I am going to do it. I only need the Joker from the balloon set and nothing else, although the Batman figure is nice.
The nearby Wal-Mart has a dead toy section that seldom restocks, and they've put used/returned boxes back on the shelves on clearance. Any danger in returning the set without the minifigs? I pocketed loose pieces from opened CMF bags - a victimless action, giving these abandoned pieces to a good home - but I am going to step up my game so I may live a quiet life.

anyone ever go through a 2nd dark age? i think im losing the urge to buy and build lego. curious how other people dealt with this. did you keep your collections or sell off stuff? did you ever come back to lego again and, if so, was it faster than the previous time?
my first dark age lasted like 10-15 years so im concerned this 2nd dark age could be similar.
>>6138056
You sure you got over the dark age? It could be that this time buying Legos was just nostalgia.

I can see that being a technic fan is suffering if you dont have a good job.
1) everything is super expensive
2) to experiment and build stuff you have to buy few sets and this is WAY more expensive than being a regular lego fan who can buy 2-3 city sets for detals.
3) if you are piss pour you will be buying shitty chink bricks and feeling miserable
Lego System Master Race
>>6138056
its usually inevitable due to an expanding market and just human nature
part of any hobby appeal is the "newness" and that slowly declines as your hobby becomes a habit and new products aren't unique enough to really distinguish themselves from the previous versions. I find that happens with anything really...toys, entertainment genres, etc
my feeling is if you don't get wrapped up in it too much, its easier to come and go, only when something really catches your interest and not just because its your habit or "you have to". I find the pressure of continuing to do something when you've lost some interest is really what causes a psychological revolt and you dislike it even more
>>6138153
Make the lower legs thicker and see about adding some more details to those feet. Other than that though, looks good.
On a related note, I fucking love how everyone seems to be making great mechs using the new Nexo battle suit cock-pits. I might have to get one myself, just to make my own and hop on the bandwagon.

You might as well just take the box to some remote corner, rip it open and steal the contents. At least that way when they find the empty box they can count it out of their inventory and no kid goes home with a Joker-less box.
>>6137681
>>6138737
I remember buying this once on a discount. The box was ripped open, but I checked inside, and so did the clerk. He even checked the manual on how many bags there should be, and we both gave it an okay.
Then I got home and realized that one bag was ripped ever so slightly open, and the yellow ninja was missing her headwrap and torso.
Didn't really care. It was the last one on the store so I couldn't get it replaced, and old enough that Lego didn't have spares. Got some neat parts, and oddly enough, second sticker sheet.
I found Siege of doom in stock, and hide one of them in the store. Will the price drop more in a few weeks? I have fry's as a back up.

Some are, but the late 90s and very early 2000s were kind of a dark age for lego design, a lot of weird specialised pieces and bizarre themes (like galidor) popped up around then.
I suppose I'm just grateful that we've moved past that, and overall the designs are pretty solid at the moment. I hope it doesn't take a nosedive.

I also bought a trio of custom henchmens for the Penguin because HE too, want the kryptonite.

BUT WHY SETTLE FOR JUST....UGHHHHH, WHEELS? LIFE ON THE (((GROUND)))?
COME ON DOWN TO SLICK SLEAZELTONS USED HOVER CAR EMPORIUM, WE HAVE ALL THE CLASSICS, UPGRADED!
Both Econo and Elite models available!
What determines which sets will get outrageously expensive when they're discontinued? Looking up the Funhouse Escape, I paid $40 when it was out, and it's like $90 now. The Town Hall modular, which I unfortunately missed when it was out, is like $600.
But I was able to buy the LOTR Attack on Weathertop like two months ago at retail price, and I have a few sets new in boxes that I'd gotten as door prizes at conventions several years ago that are worth less now than original retail price.

