Despite taking pride in his ability to transport things, Astrotrain finds it difficult to continue his line of work at Decepticon Tera-Kura Co. now that he's a tiny Headmaster and can barely carry a couple of energon cubes. He demands a transtector, but Megatron explains that with Tarantulas and Devil Z out of the picture, the company can no longer build them. Astrotrain argues how important his function is to the Decepticons, only for Ultra Magnus to offer to transport cargo in his car carrier mode instead, effectively replacing poor Astrotrain. While drowning his sorrows, he runs into Tarantulas, who's escaped prison and is on the run, and agrees to hide him from the law... in exchange for a transtector.

Tarantulas finishes the new body, and is shocked when Astrotrain next orders him to mass-produce it. His plan is to form an Astro Corps by creating his own company and attracting other bodiless Headmasters from both sides by offering them free transtectors. With his new troops, he will then crush both Tera-Kura and Autobot Axalon and build his Astrotrain Empire!
>>
>>6163540
The idea of Solus Prime being in the films as a major, non-human character does appeal to me quite a bit. It would be a nice way to integrate other parts of the franchise into the films and possibly bring Solus into the public eye and opening the door for a toy of her.

______

Grimlock's tunneling as a means of moving around unnoticed makes Galvatron's survival rather miraculous. I'm just imagining Galvatron booking it for the ship Optimus and the Autobots crashed, running through the woods like some sort of slasher victim. :lol It explains his name change, too...

*Galvatron shows up at the ship and grabs the nearest sword, transforming into his Knight form*

*Dinobots show up*

Grimlock: "You Galvatron?"

Galvatron: "No, I'm... Megatron."

Grimlock: "Er, okay. You know where he went?"

Galvatron: "To your mother's house."

"ME GRIMLOCK DESTROY!"

*Dinobots leave*

Galvatron: "... That was close."

Using his new body, he drops fliers all over the city, attracting the attention of Shūta Gō and Bullhorn, the last Headmaster Juniors who haven't found employment. They show up at the company alongside many others and, despite finding their new boss demanding absolute loyalty and threatening anyone who opposes him with death, accepts the job for the sake of the transtectors. The employees begin transporting cargo far and wide thanks to their shuttle modes allowing them to bypass traffic jams.
However, Shūta and the rest soon find themselves overworked, with Astrotrain refusing to let them rest, eat or go home. He reveals that they're not his employees but his slaves, and activates restraint devices that locks the Headmasters to their bodies. He then turns on Tarantulas and blasts him before sending his slaves to attack the Autobots as the first step towards his conquest of the Legends Universe and creation of his empire. Unfortunately, his plan backfires when the exhausted, starving Headmasters prove unfit for combat and begin collapsing—in fact, their bodies are so low on energy that the restraint devices deactivate! The Headmasters run off, leaving their transtectors crashing into Astrotrain and burying him. With his ambition in ruins, Astrotrain ends up using the last remaining transtector to run a commuting service instead.

Save for that last bit, that guess work I put up was pretty close.

Last few weeks were interesting for Transformers: The Last Knight. Thanks to our wonderful members, we’ve received multiple catalogs and toy info. And now it’s time to share some info from Portugal where the initial line up of TLK figures were officially announced today. We are giving a shout out to our fellow staff member fallen_revenge for translating the info for us.

Most of the stuff you’ve heard before but the news here is Armor Up Changers. The new line is a rename of 3-Step Changers. The “gimmick” for this year is Battle Masks. Sadly, we do not know how the gimmick works as we do not have any images of the line. But, if you stick with TFW2005 in the coming weeks, we’ll treat you to our coverage of New York Toy Fair 2017 where the line will be revealed to the press for the first time (it’s supposedly there at the Nuremberg Toy Fair since yesterday, but we will not see it yet).

The lineup for the country is as follows:

Turbo Changers will have 7 figures.
Armor Up Changers will have 5 figures
Legion Class will have 9 figures
Deluxe Class will have 6 figures
Voyager Class will have 4 figures
Optimus Prime Voice Changer Helmet
Turbo Changers are basically renamed One-Step Changers.

Armor Up Changers are renamed Three-Step Changers. The gimmick this time is Battle Masks.

Legion Class: Each figure is 9.5cm tall in robot mode.

