to the BS Rey, but I still would have liked to have the cloth around her be actual cloth like Kylo Ren had, because it limits any sitting poses unless you finagle her leg into the robe loop, but it still doesn't look that natural.
>>
>>6312983
Star Wars was never high art. At all. I don't see your point.

Star Wars was never 'adult filled' fantasy either. It's been riding nostalgia for the past 30 years. Please don't try to pretend Star Wars was somehow different before Disney and 'new fans' somehow ruined it.

It's still pretty much the same.

>>6312997
Alright, now for the bad. First one of her hands was severely tanned, almost like it looks to have come from a different figure altogether. Its like when they were shading that one they went hog wild with it, and it sucks because that's the right lightsaber holding hand so it can look a bit wonky; Also, the hands fly off once you start moving them around which means you gotta be careful with posing. Her feet have almost no bend up or down and the pivot is small to nonexistent, so for more extreme poses you're going to have to fight to ground her.
In the instructions it says that one of the straps in the backpack comes off and that's how you have her wear it, but for the life of me, I cant get the peg out. I noticed a wear in the plastic from it and I'm kind of scared to break it. I did find a better way to put it on, which brings me to my biggest gripe here.

I had avoided the Mafex QC luck so far, but it strikes here. Her left arm popped out at the bicep as soon as I took her out of the package. Since its made from a softer plastic, you can kinda wedge it back in but as soon as you start moving the figure around, it falls. Some of the poses for the pics here took longer than expected because every time I tried to set them up, I moved that arm and it popped back off. I'm going to try some pledge to see if that helps in keeping the arm in better but I don't think that will be a longtime solution. Also, the elbow joint in the right hand popped off at the connection once, but I moved it back in and pushed it back into place. These issues have to do with some of the gummier plastics used in some of the joints, which like I said before, can make it difficult for you to get a good pose for her.

TL,DR: I liked the figure, but she can be very frustrating. Maybe it was just mine, but she is going to take a lot of patience to handle. A lot. I dont know if its better to wait for her to be a little cheaper than to pay full price.

Even if it's the same, every story and character that kept SW alive through the years was brushed aside and replaced with Disney versions. Surely you can understand why fans are a little put off by this.
>>
>>6312983
I wouldn't say solely adult filled and fueled before Disney. Most casual star wars fans wouldn't know book and comic EU characters outside of say Mara Jade. However I know I and the vast majority of my friends did know who Darth revan was, and most of those of us who knew that, also knew Kyle katarn and dash. We grew up playing some pretty awesome games that so far I have yet to see anything equal to that come out since Disney.

You can care about some things and not others. The Vader comics were rather shit and not worth reading anyway.

There's plenty of merchandise surrounding the original three films alone. Enough for someone to peruse these threads, anyway.
>>
>>6313033
>Surely you can understand why fans are a little put off by this.
Given their mission statement with the new movies and a coherent, cohesive canon it was a necessary reset. The EU was never canon in the way the new stuff is, either.

My issue is that we just didn't need any of this shit. Less is usually more when it comes to storytelling. I rarely cared about the EU for the same reasons.
>>
>>6313157
I want to believe that this is meant to be ironic, but there really are people like this on this very board.

>>6313242
You are welcome to not care about things. I agree that the Vader comic is shit and I actually hate Dr. Aphra, but I know who she is and I'm not meming "literally who????" when she gets a figure.

>>

Fuck off with that.
>>
>>6313514
But it isn't wrong. The current canon is predicated on a much more concentrated effort at consistency and continuity. No more tiers, no more "that world is different from my world" as Lucas once said, and in theory no ambiguity. Everything is on the same level. This might unravel, and continuity errors are sure to pop up (they might have already), but there's a clear difference with how it's operating.
>>
>>6313532
>The current canon is predicated on a much more concentrated effort at consistency and continuity.

That's what Marvel and DC say every time the do a reboot. We'll see how long this lasts. I'm confident writers will be stepping on each other's toes before we know it.
>>
>>6313516
I'm completely fine with this. I actually prefer when my female figures are larger.
>>
>>6313558
Or be forced to avoid the movies and focus on stuff that can't reveal anything.

There is no Canon book/comic that is on a level with the films or the galaxy.
>>
So how much Star Wars stuff is Mafex planning to make? I'd like to see their take on Chewbacca.
>>
>>6313558
>>6313571
As I said, it could easily unravel. But canonicity isn't about practicality so much as presentation. Aside from how works reference each other "canon" is completely arbitrary. My point is just that there's an overt difference in the Story Group's mission statement and organization compared to how the EU worked with the films.
>>
>>6313516
I've always hated how tiny hasbro made their female figures, so I'm tentatively ok with this. I don't have him on hand atm but I wanna say BS finn was short in the first place?
>>
>>6313579
Personally, I never cared much about 'canon' in the first place.

I've got tons of Star Wars comics and novels and I never cared where they sat on the 'canon tier'. I just read good Star Wars shit.