MHGen has a somewhat more active online scene, but it starts out super slow and only goes up to High Rank. If you want to buy it, now's the time to do so since it's being rereleased with G-Rank (i.e. Hard Mode) in Japan in March, which means it may appear in the West in the Fall.
MH4U is fun and is the 3DS title I spent the most time on, but some of the maps are wonky because of ledges and shit. You might struggle without a second stick to control the camera but there are workarounds. Online isn't as active anymore
MH3U has no online unless you connect to the Pii U version, and it has swimming, through which you can hunt aquatic monsters. it's a love it or hate it kind of thing but it has its own appeal

That's not even the tip of the iceberg for crappy themes. Knight's Kingdom, Galidor, Jack Stone. It was a bleak period, and I'm kind of glad I was going through my dark ages and didn't have to deal with that.
Also, I could have sworn Ben 10 was during that era, but that theme was apparently 2010.

>>6139583

>>6139583
You can't order minifig parts from their website like you can with any other part, but if you contact them, they'll send a replacement. At least in the experience I had. I had an Iron Man fig with a cracked torso.
They didn't ask for any proof of ownership or anything, but I've heard stories here in /LegoGen/ about LEGO asking for a picture of the instruction book or the receipt. I guess they have to deal with scammers trying to get free minifig parts.

imo, I'd say that's not a big loss. I tend to not use stickers on many of my sets recently. I store the sticker sheets to save them for later

I have no idea what to do now without this series.
Mixels were giving me..how to say "Skeleton" of what i usually build.
Tons of connectors/joints/other very tiny but useful details.
Those "Steampunk Mixels" were the most useful. I bought 6 of them and used all of the details.
Now im out of useful part and there are no mixels.
Im literally going back to what i was before - a person with childhish builds because to build something "complicated" you always need those tiny useful details and cool joints.
And dont start with "Bricklink". When you randomly building stuff you dont go to Bricklink and wait for shipping because you having an inspiration right NOW and need details NOW.
And you dont know yet what exactly you need.
All kinds of mixels lying around in your "random details" box were so fucking helpful

Random story about replacement parts:
I bought the Grand Emporium when it was still in production, and one of the detail pieces at the top of the building is a large flower with a rod/bar-sized hole in it that fits into a tap for decoration. In my set, though, the part I got was a different, older mold, where the flower is the same, but it didn't have a hole in it, so it couldn't attach to the tap, and so couldn't be attached to the set.
I emailed LEGO customer support and explained the problem, and they sent me a replacement. A few days later, I get the replacement, and find out it's the exact same piece that still doesn't have a hole in it. So I emailed them again, and explained the issue, and even provided the reference part numbers for both, and offered to send back the two I already had so they wouldn't think I was scamming them. They sent me a third flower a few days later, and it was, again, the exact same one without a hole in it. So after that I gave up.
I couldn't find the right piece on BL from stores that were A) in the same country as me, or B) had other stuff in their inventory that I would want to buy, so my Grand Emporium seems doomed to forever be missing that piece.

I mean, basically all shapes and sizes of the Creator 3 in 1 sets of offer just as much (if not more) piece variety. The only real benefits Mixels had going for them was the abundance of towball joints and a pair of googly eyes in each set.
Seriously, just go to bricklink, buy 25 of each type of towball joint and you'll never need another mixel again (which is useful seeing as how they're discontinued, lol.

Having random mixels buys was so helpful because they had
1) joints
2) unique details (Claws and Pipes like from Steampunk Mixels) that you dont see in one set that often

I don't know if it's just because I grew up with it and loved it, but the original concept behind Bionicle always just seemed to make sense to me, especially in hindsight. Robots on a typical island in a tribal society collecting magic masks... Yup, that checks out.
I think the originality of it made it really stand out, and yet, seem natural all at once.
But it very well just be because the Toa Mata were released when I was a young and impressionable child.
>>6139914
I thought about that, but I think it would be too similar to Pebblez. He is inspired by the stone statues of the old islanders sets (pic related), which are already based on moais