Deluxe Class: Each figure is 12.5cm tall. Convert from Vehicle to Robot and back in 10 Steps.

Voyager Class: Convert from Vehicle to Robot and back in 18 Steps.
Also, those are only for Portugal, there are more listings to come!

Picked up T30 Windblade.
Can agree that the color is grossly inaccurate but it's not too bad in general as a color scheme.
Really nice design visually aside from the thigh armor getting in the way of the thigh swivel.
Joints were not the best out of the box, tightened them up and it works really nice and holds together in vtol mode..
Did not fill the void but is a decent sealent until i do.

But TF designs were originally very streamlined. Only Bayformers was a mess of random shit glued together and called a robot, which is probably the most unrealistic thing. If we ever made truly functional robots, they'd need casings to protect their innards from dirt/water/etc. Shit like Bayformers would never work because they're just flopping bits everywhere.

That's because they're aliens. They have different organic structures compared to man-made robots. Some of them even have healing metal.

But in what Anon was saying, the CG effects lost their luster when in the original trilogy, the bots' kibble was shinier and thus looking realistic. In AoE, Crosshairs seemed a bit jelly because of how organic he looked and that Lockdown barely looked like he transforms into anything. It had even worse reception than what the old Bayformers designs had, which was why they decided to revert Bee into his old tried and trusted design. It was also why they made Hot Rod look like shit as well.

Aesthetically, Drift is probably the closest to the older designs, as well as actually being a homage to his original character themes.

Vortex: Arm mode has a flamethrower, plus slice shield. Leg mode has a flame kick.
Brawl: Extremely heavy punch or kick.
Blast Off: Extreme accuracy in arm mode, leg mode allows Bruticus to maintain his footing no matter what.
Swindle: Arm mode the surplus weapons from the components coordinates their usage for precision attack. Leg mode disables transformation cogs with a pulse in a 100 meter radius.

Computron:
-Lightspeed: Arm mode gives mild gravitational control, but it drains Computron. Leg mode allows him to localize that control to the legs, increasing the combiners speed drastically.
-Afterburner: Arm mode creates tornadoes from the protruding wheel, leg mode allows that wheel to act like a buzz saw.
-Strafe: While his weapons work in both modes, but sadly has no special feature, he hates combining so much he's offline every time he's a limb.
-Nosecone: In arm mode, the reinforced drill can replace the hand, with devastating results. Leg mode allows him to fire the drill like a missile, but it has to be reattached after.

Menasor:

-Dragstrip: Arm mode allows him to super charge melee weapons, increasing their cutting power and setting them on fire. Leg mode allows him to deploy his wheels like mines, but screws him over if they have to decombine and he has to retreat in vehicle mode.
-Wildrider: Eliminates pain receptors on his limb, which can be helpful or detrimental depending on the fight.
-Dead End: Arm mode can create blinding flares. Leg mode can create earthquakes.
-Breakdown: Arm mode allows him to increase Menasors rage. Leg mode allows him to calm the combiner to deliver more precise attacks.

Vortex: Shield as arm, buzzsaw kick as a leg

Brawl: Impact Stake/Impact Knuckle via firing his cannon to turbo boost his fist forward as an arm for MAXIMUM DAMAGE. Leg mode, gives dash via shooting the cannon at the ground.

Blast Off: BURNING FINGAAA punch via superheating his fist with the jet rockets. Gives a double jump or a short controlled floating hoverjump as a leg via firing all thrusts.

Swindle: Rips off enemy armor to later sell for extra money/use for upgrades as an arm. Leg mode, he uses dirty fighting techniques to kick his enemies right in the ball bearings and stun them.

Actually my supplier explained it to me that Chinese still held a lot of the molds or stuff used to make the toys, so when they were making MP01 and MP10, they decided that if they wanted to make money with great toys while making good use of not being subject to infringement laws, they'd do what Hasbro failed in the AoE line, which is to maximize and realize its (the figures) potential. With Evasion, they fixed his back in both robot and truck mode, fixed the wheels for screen accuracy, added a shitton of weapons and an extra face all the while putting some diecast on some parts and rubber tires. For Masterpiece Prime, theyfixed some issues of the original figure making him a big hit on the KO market.

I still see them being sold well in our local toy conventions while I chuckle at the first masterpiece Megatron getting cobwebs and box damage on some of the stalls.

