Definitely not keen on that Rodimus though.

The official thread is full of Takaracuck brand slaves and I wanted an unbiased answer. What are the chances of this thing being good? Trax, Laserwave, and Ironhide/ratchet were all mediocre to bad while Monkey and Inferno seemed to be really good.

Not bad for a $48 KO. They definitely have their problems, but they're the same problems the original ones had. At the discounted price they feel more worthwhile for sure.
>>
>>6174008
It's not out yet so how would we know? If you like your MP figures to be cartoon accurate then you probably won't find one better than the Takara version. Just wait for reviews, the more expensive MPs never sell out instantly.

>The official thread is full of Takaracuck brand slaves and I wanted an unbiased answer.
I find this funny, third party general is probably just as biased just in the other direction. There are quite a few posters in these threads who will trash Takara and scream third party companies can do no wrong.

Honestly, the TR stuff has been great sans the slipshod QC. And it's not even something you can blame on price, because I've bought 3P stuff with QC issues out the ass despite it costing literally 10x the amount of a Deluxe figure.

>There are quite a few posters in these threads who will trash Takara and scream third party companies can do no wrong.

There are literally zero. You will get bitched out if you early adopt ANY fucking combiner here.

The majority opinion in the official thread is not if you should suck Takara's magical holy cock but merely how. People have genuinely proposed that unofficial products are inferior solely because they are unofficial. Don't even get me started on the Hasbro vs Takara shitposting.

The official thread is hot fucking garbage populated entirely by tribal children too poor to afford nice things. They bitch about anything that might cost more than 40 USD.
>>
>>6174583
>They bitch about anything that might cost more than 40 USD.

Well, for me the value of a 3P figure is if it can provide something HasTak cannot. For the years I had her, I never regretted buying and owning the best Arcee of her times, Delicate Warrior. That's why I never bothered to own the Takara Arcee, but the Hasbro was perfect because she's her own character. Already having the "true G1" and all.

Would I buy Delicate Warrior today? Oh hell no. But it's still a 120$ purchase that I'll never regret because I had a perfect Arcee YEARS in advance.

What about toys NO ONE has?

I've been thinking about this warbotron computron lately, cause it seems like no one has it or has any real opinions about it. People get heated about Quantron, but this thing seems to have gone completely under the radar. JinBao's Bruticus KO has me thinking about this company; not in love with their aesthetics but I might just spring for a huge KO just to have a hueg combiner for cheap. Even the original can be found for as cheap as $250. Still kinda prefer Quantron aesthetically, though.
>>
>>6174764
As I recall he's floppy as fuck and falls apart really easily if you shake him a bit.
>>
>>6174747

Checked. But Roller being a red herring would have been a great twist if Tarn had subtly used Glitch's extremely strong powerset and Glitch had shown some of Tarn's tendencies like transforming a lot in various panels.

>>6174756
Expensive, Extremely pretty sculpt, lots of paint, fragile, terrible tolerances, hodgepodge Q/C. Shitty alt modes and partsforming usually accompanies them. Possibly the only decent thing under them were the scouting force, combiner Wars addons and Warden. Gorira might be their attempt to make amends as it is the first big figure they've made in a long time and the design is big and chunky.
>>
>>6174756
Geenrally high quality but prone to notable QC issues and fragiity. They make high quality stuff but push the boundary of how fragile a toy can be, so they're more like display pieces than full-blown toys. That said, Optimal Optimus has a lot more bulk and chunk to him that their more delicate past designs suffered from.

>>
>>6174781
Only really an issue if you're a photographer and actually take pics of your figures if you ask me. I never display anything with their backs showing.
>>
>>6174605
Sometimes its less a matter of "best" and more of a series of lateral qualities. And how much money you feel is worth it.

This is truly the only time it's mattered.
>>
Browsing this thread and suddenly I have a shopping cart with IF Blitzwing, Drift, Sixshot, and that Hulkie KO for 160 or so, should I pull the trigger?
>>
>>6174839
In all honesty the modern IDW comics have a very iconic coloring style thats helped define the look for a lot of these character's current designs. Digital coloring was a major influence to the shift in Transformers art we saw in the 2000's(everyone had their mind blown by Pat Lee's TF art early on, even if its bad in hindsight, because before that we'd almost never seen Transformers look that detailed in a still image). Now IDW has done a major shift using softer pastel coloring thats shifted a lot of the aesthetic.
>>
>>6174855
Do it do it do it. They're all great. Hulkie isn't as great as some equivalent Devy from IF would be but for the ko price he's a good time.
>>
>>6174795

Some of us don't display our figures and then leave them be so having half the figure look unfinished is kind of a big deal.
>>
>>6174811

Have you never seen the actual character before and you like the look of it at first glance? If so he's a simple but very pleasing looking figure especially when next to official stuff. It's not as accurate to the design as it should be which is why people are so hung up on him. Otherwise he's solid as a rock bar the guns getting caught in the shoulder assembly because they couldn't space them accurately like in the fucking comic. No little wheels in vehicle mode so he doesn't roll like a normal toy.
>>
>>6174741

I wouldn't consider anyone dropping like $500-600 on one thing to be "small time".