This canon jargon is mostly a show for the uber nerds who live their lives for Star Wars and not for Star Wars.
>>
>>6313516
Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are both 5'7", so it's not too far off, especially considering they're from different companies.
At the very least, this is better than the Hot Toys comparison.

>>
>the doubles in the wave 2 of the 40th year anniversary is the jawa and fucking death squad commander

Why is Hasbro so fucking stupid? Why not double the stormtroopers(hasn't been released in awhile and army build) and sand people(gotta have two of those assholes at least). Hell, C3PO would be a better choice since he was exclusive before.
>>
>>6314426
STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>6314786
Both new.
Jawa will be army built.

Sand Person is in the next wave as well.
3pO wasn't a strong seller.
I agree about the Stormtrooper though.
>>
>>6314786
The Jawa especially feels like a figure that would've peg-warmed before- just because its like half the size and doesn't come with enough to balance that fact, yet still the same price as all the others.

The way these things have been flying off shelves though, I'm not sure any of them are going to pegwarm, even a 2 per case Jawa.
>>
Hasn't it been confirmed that ALL figures except Vader will get a regular package re-release? If we're talking about Stormtroopers specifically, I would like to think Hasbro would do a full case of these. They did it with the Scarif troopers after all, although those were exclusive to Walmart. Even now they're not that hard to find at retail.
>>
>>6315006
Only the new ones.
Tusken Raider, Jawa, Death Star Commander and Vader.

Solid cases of the 40th aren't happening anon.

>scariff troopers
They are to hard to find in the UK, because yet again exclusives don't arrive here.
>>
Dr. Aphra won? Well that's a waste of plastic.
>>
>>6315020
Well I'm not talking about the 40th packaging, I just mean full cases of the regularly boxed stormtroopers. Hasbro HAS to be smart enough to know people would buy full cases of them. I personally have 15 troopers I've bought one at a time. Maybe I just like them too much.
>>
>>6315027
>Dr. Aphra

>>
>>6315172

This is precisely who they wanted to win. Like you I, find it hard to believe that the only people with knowledge of this character, (comic book readers) had this much sway in the vote.

When you go down the Disney/Hasbro list: Female (girl power) check, Asian appearance (diversity win) check, A new character (story potential) check... It becomes pretty obvious they wanted another Ashoka style character they can build the popularity and brand for and merchandise the heck out of their new creation.

Comic fans know who she is and now collectors will too (expanded awareness) check.

Not being cynical or paranoid it just is what it is.
>>
>>6315183

Also doing some searching to learn about her, she apparently pals around with evil R2 and 3PO, which creates some easy repaint fodder.

There isn't a single release, they took it out themselves.
Did you know you weren't getting the stand?

>>6315912
I got the same one. Looked pretty clear to me that they were selling a version of Vader without the stand.

Did you pay normal retail for it?
>>

Oh they're clearly doing it themselves. You could also order the stand separately.

Personally I'm really happy with it. Vader was $35 USD instead of $40 for the whole thing.

But I live in Australia, so it was like $25 to ship the whole thing, compared to $9 to ship just Vader.

I haven't seen it available in any stores in Australia. It'll problably end up at these cunts for around $100 AUD eventually.

Well he sells them for $30 each when he just gets them so its not too bad I don't think.

Lando is okay, he is really stiff and his cape is thick rubber. So you can't do any real action poses with his cape on, but it is removable.

The Tusken Raider is legit. Very smooth joints and very articulated, the rifle and staff are great. The mask looks good and its fabric robe is awesome.

And Chewy is awesome, the only thing I don't like is his bow is affixed to one of the hands, you can see in the pic.

Hasbro confirmed as rigging the poll for diversity and the pretending like it was what fans wanted.

>The first figure in this line to be named was the result of a fan vote, and brings diversity to the line in many ways: Doctor Aphra, a character introduced in the new continuity of Marvel comics, is an Indiana Jones-like archaeologist, who also happens to be a woman of color suffering from mental illness.

>And instead of a room-filling TIE Fighter, 6-inch figures will get more managably-sized vehicles, like Luke's Landspeeder and Rey's Scavenger Speeder. Speaking of which, you can probably expect plenty of Rey from now on, including in a new line of dolls aimed at kids and collectors who prefer the kinds of toys more traditionally marketed to girls. And you can probably expect any toys based on Carrie Fisher's final appearance as General Leia to be popular, as fans mourn the passing of one of the franchise's major actresses.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/lukethompson/2017/05/04/star-wars-40th-anniversary-hasbro-collectors-may-the-4th-black-series-expanded-universe-doctor-aphra-marvel-vintage-collection/#4dc05def741a

>>
>>6316924

> Who happens to be

I am all for diversity, but the trend lately is to basically make it a defining trait and existing for the sake of diversity annoys me.

Also, you want to win back collectors? Maybe occasionally re-release figures, especially army builders. Release things earlier, and longer on your own damn store (HasbroToyShop) so when Wal-Mart is stocked with Finns by the dozen I can still get Churrit Imwe.

Basically, look at what the fuckhead middlemen scalper crowd is selling for $40, and release more of it at mass retail for $25.