>Also most of the voice acting was awful to mediocre

I have to agree.

as someone who loves voice acting, it was disappointing.

they cast too many inexperienced novices and it showed.

The only VA's who were veterans were Rodimus and Devastator's. They were the better voices.

Megatron's voice legitimately was my favourite in this series, he basically does a Corey Burton impression and it just works.

Starscream's voice was done by an actual fan, his Freeza esque take is okay, but makes me rather have Chris Ayres instead.

Windblade's voice is decent but her characterization sucks.

Jon Bailey's Optimus is great for parody but to take it seriously....hahahaha no.

and Dashie as Menasor, fuck whoever thought that'd work. Maybe as Jazz or The Battlechargers but that is so not Menasor.

Overall Freddery's parody is way better.

The swap limbs thing, yes, but not powers. The weird thing about Transformers compared to other import vs domestic lines is that generally the basic molds are the same, its the paint that is different. think of it how Power rangers used to be up until the last decade.

>Are there any universally hated transformers?

Figurewise? Its hard to truly all it universal, but there's a lot of figures that are mostly ignored by collectors or outdated. The simpler/kiddie lines, for example, are mostly despised for being irrelevant.

>Are any of the comics decent?

This is a can of worms, but generally the modern IDW stuff is decent.

You're better off to just stop caring about precise scale right now. As for Hasbro/Takara, are you talking about lines they do OTHER than Transformers? Because aside from retooling, the molds they both use are the same.
>Are there any universally hated transformers?
Prime deluxe class Airachnid is terrible. You know you're doing something wrong when the smaller, cheaper legends class version of a character outclasses its larger version in every way.

Tons of them, but there's always low points in any comic*. Any particular type of story are you looking for, or do you want to go whole hog on a series?

Squeezeplay, Fangry, and Terri-Bull are blank slates IDW-wise and they could have just imported their Masterforce personalities (Squeezeplay is a young 'Con martial artist, Horri-Bull is a thug's thug, Fangry is a conniving gang banger) and they could have brought Darkwind and Dreadwing into the fold via having the three go killing Black Shadow/hassling the Scavengers as part of a plot to bring Wind and Wing back to live.

Furthermore, make them less edgelord murders and more internal affairs type who spy on other 'Cons and leave the killing to Megatron. And they could play up the hero/father figure worship for Squeezeplay in terms of recasting Cancer's paternal relationship with MF Overlord to Megatron.
>>
>>6165767
It's more on the volume 2 and above hyping the DJD, more than Tarn at least. They're just shown to have some form of potential and spent more than 20 issues giving the DJD some depth in characterization, and it's all lost and squandered in the finale. Sure his death seemed pottery and fitting but with how MTMTE was shaped up to be the LL and the DJD's run, the latter half proved to be underwhelming.

As a concept the DJD was fine though. A group Decepticons who's sole purpose is to hunt down and murderize traitors in the most cruel ways imaginable. It helps that most of the members turned into all manners of torture contraptions. It sort of makes sense in universe that Megs would have come up with boogiemen meant to keep the 'cons in line. The original intent was that they they weren't invincible and regularly replaced members who would pick up the call signs.

Of course that got thrown out the window when their feats involved killing serious heavy hitters with impossible odds and that was explained away by drug abuse. Plus Tarn's 'identity' could have been alluded to in such a clever and subtle way with his addiction and his real powerset and they never touched on it, ever. Going out like bitches would have worked better if it was properly built up.

Also they looked cool and I'm glad they're getting turd party toys.

Fucking Airachnid. What a fuckup.
The designers told me at Botcon what went wrong with that figure. Basically she had the same fate as Universe tank Galvatron. She was originally a voyager triple-changed that could do the third 1/2 robot 1/2 spider mode seen in the show and she looked a lot closer to the show model. Fuckin Hasblow bean counters and marketing tell designers to shrink it down because cost-cutting/girl toys don't sell well enough. Arguing ensues internally. Higher ups say fuck you do what bean counters want or you're all fired. Cost cutting toys become norm. Shit gets smaller, more hollow, less paint. Gimmicks diminish. Simpler transformations. Soon after most of the designers either leave the company or move to different toy lines within company.