Small time would be like, owning 1 $40 or less figure.
>>
>>6174894

Laserwave really isn't durable man. He's nothing but super thin panels for legs, and has that ass gape in gun mode. Quakeblast and Quakewave were both miles ahead of Laserwave. Inferno was "good" other than the complete lack of a rotating fire ladder which in all honesty killed the figure entirely for me.

Sadly we are at the point where third party MPs are a better deal than official ones with how expensive Takara's are to import nowadays.
>>
>>6175209
The washed out has so many shades and o much more depth. He also has these interesting texture patterns he adds that just did wonders. The new colors truly look like uninspired photoshop art.
>>
>>6175397
Another thing I miss besides the colouring is the fact that when Milne drew them they had imperfections to their finishes, dings, dents, scratches, places where you can tell their paint was maybe touched up but it was rough, etc. The new art everyone's clean and perfect as if they never so much as go outside.

The soul left the comic and now there's no one to keep JRO's shitty ideas in check.
It's upsetting but you can tell there was a drop in quality the instant Milne wasn't a full time regular artist and his story input was taken more into consideration since that technically started off as his book too.

I'm really only just getting into things, but I only go with guys I really like. Megatron's my favorite, I'm just waiting to see how Takara's Masterpiece turns out and I might go for a 3P one if I'm not happy with it.

>>6174770
I agree. While re-reading some issues I noticed there were very small, like really insignificant hints (in The Permanent Revolution Tarn says his "talk to death" feature wasn't always like that and took development) but that wasn't nearly enough for it to be a satisfying twist that "Okay, I can accept that we suspected him to be Roller but he's actually Glitch."

>>6174914
I think I was also almost more offended that he revealed Roller wasn't Tarn, before revealing who he was. Like just before Tarn is unmasked, it's interrupted with a panel of Roller elsewhere, just to show "Well it ain't him!"

I have a hard time choosing my favorite 3p I've purchased. At the moent I'd call it a four way tie between Gravity Builder, Commotus, Carnifex and Kultur.

The worst of the bunch is definitely KFC Simba. He's okay as a stand alone figure but suffers from a lot of little design flaws like how his arm panels that hide the spots his hands fold into have no way to tab shut and are on loose hinges, how everything is way too tight out of the box or how the chrome scratches .

Setting aside nitpicks about him as a stand alone figure, of which I have plenty more, he integrates with Star saber poorly overall. portion tat hooks on to the back is far too heavy, requiring new ratchets for the knees if you want him to be able to stand up straight without rotating his thighs sideways. Even then the weight can cause the entire backpack assembly on Star Saber to swing down since the latch that would keep it up doesn't even fit into the gap it was intended for.

The shoe bits are okay but whenever I snap the toe caps on or off I get worried about potentially causing stress marks.

The closest you're going to get is Himed and he's really not that great on his own thanks to some of the choices Maketoys made. Partcularly the awkward knees, small feet, mix of paint and translucent on the windows, and the entire wonky ass shoulder assembly.

GT's apparently going for a Defensor next and their latest kick is that they are now trying to be comic accurate. You might see something that better resembles the IDW design soon.

He lacks shoulder articulation, I would start with something else. Their Magnus options are both solid if you're looking for an Autobot leader
>>
>>6177847

When I say lacks, I mean it's limited. His shoulders do move, but I find his range of motion lacking.
>>
>>6177852
I disagree, he gets a like 70 degrees out or so.
>>
>>6177929

Sure, if you unclip his arms from his torso. I'm just not a fan of that.
>>
>>6178210
I think my estimate of 70 was incorrect, but you shouldn't have to do that. The shoulder pads are a bit stiff, but you can move the arms outwards more than you might think.