If Airachnid had been a triple-changing voyager, I would have bought her on the spot. Hasbro meddling hurt that toy bad. My Five Below stores were filled with her deluxe figure for years. Ironically, they also got in her legends class figure and those all sold immediately.
>>

Do the big arms integrate into the vehicle at all? Or is his alt mode just "oven tank with arms?"
>>
>>6165861
>Soon after most of the designers either leave the company or move to different toy lines within company.

I really want the finer details of just what it was that made Aaron Archer leave that certain people alluded to, but this seems to be about it. Now, I wonder if any Hasbro designers jumped ship to any 3rd party TF companies proper(not Play with this too, but actual full blown 3Ps). Or even other local companies. I suspect Playmate's Voltron was handled by some former hasbro employee.

What's so tremendously sad to me is that designing Transforming toys is such a low-demand job that s lot of the people behind some of the most brilliant toys probably aren't making anymore transforming figures anymore. Its sad to think of these guys working on other franchises or companies and wasting their skills making some bland action figures. I bet somebody from the "golden era" of TFs is now doing some 5 PoA star wars figures, because thats how company bureaucracy works.

>Alright so I'm new to transformers and I have a few questions.

Welcome aboard, man.

>What hasbro lines scale with the Takara lines?

There are two ways that they do scale, currently. The Masterpiece (MP) line has it's own scale. The current measuring stick for the MP line is MP-10, aka Optimus Prime. Everything in the MP line from MP-10 onward, is sized based on their size compared to MP-10. So everything is all sorts of sizes, because it's all based on how big/small everyone else is supposed to be, compared to Optimus. Optimus IIRC is around 9 or 10 inches tall, I forget his exact height. MP's before MP-10 generally do not follow this size. The oldest MP's were much bigger, for example.

The second way they do sizes is divided into size classes: Legends (around 3.5-4 inches), Deluxe (around 5-6 inches), Voyager (around 6-7 inches), and Leader (around 8-9 inches). Heights vary a bit based on the individual.

Both Hasbro and Takara follow these two size guides, and indeed, they use the same figures most of the time, though Takara frequently remolds some parts or has different paint schemes for their releases.

>Are there any universally hated transformers?

Character-wise, a lot of people dislike Hotrod for getting Optimus killed, and Wheelie for being a little shit. Prowl in the IDW comics is a real asshole. And most everyone hates the human characters in everything, because they tend to be annoying and get in the way of everything.

>Are any of the comics decent?

The IDW comics are pretty damn good, though of course, quality can vary depending on issue, much like most comics. The current "everyone hates this" issues were the season finale of MTMTE, which ended with the dramatic equivilent of shitting your pants.

>When is Cheetor coming out, that bitch is holding up my January order?

LG Ginrai is freaking stunning with the vibrant plasic colors, and Takara's remolding from the Hasbro version makes it even more faithful to the original Powermaster Prime/Ginrai toy we all know and love.

Even if you already own the original tooling of the mold, Ultra Magnus, 99% of the parts on Ginrai are brand new. The two basically just share similar engineering and even then, their transformations are somewhat different because of their trailers being different.

He also has a headmaster gimmick, with a fully painted bot that resembles his original powermaster partner, hi-q. But if the gimmick triggers you, you can transform the figure without taking the headmaster off I think. (I don't try that much, I like the gimmick)

He's expensive as fuck compared to the Titans Return Powermaster Prime, but the colors are way better, not to mention he'll be able to combine with Takara's upcoming Godbomber.

Leader Class Black Shadow is probably the most perfect toy in its size class.
The color scheme is good, the transformation is simple but amusing.
It has ankle rockers so despite the lack of a waist joint, it poses good.

And you can forget that it's a headmaster if the gimmick irks you.

Tank and jet mode are cool. The base mode is also not that bad.

Sure it's an Overlord pretool but as a Leader Class, this guy would look badass standing among Sixshot and Overlord.

>Something to do with the compositing or the lighting?
It's the 3D. You composite things differently for 3D. In 2D you use many layers of subtle shading to make the CG elements fit into the scene and look real. In 3d you (usually) use fewer because the sense of 'real' comes from the left-right views matching... which becomes less effective the more layers of shading and whatnot applied.

The bluray is showing one half of an image which is meant to draw its realism from seeing both views together.