>>6177464
He's great but in full armor mode this is as far as his arms go up, and forget about raising them sideways because the shoulder pads obstruct any movement.
>>
>>6177165
I just got mine from them last week, plug was definitely in tight but easy to remove once I got a knife in the gap between the two pieces, no glue or anything.
>>
>>6174008
As a poseable figure I think he'll be perfectly fine. They've showed off damn near everything in preview pictures and everything looks alright, except for his legs which seem MP Shockwave-tier. The only thing left to worry about is if he has some horrible engineering or breakage issue, which we won't know before we start seeing some hands-on reviews.

However his transformation is pretty horrible (being complex doesn't make it impressive) and pretty much every angle except his front looks terrible. Even his sides get pretty messy. They seemed to have went out of their way to over-complicate what has always been a surprisingly simple transformation for no real reason at the expensive of aesthetics.

And I get what they were going for appearance-wise, they wanted him to look just like he did on the show and they more or less accomplished that (especially in terms of his proportions, they absolutely nailed them), but I'd rather not get "I get what they were going for" figures from Takara, the official MP line should really be the definitive version of a character. MP36 is probably gonna be good but it isn't the perfect Megatron.

Also he's too damn expensive holy fucking shit. I want one but I'm not even batting an eye until I see a sale.
>>
>>6174008

The backs not really a concern. It still isn't terribly junky since it conforms nicely to the silhouette and you won't be staring at it all the time. It's the top of the torso surrounding the neck area that's a problem. It's so broken up compared to the chest and other front facing areas of his body. You'll be looking at it most of the time when glancing at the figure.

Also that price is a load of shit.
>>
>>6178810
I'm seriously crossing my fingers that a good KO of Megatron happens.

I can buy the fucking MMC Carnifex for about that price and get almost twice the plastic. And that's a third party figure!
>>
>>6178756
rreason MP megatron 2.0 is gappy back there is that unlike every other megatron, he was made to have the same part location as the G1 Toy, so it is a masterpiece remake of the G1 toy, NOT, as the third party options have done, a Cartoon Megatron that becomes a gun.

So, I picked up a G1 Sideswipe a week ago at a vintage shop and fell in love.

What is a good line to collect for?

What's this "Titans Return" line I'm seeing? Is that a good one?

I have a weird OCD when it comes to toys and figures. I have a very hard time "mixing" different toy lines, especially if both lines have a version of the same character/

I'm eyeing the hell out of that Fortress Maximus
>>
>>6179858
A lot of people are liking Titans Return because it's basically a G1 nostalgia line--some of the figures even pretty much transform the exact same way as their G1 counterparts. Titans Return is a great way to jump in right now and find stuff at retail.

If you're looking back to the past, some of my favorite lines were Animated, ROTF/Hunt for the Decepticons, and of course, CHUGURTS. Look into them all before you start I guess, especially if you don't like mixing lines.
>>
>>6179862

I'm looking at this set list. I'm going to end up wanting to get every single one if I start down this road, not counting con exclusives and variants.

This is the turd party thread of expensive not official toys that Hasbro and Takara aren't making. Aesthetics are all over the place between different companies and lines. Try the official thread for better advice on Titans Return. Some of it is a lot of fun but its also a few steps back from the good stuff we had a few years ago.
>>
>>6179904
>Try the official thread for better advice on Titans Return.

Shit, I clicked on the first thread I saw in the catalog. My bad
>>
>>6179858
U think you'd be better served in the Official Transformers Thread >>6179639 if you want to maintain line aesthetics. This thread is for people who are in way too deep and are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for foot tall versions of Repugnus or Strika. You'll want to make absolutely certain Hasbro isn't going to make what you want before looking here.

As for your question, You may want to stick to the Generations line. Titans Returns is a subsection of it, and the line itself is a continuation of the Classics line from 2006. They're essentially modern interpretations of old characters, but since this has been going on for over ten years and through new design teams and budget constraints, the aesthetics can be pretty jarring despite being made less than a year apart.

I'd recommend Generations Springer and Sandstorm as an example of the line's highest point. Thrilling 30 in general has a lot of hits. Also be aware that Titans returns makes everyone a Headmaster, even if they never were before.
>>

Is Susanoo out? How is he?
>>
>>6179915
Not til April. It'll be DNA's first full figure, but so far it looks promising from the video. I just wish I could find out where the Diecast is on him. Their Devastator Kit was really high quality, so I hope they know better than put metal on plastic. Hope it's just for the swords.
>>
>>6179905

It happens, no problem man.
>>
>>6179926
It's for sure in the feet but I don't know where else. The feet are pretty obvious though because of the way the paint looks on them. It has that really tick look to it that's usually a dead givaway. If they keep it to shit like that, it should be fine. Metal feet generally are pretty nice just because they help the figure balance better but only if there isn't a bunch of metal in the upper body to cancel weight out. Hopefully they don't go too crazy.

He's stil got the dinky guns and smaller features compared to later iterations of the design and the vehicle mode is not very cohesive or impressive, but damn does he capture a lot of the art and sleekness.

MMC really dropped the ball when they could have had a home run.
>>
Man, I bought the 3 MMC DJD guys and they just arrived the morning.

Opened then when I got home from work tonight and not only did Cynicus (Vos) have a broken crotch plate loose in the box with a snapped screw (a weird one with an unthreaded pin end so I can't easily replace it), but Anarchus (Kaon) was missing his hand held gun that was supposed to be in the baggy with the spiderbot thing.

Never had any problems like this with MMC toys before.

Anyone got any experience with MMC support? Will they normally look after you? Or am I better off going back to the retailer (chimungmung) and seeing what they can do for me?

Is customs still a problem for this? My Despotron came through from Hong Kong to Perth just fine - he's packaged in robot mode, has the little orange cap slid into the barrel and nowhere on the packaging is he shown in gun mode.

For a big official release I can see customs possibly being given something to look out for like they were with reissue G1 Megs, but I don't see them knowing to look for a pretty obscure collector's figure from a manufacturer nobody outside the fan community has even heard of.

Don't worry, it's an action master.
You simply buy NotHotRod and car as a double pack
JK
>>

Honestly? I almost wouldn't be opposed. As long as it had like super amazing articulation and super comic accurate as a trade off for the transformation.
>>
>>6182141
Not the anon you were replying too but same. I think MMC's Tarn would have looked alot better especially as just a well articulated action master; and its not like his altmode was anything to be impressed with anyway since it didn't even roll.

Do we know how big he is? MMC is about Voyager/masterpiece autobot car size right? I think I remember someone saying SXS was going to be smaller but I could be pulling that out my ass
>>

MMC stuff varies a bit in height depending on figure, but they're generally around Voyager sized.

>thanks to MMC grossly underestimating how popular the Decepticon Gestapo was.
They didnt grossly underestimate anything. The demand simply out weighed MMC's ability produce. Its not like they only made 5000 when they could have made 10k or something. The factory they use can only make but so many at one time and if they had sourced another factory, they might have run into QC issues.

I must say that in person the dead black eye holes are a real disappointment. If any character should have had the gaping eye sockets it should have been Kaon.
Really hoping they do a better mask where you can actually see the eyes.

The sword is solidly built and translucent. Max holds it very well with no drooping. It's all plastic so it's light and won't stress the joints. I don't know how perfect effect's is, but with diecast, I'm sure it's much fiddlier piece.

The gun is a pretty good match for his blue. It looks like a pistol in his hand, not quite as big as Metroplex's, but well detailed, light, and high quality. No problems holding it in either hand.

Sadly, the gun was made just for Max. It has no pegs besides one on a slider for vehicle mode. No recreating IDW scenes with this.

Got Shadow Tengu in the mail today and I have to say this is the first IF figure I've had actual QC issues with. The neck piece between his wolf head and torso is flipped meaning the wolf head can't lay flat on his back and the waist forward/back slide simply doesn't move. I've got his waist apart now and am going to try to sand it down until it works.

If you aren't afraid to modify your pricy add-ons, you could just shave the nubs off. The sword fragments hold together without the nubs and have other points to prevent spinning. I'll be shaving them down soon enough because a sword like this needs to be shared around.

Be aware that the sword has no storage anywhere on anyone. No other sword had any either, but still.

I've been pretty hard on this set, but that's only because it does what's needed and little else. Even with the expectation of higher 3p costs, it still feels like I got shorted.

Still, if you nabbed a Fort Max for real cheap, hate diecast like I do, and want both iconic weapons in one box, then you can't go wrong with this. I'm satisfied since I just wanted a plastic sword that wasn't half the price of the figure. You get two weapons that are solidly made and hold up well. Just a shame that the engineering didn't add anything extra functionaity to either piece.
>>
>>6185568
Sadly Quality Control is one of the biggest downsides with IF. I have a misfired pin in the knee of my not dead-lock and two right heel spurs on my not swoop. Try contacting your store to see if they can facilitate a replacement.

I got a new leg for my not-swoop but that took months.
>>
>>6185578
Eh, I fixed the waist slide already and for now I can live with the neck issue. It just means the wolf head lays flat over the area where his bot head goes instead. This weekend I might punch the pins and fix it myself.

Bot mode looks great though. :/
